Shampoo Ginger A Very Useful Plant

http://buyraretropicalplants.com/ This video is about the red pine cone ginger Zingiber zerumbet

Hello and welcome to Randy's tropical plants. I want to show you a pretty cool ginger today. This is Zinjibar is a rum bit. This is the shampoo ginger or the pinecone ginger, now you'll notice that these pine cones are flopped down like this. These are done blooming when they're younger, they stand upright and they grow a little cream, colored blossoms out from between these brats and then later on. They flop down, there's a good reason for why they flop down. If you can see up close, it's good to see that liquid, that comes out it's a soapy slippery liquid and it smells very strongly of ginger and you can wash your hair with it and that's why this is called Shampoo ginger now later on in the season And this one's starting to do it you'll see they turn this real, pretty red car and that'll eventually turn completely red, like fire engine red all the way all the way across this one's got the same, seen: juice inside and it's real. It'S got a slick like like a mixture of water and shampoo feel to it and it smells wonderful. This ginger is sometimes used as an edible ginger if the rhizomes can use just like you'd use, regular ginger, it's a beautiful, beautiful plant, it's a very Hardy plant. You plant it in the ground here in Florida. It'S it's one of those easy ones you plant it in the ground and it just kind of gets real, big and, and you don't have to do a whole lot to it. But this is a shade. Loving plant. Doesn'T do well and in full Sun. It can take some bright but partial partial Sun, but I I grow it in full shade and it does great and when I got it in pops, I just used regular potting soil I'll, keep it evenly. Moist, like I said before you plant it in the ground. I just sort of forget about it. I'Ll put it in a corner someplace and leave it alone, but it's a very rewarding ginger. It'S an easy ginger. It does go completely dormant. Every year, it'll die back to the rhizomes starting in another month or two and then come back in the spring. So this is another good one for you, northern gardeners. You can dig this up and winter it indoors or you can grow it in a pot and just move the pot indoors, once the foliage dies back and a real fun, ginger really really rewarding ginger, and I have these available in my nursery right now. So this has been ginger bird's rumba, the shampoo ginger or red pinecone ginger Randi's tropical plants so be sure to visit my website at Randy's tropical plants dot-com, and thank you for watching.

38kimpossible: Wow very interesting. I live in Florida and have this growing on my fence line.. They were here when we bought the place. How do you make shampoo with it? And do the tidiness taste like the ginger you buy in the store?

38kimpossible: Yes the tidiness was suppose to say rhizomes.. I went out today and squeezed out some " shampoo" I haven't used it yet but it does smell nice.

Holly Hawk Sews: I realize this is an old video but I have a question that I just cannot find the answer to anywhere! How do you keep the liquid for longevity? Freeze it? Does it freeze well? My grandmother has maybe 100 of the cones on her property and I would love to harvest the liquid in quantity before they die back, but I don't really want to spend hours squeezing and jarring them if I can't save it. Has anyone tried saving it? Or turning it into bar soap maybe? Something shelf stable?

Petals on the Paving Slabs: Very useful plant, cheers for the video.

Aniyah Diloveli Lioness: Does anyone know what else it's good for? What about the leaves?
