When it comes to taking care of natural afro hair, you will hear every stylist and every so-called hair expert say leave me alone. Please leave me alone. This idea of leave your hair alone, so it can grow dates back as far as 2007, but the problem with this ideology is that people take it too literal here's what ends up happening when you leave your hair alone, you end up neglecting it. This causes the water to evaporate out of your hair. That now causes dehydration when your hair is left dehydrated for long periods of time. Your strands become fragile. If your hair is now Fragile, the slightest bit of tension from combing will cause the Strand to split strand. Splits can occur anywhere along the length combining fragile strands strand, splits and combing will lead to breakage. Once you see your hair is breaking. You might think that you're doing too much to your hair, which will then cause you to leave your hair alone and the cycle starts again. Your hair is going to grow as long as you don't have a medical condition that prevents hair growth. It is your job to prevent strand, dehydration and breakage. These are the killers of length retention, but vital steps for Effective, afro, hair care. Maintaining strand hydration requires you to monitor how your hair feels, day by day at the slightest sign that your hair Feels Like Straw, you're edging towards dehydration. You have to train your hair to hold in moisture. This will take time once you've mastered moisture retention, then focus on strength to combat any potential breakage from weak spot in the hair.

Cactus Flower: For everyone who fell victim to leaving it alone meaning neglect while in a protective style, I’ll share with you what I do—-I leave my hair in a protective style for 30 days, but while I’m doing that, I’m co washing, I’m spritzing leave in conditioner everyday on my hair and I grease my scalp while in the protective style 3 times a week. I have low porosity and high density hair strands which means spraying leave in conditioner on my hair every day is the only way my hair can retain moisture, once I feel my hair has enough conditioner for the week—-that’s when I’ll start spraying with distilled water to reactive the product that’s already left in my hair. I hope this helps you all. Also my hair is mid back length. The key is to re-moisturize your hair before it becomes dry while it’s in the protective style.

Mia P.: Giiiiiiiiirrrrrl you are dropping these nuggets!! I am learning so much! I feel the love you have for your sisters out here!!! Keep it coming sis! I pray God restores your strength for all the pouring out of yourself you are doing!! ❤❤❤ we can not repay you for your gifts and knowledge you are sharing with us!

Oluwanifesimi Akinwale: People that scream leave it alone usually have a routine in the leaving alone and a good takedown.

aniekaskaf: I have tried to leave my hair alone but it gets too dry and starts sound crispy to the touch. And when I say alone, I mean not remoisturizing during the week. It's not working for ME. So I'll be doing every 3 days until wash day. I also need to remember that most persons who can go 1 week without moisturizing already have their hair moisturize trained after years! So I need to listen to my hair!

Ulanie Wilson: I agree I take the feed it and then leave it alone approach. And I'm hella consistent with my routine. Y'all better listen and apply these gems.

BionAvastar3000: Happened to me! I love being a lazy natural, but I got too lazy. Had to cut a bunch off, but it's way healthier now and growing back!

Cla'aron : This is true! I left my hair alone and it grew but the ends were thin!! Had to cut my hair to APL after reaching MBL… all that “protecting but no moisture” is so true

i3abikay: Yes. This is exactly what I'm working on, keeping up with moisturizing

tara scott: Thank you for this video. What should I do to train my hair to hold moisture?

Lakeema Earth: Facts, my hair broke off a few times from me leaving it alone too long

rjmami8508: I see that LHCF shoutout I'm still over there I used to tell ppl to "love it and leave it alone". That's how I always got my hair to grow back after cutting it off.

Yasmine Wroy: Like I say over and over you are the best

Ten99: The hair splitting mid shift is what I'm dealing with. Now I know it's dehydrated.

Vkusni Wisna: NICAAAAAAAA!!!!! Sis!! I missed youuuuuuu!!! Hahaaaaaa!!! So SO good to see you here, at least! I've been lifting you up in prayer always ❤️. Are you on Etsy still? I can't find you .love you sis!! I love you so! ❤️

Scorpio 95 dolls: don't over manipulate and keep moisturized while in low manipulation hairstyles . Keep it moisturized but over manipulate your hair

Samm: Your channel is definitely my favorite!!!❤❤

Victorious Gray: Can you tell me how you rehydrate your hair? My hair is in a protective style right now, I would sprints my hair with water is that good enough? my hair gets build up easily, so im afraid to rehydrate with oils at all... i heard herbal mist is good but all I have is oil and water. would just water be good? Does herbal mists cause buildup? Just need a way to rehydrate without creating more problems for myself when its time for take down (Buildup makes more hair more knotted and makes takedown harder) Any advice would help! ❤

P P: Leaving it alone is about styling. Not care.

Oluwanifesimi Akinwale: How do you train your hair to hold in moisture ?

Natural Woman: Excellent video ❤

Cinnamon Delight: Love your videos

Nana Afia Adwubi Korankye: ❤

str. hattie: Hie Nica. My best channel... Is this how you've keep your hair since, since, since? like twist & redoing after every 2 weeks? have you ever had a 2 to 3 months old hairstyle before taking down

naturallycinderellaa: My hand always in my head

Trina's Motivation: How do you keep moisture in my hair gets dry easily.

TRUTHSERUM: Right! Leave it alone is targeted to ppl who stay doing too much. Frequent manipulation chemicals, excessive product build up and rarely cleansing. Hydration & Strengthen is a balance.
