How I up my YouTube game!

https://www.tubebuddy.com/swavycurlyco...

I have a dilemma. My hair parted on this side is not falling in my face, but it looks weird, but when i flip it over here where it looks normal, it keeps kind of falling into my face, but anyway hey there guys welcome back to my channel. If you don't know me hi, my name is courtney and i love playing around with products to improve the health of my wavy curly hair. You may have noticed that i have stopped talking about the curly girl method. There is a reason for that. I can go into further detail in another video if you're interested comment down below. If you want to hear my full thoughts on the curly girl method. But if you're brand new here - and you really want to learn more about how to style your waves and curls learn how to improve the health of your hair and embrace the hair that you were born with, go ahead and subscribe and click that notification bell. I'D love to get to hang out with you some more also. I get asked a lot about what schedule i use to wash my hair and i understand when you first start this process, it can feel really overwhelming and you don't know where to start. I'Ve actually created a wash day schedule if that's helpful to you just to have a rough outline, a guide of when to wash your hair and what to use to wash your hair with go ahead and check out the description down below. If you'd like to get a free wash day schedule, but enough about that, it's just there if you need it, let's talk about the hidden gems at the drugstore. I am really excited for this video. I like products that are affordable and i have a box. That'S full of stuff. First off i'm going to cover different categories, i'm going to tell about a couple of products in each category used for a wavy curly wash day that i like and, as i say that i'm going to use a couple. I will break that rule with the first category, which is clarifiers. I personally am very opinionated on what counts as a clarifier and what doesn't but take that with a grain of salt. I know what works for me and i know what i like, but if you found a product that clarifies the build-up off your hair, that's your favorite good, also another disclaimer. While i have tried a lot of products from the drugstore and from other places, i haven't tried everything. So if your favorite product isn't included, let us know, let us know your favorite product and tell us why, in the comments, it's your favorite seriously like let's help each other out, because i only have one head and i can only try out so many products. So if i missed your favorite, let us know so all that being said, let's talk about clarifiers for the longest time i loved the suave daily clarifying shampoo. However, thanks to a very kind subscriber, i found out that the formula had been changed and it was the formula of that shampoo that i loved so much. I also really loved the 97 cent price tag, but ah what are you gon na do, and i talked about this in greater detail in another video, but currently my favorite clarifying product from the drugstore is this neutrogena anti-residue shampoo. The reason for that is is that it's a very simple ingredients list. It contains sodium lauryl sulfate, not laurel sulfate, because laurel is more stripping. Laureth is slightly more gentle. It'S got a chelating ingredient in there. It'S not really good for removing hard water buildup, but i find that this removes oil. Shea butter, poly, quaternium product buildup from my hair, so well it will remove silicones from your hair as well. It'S a great, incredibly basic cleanser. I really love to use this once to twice a month depending on how my hair is doing, but this is not technically curly girl approved. If you plug this into any of your ingredients checking websites, it will kick it back as not being good for wavy curly hair. This is a tool in my wavy curly arsenal. This is meant to help remove build up. It is only meant to be used once or twice a month. Every time my hand touches this bottle. The other hand is reaching and grabbing for a deep conditioner, and i have carved out 30 minutes of my day to allow that deep conditioner to sit on my hair. I no longer use sulfates for daily cleansing. I have noticed a huge difference in my hair since cutting out using sulfates every time i wash my hair. What do i follow this up with? You may ask from the drugstore what are some drugstore hidden gem deep conditioners, i'm glad you asked my two favorite deep conditioners from the drugstore. Are the shea moisture, hydrate and repair protein power treatment and then the other really amazing at deep conditioner? Is the myell bella, zoo and mint deep conditioner all right? Let me let's just talk about the name of this. No, it's not a protein power treatment. I wouldn't even consider this a protein treatment on any level. Okay, guys fun story. This product looks like it has been discontinued. I did not know this while i was filming it, but when i went to look up the price yeah, it looks like they discontinued it. That being said, there is a pretty good substitute for this. I really think that the shea moisture intensive hydration mask for dry damaged, hair looking at the ingredients, is a fair substitute for this product. Let'S continue, typically, the bar that i use to measure whether or not a product can be considered and or used as a protein treatment is that it has to contain a hydrolyzed protein in the first five ingredients. If it does not contain a protein in the first five ingredients, it's not a protein treatment. That being said, this is a really nice deep conditioner. It is one of the very few products from shea moisture that works for my hair. That being said, this is the product that does now in the ingredients label. I cannot see because i've been looking at the ring light and i feel blind and i've started wearing glasses, but if i wear glasses well, this you get blinded by the ring light. So, let's see, if i can read these ingredients, shall we so you've got water, ceteral, alcohol, the hetramonium chloride. The fifth ingredient is shea butter. The reason that i paused on ceteral alcohol is that ceteral alcohol is an emulsifier. Now, the majority of the time shea moisture doesn't work for me, it is when shea butter is higher up on the ingredients list than saterro alcohol, because cetera alcohol comes several ingredients before the shea butter. In this formulation, i don't find that the shea butter is too heavy for my hair or builds up on my hair. Now we keep going through the ingredients list and haha we run into yogurt powder. That is just above halfway through the ingredients list, and that is supposed to be the protein power treatment part of this product. I disagree if, if it's a whole intact protein from yogurt, it's really going to behave more like a film forming humectant rather than a reconstructive protein treatment. That being said, film forming humectants are awesome. I just wouldn't reach for this product. If i was in a moisture overload situation, if i'm really needing to undo some damage asap, this isn't the product. This is a fantastic basic, hydrating nourishing product. There is one ingredient in this product that took me a long time to understand and it's way down at the bottom of the ingredients label and rather than oh there's, hydrolyzed keratin way down there at the bottom. This must be a different formula. I'Ve bought two bottles of these. It'S been reformulated a little bit since my first bottle, because the first one did not have hydrolyzed keratin in it. This ingredient hydrolyzed vegetable, protein, p, g, propyl, yeah. It'S that word that i can't say cilantrial. This is technically a hydrolyzed protein, silicone hybrid ingredient and for the longest time i was like shea moisture put a silicone in their product. In fact, they use that ingredient a lot in their conditioners. While it is a protein, silicone hybrid, it is water soluble. It will not build up on the hair and, if you have bleach damage in your hair, that ingredient is amazing. At helping your hair retain moisture, it really binds to the lifted places on your hair cuticle and creates a