Hey yo its Tina and welcome back to my channel today we're going to be talking all about how to wash curly hair. I'M gon na be going into detail and really break it down and simple, easy-to-follow steps if you're a beginner at taking care of your curly hair - and this is definitely gon na - be helpful for you. This video is going to be part of my curly hair care for beginners playlist. I will link that for you in the cards as well as down below, so I'm going to show you how to go from this hot mess to this, which is definitely a lot better and more moisturize. You know what it's time to wash your curls when they start to get way down when they're really tingly and they feel really dry with curly hair. It'S a lot drier than regular hair, so you definitely want to go longer in between washes. You don't want to strip or dry out your hair, it's really important to wash it less often than you would with regular hair, but you don't want to end up with too much product buildup on your scalp and on your curls. So I do recommend washing at least once a week, or so so. First things. First, I'm gon na get in the shower and wet my hair. I always like to condition my hair first to help detangle it because with curly hair, you have to be extremely gentle when you're washing it. So that's why it's different than just shampoo and conditioning regular hair. So I like to start off with a conditioner to detangle. My hair, before I go in with shampoo I'm gon na use, diva curls washday, wonder, but you don't have to use this. You can always just use whatever conditioner you have on hand just make sure it is silicone free, and I have a video all about the curly girl method for beginners, which avoids sulfates and silicones. I will link that for you down below make sure you check out that first, because it's going to inform the products that you actually buy so washday wonder is pretty much just a detangling conditioner, it's a little bit lighter than a regular conditioner, but it does have A lot of slip which helps detangle the hair, so I'm going to apply this all over my hair. I do apply this to my roots because I have a lot of tangles at my roots when it's time to wash my hair and I'm just going to gently detangle it with my fingers. You want to start from the bottom and work your way up, because you don't want to rip the hair. You don't want to tug too much on your hair, it's extremely fragile and more easy to break when it's wet, so you want to be very careful. So that's why I recommend using your fingers at first, because if you go in with a brush or a comb, you can't feel if you're snagging or breaking your hair. So you want to be very gentle which you can use your fingers to separate the tingles, and I recommend just kind of working the product into your is and gently pulling apart, the tangles to help detangle and then also running your hands through, like a comb. So now that we have D tangled it's time to shampoo now I am going to show you how to use both a shampoo and a co-wash. A co-wash is basically like a conditioner that actually washes your hair. It'S in a cream form versus a liquid shampoo. That really suds up, I'm gon na show you both, which I recommend both and I really like both but first I'm going to start off with the shampoo, and I do recommend using a shampoo at least every other wash day or if you just feel like you Need more of a cleanse, but I really like using co washes, especially in the winter time or when your hair is really dry, so I'll show you that in a minute, but for the shampoo I'm just going to use the naughty wave hello, curl, defining shampoo! This is extremely moisturizing. This has Irish moss and avocado oil in it. This is free from sulfates parabens silicones. All that kind of stuff you want to make sure your shampoo is sulfate free, so fee is what's going to tingle up your hair, it's just going to strip the hair of the natural oils and it's too harsh for curly hair. So you really want to make sure your shampoo doesn't have that and by applying that conditioner first, we're gon na have an easier time, actually shampooing our hair and it's not gon na knot up too bad. One thing that I like to make sure of is that my hair does not feel dryer after shampooing it if your hair feels like straw, if it's matted up, if it feels really dry after shampooing it and to where you can't even get your fingers through it, Then it's probably not good for your hair or it might contain sulfates. So after shampooing your hair should not feel more dry and awful. It should feel still pretty good, but of course you still need conditioner. So when you're shampooing, you want to be extremely gentle. I like to just place my fingers underneath my scalp, so I usually start around my temple area and I go straight underneath my hair versus starting on top and then just rubbing too much because you don't want to create frizz, you don't want any friction. That'S kind of caused me breakage. You want to be extremely gentle with your hair. This is the main difference with shampooing. Curly hair is just being extremely gentle, not roughing it up too much and causing too much frizz and breakage and tangles. You want to be very gentle, especially when you're using shampoo versus like a co-wash, which is a little bit more hydrating, so, as you can see after I shampoo up, my hair still feels pretty soft like I could run my fingers through it. Of course, it doesn't feel as good as it does after conditioner, but it's not too dry or anything, and it definitely helps us apply in that conditioner. First. This is from the same line from Nadi the wave hello, curl, defining conditioner. This has avocado oil and seek help. I love really moisturizing conditioners, but I'm actually going to go ahead