Hey ladies! Today I did my own mini twists on my kinky-curly natural hair in under an hour! I'm so happy with the results and so far I've had them in for over a week with no immediate plans to take them down. This is a great protective style especially for the Spring and Summer months! Also, I included a quick length check update to show my growth progress since trimming my hair in June of last year. I feel like my hair is now LONGER than it was before I trimmed. Really been loving my hair these days.

Hey guys it's Vaughn and I'm back with another protective style. I wanted to share with you guys how I achieved these mini twists. So today was wash day right. So I took down my pops mole, tribal braids and I went ahead and washed conditioned my hair and I wanted to do a hairstyle that I could still maintain the protective style of it all. But I did not want to commit to the time investment of braids. This time you guys - and I also didn't - want a style that I would have to really focus on parts and things, because that's what takes the most time. So I landed on mini twists and I got exactly what I was looking for in these. I did not have to take a whole lot of time. It only took me 1 hour from start to finish and I did not have to focus on my parts at all. So I pretty much just parted using my fingers and you guys will see a little bit later in the video. How I did that. I really love the movement and versatility I get with these twists and I actually love the shrinkage. It looks really really healthy and springy and in fact, my twist actually just look like healthy curls. They don't even look like twists, so I really love that about this style. It also helps me kind of sample the lock life, so I'm kind of feeling that so I highly recommend mini twists for your spring and summer styles, if you guys want something low-maintenance, but also something that is easy to install. So I would love to show you guys how I was able to achieve this hairstyle and all the products that I use and everything so definitely keep on, watching. Welcome to my bathroom everyone we're gon na go ahead and start working on this hair girl. I just want you to know what shampoo I used to wash my hair and I'm going to be using this royal oils, moisture renewal, conditioner just to go ahead and condition. So that's kind of this step that we're starting with here, and I just want to kind of show you guys what that looks like, because I've already applied the conditioner to my hair and I'm kind of just letting it sit for a bit. And then I'm going to start my detangling process, but I did quite a bit of finger combing first, because I just took down my braids and there is a lot of shed hair and I don't want to just go right in detangling, because that's how you get A lot of breakage, because that shed hair kind of becomes an obstacle of sorts for your detangling tool, which means that, as the detangling tool brush comb, whatever is trying to get through the hair. It'S gon na get caught on those shed hairs and caused lots and lots of breakage. So I'm just kind of eliminating that part in getting that out of the way first and the detangling process was pretty easy. So I'm just putting my hair into these jumbo twists, because that's gon na make it a lot easier when I'm rinsing the conditioner out in the shower and y'all. This is not an act in any way. I legit get extremely excited when it comes to cleansing. My hair, it's just something about clean hair but anywho. I just want to show you guys a comparison from when I first big trimmed 11 months ago. My hair has grown so much so much healthier, I'm just so in love and for those of you who may be a little bit new rinsing. My hair, with twists in it's kind of a throwback method of mine, really just helps to keep my hair from getting back tangled while I rinse the conditioner out, because otherwise I would have to detangle it again after I'm done all right now. Let'S quickly talk products, I'm going to be using my male voice, rising avocado, hair milk to moisturize my Cantu, moisture retention, styling gel for hold and my miele rosemary, mint, scalp and hair strengthening oil for protection. This is, without a doubt, a protective style. So I definitely want to go into it with lots of moisture, and I want to be able to seal in that moisture and basically maintain it over a period of time. You guys saw me using my rat tail comb and my favorite handheld mirror to go ahead and part the back of my hair, I'm just straightening it up here, but this is the only time you're gon na see me using the rat tail comb. I'M going to part my individual twists using my fingers. I'Ve gone ahead and motorized over also for each individual braid, I'm going to just apply some of that moisture retention gel to it and then start twisting one thing that I would do differently for the next time. I try this style is. I would apply an edge tamer to the root of my hair. I would kind of just handle this just like I would do the box braids. I honestly feel like that would help a lot with neatness and kind of like making sure that it has a really polished kind of finish, but other than that you know. I was really just focusing on moisture with ease, and I could tell my hair was extremely moisturized just by how quickly each braid shrunk, as you guys can see here. That'S one of the indicators for me at least because I have high porosity hair that when it shrinks really quickly it's a lot of moisture so for some neatness I am using my rat tail comb to part the sections, but for each individual twist, I'm just separating The sections with my finger - listen. This is for my girls, who learn better with close-ups honey. So I'm showing you guys how I tackle some of the breeze closer to the front. So I am starting off like a plat braid and then, when I get down a little bit more, I'm going to separate