nice little seal on your hair without continually building up on itself. So if you haven't been using this product because you threw it into an ingredients, checking website - and it kicked back as having a silicone - just know that that particular ingredient does not behave like dimethicone and that there may be some really good benefits for your hair. In this product, if i talk this much about the ingredients of each and every single one of these hidden, drugstore gems, this is going to be a long video. So we better hurry up. Moving on to the myel babassu deep conditioning treatment, this this product is the closest thing i have found at the drugstore to like a protein treatment that i like that, i'm going to use on my hair. I have yet to do an effigy treatment on my hair. Those scare me those are intense. I bought this at target and i like this because it's not incredibly heavy and it does contain a ton of amino acids. Now amino acids are very good for low porosity, hair and coarse hair. So if your hair typically doesn't like protein but you're finding yourself in a place where you need some protein in your life and you need to do a good, deep treatment type session, this is the product you really want to reach, for it does not have a Protein in the first five ingredients on the label, but it does have a bunch of different amino acids and they're in the top ten starting in the top ten ingredients. So i really do like this. My only note on this is that it is very minty and very tingly. You have been warned. I do like it, though, all right that covers my favorite products for clarify deep condition, treatment session from the drugstore. Let'S move on to basic wash day talking about low poos. These are foaming sudsing cleansers that do not contain a sulfate that are safe to be used every wash day. If you have super dry hair, you might not be reaching for a low poo. Every time you wash your hair, i do recommend that, even if your hair is really dry, you do use something that foams and lathers on your hair at least once a week and then maybe sub in some co-washing. If your hair's super dry, we interrupt this video to bring you editing, courtney. Yes, i did put my glasses up on my head, so i wouldn't be blinding you with the glare from the window. I spent all this time talking about low poos and when you should co-wash - and you know what i completely forgot to mention - which co-washes from the drugstore i love mainly because i didn't have them in my cabinet and didn't put them in that little box behind me. So i forgot to talk about them. I love co-washes from as i am i really like the original co-wash, as well as the dry itchy scalp co-wash. The original co-wash is a great basic standard. Co-Wash awesome amazing. If you want to try a co-wash, try that one and if you are really struggling with dry itchy, flaky scalp, if you've used head and shoulders before in your past, try the as i am dry itchy scalp. It is amazing for treating different scalp conditions. Okay. Thank you for tolerating this little break from editing courtney, to talk about co-washes back to the video. But if you're like me - and you have very fine low porosity hair that gets build up on it in two seconds and is super oily, you will probably be wanting to low poo your hair. Every time you wash in style, okay, the first low poo that i i know this has been out for a while, but i'm just now getting around to trying this. This is awesome. Suave came out with this product designed for natural hair, as it says on the bottle, it is a sulfate free cleansing, shampoo, it gently, cleanses and moisturizes. I agree with that. This gives a really good lather. It'S got kind of like this flex, cd type texture and you may be reading this and say: oh but courtney, i have wavy fine hair and it's got shea butter and pure coconut oil in it. That sounds like a recipe for ick on my hair. Well, i do have something to say about that: they put coconut oil and shea butter as the fourth last and third last ingredient on this ingredients label. There is only the tiniest amount of shea butter and coconut oil in this product. I feel like it just barely gives a little bit of slip to the hair. My hair was clean and my hair was fine. After this, it does not weigh down my hair. In fact, i used it on this wash day, and this was a very voluminous shiny. Happy wash day, the reason that this is a particularly interesting product from the drugstore is that it is sulfate free and it's gentle. I find that a lot of the sulfate-free cleansers from the drugstore they use so many different surfactants in it that aren't sulfates, that when you layer surfactant on surfactant on surfactant, it can get a little strong and a little bit stripping, whereas if they had just used The one sulfate it would have been actually more gentle. It'S ironic, it's ironic, it's weird how that happens, but this one's gentle, because it contains cocametapropyl butane and sodium methylcocal tatarate as the only two surfactants it cleans. Well, it smells really good. This fragrance is reminding me of something, and i can't think of what it reminds me of i'm, not big tropical scent person. This isn't terribly tropical. I like this and it's cheap now, if you're needing something a t9c bit stronger for your hair, just slightly more cleansing, because that wasn't getting it done for you, you might really like the maui moisture, lightweight, hydration hibiscus water shampoo. This contains one of my favorite surfactants, which is sodium c14 c16 olefin sulfonate. This is a magnetic buildup remover, meaning that it is really good for things like polyquaterniums that build up on your hair. It smells really nice, it lathers. Well, it leaves your hair very, very clean. I do find that i need to reach for a hydrating kind of conditioner after i use this and really spend my time squishing to conditioning my hair, but this is a really nice option for fine wavy low porosity hair. If your hair is a little dryer and a little coarser, you might like this better. Next up, we have conditioners, i really like the cantu hydrating cream conditioner. This is so slippery on the hair. If you really struggle with slip, if you just started this process and your hair is very bleach, damaged and or heat damaged, and you find that you are spending a lot of time finger, detangling your hair in the shower on wash day and you're you're dying, run Out to your local walmart heck just about everywhere, target cvs, walgreens and grab a bottle of this. It does smell very, very tropical. So it's not my favorite scent, but it's incredibly slippery and i avoided cantu products for a very long time. Thinking that the shea butter and heavy nourishing oils and butters in it would be too much for me, but it's not because we've got water, ceteral, alcohol, acetyl, alcohol, then shea butter. I don't find that this builds up on my hair. It'S got crazy, good slip and it hydrates really nicely next up. I really like this. This is a hidden gem. I don't hear anyone talking about. This is the kristen s fragrance free, shine, enhancing conditioner, it's sulfate, silicone and drying alcohol free and it contains decent protein. I find that that is something very hard to find at the drugstore is to find well-formulated products that also contain protein. If you're wondering why i'm spending any time talking about protein and moisture and all that jazz, i do have a playlist all about protein moisture balance. But this is awesome if you are looking for a conditioner from the drugstore that is fragrance free, that's silicone! Free! That'S all the things plus some protein grab this. It is not as hydrating as the cantu, but i loves this hey there guys editing courtney. Here again, i just keep jumping into this video all over the place. This time, i want to talk to you about iso. Decking, i have had several people reach out to me and tell me that this ingredient is not curly girl approved and lo and behold, when you throw that ingredient into ingredients, checking websites like curlsbot or is it cg.com? Those will tell you that that is a non-improved ingredient, because it's a wax and an oil, but when i did some