and show you how I co wash my favorite co-wash is the diva curl no poo, and this is called a no poo, because it's not a shampoo. It actually feels like a conditioner consistency, but when you apply it to your hair and get it underneath the water, you can tell it kind of suds up a little bit like you can actually feel it cleansing your scalp, which I really like. So if you have extremely dry hair, then this is great for that, because it's not going to dry out your hair. It'S not gon na cause too much friction or too much frizz, and I just work this all into my scalp. You might have to use more product than normal when you're shampooing with a co-wash like this, because it just takes a little bit more. You know to get that suds and stuff, and you do kind of have to stand under the water to make sure it mixes with the water, and you can get a little bit of a lather. Nothing crazy, like a regular shampoo, but I feel like my hair is getting really clean and I love using this. If you did shampoo once a week with an actual lather shampoo, then midweek like a Wednesday or so you could use a co-wash. If you still feel like you need to wash your hair, but you don't want to totally strip your hair. Anything like that and you just need a little bit more moisture. That'S a great option and another thing I love about Co washing. Is you actually don't always need conditioner? I still did apply conditioner and for that I use the diva curl one condition, which is just a great all-around conditioner, it's very hydrating on the hair, and it's not going to weigh it down, no matter what curl type you have, and I would recommend applying this. Like from the ear down, if you do have really fine curly hair, but they do make an option called the low poodle it -- and the one conditioner delight, which is a lighter form of these same products. So I'm just finishing off with this conditioner and now normally. I would not use that both of these two shampoo and conditioners, I would usually only use one or the other, but for the purpose of this video I wanted to share them both with you. So now it's time for the final rinse and I really recommend rinsing with cool water. You don't have to use cold if you want to really seal in your shine and if you want to prevent frizz, it really does make a difference. You don't have to do this, but I do notice a difference in my fridge so now that we're done washing I'd like to take my fingers and run it through my curls with curly hair that curls really start to form as soon as you finished rinsing. Your hair, so this step is really important for me to just kind of break up those curls, so the ringlets can start to form, or else it's just kind of stuck down to my head and I don't get as much volume. So I'm going to just take my hair repair towel. This is another one of my biggest tips for curly hair is: do not use a regular bath towel. Those have fibers in them. They'Re too heavy they're gon na break your hair cause so much frizz and breakage. If you don't want to get a special towel like this, you can just use a cotton t-shirt. I did that for years it works wonders, so it really soaks up the excess water and you can use this for scrunching too after you apply your product. So I love that so I just kind of loosely wrap my hair up just so I can get out of the shower, and so my hair is off my shoulders, so I can actually dry off. I usually will end up wetting my hair with a spray bottle before I apply my styling products cuz. It does obviously start to dry in this towel because it is extremely absorbent and I do like to apply my products when my hair is pretty wet. So I do like to read wet it a little bit before I actually style it, but I just want to show you what I normally do so I can actually get out of the shower without my hair. All over my back, a lot of you wonder how much shedding is normal. This is kind of gross to show, but this is about how much hair that I lose when I shampoo - and this is about after three or four days in between washes. If I were to go about a week in between my washes, there would obviously be a whole lot more hair with curly hair. It really holds on to those loose strands that you lose every day. They say you lose a hundred strands a day and if those are not able to fall out of your hair because of the texture of your hair, all of those loose hairs are gon na stay stuck up in there and so you're gon na see those come Out when you wash and detangle your hair so don't be alarmed, maybe I'll do another video on shedding and stuff. So let me know if you want to see that in the comments down, so that is it for how I wash curly hair. I hope this simplified. It for you and really helped you better understand. A lot of people will skip over this when they're explaining their wash day routine, but I wanted to just start with the very basics on how to actually wash your hair and how it's different from styling, regular straight hair. If you're transitioning your hair, I def recommend checking out that video that I have on how to transition your curls, as well as the video on the curly girl method for beginners. That'S really going to break it down in simple terms, for you on how to understand the right products to purchase and the ingredients that you want to avoid. So, if you're interested in any of these products that I mentioned, I will put links to all of them. On the blog post that goes with this video that'll be the first link down below you can head over to there. I hope you subscribe. If you haven't already, I post videos all about my three be fine, curly hair. I share really simplified tips for you guys and I also do a lot of makeup how to's and tutorials for the everyday person. So thank you all so much for watching fire. You