that third strand into two and create a two strand twist, the rest of the way down. Of course, this is an old trick and it's easy to do, but it makes a huge difference on the finish, because it helps the roots stay a little bit more taut, even when the rest of the twists kind of wants to unravel a little bit after about 40 minutes, I'm majority done with these twists, I'm just really working on the crown, which sometimes takes a little bit longer, but I'm just tackling it in the same way as everything else applying my gel to the hair, because I've already applied the moisturizer detangling a bit Where needed and just going ahead and twisting the twisting process is actually pretty quick. I sped up these clips here for you guys so that it moves along, but in real life it actually moves pretty fast. I like using twists as a method of protective styling. My hair, because, first of all, it's so easy to do like I can move so quickly. I don't have to double check in the mirror and make sure that it's all, even or any of that twists are just super simple, but it forces the hair to kind of wound around itself, which creates a moisturizing environment, because the hair is no longer loose. It'S kind of like you know it's bound together, so it's going to hold in some moisture, so it makes it easy to maintain a healthy state of my hair. I always tell people when they ask me like what is the best protective style for them to do. I always tell them that it's more of an ideology right versus an actual look a style. So so, when you think about what you're trying to do with protective styling right, you're trying to protect moisturized hair from losing moisture. When you think about that, and you think about someone who might have a set of braids but the braids are extremely dry, there's no plan to remoisturize those braids, there's really no product in the hair to keep the hair moisturize to maintain a certain level of moisture. Then, how can that be a protective style? Protective styling is more about low manipulate, moisturized hair. They can maintain moisture over a period of time now that I'm done with all the braids I'm going to go ahead and apply my oil, I'm gon na really focus this oil on the ends of my hair, but I'm obviously going to apply it all over. I didn't want to apply it one by one because it would have taken forever, so I'm gon na take my time and apply several rounds of this oil and now that we're done I'm gon na show you guys my finished look, make sure you stay tuned until The end, so you can see how I maintain these twists every morning to make them look good, so keep on watching almost forgot to show you guys a little bit more about my look, so I want to share this lipstick that I'm wearing today is by minty Cosmetics, it's called Foxy Brown, one of my favorites, and I want to show you all the finished look of these twists kind of close-up. Now, I'm not super crazy about the look of having them be down. I love having them be kind of half-up half-down and I've tried a couple different styles with these, like the two ponytails in the front, and I can even fit all of these twists into one ponytail. So it's a lot of different styling options, but I decided to go ahead and do half-up half-down. So all I'm doing you guys is just collecting the braids in a way that I feel would look nice once they all kind of fall and I'm just using an ouch list. Hair tie to secure the hair at the top, and I'm just going to tuck in some of those loose ends just to make sure that nothing is sticking up and, of course, I'm going to address my edges like I say you guys next time I do these. I definitely want to use edge product on the roots of all of the twists, just to really make for a nice finish, but just for today, I'm going to apply a little bit of that edge product just to my edges, just to smooth them down and make Them look nice and manicured and groomed, and then I'm gon na do a little bit of baby hair styling just a little bit. You know I don't do a whole lot and then I'm going to apply a scarf just to set everything and lay it all down and then we're pretty much done so. My final thoughts lots of shrinkage, but in a good way right, because my hair really has a nice shine to it. Nice and bouncy. Soft, really shiny lots of movement definitely meets all the requirements of a healthy, protective style plus is really cute with lots of versatility. So that's going to help me keep it this way for a while, as promised I wanted to share with you guys a little bit about maintenance right. So every night I wear my little turban on my head just to kind of keep down frizz a little bit. This is my hair. A couple of days later just wanted to show y'all how i refresh it in the morning right because sometimes with twists, they can get flattened, they can get misshapen. They can change direction on you because they're so small and soft. So I found that getting them back juicy is the key, so I'll go ahead and spritz some water right on top. If I get in the shower and my hair gets a little bit wet, that's fine, because that works too. I try not to get my twists too soaked. I just want to get them nice and damp so once they are, they are a lot more pliable and I can actually go in and kind of correct, some of the ones that have started to unravel a little bit or maybe we got a little frizz ease On a couple of the ends, I can just go in and twirl my finger around it and pretty much restore the ends back to what they looked like when I first did them, and also, I think, at this point is a good time to apply any product That you might need - maybe it's a moisturizer, maybe it's a leave-in conditioner. Maybe it's an oil. Now is the time to do it while the hair is damp and these twists have been working out great. So as always, thank you guys so much for watching, and I will talk to you in my next one. Bye,