research on that ingredient on the internet, i found that it was actually an emulsifier and it contained a pretty high evaporation rate. So this ingredient is fine for your hair. It'S going to help emulsify all of your ingredients together, as well as evaporate fairly quickly out of the product. So there you go. There'S some info on iso decking. Let'S continue the video! Now, let's talk about leave-in products, leave-in conditioner, to be specific! Also, no, you may not leave your rinse out conditioner that i just talked about in your hair as a leave-in, and i've talked about that reason before, but the ph of rinse out conditioners is slightly acidic. If you continually leave slightly acidic conditioner on your hair over time, it will wear on your hair a bit and we don't want acid damage on our hair. It won't really cause extreme severe acid damage. You would have to do it a lot over a long period of time to really have noticeable damage from doing that, but really they're kind of heavy they're meant to be rinsed out, they're, really nourishing and moisturizing. And if you use a leave-in conditioner, their ph is formulated to be left on the hair. Okay, let's continue, this is the cantu curl activator cream. Again, i avoided this product for a long time, thinking that it would be too heavy for my hair. It isn't too heavy at all if you use the right amount and if there's enough water in your hair. Another reason that i really enjoy this product is that it contains silk amino acids a little bit of a protein. I find that that particular protein adds a lot of nice slip to my hair. Even after wash day, i feel the effects of that ingredient on my hair post wash day the next leave-in from the drugstore that i love is an oldie but a goodie. I have been using this for so long. I first heard real life curly girl talking about this forever ago. This is the most absorbent lightweight hydrating amazing leaf in i have ever used. This is the as i am classic leave-in conditioner, it's glycerin and protein free. It'S it's a little bit more expensive at the drugstore, but you do not need much of this. It has a really light: lightweight sweet, coconutty smell. It'S not super heavy coconut. I have very fond memories of this product, maybe because i've been using it for three years, but if you are looking for a good lightweight but hydrating product just try this and thank me later, we are finally moving on to stylers there's only a few products left In my box yay all right, this is a hidden gem from the drugstore. No, i did not discover this. My friend jackie over on instagram is the first one i saw talking about this product and i thought she was a little bit crazy at first, but she's made really good product recommendations in the past, so i trusted her and i got the harry's sculpting gel. Yes, my label is rubbing off and yes, this is the men's razor brand hair gel. There is something so special and unique about this product. It'S protein and glycerin free when you first use this make sure you really emulsify it in your hands. Really take your time. Rubbing your hands together before you apply it to your hair, make sure your hair is soaking, soaking, soaking, wet and when you scrunch it in you'll, be like whoa shrinkage. What just happened? It almost shellacks your hair into place, and if you use too much, your hair will feel a little bit gritty. It leaves this gritty feeling on your hair that can actually be kind of a nice thing if your hair is slightly too smooth and silky and you're. Finding that it's falling flat very quickly, try this product it'll, give you some grit and some juju. The only downside to this product is that gritty feeling and you will smell like a dude, a very attractive dude. I like the way this smells and yes, the smell does linger. I have not found that it has like clashed terribly with any of my other products, but i haven't combined it with every single product that i own, and there is a chance that this fragrance would clash with other fragrances at some point if they ever come out With a fragrance free version, i'm down i'm all about that. You should really try this hair gel. It'S so cool! It'S alcohol! It'S like curly girl, approved alcohol, free, silicone, free all the good things great hold. If you need hard hold dude check out harry's, but if you hate gritty and crazy hard hold, if you don't need your hair to be crunchy and like shellacked into place, you might really like the aussie instant freeze, gel. They had a different formula of this product. A long time ago i tried it. I really liked the original formula i drug my feet for forever before i would try the new formula, because i had heard people saying that the new formula was terrible and i kind of wish i'd tried it for myself sooner. I like it, i like this new formula. It'S medium hold medium to light hold, it makes my hair very, very shiny, and it gives me a very soft sort of beachy look and it makes my hair feel really tangle, free and very slippery. Now that is probably because my hair loves aloe and i can use raw, not raw, aloe gel, but like sunburn, aloe gel on my hair and my hair likes it. If your hair likes aloe try this product, i like the way it smells. I would not say that it's like maximum hold like they claim definitely medium to light hold, but this product layers really well with other products now a product you might want to layer that with would be a mousse. My friend heather over on instagram, has really championed the technique called gel plop mousse, meaning that you apply your gel. Then you plop your hair. Then you apply a mousse. I just used this too. For the first time recently, i used it as a single styler. It'S nice. It makes a really nice single styler. I was a little nervous about the fact that it contained jojoba oil jojoba oil is like a sealing oil, not a penetrating oil. I get nervous using sealing oils because i feel like they're, going to be too heavy for my hair. I didn't find this to be heavy on my hair, i had great volume, incredible shine and really good hold like this is actually maximum hold, but their gel isn't. I would combine those two together all day, long and be so happy. This is a really nice mousse. I'Ve tried several other foams and mousses from the drugstore, and none of them have the hold that this has, and this didn't leave my hair feeling product-y or build uppy most mooses. I avoid because they give this weird gritty, buildupy strange sort of unpleasant feeling in my hair, not a good gritty like a bad gritty and like like lotiony, almost gritty lotion. It'S weird, i'm sorry, i'm not doing a very good job of describing it. This does not do that to my hair. It gives hold and shine and a little bit of slip not as slippery as the aussie gel, but this is a neat product good find from the drugstore now, if, for whatever reason, you don't feel like trying that mousse, the other moose that i do like from The drugstore is the not your mother's curl, tuck mousse. This is way more spendy, it's like eight dollars and it says soft touchable hold like it's a two out of five on their hold scale. I don't think so. It actually has medium medium hold medium to hard hold. This is a wash day where i used this product exclusively on my hair. It did really well it made my hair really pretty. It has a fantastic fragrance. I do have to be careful with how much i use if i do use too much. I get that weird mousse feeling on my hair, but if i don't use too much of this product, i get really nice wash day results. So if you don't have aussie in your store, try not your mother's get these. This is good all right guys. That is it for this video. These are the hidden gems at the drugstore that i have currently been really loving. I have done an affordable, curly, hair products video, but that was an incredibly long time ago. Some of these products - i've talked about before some of these i haven't talked about enough. I sure hope this video was helpful to you if you liked it go ahead, and let me know by giving this video a thumbs up, and i hope you are having an absolutely fantastic day and i will talk to y'all later bye. Why? Why are you on my nose?

