So one of my most requested videos is how i style my hair wavy like this. So today, i'm going to show you before self quarantine. I was wearing my hair, pretty much always like straight and styled and blow dried, and i was even sometimes getting keratin treatments to really get it smooth and then, when we went into self quarantine, i was like you know what i kind of want to wear. My hair more natural - and i don't know - maybe this will become like my self quarantine look, and so when people start to see that this was my natural hair texture, they started asking how i style it, and i didn't really have an answer back then, because i Was really just testing stuff out? I have really really thick wavy hair and it can be very dry, like you know, if you pull one of my hairs out, it's like my mom, always says i have like horse hair and it's kind of funny. It'S not it's. Like really thick hair that i have it's not just thick, because i have a lot of it, it's thick coarse, hair as well. So when people start asking for tips on how i style my hair and the products i was using and stuff in the beginning, i kind of didn't have an answer, because i was still trying to figure it out. But now i feel like i really have it down all right. So, first off your curly, wavy hair routine, really starts when you wash your hair. What you use to wash your hair is so super important because you don't want to dry out your scalp and your strands and everything you want to make sure that you've got a lot of moisture in your hair, and this is something honestly, i've always understood. But i didn't really really understand this. Until i put out a post on instagram saying that my niece alyssa, she is trying to wear her hair, more natural, her natural curls, and i asked for advice and all of my black followers came through with so much amazing information which i'm probably going to share. In a whole different video with my niece alyssa, you know there are a few things that i learned from you know. The tips that i was getting and one of those tips that i i picked up, was that what you're, using in the shower to wash your hair, really matters. You want as much moisture as possible. I was talking to my business partner ben and he was like. Oh, my gosh, you have to try this brand bread that he actually just started working with this brand bread is made for all curly hair. This says that it's for types 3a, like curls 3a to 4c, but i think that this is just amazing for anyone who has thick textured hair, so i have obviously just wavy hair. My hair, isn't you know curly, it's not. It doesn't get like the coils or anything like that, but it has that waviness to it, and whenever you have that texture, your hair tends to get dry really easily. A couple of things i appreciate about this brand is this cool packaging? You get every last drop out of this packaging because you can just squeeze it all out, but i also appreciate that the hair mask the conditioner is larger than the actual shampoo, because i'm always one of those people that, like my shampoo, is always like. Halfway done and since they're sad because i like go through my conditioner so much faster, so that's something i really appreciate. I also appreciate the texture of the hair cleanser. It feels almost like a cream that you put into your hair, but you know i like focus it on my scalp area and it's just it's nice and like moisturizing, but at the same time it feels like it actually cleanses away all of the oil. That'S on my hair and my scalp and for me that's really important, because you guys know i don't wash my hair every single day. I wash it like every three or four days and i feel like this is still cleansing my scalp the way i need it to, but it's not leaving it feeling like dry or anything like that. So i've really felt like the condition of my scalp has gotten. So much better by using this, it has really nice conditioners in it. There is argan oil in here. There is aloe vera in here. It'S just really really nice and it feels very rich, almost like you're, like a rich cream on your scalp, and then it just turns into a really nice light lather. So i only focus this on my scalp area and then i let the water like kind of rinse through my hair and whatever rinses through pretty much cleanses the rest of my hair, and then i go in with this. You really need a hair mask and to not be precious with it, like you have to put so much more than you think in your hair. Again, i don't have really thick coils in my hair, but what i learned was that i was just not using enough of my conditioner. I just put like a little bit of conditioner on the ends of my hair. Once i start to really go for it and put like a lot - and you know just like let it sit in my hair like it's a mask or something then i start to realize like oh, this is what my hair wanted. It wanted a lot more moisture. So i put a lot of this. I let it sit in my hair for about five to ten minutes, and then i rinse it out and it rinses off really nicely too, even though it's nice and thick and rich all of this rinses out really nicely. This has cockadoo plum in it and starflower oil, and it it just smells so beautiful. Also one thing that i was realizing as i was wearing my hair natural more is that i was getting a lot of tangled hair, especially in this area. So i got a comb like this and in the shower i just kind of like take all like the tangles out of my hair, really gently, so i'm not really pulling on it too hard, because i'm also going through like the postpartum hair loss, i'm going through, Like round two of that which happens round, two is a thing. So when i have the conditioner in my hair, it really just glides through very easily, and i use something like this a product. I always do keep in my shower as well that i only use like once a month or so is nizoral, which is for like dandruff and everything it's an anti-fungal or your scalp. I really love having nizoral, because it's the only one that really has helped with any of like the flakiness i get. I have scalp psoriasis, which can be really irritating. It can look like i've, got lots of flakes and stuff and it can become really itchy. So i like to use it once a month or so right before i'm going to like color. My hair, especially, is when i don't know why. That'S when i decide i'm going to use it and i just feel like it really helps my scalp stay, really nice and clean okay. So, right after i am out of the shower, i quickly put on a microfiber towel. This one is from aqua's. I have talked about my aquas towels for a very long time. I love them. I'Ve had it on much longer than i want to have it on, so my hair is going to probably be a little frizzier than usual, but it's because now i'm talking to you guys, but one of the tips is to not let your hair be in a Towel for too long like you almost want to go from like the shower to having like wet hair and putting all your product into it. So usually, what i do is i get out of the shower. Put this towel on and just get like the excess water out of my hair, and then i actually take it out right away. If i know i'm gon na wear my hair, curly or wavy, and what i'll do is i'll. Take a styling cream like this one from shea moisture. This came highly highly recommended from my instagram followers. This is the coconut hibiscus curl enhancing smoothie, it's really nice and rich. This is actually something that i bought for my niece and it smells really nice too. So the way that you're supposed to use it, so you take your hair out of the towel. My hair is actually a lot more dry than i want it to be, but what i do is i kind of put