destiny: Thank you so much for this video! I'm 14 and I have been growing up without a mother figure in my life so I have no idea how to do anything. I have always straightened my hair because it was always so much "easier." My dads side of the family has straighter hair so nobody knows how to properly take care of my hair. I hated straightening my hair because it would only last for about a week before I had to wash my hair or else it would get dry and have a lot of dandruff which I have right now :/

Julie: currently watching this because I have curly hair that I have no idea how to take care of and i’m sick of people saying “your hair would have so much potential if you properly took care of it”

Avadoesstuff: I’ve been trying to wash my hair like it was straight and I got loose frizzy hair. Anyway this helped me a lot I definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to save their curls

Isabella thomas: My friend has beautiful straight hair and it amazes me that she can keep it so healthy while still using products with sulfates and acohol

Angela Shelby: Great video! I have been doing it all wrong. Wash my hair once per week. Seems like I loose lots of hair too. Please do a shedding video.

Heidi Woodward: Hey girl I just want to come here and say that this helped me a lot so thank you!!! My girls turned out soooo amazing... not fuzzy which is AWESOME because it’s such a problem some days idk why.. and my curls were all formed SO well and even like the part that frames my face.. like girl. This doesn’t usually happen for me lol... thank you a lot!!!!! The detail was really nice ❤️✨

Peachy Tea: I’m 12 and my mom keeps telling me to learn how to wash my hair so this will really help me.

LC619: I just stumbled across your video yesterday and realized I have been washing my hair wrong, and doing my hair routine completely wrong. I used the routine in the video and I was already loving the results last night, but when I woke up this morning I fell in love with the routine. My hair does not feel frizzy, and I didn’t have to do much to it. It feels very soft, great amount of volume, and my curls are super bouncy. I feel my scalp very clean. Thank you for making this video!!!

Hinata Shoyou: Im a asian with curly hair and its a bit rare i guess cuz all my family member has straight or wavy hair so i always had a hard time

Elisha: I’m SO glad you showed how much fallout you have after you wash and explained why it happens. I recently got a perm and have been panicking about how much hair i loose after I wash and style. I understand getting a perm can cause damage and breakage but I was not expecting to loose that much. It makes more sense now when you mentioned we typically loose 100 strands but it doesn’t actually fall out when it’s curly like with straight hair. Thank you. I can now relax a little bit about it.

Suzette Torres: I just permed my hair exactly how you have it and I love it. This helped out , thank you!

Aïcha الجمال: I am afro arab (north african) so I have extremely curly hair and this video really helps me learning how to wash it properly x

J G: Thank you! I am the only person in my immediate family with 2C/3a type hair and your video is EXTREMELY helpful! I learned so much, I didn't even know what a co-wash was before washing this!

Milani Miralles: Dang I've been taking care of my rlly long thick wavy hair the totally wrong way lol none of my family had my hair type so I never knew how to take care of my hair but this rlly helps me a lot so hopefully my hair will be healthier and have more volume

Nadine Highfield: Thank you! This is such a help! I’ve been washing my hair all wrong

Johan Dejesus: Conditioning before washing has saved my hair! I lose less hair now and I notice I'm retaining length.

raagheeba hasim: I never knew that my hair is wavy curly hair I was so surprised and I got answers why my hair is always frizzy OMG I have learnt a big lessons when I started to watch curly hair routine

emily_brandy: So somehow I never really thought about my fallout getting stuck in my hair because of the texture. I feel like I have so much in the shower. I figured it’s just because I naturally lose more hair. I don’t know how I never connected that because everything else in the world sticks in my hair I notice that there is more when I don’t shower my hair for longer just like she said too. It’s pretty consistent

MPR Studio Photography: Can you do a video on shedding. I shed a lot and not sure if it's normal or not.

Rebecca Shaye: We have the exact same curls!! That’s so awesome I’ve been looking for someone who has the same hair as me :)

Rachel Robinson: Great video! How often do you trim your hair? I’m also curious if you recommend having curly hair thinned out every now and then?

Jewel: this worked SO WELL , i have already noticed such a big difference !

Jizelle Lee: Im a 11 year old with a mom that has passed away when i was 9 and ever since i have been struggling to get my curls nice and my hair less frizzy and idk i just need some tips... Awhile back i when she did pass i would put conditioner in my scalp not knowing thats not what u do so i got alot of itchy white patches and dandruff and all but i got rid of it and im doing better but i would deeply appreciate tips of how to get my curls back and all

Madison😋: I didn’t even know I had curly hair and I was wondering why I always had weird frizzy ends so I started to try to see what I was doing wrong got a lot of curl stuff and now my hair looks like yours so I needed tips thanks queen

Dhi Nidi: It's a very clear and informative video. Thank you for giving explanation thoroughly.