Cindy N: Your hair looked great parted on either side! It only seemed weird to you b/c you're not used to see it like that, but for people who don't see you every day, it didn't look weird!! ☺

Kim Hefley: This is exactly what I needed! Instead of standing in the store for two hours with my head spinning reading the back of bottles

Rachel_E: For protein treatments, I love Hask conditioner packets. A few of those are packed full of proteins in the first 5 and 10 ingredients.

Mandy L: I'm so thankful for this video! Most of my favorite wavy haired peeps seem to have stopped using drugstore products lately and I've really been needing some inexpensive guidance! Also, I've recently discovered that Suave low poo and was super curious about it. I'm definitely gonna have to try it now!

SoGoFun: I really appreciate the mousse recommendations. I've been playing around with using the Not Your Mother's Curl Talk mousse and have enjoyed the results it's been giving me. But I've also noticed that gritty, sticky feeling in my hair that you mentioned with it. I need to play with the amount I'm using to see if I can adjust it, but I might also give the Aussie one a try once I finish this bottle up.

Deandra Johnson: Definitely would love ur CG thoughts. I’m pretty anti-CG myself now. I used it as a jumping off point but I’ve been natural for 15yrs now and my hair is super healthy so really just using what works whatever it is, is best.

strngenchantedgirl: Courtney your knowledge of ingredients is getting really impressive.