it where i like part it where i want it to go, which is where it's going pretty naturally already and then again. This is where i learned to not be too precious with my hair product, so i take the cream and you can see it's like. I don't know how to explain it. It feels like moisturizer for your hair and i just really focus it on sections of my hair. You can also section your hair out, but because my hair is wavy again, i'm not that concerned with getting it too perfect. I don't want it to look like it's perfect, so i put a lot into my hair and i make sure that it just looks like it's really really moisturized say i'm going in with a lot more okay. So you can see. I have a lot of the product in my hair and the waves are really starting to kind of like perk up a lot more, because i've got wavy hair and it can be a little bit funky in some places like some places. It just wants to be straight, so i go in with this as well. It'S by amica. This is their curl core enhancing gel. I don't use a lot of this. I use it for a little bit of hold, so i'll put some in my hand and then i'll go back through one more time. The more you touch your hair to scrunch it, the more frizzy it's going to get. So just keep that in mind, because you don't want to be touching it too much, especially as it's like drying. That'S when you're really gon na get that frizziness in your hair, but i like to have a little bit of hold. So i put a little bit kind of underneath too, because that's where i feel like my hair starts to look really dry and then i make sure that it. I have like the right style that i want going. So i like to have like kind of a deep part, so i have way more hair on this side than i do on the other side. So i have all of my hair products in and then i'm not done. I'M gon na go in with a blow dryer really quickly. A product i want to shout out is this: by joyco: it is their zero heat for thick hair. It'S an air dry, styling cream. I just started using this so on days, where i'm not gon na use a blow dryer. I like to use that because it's nice and creamy and it really does kind of like hold everything in place like if it's on the weekend and i'm just going to be like hanging out at home with my kids and stuff. I won't use a blow dryer, but if i want to get a lot of volume in my hair, then using the blow dryer is really important to me. This is my dyson hair dryer. I bought this last year and it took me a long time to purchase one of these because i was like it's there's no way it's worth the price tag, but i love this hair dryer, it's very powerful. It'S very light. I love that it has a diffuser and i use it a lot with my wavy hair. The thing to know when you turn this on. There are levels of strength, there's the the heat level and then there is the power and when you're going to wear your hair wavy, so you can see like it's starting to dry, not too wavy. When you're going to wear your hair wavy, you don't want to have it too strong, you don't want strong heat. You don't want strong air, because strong super strong air will just break up your curls or your waves and make it look frizzier, but then also too much heat will kind of like fry it all that work that you just put into it with your products. It almost just like kills that and and makes your hair look like it's frizzy and dry, and there's like this point where it can make your waves look better and actually enhance your waves, which is what i'm going to use it to do right now, and then It can go like too hot and actually like make your your waves, look like they're fried or something like that, not that this fries, your hair, but it can just have that kind of a look with the product in it. So you want to be really careful about the settings that you use and also you have to use a diffuser if you're going to wear your hair, wavy or curly. Because again you don't want to have just like that. Strong air blasting at your hair and then make it frizzy, so i'm going to turn it on and i'm gon na go the lowest setting. Then i take sections and i hold it here. That'S what i do. I hold it just like this. I don't move it. I let it sit for a little while and you can see i'm kind of like placing the hair into the diffuser, i'm not like just holding the diffuser there, i'm placing it in see how it's like really enhancing the wave as it's drying it and that's partially, Because i have that amica hair gel, so it's almost like bringing out more wave because it's it's like holding it in place, it's the heat is kind of making the bounce. It'S like, creating that wave a little bit more than what i actually have. I guess and enhancing it and say it's getting bigger as i dry it and it's still really really wet. So the other thing i wanted to point out is you don't want to put too much of that gel because you don't want to have crispy hair, or at least i don't want to have crispy hair. So i'm just going to kind of go around until my hair is completely dry and then we'll talk at the end. So you can see. This is what my hair looks like right. Now it's still a little wet, but i got it to the point where i want it to be. You know partially, if i don't use a hair dryer, my hair can actually stay damp in the roots area the entire day, because it's so thick, so i got it to a point where i want it to be, and now i'm going to let it air dry, While i do like my makeup and stuff and the rest of my like skincare routine and then i come back usually and i'll, just kind of like judge it just a little bit again, you don't want to touch your hair too much, but you can see. This is kind of where my hair ends up and it'll only look better as it it dries completely. I just wanted to show you guys. This is what it ends up. Looking like and you can see like, i said it's a little frizzier than usual just because i had let it dry too much, and i was probably touching it just a little bit too much as well. While i was talking and showing you, but this is what it looks like when it's dry, it's a little damp still back here, but you know it's. It'S definitely going to dry and be a little bit bigger, and i like that. I like the big hair and the volume and everything, but this is what i end up with pretty straightforward, pretty simple and then tomorrow and the next day i probably won't wash my hair. What i'll do is i'll just take a little bit more of the cream. I might even wet my hair a little bit and then put a little bit more cream into it and just scrunch it a little bit again, the more you touch your hair, the frizzier it gets. So the cream helps to really just smooth it back down and i feel like wetting it a little bit gives it kind of like that wave memory and that curl memory, but this is it. This is how i wear my hair. I hope this video was helpful. I hope that if you have wavy hair you'll embrace it a little bit, it's been nice, it's been kind of like liberating to not have to. You know, spend all this time just straightening my hair and smoothing my hair and drying it out and then going to the salon and having to color my hair constantly. So it doesn't look brassy and there's just this whole cycle that goes on so i've loved. Having my hair more wavy and i'm glad that you guys like it, i'm glad you guys, like it wavy, because i like wearing my natural wavy hair, it's been nice to embrace it. If you guys have any questions feel free to ask below in the comments you can find me on instagram, i'm at susanura and i'm still taking tips. If you have more tips, you want to give me or products that you think i should try. Definitely let me know because i'm always listening i'll talk to you guys soon. Bye,

