Hey guys and welcome back to my channel, my name is Marissa LeMay and if you're new here welcome, if you're not new here and you saw last week's video, I am creating a part two to that. So last week's video went over how to create really big voluminous curls. Today'S video is gon na go over how to create the most definition and reduce frizz, because it's curly girls, we know the frizz can get way too out of control, but I've just compiled a list of tips and tricks that I've learned over the past three years. I'Ve learned them from Instagram from YouTube my own trial and error, which there's been a lot of, but I've compiled them all on here, for you guys so, hopefully find them useful. I am going to go re-wet, my hair. It is clean. I watched it out last night. I just want to be able to show you guys as I go along the tips and tricks that I'm showing you so I'm gon na go do that. But if you haven't already, please hit the subscribe button down below and then it's concerning, okay, so tip number one is going to be style with your hair very wet, so my hair isn't dripping wet, but it's on the verge, like it's. It'S pretty wet right now. So when your hands frizz, what it's pretty much telling you is that it needs more moisture. So the best kind of moisture to start off with is just good old, normal water and then you can add moisture by using very moisturizing products. So it's also going to help with definition, because your curls are going to stay in larger clumps and they are going to tend to stick together a little bit better. Okay, so tip number two is going to be again which products you use to create less frizz and more definition, you're gon na want to get a very moisturizing product to start off with, so you can get a really good leave-in or me myself. I like to use a really good, curl cream reason everything this is because I like to use a good medium hold cream when I'm going out there more definition. So I know this works really well for my hair type and I'm gon na pair that, with the medium to strong, hold gel, but just be not your mother's curl top sculpting gel you don't necessarily have to use the same cuts through the same line, but definitely Test out they work together, mixes both of them in your hand before just to make sure that they don't get clumpy if they do it'll create the same results in your hair, so flaky here so I know these two makes it really well - and I know this One has a really good moisture and this one has really good hold. So if I'm trying to achieve more definition, I wouldn't use a mousse just because I know it's not going to really hold my curls together, help really shape that nice S or spiral curl. You can use a leave-in, but I just vote for my hair. It'S on the thicker side, so it doesn't give me that hold now that my products are distributed throughout my hair, distributed throughout my hair next tip is going to be use a styling brush whenever you are styling your hair, so my favorite I mentioned it before - is The upside down the hey Denman brush, but you do not need a specific type of styling brush. So I have a couple here that I interchange it's just depending on petrol wo employer. So I have here just a it's a detangling brush, but I've also used it to style, and then I have another brush from Sally's. That is pretty much a dupe of the Newman brush. But I have a couple of rolls in here removed to go after a different type of curl pattern, but really what a styling brush is gon na. Do I'm gon na make sure that all of the pucks that are in your hair are distributed evenly and it's going to help your curls clump together? So when I'm going after really uniform type curls, I definitely have to have a styling brush just to get the results that I want after you finish, brushing it through your hair with your styling brush, you can finger quail to get more definition. So what the important thing is is really just getting a piece of hair and trying to enhance the curl pattern here. So I'll show you this one. For example, I'm gon na brush through a long time my styling brush and then I'm just gon na twirl. It like coiling around your finger. Hence the name for your coiling and the huge gon na twist just to really help encourage the curl pattern here. And I don't do this to all of my hair that would take forever. Some people do and kudos to them because that's dedication. But I only do it to the front section right here and on each side and then I will do a few right in the back and then the very top layers of my hair. And it's really just making sure that you're going with your natural curl pattern. Because if you go against it, it's going to create the opposite effect and create really bad curl patterns because of trying to fight which way it naturally goes so the way that you can test to see what way your hair naturally curls is. I like to stretch first and let my curl pattern kind of bounce up and then I'll see which way it's rotating and then just follow that and then finger coil it that way. So like this section, for example, it naturally goes back towards the back of my hair. So I will just twist it like this, but this side does the opposite, and so this curl likes to curl inwards, so I'll make sure to do that. Just to make sure I'm not fighting against my natural curl pattern, okay, so tip number five to prevent. Frizz mostly is going to be, do not use a regular bath towel to dry. Your hair, like I said I style on it, pretty wet, so I do usually have some excess water that I need to get rid of, but do not use a cotton towel, because that will just really create frizz. The material is not great for curly hair, so instead what you can use is a microfiber towel. If you don't have one, I don't have one. I just use a regular cotton t-shirt. It'S not going to create as much friction just gon na be healthier for your hair. Two crates weigh less split ends and she's going to be kind of easier to use too. I have a ton of extra t-shirts laying around so it's great. I don't have to worry about getting my bath towels dirty every time. I want to style my hair, so I'll just use it, and I don't want my hair as wet it's gon na help with the drying process. Also, it's going to speed that up. So I will just grab my cotton t-shirt and scrunch up like I normally would like. If I didn't have a t-shirt over my head - and I was just normally scrunching, my hair, I'm just going to scrunch all the way up and all the way around still got ta be gentle a little bit just to make sure you're, not disrupting the curl clumps. That are forming and we'll do that to both sides, and then you can also give both of your hands. It really hopes, like gather your hair, all together, like it'll help with definition too, because you can get both hands kind of gather all of your hair and to really help encourage those curl clumps. I like to do it until my hair feels a little bit dip, but I know there's not gon na, be any excess water dripping from my hair. But I am just going to repeat the steps for the rest of my hair and then I'll be back with the next tip. Okay, so now that I am done with all of my hair, I put product and all of my hair, i raked it through finger. Coiled and then stretch I am going to defuse, and I've shown you guys this blow dry before it's just my old Revlon had it for a few years. I use the settings warm and then I do high speed and I will go in every now and then and do the cold setting, which is right under here, and I will hover diffuse, which means I'm not going to touch my hair at all. In order to prevent frizz, you do not want to put your fingers in your hair after you're finished styling. So now that I have it like, I like it's all scrunched it has enough product in it. I am going to keep my hands away from my hair, so I'm going to diffuse I'm going to start at the crown of my head and then work all the way down, because my ends do tend to dry a lot faster than my roots. Once it's about 85 to 95 percent, dried, then I'll go in and work the diffuser into my roots, just to give it a little bit more volume to make sure it doesn't fall flat and that's what I'm going to do right now. Okay, so it's about! I would say 85 % dry, so I'm gon na go in to my roots and kind of just use a little bit more and create extra volume now minecraft, okay. So I'm all done defusing in my hair, it's about 95 % dry. So next step is going to be to scratch out the gel cast that I have, or also known as scrunching up the crunch. So if you feel like your hair is crunchy and you don't like that filling that's totally normal, some people can wear it throughout the day. It'Ll naturally disappear with the weather outside or just kind of moving around, but I don't like for my hair to feel crunchy. So what I do is I scrunch it out, but wash your hands first, because your hands, if you notice they might feel a little sticky. If you haven't already watched them from the pugs just being dried up on your hands, you don't have to pull any strands away from the Kroll clumps. It'S just gon na create more frizz and break up the curl pattern. That'S already set either that or use a very lightweight oil. I don't use oil because it tends to weigh down my hair. I can only use oil if I'm refreshing my hair, so I will just give my hands and good wash and then make sure they're super dry. Then I will go ahead and break up this Joe cast that I have in my hair. Okay. So the last tip is going to be to make sure that you get your split ends, trimmed regularly. So I get my splitter that's trimmed around every five weeks or so you can do it sooner or longer, just depending on your hair health. But it's what ends. Can definitely trick you into making you think that your hair is frizzy when actually they're, just you know, being split from the bottom, it tends to look a little bit dry and scraggly. So I like to trim anytime. I see that my curls are not holding any definition towards the end of my hair. That'S what I know. Okay needs. A trim needs some cleaning up there. It'S just gon na make your hair look overall, a lot more healthy, so yeah, that's the last tip for you guys. These are my final results. I think it looks pretty good if I do say so. Much help definitely looks a lot different than last week's hair. Just because of the products that we use and styling techniques so play around figure out what you guys like. But this is how I reduce frizz and create more definition in my hair. But if you haven't already, please hit the subscribe button down below and I will see you guys next week.

