Hello, this is Sarah or waterlily, seven, one. Six and today I want to talk about curly hair care, specifically about curly hair care when you're changing from the summer months to the winter months, or vice versa, because I know over in the u.s. we are starting to change um seasons in some areas, not in My area, it's kind of wavering back and forth and over in the other hemisphere, people are changing from winter into summer. Now I think um. So yes - and I think a couple people have requested this and it's a great video idea. So thank you and yeah. It'S just a really good video idea, because I think there's a lot of good information to know and I'm gon na principally talk about dew points with this cuz. I think that's the most important thing, because yes, temperature is an appointment, is important, but humidity is more important and it's the most important factor that changes over this seasons. I think have a couple notes and I have um. I do a little bit of research about this because I know the background information, but I usually have to refresh myself because it's kind of science II and I'm not really a science II person. So I did my little research. I don't have some good articles to check out in the description below, but let's go ahead and get started if we're talking about the summertime, which i think is where I'm currently in then you're going to have higher humidity and what's the best measure of humidity. If you're going to look at your weather report is actually the dew point which you want to check, the dew point is the temperature at which water will condense and form Dew, and it's just a really stable measure that will reflect how much water is in the Air, so just remember to check the dew point: it's always on the weather reports. You might have to scroll down a little bit to find it and I'm gon na find out what the current dew point is. You can go to wonder ground calm, which is the best weather website go to current data and - and the dew point is at 65 today. Anything from 60 degrees, Fahrenheit or 60 degrees Celsius and up is really human, so you're gon na get big hair with this, and you probably want something to help control your hair. So you might want a hard cold product and you may skip your leavin if you feel like you need even more home, but I personally wear a leave-in year-round in my hair, a leave-in conditioner and something important to talk about, and I think someone phrase the you Winter versus summer, hair care question in this way is called our College humectants um and you might humectant our ingredients like honey, glycerin and panthenol and hair products, and they are very important when the temperatures are changing. I know a lot of gels. The very first ingredient will be the glycerin, and if this and this can vary based on the dew point - but sometimes you may not want to use them - and sometimes you may want to use them, but not everyone is glycerin sensitive. So for some people this isn't as big of a problem: mm-hmm um but anyways, those humectants those products, but the ingredients are kind of iffy in this range um. So that's like the heat of summer and stuff and if you're in North Carolina, it's it's still not human outside and then, if we're between 40 to the six degrees, fahrenheit dew point we're so I'll talk about dew point, not temperature or four to 16 degrees Celsius Centigrade, this is great curl range. This is the best and you're gon na hopefully get your best curls at this time you can use humectants and you just need to keep your hair pretty moisturised. This is usually the easiest dewpoint to operate in then. If we go to the 30 to 40 degrees, Fahrenheit or negative 1 to 4 degrees Celsius, this is kind of the strange in between humidity weather range um. I think of this as like fall are most likely spring when the seasons are changing and you don't really know what's up. So this is another. If the area some people like to use summit, you might notice some people do not its trial. They'Re, who view in the next range is we're getting into winter here, care um and you have the dew point at fifteen or thirty degrees, Fahrenheit or negative. Ninety negative 1 degrees Celsius, and here the humectants are bad, and this is a definite humidity range. Where you don't want to use a lot of chemicals, love, glycerine, panthenol or honey, you do, however, one use emollients, which are moisturizers. Ok, so I thought I would explain what emollients aren't and they are moisturizing ingredients and products and they stop and hair and give it shine, and these are like vegetable oils and butters and those sorts of things as humectants, on the other hand, preps or water and Whole moisture into the hair, but that's gon na, have a bad effect in the low temperatures because, as I may understand, it, um traps the moisture in your hair, but the air is really dry. So the two things try to balance um and you just end up with frizzy hair a lot of the time so yeah in the winter. You generally want to not use a few methods but use a lot of emollients use. A lot of moisture. I tend to up my level of the amount of leave-in conditioner that I'm using, and I can also start to use less hold gels it I pretty much finished talking about dewpoints. I will put a little summary of the Duplin because I know it's kind of confusing in the description, but now I'm just gon na talk about some of my favorite products for the different seasons, um and specifically winter. I also have a video on specific issues. First, on