K E L L S E Y: So yes I think we all want to know your thoughts on the curly girl method, meanwhile, I'm saving this video so that I can take notes because when I'm in the store I lose my mind trying to figure out what I want to try that meets the CGM "rules" I like the method because after 40 years I love my hair again. I only wash my hair about once every couple of weeks.

hibiscus10moon: the cast i get from the harry’s gel is amazing for me. i always layer it with kinky curly custard, and it’s a perfect hair day. if i use harry’s alone, sometimes the ends of my hair are a little pokey. it must have to do with the “grit” you mentioned. i know kinky curly has aloe in it, maybe that helps me smooth the ends.

kiss4claire: Thanks for this video! Your deep dives into ingredients are so interesting, and I'd like to hear your current take on CGM and some of the ingredients banned if you follow it strictly. I've also been wanting a low poo that was gentler than the C14/16 surfectant - I'll be grabbing the suave soon!

Courtney Beaulieu: As someone who recently started CGM and has been following you through it, has looked up to you and your amazing advice, I would love to know your thoughts in CGM!

Danielle Joy: YES please do a video about CGM thoughts! As a hair dresser I don’t even fully believe in it I did it and I maybe only did for a few months and I think it isn’t necessary to restrict yourself like that when it comes to your hair ‍♀️

Nicole G: I've really been liking the Cantu Flaxseed Smoothing Cream Gel - it's not a firm hold, but it leaves my hair so shiny and it's enough hold for me. It comes in a huge jar for the price!

Floridameerkat93: I completely agree with you about the Shea Moisture Manuka Honey and Yogurt deep conditioner. I used to use it as my go to for when my hair needed protein, but I never really saw my hair curl up after using it. I didn't even realize it wasn't working until I used the Hask Keratin deep conditioner twice in a row and my hair actually started to form waves on its own after getting out the shower. I barely had to do anything to it when styling to get it to form nice looking waves/curls. With the SM deep conditioner, I was still fighting my hair to get it to style the way I wanted it to because it wasn't depositing enough protein into my hair.

Sarah Jones: Yes tell us about the move away from curly girl! Newly embracing my waves and definitely had trouble finding ‘curly’ talk that specifically addresses waves.

Carly M: Yes, love a good affordable hair product! My hair also can’t get enough protein and agree it’s hard to find conditioners and stylers that have it at the drugstore. Definitely gonna try the Suave low poo when I run out of the one I’m using now. My favorite cheap products are: Texture ID deep treatment masque, NYM matcha green tea and apple masque and GVP conditioning balm from Sally’s. I always add a few drops of neutral protein filler and from time to time do a gelatin treatment, my hair loves it!

Susan Schreyer: LOVE all the info about ingredients. It's so hard to find out what they're all there for and what the benefit is. I am totally on board with you doing an ingredients video. Thanks!!

Meera Solomon: I really like Herbal Essence TotallyTwisted and Aunt Jackie’s Anti Frizz for mousse. Camille Rose Ginger Rinse has recently become a favorite low poo. It’s super gentle and super sudsy at the same time.

Chelsea-Storm de Meillac: Your make up, that colour you’re wearing, the hair- all are really working for you! You look great

Jasmine B: I love these kinds of videos Courtney! I learn sooo much from you, have you tried or are you considering trying the function of beauty shampoos/ conditioners with the booster shots that are now sold in Target? I’m using them now and would love to know your thoughts

Katelyn Hardie: Thank you for making this!! Im just starting my journey with my wavy 2c hair and Im in my teens and dont have money for the products that alot of people use. Im also trying to decide what products I should use so thank you!! Also you look AMAZING as usual. please do a video on the cgm

Kayla Boyd: I actually love a lot of the Pantene products. Some of my favorites are Pantene Curl Defining Mousse, Pantene Air Spray #4, Pantene Pro-V Flexible Wave/Curl Sculpting Gel, Pantene Pro-V Maximum Hold Mousse, Pantene Nutrient Blends Hair Volume Multiplier Conditioner with Bamboo, Pantene Pro-V Nutrient Blends Complete Curl Care Shampoo, and Pantene Nutrient Blends Complete Curl Care Moisture Lock Curl Mist Spray. All appear to be CGM approved per CurlScan.

Jesse Smith: Great video - exactly what I needed right now! Your hair is gorgeous!

Yvonne L: I got the Harry’s Gel today and my 2b hair almost hit 2c, it was amazing!!! I also love how inexpensive it is.

MJ Kawai: Great video! One of my hidden gems is Cantu 'Come Back Curl' next day revitalizer. I love it, love the price too

Naomi Johns: That's really interesting about the Maui Moisture Lo-poo. I used without using ANY conditioner afterward (because I didn't have any) and just used a leave-in conditioner and my scalp felt super clean and my waves/curls turned out really shiny and pretty! My hair is also really thick too so that might have something to do with it XD. Love your videos btw!!!

Jenn Leah: Cantu's Avocado hydrating cream shampoo/conditioner are great drug store choices that don't weigh down my fine-ish curls. They also have a flaxseed smoothing line (only have the conditioner which is listed as rinse out or leave in but is a bit thick as a leave in for me) which is awesome too!

Pamela Conrad: FYI - as of 4/6/21 Ulta has the Shea Moisture Hydrate + Repair Protein Power Treatment deep conditioner available online... it is one of my favorites too so I paused the video to see if it was still available!!!

Briena Rivera: That’s so weird I was actually looking into buying that Shea moisture treatment recently and have successfully found itfirst time something is “discontinued” in the states but accessible in Canada

Abigail Gopher: Yay another drugstore video! I love when youtubers show affordable products. They often work just as well, no need to buy expensive ones!