s: video summary in case you’re in a rush before your shower : - style with your hair very wet: when your hair has frizz it needs more moisture, normal water adds moisture on top of products. your hair will stay in clumps and stick together better. - which products you use: very moisturising product (good leave in or good curl cream: medium hold), gel to hold the curls a lot better. for more definition don’t use mousse, gel provides more hold along with leave in. - after products distributed use a styling brush (most like to use denman brush but don’t need to!!). helps to even out product and clump the curls together. - after brushing with style brush you can finger coil (brush through hair once and twirl hair into a little twist sort of like a tornado). don’t have to do it to all since it takes a long time, you can do it on the most visible parts or most frizzy. go with your natural hair pattern, how to find out what that is, is by scrunching and see the way it rotates and finger coil that way. e.g inwards or outwards. - do NOT use a regular bath towel to dry your hair since the little hooks and stick up parts tend to get caught on curly hair. instead use a micro fibre towel or a cotton t-shirt. - using the t-shirt/towel scrunch up, but gentle don’t fully curve your hands over you hair and possibly disturb the curly pattern. you can use both hands and really encourage curl. don’t scrunch it dry. - use a diffuser (be careful about the heat and wind settings, much better when lower but it’s ok if it’s taking to long). when diffusing make sure not to be super aggressive and scrunch. dry away from your head first and just move the diffuser around to help lock in the curls. then go in to the roots once 85% dry and do this until 95% dry. don’t touch your hair while doing this and separate curls. - if you feel like your hairs crunchy then, you can leave this if you don’t mind, but you can scrunch out the crunch (lol) but DONT pull apart the curls. - make sure you get your split ends trimmed regularly (sooner or later depending on hair health) this can make you hair look a lot less healthy. when your curls stop holding definition at the end. lmk if you watched the video and i missed anything (i don’t think i did). stay curly.