n: t AA n - y uh: Your hair is really flourishing since the cut. The twists are just lovely, hon! Definitely one of the fav go to styles for the summer.

Being Me: Hey Vaughn. I’m taking down my old mini twists today. The were in for 2 1/2 weeks. I was dreading having to redo them. Your video just gave me it inspiration to continue my process.

Simone Lindsay: Those twist looks so juicy. This might just be my next

Shantel: I’ve been wearing mini twist on and off for the past 3 years such a cute look that keeps hair healthy

dvinenubian1: Currently growing my hair back from a tapered cut and can’t wait to go back to natural hairstyles. Love your hair.

D S: I loved this video! I picked up the products and did everything you said step by step. I'm SO happy with how they came out. I'm growing out a taper cut so I've been trying to find a good way to wear my hair in a protective style that allows it to grow, still look cute and cover the awkward parts of my taper. This does it ALL! And the products helped with my typically oily air that's become really dry. My hair is so soft and manageable and JUICY now. Thank you for sharing an easy and realistic method and style!

Miriam Michelle: Love your twists!! This is my go to for my ten year old daughters hair :) Its such a great protective style that last for 10+ days! haha

Marcie L: Your curl pattern is beautiful!! Love it!! I’m going to try these on my hair!

Everyday Deanda: Your hair looks sooooo healthy! Having my twists spring back like that is my hair goals but in the meantime between time...I’ll keep my flexi rods handy.

Monifa 360: Such juicy twists!! I always braid the roots because my hair will sometimes unravel. I always free hand part the back but I definitely spend extra time parting the front just because I like different options for parting my hair. I live protective styling just because I am a lazy natural

Kwamesha: Mini twists have been my go to during these times! Super cute!

Istillhavejoy: Your hair looks exactly like mine. I have only ever twisted my hair because as you said, it's easy and it keeps the look neat and low maintenance. I've been doing twist and mini twists for like....19 years lol I should branch out but its so easy and my hair has grown A LOT. The braiding at the root was too much for me but I had success using the retwist method used for loc retwisting to keep the roots neat after I've had them in a few days. It works great. Try it if you want, it might work well for you. Great video and your hair is gorgeous!

Angela Scott: I am so enjoying these hair videos. I have been a subbie for a long time. I love everything you do here on this channel, but I must admit these hair videos have been given me life during this time.

LittleMiss Curls82: I love love love the hair sis! It has grown and looks very healthy! I love a good twist style definitely low maintenance, simple and cute! I always enjoy watching new videos from you!

sdholt4: Your hair has really come back to life since your haircut! Curls poppin!