my haircare, like chlorine, salt and the Sun, and I would go ahead and I will hopefully link that and you guys can check it out but anyways right now, since it's very um dewy outside I'm using my trusty le, looks sport gel, which is a Hard hold gel in the summer and the humid times I use this year-round, but I usually this is curly hair solutions, golf keeper - I usually use a lot of this when it's humid outside this is a leavin that I tend to use year-round. I do switch up my leave-in sometime. This is the infamous kinky curly knot today, um, but I use less in the summer and more in the winter. For me, I can often get away with using the same products between the summer in the winter. It depends on the person but yeah. I can usually get away with that, but I change the amounts and I can get away with a little bit less gel in the winter or I might use a softer one job. Some examples of gels that were working really well for me and low dew points, but don't work for me at this point in time are the Sonia fructose pure clean gel and the b5 design gel, because we're working amazingly amazingly for me - and I turned to use This in the summer - and then I just had a really really frizzy hair, what's important is whether the ingredient is at the top of the list cuz. If it's at the top of the list, i'll probably bother your hair more. This has glycerin in it, but it's towards the bottom of bullets. This one has glycerin right up towards the top of the list should probably I think I started using in the spring, so it was working on that in between range, didn't have quite enough hold for the summer, but it was working well on the in between rain And this one also has a humectant in it, so I was also using this in the spring. I think so. The in-between arrangement, you Neptunes for some people and dope brothers, it's Wendy's for probably working um. I don't tend to have to a certain sensitive hair, though so sometimes I think I get away with using products that have a lot of few muffins and then in the winter um yeah. This is kind of like the established doctrine about hair care throughout the season. I'Ve also heard that you use thicker products, maybe creamier products on the winter versus thinner products in the summer. It'S up to you, um and generally people talked about using creamy, moisturizers and needing to moisturize a lot in the winter, which is true because the air is dry stars that are here is almost it and fighting it. A lot of heating, artificial heating thrown out of here we're blow-drying your hair more so we don't have to go outside and like have wet hair. So people talk about needing to decondition. I think you should deep conditioned year-round as well um and one of my favorite brands that makes deep conditioners are the curled NT ones. This is Carl junkie, deep fish. My personal favorite is the curl rehab one, but this one is good too and yeah. I will use this throughout the summer or the winter I'd say. I probably need to definition a little bit more in the winter, but it turns out I'm doing in the summer, because in the summer there are things that can dry out your hair too, like salt from the ocean and chlorine and the Sun. So you might need to definition in the summer as well, but yeah. The only thing to be careful about in the winter is to make sure that you don't over moisturize over condition your hair, because if your hair is very light and not porous so it doesn't suck up stuff, then you can easily over dish in your hair. It'S easily gotten rid of with just a quick um sulfate free, shampoo um, but you can put too much moisture in your hair than your hair. It kind of goes blah. I want to make a different video about that, but that's the thing that you can do if you're like deep conditioning every week and then you tear, starts to be really weird. That could be it. Conditioner is pretty much my favorite year-round. Conditioner is the generic value products matrix biologic auditioning balm conditioner are the ah bi organics honeysuckle rose. That'S a really good moisturizing one too um those maybe too much moisture for some people but check out. I just recently updated my favorite conditioners videos, so you guys can go check that out. I hope this video is clear. If you have any questions, please feel free to leave them below in the comments and I'll leave the resources below for you guys to check out and read on your own, because you can really discover a lot. I'M just amending that there are some really good explanations and yeah. I think that is it. Basically, everyone be more cut and dry. When you have low dew points, but just watch we're heading into moisture a lot, you can use light hold products you want to avoid the humectants use. Lots of emollients in between range is kind of toss up. Everyone kind of does different things. You can trying to get away with humectants and um. You can just probably start using hard hold products. I don't know um in the high humidity range, which is what we're coming out of in the summer. You'Re gon na use hard hold products and you can use those humectants, but you can also use millions because you need to keep your hair moisturize at all times of the year. So for me, change is. I might change up a couple products, especially if my hair isn't liking the ones I'm using with the current, but it's more about amounts for me. If that makes sense, I tend to use a lot of the same products. Um yeah. I hope this is helpful for you guys and um yeah, thanks for watching everyone. Bye,