Shaza Hamed: that was so informative thank you so much, i was so lost not knowing what to use when but that was really helpful <3

Kre22: My hair always sticks to my scalp when I wash it so I can't flip it over into a tshirt without it getting all tangled, even if I wash it upside down. No matter how much I detangle in the shower it still sticks in the back and top and I find it impossible to separate it at the roots so it always just comes out as a big clump in the back, how can I prevent this?

Polly Barnaby: Really good video, I have medium length extremely curly and dry hair, about a year ago I stop brushing and combing my hair and it has made such a difference my hair is less frizzy, curlier and has grown at least an inch (my hair never ever grows) I also never blow dry my hair because I end up looking like a Pom Pom only problem is my hair takes at least a day to dry naturally! Thanks for the video will be using some of your tips

lmaofonkey: thank you for this i just bought my first cowash without realizing and i applied way to much cause i thought it was a dud this video is much more informative that others ive watched on how to take care of curly hair the tips are very useful! thank you

Frog Lover: This is so helpful! I've always wanted to know how to take care of my curly hair because my mum always straighten her hair

Day6atemywallet: I’m so confused about my hair. It’s like curly when wet, wavy when drying and like soft straight by the time I comb it

Reservechic: Oh how I wish, I'd had this info when I decided to stop wasting my hair straight and start wearing it curly. I was so clueless, I swear. But, I decided that no matter what I wasn't going to give up, and that I wasn't turning back. I'm really glad that I chose to stick things pit, even when they're were some really rocky times. As, embracing being a curly girl and learning how to take care of my hair, as made my hair journey so much more satisfying for sure. I only use sulfate free shampoos on my hair, and sometimes I do co-wash my hair, with an actual co-wash, as that definitely works best for my curls, when it comes to my hair cleansing routine. Oh, and your so right about not using a regular towel in ones curly hair. I often see so many curlies using a regular towel on their hair, and they don't understand that is not best for their hair at all. I definitely stopped using a regular towel on my curls a super long time ago. Like they always say, when you learn better, you do better. Thanks a whole lot for doing this video! As, it was definitely a pleasure to watch for sure!

Allison Connelly: When you first put the conditioner in, do you wash it out THEN put the shampoo in or do you just leave the initial conditioner in?

Alysia Martin: This was so helpful for me! Thank you! Going to subscribe now!

emily mdgal: This is so helpful!! Thank you so much!

Elliot !!!: Heres the problem; I HAVE EXTREMELY THICK, CURLY, THICK HAIR

Lu Wiseman: Hi! I have fine, curly hair and I have been washing it everyday, but it gets very oily. How often do you think I should wash it so it isnt as oily?

Painting CupcakesTV: Thank you soooo much! I been doing everything wrong and I was scared because my hair was dry a really tangly! Really Thank you soooooooo much

Rita Brandow: Thank you I have been washing my hair all wrong. I really needed this

makena nicole: hey ! i have an extremely important question , i wash my hair every other day and when i was it i get my curls all pretty and defined and the next day it fine but since i don’t wash my hair the next day how do i keep it from getting frizzy and nasty the second night ?

nuclearjohnny: If I wet my hair in the shower, but don't use shampoo or conditioner, does that still count as washing it? (in the context of not washing it too frequently to avoid stripping it)

Jessica Andrea Cediel Lopez: It actually helped so much!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Cheery_cherry: When I shampoo my hair, it gets super knotted immediately, matted and dry I use the Garnier fructis and it says no parabens but it has sulfates

BusDrivingPony: Love this! But I also have psoriasis on my scalp, so how do I go about caring for my hair with that obsticle?

Alex Lopez: This video was very informative for the curly haired fellas too ! Thnx so much

Melissa Sullivan: This is very helpful. I have a question so if I need to deep condition do I shampoo first then deep conditioning or do I do this method and deep conditioning first then shampoo?

clarice.moonqn: My hair has always been straight but slightly wavy and my dad's side has curly hair so I'm gonna try a shampoo that doesn't have sls and see what happens :)

Leily M: Do you use your conditioner after you applied the shampoo again or just that once was enough at the beginning?

Deedledeedle Dumpling: Just to be clear - do I rinse the conditioner out before shampooing?