Kayla N: I am fine using a sulfate clarifying shampoo. It's the only thing that's going to get the gunk out. I have fine curly/wavy hair and sulfate-free/silicone-free products tend to build up for me overtime.

ADz5bNewEng: I have the shea moisture hydrate & repair protein power treatment. If I use it more than every other month, then my hair gets straw-like. Protein sensitive hair. Usually my hair likes high moisture. Same thing with the Mielle. Type 2C, fine, dense, high porosity hair. I'm also transitioning to gray which is an additional complication.

Jacqueline KenKnight: I found that shea moisture mask at all my local grocery stores last weekend and bought a new one. I don’t know that it is discontinued. ‍♀️

Nancy Heath: This is what I needed to know. Wavy hair care on a budget

almostelphaba: The Garnier Pure Clean Fortifying Conditioner is one of my new favorite budget conditioners!! It’s silicone free, $6.29 for 33oz at target. Super slippery! It reminds me of the old Tresemme Naturals, before they changed the formula. Highly recommend!!

Bethany Burke: I love the As I Am leave in conditioner but i use the blue one for scalp and dandruff. Its amazing... the shampoo is also great. BUT make sure you grab your leave in and not the shampoo when styling.... I've done that... wasn't the worst but definitely different.

Joy S.: I'm currently loving Aveeno's Rose Water & Chamomile Blend products. They smell great, and keep my hair shiny and soft. They do have glycerin and amodimethicone, but either I haven't noticed a problem or I'm too inexperienced to know. ‍♀️ I use the conditioner to cowash, and I think it works. I've been using them for about 3 out of the 4 months I've been going "natural."

Beckett198: I'm very glad you gave us CORRECT information on the Shea Moisture Protein Treatment, because India Batson is telling people on her channel that it is comparable to Olaplex 3 and Curlsmith Bond Repair Salve. And before anyone asks, no I'm not joking. I wish I were.

Tammy: Love love love Cantu products for my coarse swavy hair, especially the curl activator and the define and shine custard! If you have access to the dm drugstore I highly recommend the Balea Winter Protect Mask - it contains lots of Protein and is very nourishing and the winter protect leave in milk

ellie darr: girl you have the most informative videos i feel like i learn so much and i looove it

Swavy Blonde: Yay! Managed to fully diffuse my hair while watching your video ❤️ will give aussie another try

ann martin: I recently discovered Brad Mondo's "Xmondo" line of hair products. I absolutely love his Wavetech" foam-makes my curls defined and hold it in a stronger wave when going against wind, rain.. I like his Polychrome shampoo that has quinoa protein..seems to do alot for my fine-hair wave. As you said, let's help each other with products..That said, I don't follow the curly girl method....tried it and my hair didn't seem to respond well to it...

TashaDoesKeto: I love that you break down these ingredients. You help the average person understand this mumbo jumbo

Kim Kinsella: I would love your perspective on Trader Joe's Tea Tree line - from my scouring of the shampoo label, it doesn't appear to have any harsh ingredients, but it acts like a clarifying wash for me.

Cindy Witty: Having a beautiful wash day! Looking fabulous ~ I did like the Cantu conditioner- the only issue I had w/ it was that I did not use it soon enough & I stored it in the shower lid down & it soured. Yuckers! I ended up having to throw it out bc it smelled so bad ~

Cindy Burns: Old school idea, back when the ladies used to use lacquer hairspray for their big wet sets, stylist mixed 2 tbs of baking soda in warm water, and it removed everything. You then proceed with shampoo conditioner etc. ;-) Love your videos!

Ashlea Pelger: I highly suggest trying the Aussie Miracle Curls Creme Pudding! I also love the Aussie Sprunch Mousse and Leave-in Conditioner

Isabel Gelinas: Hi Courtney, I really love the Cake beauty curl cream and mousse, it’s fantastic. I would be so excited for you to try them plus they are drug store products and super affordable.

Christy Price: I use the Headstrong Volume mousse, love it when using it with the gel!

Jenn Leah: The protein silicone hybrid is a cross polymer, and you usually see it in vegan products because it's molecularly very similar to keratin yet is plant based instead of animal. The Eva NYC site explains this on their therapy mask (not CG due to Silicones like dimethicone & others).

Sunflower Baby: I've tried the As I Am leave in conditioner and I am not a fan. It is not slippery on my hair. Actually my hair feels more dried out. Still searching for a moisturizing leave in. Love the neutrogena clarifying shampoo. Very gentle. Your hair looks awesome parted on both sides.

9melissal: I love the Kristen Ess curl conditioner. It has so incredibly much slip, more so than I've ever felt from any other conditioner.

Shannon J.: I highly recommend the Shea Moisture Mafura Oil Deep Conditioner like you mentioned! It's very moisturizing and smells great. I actually prefer it over their Manuka Honey Yogurt Protein mask (but that mask is still really nice too).

Lauren: Such a helpful video Courtney! Thank you ❤️ love your personality!

Darlene M: One of my favorite affordable gels is from SallyBeauty. Its's the Biotera gel with the purple label and it is alcohol free. Give it a try.

Jordan Faith: Yes I’d love your updated thoughts on CGM! I’ve decided to start moving even further away from it as well

Mary Lewis: Yes please! Would love to hear your CGM info. BTW - LOVE your eyes and eyebrows.