Elizziebooks: I've over-conditioned before and it's one of those experiences that once you've done it, you'll never do it again! Ah! I've been thinking about seasonal transitions a lot lately. Thanks for the info!

: another super helpful video! i literally asked on twitter before what are some good CG approved products for moisturizing and winter hair!! it's colder now in NY & i live with a heater in my face (bad for hair & skin but feels soo good) so I want to treat my hair good. Will have to rewatch this to really nail down that dew point, humectant, emolliant thing =) Also- I'd love to see a over-moisturized hair video from u, that would be super beneficial! thanks!!

ChicaRizada94: I looove the CJ Curl Rehab! I won a jar in a giveaway after I saw your review, but I wasn't sure how it'd work on my hair. It has the most unbelievable slip ever! & I love only having to use such a tiny bit on my hair (I've used it 6 times & still have more than half the jar left).

SophiPer: Our humidity is finally starting to leave. It's delightful to see de puffed curls and use lighter products. Thanks for the extra research:)

Tina J: I'm in NC too, and yes, it's been crazy humid. Thank you for all of your research and "science-y" facts. :)

shibbydoo322: I can't get over how good your hair looks with this cut...anyway, my hair is ridiculously dry and frizzy. I'm naturally blonde and this summer I discovered sun in which produced a beautiful very light blonde color but wrecked my hair. I use gel and leave in and I deep condition at least once a week sometimes more like 3 times a week, and my conditioner is the Matrix Biolage knockoff. But my hair is still dry and frizzy even with argan oil and gel and conditioner! Any tips?

Waterlily716: Great question. :) Basically because the dew point is a better, more reliable measure of how much water is in the air, and how our hair will react. Humidity measures the amount of water in the air relatively, so 100% humidity in one place wont be the same in another, and it doesn't take temperature into consideration (which dew point does).

Waterlily716: The aubrey organics, curl jukie deep treatments, and sally's knock off of the biolage conditioner are all great moisturizers. HTH diane :)

: thanks sarah! i just got a 2oz of the aubrey organics gpb balancing conditioner in one of my curl subscriptions (i think it was curlkit. i get mixed up LOL) now i'm extra excited to use!! =D

lurvelieplum: @waterlily716 Hi! One question: how does moisturized hair feel? My friend said your hair should literally feel a bit moist, like a film is on the hair. Another friend says the hair should feel dry ( ie not wet or damp) and soft. Any help? Thanks.

: thank u! i'm gonna have to check it out. thanks for cg feedback!! i haven't done sulfates in well over a year but i really need to let go of silicones for good. i love hearing positive feedback from it! =)

: oh thanks for letting me know!! ill be passing on them now. i swear i think i will be carrying around a silicone list soon =)

Maisa1974: Thanks again for great videos :) BTW Curl keeper has glycerin in it! quick question please. do u still use the herbal essences set me up gel? my hair frizzes so fast & i'm trying 2 moisturize it as possible and stay away from humectants ingredients as it is a big problem i have with frizz. I am trying to learn more about how to protect my hair from frizzing so i wonder if u have any advice for me? I am looking into natural anti-humectants such as EVOO in a spray to seal my hair but it got oily

Waterlily716: yes, generally you've got it. :) there's a list of how the dew points work with ingredients in the description.

Lisa Connor-Wacky: Thanks. It being it's own thing my explain the conflicting info I've seen about it. Yet more reason to experiment. Although I tend to use gel to tame flyaways in buns rather than to shape my waves.