Oxys: That moment when her before hair on the thumbnail is my hair on good days

Aindrila Das: Finally found someone with the exact same curl patterns that I have as well! Mixture of 2c/3a with some straight/wavy pieces in the lower sections of my hair but so excited to see tips that are gonna work for me :)

Aya: I swear no matter what I do, my hair never comes out curly from the crown area.. it’s always frizzy and dry.. and the hair dryer makes it worst .. your hair is beautiful by the way❤️

alizorah: My hair literally looks EXACTLY like yours when its wet but I have such a hard time getting it to consistently be like PROPERLY wavy/curly what the heckk. I've been doing a modified curly girl method for about a year now & I have had some really good wash day results but it's so rare, & I don't think I've ever had it turn out as curly & defined & voluminous as yours!!

Curliey Friez: whenever its a wash day, does anyone just like watch a bunch of these vids before they shower?

Mary Jane xo: I've been transitioning from my Chemically straightened hair and it's been a challenge and still a lot of learn and discover about my 3c type curls. But the habits/ routines that I've changed helped a lot! One was getting silk pillows. And the biggest difference made for my curls is Microfiber Hair Towel. Helped my frizz a lot and also drying my hair normally takes forever but its cut to half! And the curls are a lot more defined, I've got mine from Amazon a brand called Maria Beau https://www.amazon.com/mariabeau . It's great quality!

theSingingChef Noelle: Hey Marissa. I really love your channel. I'm so happy that I came across your channel because you really helped me embrace my curls!!! I look forward to more awesome videos from you.

Corn: it is amazing how your hair changes from when it’s wet to dry. mine looks roughly the same, yours gets SO voluminous!

Ellen Crane: I have the same curl pattern! I have been resisting the finger coiling until this point but I think I'll give it another try!

Helen: You explained the steps so well, thank you so much! Your hair is gorgeous, I hope in time mine will look half as good. With love from a currently damaged curl pattern

jasmine: You have the prettiest curly hair i’ve ever seen! Its color, length, thickness, shape, definition & shine! Goals omg

Cynthia Renee: I finally decided to stop arraigning my hair and to go natural and I’m new to loving my curly hair your videos are a life saver thank you

Martina Diaz: This was such an informative and straight to the point video ! Thank you so much for the hep!!

Elizabeth Bohanan: Your hair is PERFECTION! Trying to get my curls back, love your tips!

Ava Z: This video was super thorough! Thank you so much!!! I can’t wait to try your method❤️

Paula Nunes: Your hair is everything girl, thank you for the tips!