Faith: Your hair is so shiny and voluminous in this video, looks beautiful as always!!

Shannon Shelton: Ok, I'm a 2b struggling to get my hair to clump, so I got the Cantu leave in conditioner and curl activator and WOW! That activator is no joke! Thanks for the vid and recommendations!

Heather: the easiest part of transitioning to my natural hair was the fact that I was already on a 1-2 times a week washing schedule. everything else has me feeling like I’m in Bird Box

Lauretta Hannel: I’d love to hear your updated perspective on cgm. I have been recently enjoying Pacifica’s Pineapple Curls shampoo.

Jenn Leah: I also don't typically like shea moisture products, BUT I really like their meadowfoamate and marshmallow extract silicone free primer & styler (something like that, it has a pink spray nozzle and a deep blue label). It's a leave in conditioner that DOESN'T have coconut oil like everything else they make and the Shea butter is like halfway down the ingredients list. So it's not heavy and has a ton of slip. I LOVE it as a quick "dry" refresh (meaning i mux it with some water in my hand then lightly glaze and scrunch). It's probably my number 1 refresh product

9melissal: The shea moisture mask had been reformulated and is no longer cgm friendly. However, I still see it for sale on target and ulta's website. It's on the shea moisture site but is out of stock.

Michelle Parker: I'm admittedly a bit of a Not Your Mother's stan, but I *love* the Curl Talk Shampoo for a low-poo, and the Naturals Green Tea and Tahitian Gardenia and Mango Butter conditioners on my 2B/C waves (and yes, definitely on the higher end of drugstore prices). Also cannot say enough good things about the Curl Talk mousse, and agree that it's a way higher hold than what they market it as! Also...don't sleep on the Garnier Treat masks, wow. Those pack a lot of punch for like $3!

Nikki Kim: Definitely want to hear why you stopped talking about the Curly Girl Method!! I'm so sad to learn they don't make the Protein Power Treatment anymore--it was enough protein to make my hair happy, but I could use it over and over without protein overload. I'm also allergic to wheat protein, so finding something without that is a little difficult. Have you ever tried the Aussie Miracle Curls mousse? It's a Walmart exclusive and let me tell you--my hair LOVES it. I'd love to see your opinion on it!

Rebecca Hanks: We need an updated drugstore wash day!

Sophia Blank: What are your thoughts on waxes e.g. beeswax? The shea moisture yoghurt and honey one you mentioned has had an ingredient change in the UK and now contains beeswax. Is it still worth trying? X

Michmash: My hair really likes Curl Power by SGX NYC as a lightweight leave-in/curl cream. I get it at Target, it’s about $7 and it smells great—like a high-end fragrance (but it fades away once my hair is dry.) Thank you for mentioning how products smell—especially of coconut—it can be a real deal breaker for me, and I’ve decluttered products simply because I can’t deal with their scent or it’s strength. (For instance, the Shea Moisture Honey Yogurt line—they work fine, but I wish they had half or a third as much fragrance—it’s not a bad scent, but it’s too potent for me!)

Crystal Rapose: Love As I Am leave in and NYM Curl Talk mousse. Both are a little more expensive but they last a long time and work so well for my 2b/c waves.

Michelle Bumbaugh: I've been using the Shea Moisture shampoo and conditioner and my hair has been responding to it really well! Maybe I'm just getting through transition (knock on wood) but I've been very happy with my results the past few weeks

Ollie the Bum: Yes please talk about the cgm, I use a lot of your tips but going full cgm is just not manageable (or necessary!) for a lot of wavies!

Lisa Nulton: I use As I Am clarifying shampoo. It's gentle and it works really well for hard water and product build up. At least for me.

Lit and Lore: I would love to hear your opinion on the newer light weight curl line from Maui Moisture. I have been using the shampoo and conditioner and I'm really on the fence.

SioLazer: Thanks for explaining isodecane! I feel like that's the ingredient in some Curlsmith products that make people say they aren't CGM.

Loraine Mcgillivray: Hi Courtney my two absolute favourites from affordable brands are: the giovanni hard hold gel and the shea moisture castor oil leave in. I have very thick, course textured, wavy/curly, highlighted and dry hair (even nearly two years into my natural texture journey). I have eczema on the scalp and very dry skin - so dry hair is my natural hair type and not a temporary condition. My hair loves oils/butters and as much moisture as I can get into it. The thick shea moisture leave in works really well for me (I also use masks every wash as conditioner). I do like the shea moisture masks, but also use the maui moisture masks frequently. The gel from giovanni (when emulsified with water to help it distribute) really holds my hair for most of the week between washes. It also doesn't irritate my scalp which many of the highly scented gels do. I use a fragrance free shampoo from Boots (expert line for sensitive scalp) and whichever conditioner/mask I feel like that week. I'm not really following the cgm, as I don't mind a little amodimethicone in my stylers. I stay away from the heavier silicones though and do a deep cleanse around every 4 - 6 weeks with a deep conditioner left on for at least half an hour that day. I tried going completely silicone free for a long time, but my hair gets very tangled and the small amount of silicone helps with that. Best wishes.