Jorgelina: I don't know what it is about dew point but I never get the hang of it! Here in Buenos Aires is humid all year round and my hair is pretty big and has low porosity, so I'm always going for hard-hold gels, otherwise I lose definition pretty fast except for my ends that stay super clumped and smooth. *shrugs*

Maisa1974: Hey Sara :) I really need some spritz for my hair to lock moisture as well as limiting frizz that is CG friendly and not sure what to buy or do! I have tried the DevaCurl Set It Free but left my hair v dry! what do u recommend? your comments and videos are great help for me as there is lack of reviews from 3b curly girls...

MsKingJamison: girl, your curls are popping!! so pretty!!

Waterlily716: a strong hold gel like La looks sport, and either curly hair solutions curl keeper (available only online) or drugstore KY personal lubricant to seal out frizz. You'll also want to use a leave in underneath.

Waterlily716: When wet moisturized hair feels like seaweed. When dry, it should be soft, although that depends on the hair type. It really depends on the person.

Elizabeth Dotson: I am soon going to florida for vacation : ) I have natural curly hair I currently live in Oregon were we really don't have much humidity what do you suggest to combat the humidity?

: thank u! it def did!! i went on sallys site to see..am going to get to a store hopefully this weekend. oh i LOVE how inexpensive it is!!!! <3

Maisa1974: wet or dry..whatever u recommend i would give it a try as so far whatever ur using is working for me.thanks so much for replying :)

m.: it is cg approved, i'm also on the cg method nd it's AMAZING NO Silicones at all many yummy ingredients that are good for your hair(:

Maisa1974: I bought the HESMU from amazon 2 weeks ago so not sure if its the old one or the new one! what ingredients they have in the new one that u dont like? will give LA look a try for sure.my leave in is the KCKTand i do deep treatment with Curl rehab it leave my hair so smooth and happy! but I tend lately to use less amount of KCKT as the CR is v moisturizing! i am just trying to find the right balance for limiting the frizz. I noticed the HESMU not good 4 2nd day as the curls get a bit loose :S

Nicole Segal: Your hair looks so good!

Waterlily716: They recently reformulated the HESMU at least here in the US. I would try LA looks it is great. Are you using a leave in conditioner?

Lisa Connor-Wacky: Do you know if aloe vera gel is considered a humectant for hair care purposes? Hopefully using dew pont as opposed to percentage if humidity will help me get a grasp of my hair.

Maisa1974: quick one :) what clarifying shampoo that u would recommend to clear up builds up every once and awhile as my hair has low porosity that says it gets build up easy? I am going CG method in depth with the considerations of my low porosity hair etc as in lifting up hair cuticle by using castile soap every now and then and every time i finish washing hair with v warm water and use heat for DT...I am not sure if i should use shampoo 4 builds up or not so forgive me if my Q is not CG friendly ;)

P. Scott: LOL well at least I was right about one language! Did you try redoing the flexirod set yet (on damp/wet hair)? If so, how did it go?

: oh thank u! i will have to check that out. do u know if its CG approved? i'm trying to get myself off silicones

Waterlily716: Have you tried doing some protein treatments? They can help with the sun damage somewhat.

lurvelieplum: The beautiful textures line has a silicone in it: dimethicone

Global African: Your hair looks beautiful.

Waterlily716: I recently lost my cap. :( Usually yes if I'm trying to preserve the curls. I'm buying a new cap soon.

Waterlily716: I think I tried that a long time ago. I end up with super curly hair usually.

The Divine Hostess: Great information!

Argy Silvia: How do you calculate dew points? See I am from greece and I don't think we have dew points or they have another name...

OhSoLovely Sam: Could you do a review on Dove products?

Waterlily716: Have you noticed that you get build up easily? If you don't notice build up you might not need a shampoo every once in awhile. And are you asking about a sulfate poo or a non-sulfate one. (I only use sulfate free ones.) I like the shea moisture ones (less lather) or the organix ones (more lather) from the drugstore.