Atrice McCary: I’m thinking of trying the curly girl method but my hair And scalp really depends on head and shoulders because I am prone to dandruff and my hair gets oily easily. Is there a way to do the curly girl method with a head and shoulders 2 in 1 and little to no product? I do have gel so I can use that if needed.

Elin Lmao: I recently discovered i have curly hair, i used to treat my hair like a straight hair and it look so dry, fluffy with inconsistent straight and curl strands. Tsym for this

Lucy Relly: Every video for curly hair says to wash your hair around once a week, because curly hair is usually super dry, but my curly hair is naturally SUPER oily! (I’m part Italian so that might be why) how often should I wash my hair?

Ri Mo: Thank you learned a lot! Your hair is fun and beautiful

Catra Applesauce MeowMeow: Can you do a video on how to maintain dry curly hair? My hair always turns into a mess the second day after washing it.

SakuTibi: I do shed a lot when I apply conditioner and brush my wet hair with my fingers :c is it normal? I noticed I'm having dandruff and flakes... any idea what could it be? Is washing hair once per week is enough? How to fix it when it gets dry before a week passes? My hair tends to dry after 2-3 days and would need a fixing (I am a beginner btw)

Celest Cabello: Wow now I know why my hair is so bad. I have wavy/curly hair and I wash my hair EVERY DAY!!

사라*: Thank you! What styling products do you use?

TJ Radway: Your curly hair video was awesome and I love it

H is dead: thank you, very much :) curly hair has passed on from my family for a while, my mother has very curly hair, she ruined it as a child and it became very frizzy. now she has to straighten it or it's a mess lol My hair is beginning to curl and its very frizzy my hair used to be very long (back length lol) Hopefully my hair doesn't end hers XD no fr thx (you gained a new sub)

LeafyWasHere: When I finish Washing my hair it always immediately gets frizz if I even move or touch it a bit

Sonia Hernandez: I'm wondering if the cowash..can be used for my 4 year old toddler. She has real curly hair..and I still have things to learn. But I already do most of these things..and was wondering why she shredded and was afraid I was damaging her hair and doing something wrong. I use cantu products on her and seem to work well. I do take care of her hair alot...never looks frizzy..always has some sort of product to make it look nice. Always get so many compliments. For sure..easier to style right after a bath..and I have to wet it also..or gets frizzy. It's very hard work...and not like normal hair at all..but looks so pretty..so very worth it. I just hope she takes the time to take care of it when she gets older...because it's alot of work. Thanks so much love your videos.

History Documentary: Thanks for the vid. You and I have the exact same hair, even down to the colour.

bigfudge: thank you so much for your tips it really helped

Michelle Mtnz: Hair goals I’m trying to bring my daughters curls back to life

Gena Marie: ***UPDATE: I am no longer using DevaCurl. This video was recorded before there were issues reported with the products. My curly has is very thin and fragile, making my baby hair and edges very thin and fragile in turn, which makes it seem like I had a bald spot when my hair is wet and the volume has calmed down. Anyone knows any tips for these problems? Please let me know! Thank you ^^

kokomis beloved: your hair is perfect but, DONT put conditioner in roots , it weakens your hair. trust me i’ve experienced

llorona: im tryna get my curls back, i used to wash with keratin and take keratin supplements because i thought it was like biotin, then my hair started to straighten. this quarantine i started taking care of my hair and got it to at least 2a-2b, however im not sure if im washing it correctly or taking care of it. before i used to wash tio nacho btw i used to have 2c-3a

Perla Martinez: I don’t use shampoo I use a bar castor soap which works fine too

april: hi so i’m 13 and school is in two days and i’m really nervous to mess this up, my hair is naturally very curly but lately i’m worried it’s damaged, the hair has stopped being curly at the ends and it’s loosing its bright colour and is very dry and tangly do you have any tips?

Jasmina Pufahl: My roots get extremely greasy but my ends are dry how do I keep my roots from getting so greasy!!

confs4beeduo: so i am slightly confused- i just started embracing my curly hair about a month ago and i wash it about every two - three days bc i play a lot of sports. when i shower, on days that i don’t use shampoo, do i only use conditioner on my hair? bc that is what i do. also i apply product everyday after i shower even if it’s just conditioning. still confused if i’m doing this right or not. ‍♀️

raheeqe e: Here's the problem; I HAVE EXTREMELY THICK, CURLY, THICK HAIR ALSO AND IT`S SO ANNOYING TO WHASH IT BECAUSE AFTER IM DONE I COVERS MY HOL FACE

VsVr: Thank you! I needed this because I have curly hair but it never turns out beautiful like yours