Melika Aziminia: I’ve also steered away from the CG method. The only thing that enhances my curls is Redken color extend shampoo

Kate Rose: There seem to be way more curly-friendly brands, at all price points, in the US than we have access to in the UK. I used to only be jealous of how cheap you get Cerave . Need a US trip with a spare suitcase...

Leigha Shreve: Omg, I am so happy I found your account! We have the exact same natural hair type (and color!! lol) I am excited to dive more into your videos because I have had trouble finding accounts with people who have my wave-y/curly hair type.

Jennifer Mason: I love the mint dc! It smells so good. I didn’t like the Shea Moisture DC because it didn’t feel moisturizing in my hair at all. It makes my hair feel dry.

Alicia Klein: I happened upon this at random (I've not watched your vids before) and just happened to need some new gel as I wasn't happy with my old one. I bought the Cantu conditioner and the Harry's gel and WOW. I'm impressed with the curls! First try with the Harry's I used way too much and it was like straw and I couldn't get the crunchy out. But second try I used much less and it was great! Thanks for the video!

Star 123: Courtney; I agree about mousse. It’s easy to get a weird, icky residue. Yes, NYM mousse has a harder hold than they advertise. BTW, please review the new NYM refreshing foam. I like foams

Dee Silver: These products saved me during my little beach getaway. I forgot to put my favorite things in my luggage LOL.

Aub_K: I’ve never done curly girl stuff before and I’m liking your videos. I’d like to try with drug store products because they are more affordable.

SashaDeter: That Shea Moisture Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil mask is actually so hydrating that it overhydrates my hair after only leaving it in for a few minutes in the shower. It’s a shame because it smells so amazing. I think the JBCO Strengthen & Restore mask might be closer to the “power protein treatment” mask but I still need to try that one.

TheMons26: Phyto clarifying!! It comes in a metal tube also, so huge plus.

Minna Ventola: Hello, Thank you so much for the video. Some of these products are available even are, in China. Shipped from overseas, but still. yay. I really enjoy your videos, and I also appreciate that you aren't using extra effects like sounds or anything, even no background music, which I find very confusing, distracting for me and making it difficult to follow with the actual content. You also use very clear language; explaining things clearly and directly and very well organised. I appreciate it very much.  One of my all time favourites as a leave in is the As I Am Leave In. I happened to buy it just randomly, but I am so happy I did. i would be interested to hear more about your thoughts about the cgm. I also love your hair, you curly wavy hair!

MLS: I never knew that regular conditioners are acidic. I have always left a pretty good slick in my hair so I never needed a leave-in. NOW that I know better, I will start using a leave-in, THANK YOU!

Chey Beauty: They still have the protein power treatment on Ulta and amazon, it's out of stock on ulta but it's on Amazon.

Liz Koziara: Hello! I really need advice. I’ve been trying to do the cgm-wavy haired version. I have 2b/2c waves very similar to her pattern. I have Courser hair and A LOT of it. I’ve been trying different methods using cream/gel/mousse I get really nice curls with gel and mousse while I’m diffusing/while it’s wet but for some reason after Im done diffusing (carefully) they immediately fall out and my hair gets frizzy. Nothing seems to stay clumped. Not enough product? Not drying long enough? I’m not sure why it’s not working after following her methods. Helppp

Finney Hamster: Bought the Suave Clarifying Shampoo because I missed this video and thought they had switched back to the old formula by now . Not sure what I’ll do, think I’ll just try the new formula. I’m about so officially start this so I am going to be removing the years of Pantene silicone on my hair. Besides this I bought all Jesicurl products and I’ll be using the Jesicurl Deep Conditioner

MJ Kawai: I'm a fine hair, low density wavy. My hair is on the oily side (wash every 2 days). As an example, the As I Am co-wash is too heavy for me, it leaves my hair oily. Would Cantu curl cream be too heavy for me as well? Any wavy with similar characteristics, please? Thank you.

Catherine Flores: Thank goodness - NON Curl Smith content!!

Leslie’s Mature Makeup & Beauty: Yes I love the Aussie products they do play well with others. Love your eye makeup today❤️. Would love to know what eye palette you used. Thanks for the drugstore options as I’m trying to trim the hair product budget a little.

Marie Sikkink: Another reason to not leave rinse-out conditioners on your hair is that many of them (especially the budget friendly ones) contain preservatives that are only approved to be in rinse-out formulas due to the likelihood of causing scalp irritation.

Denise M: Another drugstore product with protein is the Hask Keratin Smoothing shampoo and conditioner. Their deep conditioner in the packet is wonderful, too. Contains glycerin, if your hair doesn't like that, but CG approved and full of other goodies. Also available at Target and Ulta.

SashaDeter: I’m surprised you didn’t mention Giovanni or the Curls Blueberry Bliss leave-in!

thecraftymoo: I loved the neutrogena shampoo until I found out it has DMDM Hydantoin do you have any other shampoos you would recommend?

Samantha Cromer: I would love to hear more about your full thoughts on the curly girl method.

Debbie Forseth: I would love to know why you don’t mention the CGM. I don’t adhere to it either. Thank you for all your information. I drove from the Amarillo area to get a haircut at Texas Roots Salon and Spa with Cassey and I loved her, the salon and service.

DaniArt: I love these videos because I use drugstore items. And oh my yes my hair falls in my face every wash day. And it annoys me!