Waterlily716: Aloe vera is it's own sort of thing. I don't think it's a humectant :)

Waterlily716: I'm not sure. When I looked of examples of emollients they were all natural oils and butters (which in my experience are made of oils): jojoba, olive, etc. But it appears that natural oils are also considered to be sealants? Feel free to clue me in.

m.: beautiful textures line at sallys beauty supply its very moisturizing and smells good

Maisa1974: my hair type is 3b :) I am using anything u use and i am 100% satisfied :) Many many thanks xx its just that damn FRIZZ that is killing me! should i use LA look Gel and try? i am in London but still my hair frizzes like Monica friends I tell ya! rain humid name it...HELP :(

Waterlily716: I'm not a huge fan of spritzes honestly, but I use other products for those purposes. Are you looking for a product to use on wet or dry hair?

Mikelyn Anderson: Thanks so much for your videos! Ur my fave utuber!

Maisa1974: Thank you so much xxx

smithdb08: NC weather makes it hard to use humectants, there is only a small portion of the year that I can actually use humectants, usually its either too humid (high dew point) or too dry (low dew point)...or at least that's how my hair reacts.

Honest Emily: I no u don't personally have straight/wavy hair but I do and I was wondering if u could do a video like this but for straight/wavy hair with plain research. You research a lot about curly so you must no some about non-curly hair. Would be lovely if you could do that! Great video x

Waterlily716: Yup@ I used that a long time ago. It's CG :)

m.: (: i have the deep condish in my hair now and my hair so soft and i can run my inges through my hair nd my hair is VERY kinky nd curly

Waterlily716: lol I agree very much. :) My hair doesn't seem to be too sensitive, but that's a good description of NC.

Waterlily716: I mean you pretty much apply the same principles. All the same stuff about dew point levels will apply for wavy hair. I unfortunately don't have wavy or straight hair though so I feel like I don't have a strong stand point to talk about those hair types- esp wavy hair

rue23ko: Chloride, Tetrasodium EDTA, Panthenol, Linalool, Hexylcinnamal, Gelatin/Keratin Amino Acids/Lysine Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Limonene, Butylphenyl, Butylphenyl Methypropional, Geraniol, Hydroxycitronellal, Citronellol, Ext Violet 2 Thank you very much if you answer !

Waterlily716: Thank does. Thanks :)

Waterlily716: Agreed, lots of the beautiful textures products are not CG and have cones...

elizabethdalloway: You speak Spanish! Woooooooooooow! I love that! Now I could ask you questions in Spanish? 'Cause that's my language actually ;D

Waterlily716: They didn't put bad stuff in. They just took out the good stuff in the new HESMU. :(

rue23ko: Hi can you teld me if this product is ok to use ? Its called Tresemme TRES Gel Clean Hold, There are some ingredients that I can't find: water, VP/Dimethylaminoethylmethacrylate Copolymer, PPG 5 Ceteth 20, Triispropanolamine, Oleth 20, Carbomer, PVP, DMDM Hydantoin, Sorbitol, Propylene Glycol, Fragrance, PEG 12 Dimethicone, Olealkonium ,

Maisa1974: u know ur name in Arabic means someone who bring happiness ;)

Argy Silvia: So I may got it wrong but the higher the dew points the higher the need to use humectants and the lower the dew points humectants are bad??

Guera Cabrera: wish you would come back to you tube. you are the reason i started cg

m.: its very inexpensive too. hth <3

reggie: Why not use humidity rather than dew point?

Waterlily716: No I didn't. Thank you :)

Waterlily716: ty! :)

Waterlily716: No it's just henna. :) It says my name in Arabic

shirleyandhisdog: Over here in Washington the rain has finally come.. And my hair is a giant poof ball now -_- yayyy rain..

Waterlily716: Claro. :)

Argy Silvia: Oh nevermind!! I found a site that has dew points

Waterlily716: :)

P. Scott: Oh cool. Do you speak Arabic and/or is your family from an Arabic speaking country? For some reason I thought you spoke spanish. I think it's because I remember you suggesting a youtube channel with spanish only videos lol.

Waterlily716: No I am just taking arabic in school to pick up another language :) I also speak Spanish.

Waterlily716: lol ty! :)

P. Scott: Do you have a tat on your wrist? If so, what does it say (it looks like words from my POV)?

Waterlily716: Not a huge fan sorry.