Yesenia Romero: You are absolute right with all of your tips!! I been on this journey as well and i learned alot from tik tok and IG lol .. you explained everything SOOOOO WELL!! Thank you! I love your hair

Stephanie Mendoza: Thank you for these tips! I have frizzy curls I’m gonna try this when I wash my hair

Maria Daniela Manzur: Yes!! This is so helpful we have a similar curl pattern! It’s been actually hard to find this pattern lol. Do you part your hair? I struggle with that, because when I part it it looks flat, but when I don’t it looks less defined :(

Aliah: 1. Style with wet hair 2. Rake leave-in-conditioner/curl cream and gel into hair (to hydrate and hold) 3. Use a styling brush to distribute product if desired 4. Finger coil to face frame and some pieces in the middle for definition (with the curl pattern) 5. Use a microfiber towel or t-shirt instead of a regular towel to prevent frizz 6. Use a t-shirt to scrunch lightly 7. Diffuse on low setting not touching the hair with your hands 8. Scrunch out the crunch 9. Get trims regularly

Cathi Smith: So happy that I stumbled across this video. Like you, I have a very large amount of hair that takes hours to dry, even though it's only about shoulder length at the moment. I have never been able to use a dryer on it, as I immediately get (even more) 'halo' frizz. If I have my dryer on low speed, it still does it. It's a big problem all of the time, even with air drying. Do you have any suggestions?

Allison: Thank you! I've been watching a few videos this week that have all different tips. But I think your hair is the closest to mine. I always struggle with controlling the frizz.

Sabrina G: Our hair is SO similar! Thanks for the tips

Angela Monahan: I have a similar hair type, but its nowhere near as gorgeous as yours. I'm still trying to recover my hairs from HEAT DAMAGE! ‍♀️ But you're my new inspo to be patient and not give up. You got a new sub. Thanks!!

Ellen R: Thank you this was so helpful! I only had wavy hair when I was younger so this a little new to me. Not complaining about it at all, thanks again!

Daphne Gsell: GORGEOUS curls! Thanks for the tips

shuhnellx: Thank you for this, I needed it!! Also your hair is so gorgeous wow!

Kirsten: You have such pretty hair! My hair was that length, but I regret ever having a layer cut as it made my hair look shorter and what coincidence. I have the exact same diffuser and use the same gel lol

olivia: It;s so good to see a youtuber with the same hair type and curl pattern as me. except my roots REFUSE to curl they're almost pin straight only slightly wavy but from my shoulder down are exactly like urs I've tried everything

maddie xxx: I have never seen my hair type, straight at the roots and it goes into my curls. But I have 2c-3a hair w some 2a and 2b strands

Gen Smiley: I'm so glad this video ended up on my feed. My hair seems very similar to yours...I think! I just started my natural curly hair journey this summer. My curl type is 2b/2c/3a. I have long, thick hair and used to have LOTS of it. I'm talking like Cousin It lots of it. Lol. But I was diagnosed with Grave's disease last year and since then, about half of it has fallen out. Weirdly enough, for most people, now I look like I have a normal amount of hair. That's my silver lining :) Anyway, I appreciate the way you're demonstrating your tips and tricks. Unlike a lot of other hair care YouTubers, you not only show what you do, but explain why you do it! That makes a big difference!

rainbow: I'm currently in the transitioning phase and I have similar 2b/2c and some 3a curls. My biggest issue currently is the frizz I get at the crown of my head. Its like a halo of frizz on my head close to my roots Please help me with that. What is it that I need to do to not have that halo effect!

shwetha: Starting my curly journey! This helped.. Subscribed :)

Jill Wilson: I finally found someone with my same hair type and actually same length love the information you give please keep it up

Kittyhawk: Your hair is beautiful. Going to give your tips a go and keep my fingers crossed

Abc123 Def456: Now, after you do this, what do you do on day two and day three to “refresh” your curls? Mine gets frizzy as soon as I lay down to sleep.

Lizbet PCB: Thanks for the tips. Your hair gorgeous, and so are you!

Sarah K Scarlet: Finally someone with my hair type please do a wash day routine ❤️

Maria Vargas: Thanks for your tips on this video. What are thoughts or opinion about washing hair with shampoo that is sulfate free paraben-free shampoo to control frizz and/or really dry thick and curly hair? :)

Rosangelica Perez: Hi! Thank you for Making this video ! My hair is also on the thicker side and I also find that a leave In doesn’t lock in moisture. Are there any coconut free products you use that help with this ? Thank you !

