Breakage is an act. The only way to prevent breakage is to not actively cause it. The more care you take when handling your hair, the less damage your hair will experience.

This is my new growth. After a week, I don't normally take the plaits out when I'm refreshing, my hair, but I'm going to show you all how I scoop the hair to avoid any pulling or breakage. First, let's look at the state of the plat perimeter. I'M sectioning about five millimeters of hair to show that the hair length is consistent after 14 years of having the same part, there is no breakage in the back section when it comes to edges. I never know how far into the hairline is considered your edges. Would this be baby hairs? This piece is short, but I don't think it's going to grow much longer than this. The second piece is longer, but still on the short side, I didn't feel like untangling the whole thing, since it's part of the first 10 drill, but you can see the consistency in how the length and density increases the further I go into my hairline. Looking at the entire tendril, which is about an inch to an inch and a half wide since it's parted at an angle, the density in length is there for the base plat. Once I isolate the three sections, I smooth the hairs at the back with my fingers. So they all fall in the same direction. Then I do the same thing with the front. I repeat the smoothing a few times so I know the hairs are together once I'm sure I have all the hairs in the right place. I start the plait. I always start from the back and use my pointer and middle finger to scoop and gather the front section. I do a wide scoop to make sure all the shorter pieces are also collected. Then I grab the middle section from the front and use that hand to reach over and scoop up the hairs in the back section. Then I take the back fingers that are holding my front section and grab the middle section. I'M always holding two sections in one hand, all the front hairs are properly gathered as well as the back section, and it is not tight at my scalp, the front hairs have slack. Then I plat about an inch and a half down then twist the rest, comparing the fresh twist against the weak old twist. The fresh twist is much neater, but not super tight on my scalp. All the perimeter hairs are gathered in the plait. The weak old twist is much looser at the root and the little hairs are not gathered in the plat anymore.

Tumelo: I so appreciate these videos so much... as someone who cannot use tools herself, your methods are helpful. However I tend to experience breakage in between my parts... I don't know if it's because I'm a little too rough for my hair or I have some finer strands. But we keep going... no retreat,no surrender in this journey.

J C: I have permanent parts too and my hair is waist length when straightened. If anything, the permanent parts I feel are preventing the breakage because you are not constantly using a comb through to rip through your strands to create new sections. As a matter of fact, I don’t think I’ve let a comb touch my head in years! ❤ your content as always..

W: I am excited to see if I regain any fullness & retain more length by following your suggestion to ditch the tools. Your hair is beautiful & I am hair crushing! You have given me hope to possibly remain a loose natural. MS took out a LOT of my hair & volume in 2018. I began to experience alopecia spots after & did not understand what was happening until I saw a Dermatologist. Thank God above my hair was able to grow back after a few treatments. I have been doing the least to my hair ever since. Although I love wearing wigs at times, I'm truly tired of hiding my hair. Making diet changes as well to decrease my estrogen levels. Can't wait to give you an update in 4 months. I believe it will be a game changer for me. THANK YOU FOR SHARING!!!! I have tried so many different technique & never gave up on finding one that would work for me. #CloudHairPride

Mia P.: I need to go back to permanent parts with my hair and my older daughter’s hair we have breakage throughout our hair and this maybe a part of the reason why. How did you get your parts to stay? Thank you for this sis! ❤❤

Super Life: Oh honey, you do love me! Thank you for showing how you part your hair. A few people have upset me today but you just made my day.

MsChicoro: Gorgeous as always!

Zee: This is a great vid because I've def gotten thinning in the areas where I re-use parts

MzBatyah: How do you know that your plaits simply loosen over time rather than attaining that much growth in one week? Great plating demonstration.

Gratitude: Great video! Can you do a video on weekly re-moisturizing from beginning to end.

Natural Woman: Thank you ❤

JoyB Naturals: I wish I can just get my parts neat, but I still maintain my old parts tho.

Yasmine Wroy: Thank you you are the best

i3abikay: I do that but seem to still get some breakage :(

Lakeema Earth: Yeah I couldn’t find where my edges started either or if their breaking or growing

Super Life: Ok I made my post BEFORE finishing the video. I would like to see all of your parts. Like do you part from ear to ear or slightly before or behind that. How many sections do you have in the back? How many sections are on each side? I was kinda hoping that you lift up all your hair and then drop out each set of braids layer by layer…I hope I’m making sense.

Ulanie Wilson: It's the techniques fa me.