Mz. Purple74: Hunty chile.......yes!!!! I work for the school District so I'm off during the summer. Treating this quarantine as an extended summer so I've been doing my twisting routine since March. I wear mine for a week or so, wash deep condition and retwist. I wear flat twist along the crown/front. #twistarethebusiness

Malaz: The shrinkage with this style is so beautiful because your hair looks full & I love how you put half up in a bun, I’m gonna try it like that next! When I tried twisting my hair for the first time I did it with a DIY flax seed gel & it really elongated my hair so it wasn’t really cute unless I let it dry & took the twist out to achieve a fuller look.

steph sampy: I never really thought of doing my own hair in this style. I thought I would have to add hair. You're awesome! Thank you! I'm definitely subscribing!

BlackHipsterGirl: One thing about doing twists with your own hair (no braiding hair) is that it's A LOT FASTER than wrestling with braiding hair for me personally.

L Tarleton: Currently wearing twist as a protective style and I definitely needed the maintenance tips. Going to use them to refresh my hair today. Yours came out great! As always, thanx for sharing!

Black Girl Lavish: I been wanting to try this for the longest. I washed my hair today and decided I’m going to do it today.

Anita Anderson: I’m definitely gonna make this my next style. I love it

Vilelai: I love mini twists!! They look so pretty on you.

Kimmie R: Beautiful! You have motivated me to re-twist mine and put some lipstick on ❤

Unknown2Yoo: How did this only take an HOUR?? I've done twists before three times now and it always takes me over two! My hair isn't much longer than yours.

C Reaux: Gul! Your hair is sooooo cute! Loved this tutorial. I am gonna try this! Thanks for sharing!

Nikki Pooh: I am definitely going to try this. The front of my hair is so fine though. I had spring twists, but you are right its very hard to moisturize your hair under twists.

SheRaw: Nice twist very healthy. My hair grows really fast with them and I end up taking them down because it get frizzy from growth even though I tie them down every night. I may do them again though. Like you said the versatility is great!

Shaletha Marshall: Very beautiful hair. Love it!

My Style My Home: Your hair looks so nice and moisturized. Nice growth as well

Janera Rose: Very pretty and youthful style! I have mini twists in right now and I still watched your video. LOL My curls are looser toward the front as well and I've tried all of the things like Olaplex, Aphogee, clay masks, trims and cuts...literally, alllll of the things. It's just genetics and I'm ok with that. ❤️

Asadie Walters: The health the length looking good Vaughn! Got me wanting to throw some twists back in my head.

Adria Chante': These twists remind me of when you used to wear mini twists and do vids showing how you styled them...back when you had the room w the brick wall/wallpaper & that cute funky intro! Your hair looks so good and healthy! #OGVaughnlova

Hibiscus Tea: Beautiful! Your hair looks great!

SimplifyingWithEbony: This is the best tutorial I have found!!! Thank you Vaughn!!!!

Thefunalongtheway: Came for the hair, and got the bonus HD flawless makeup

Vonnechi K: Wowww this is my hair extra texture im so glad i found her and i just did a chop of my heat damage again soooo happy new subscriber !!!

Shortcake39553: Your twists are so healthy and full. More so than I've seen them since you and M. did hair videos And I know your hair is fine. I congratulate you! I hope your hair isn't like mine. We have the exact same texture and density. My heritage is Louisiana (Indian/French) and African American on one side and Indian/ caucasian(not sure what origin) on the other. But as I've gotten older, my strands are more sparse and my scalp is more visible. I've tried to make my scalp look less visible but as I get closer to 50 ( 1 year from now) it's harder to hide.

Valencia Harding: Your hair ALWAYS looks so moisturized

Emmss: Very pretty, such healthy hair!

Jenn W: Thanks for this. Your twist are so beautiful. I have major shrinkage yet I feel like my hair is not as moisturized as it should be.