Yamari Arevalo-Rojas: Yes!!! Someone with a youtube channel that has the same curl pattern as I do! I'll be following you from now on :D

Elin Widén: Found your channel yesterday and I’m OBSESSED. You look absolutely gorgeous, you seem like such a sweet person and your hair is seriously perfect.

Genesis M: so happy we are hair twins... have you ever tried the garnier frutis curl treats shaping jelly ? it’s curly girl friendly!!! please let me know your thoughts on it.. or maybe try it out and see if you like it. it’s a jelly but i don’t use too much since i don’t want it to weigh down my hair!

hathafun: Your hair looks gorgeous! Thanks for sharing!

Boa Gotcha: Just subbed! Thanks for the tips, I really never learned how to style or take care of my curls. I’m sure I might have missed it but I was wondering what shampoo&conditioner you use? Anyways, love your hair and good luck on your YouTube journey

Robin Banuelos: Thanks for such a helpful video! I accidentally deleted my previous comment before realizing you replied! I just saw your response via email in which you said you brush beneath the hair, instead of above it, because it gives you volume. I have one more question... You mentioned you don't use oil because it weighs down the curls. However, you said that you do use oil to "refresh". What do you mean by "refresh"? Lastly, with your help I diffused my curls for the first time and they are soooo beautiful!!! I finally have voluminous, shiny, and frizz-free curls. I wish I could send you flowers! I found myself applying more products in-between drying because frizz began to form so maybe all add more initially next time. Now, I also understand why you initially worked in sections. My hair was falling flat at the crown because I just brushed it all together. However during the last 5-10% of drying, I lifted my roots with the diffuser as you suggested, scrunched, and finger-coiled by the crown as well. That did the trick!

Isabella Soares: Coloca opção para legendas em português, sou do Brasil e queria muito assistir seus vídeos… não sei muito falar inglês

Karen Rogers: Hi love your channel actually binge watching it ! Question my hair comes out nice and curly from the not your mothers cream and gel BUT I have so much halo frizz it’s so gross ! What should I do ? I would love to so you a picture but it’s embarrassing.. Need your help bad ❤️

okandehatdoyouwantmetodoabit: If anyone is struggling with a lot of frizz I recommend you getting a Brazilian blowout it’s a game changer my curls are now frizz free

S B: I genuinely didn't think it would come out like that. Wow!

K: You and I have such similar hair. I have 3a on the top and 3b on the bottom instead. I have the same level of volume and the color is almost exactly the same. You are beautiful btw :) thank you for the vid. I can take some tips for my 3a hair potions.

Tara Jenkins: She’s so pretty!!!! Her Hair is goals!!!!

Arianna Arredondo: have you used the Maui curling smoothie? I have used it and I also have 2c/3A curls with thick hair, I don’t know if I used it wrong but I feel it weighed down my curls. Would love to hear you review this product.

Eli M: Finally found someone who has the same hair type as mine New subbie

A Slice Of Hope: You’re video is very helpful thank you! Could I ask you what you do with your hair the next days after you styled it before the next wash day? Do you sleep with a wrap?

Mia Roberts: I love this channel, I have the hair you had so I hope mine will become as pretty as yours <3

Jessie Young: Your hair is gorgeous! My curls look like garbage... I have inconsistent curls with some waves and some loose curls and straight hair on the underside (hair closest to my neck). My curls also stretches out straight near the scalp. And frizzy. It’s a mess! I previously permanently straightened my hair for 20 years but stopped 2 years ago because I got pregnant. I’m just starting to embrace my natural curls. Hoping your tips can help me. Thanks!

June Agundez: I love the shape/cut of your hair! Can you tell me what I should tell my hair dresser if I want similar shape/cut like yours?

Noel Thompson: My problem is when my hair dries the bottom gets caught and gets pulled so then won't hold a curl

Kat Bello: loved this video question: do you have an oily scalp?? I have such a hard time following most curly girls’ suggestions because they tend to have very dry hair and scalps & can last many days without washing, however my scalp is extremely oily and I don’t know how to work with it!! Lmk if you have any tips :)

Noel Thompson: I do all of this except the figure method. And still gets frizzy. My curls don't bounce up like yours do when I try the finger curl method.