Susan Yara: Hi Everyone! I’ve learned a lot about my hair this year and feel like it’s getting easier to care for it. Thank you for all the advice I received so far! Also a note, my hair was still damp when I filmed this! It has more volume and bounce when it’s fully dry!

Naomi: As an Asian girl with natural wavy/curly hair, I've been dying for this kind of video! It's so hard to find other asian women on YT with hair like mine. Thanks for this!

quantumwombat: Yesss!!! I love content that promotes natural hair of any and all textures! I also starting wearing my hair wavy during the pandemic!

sandy5791: As someone with wavy hair, this video is so validating! I use a ton of conditioner and have had to wash on a daily basis since I'm in healthcare. I need to try your tips! Definitely bookmarking to rewatch. (Also I'm part Chinese and so appreciate you being on YT! My mom has black course straight hair and I got the color but my dad's wavy hair so I've always struggled.)

Christina Obert: Crispy hair is called a cast and it can be a good thing. You scrunch it out once your hair is 100% dry and it then your hair is soft yet has hold with great curls/waves that last more than a day.

MsRobbieLou: Yes, as someone with curly/wavy hair, love to see that you called out the importance of placing your hair in the diffuser and your hair needs to be wet, don't towel dry too much as it will disturb your curl pattern. Thanks for the video!

Anna Fryxell: I’ve been using the Bread products for my super curly hair and I’m obsessed! The packaging is awesome.

chicky875: i love your natural waves! if you’re trying to cut down on frizz i highly recommend trying the pixie diffusing technique. with the hair dryer off pick up your section of hair, place in the diffuser then bring it up to your scalp. once you’re in position turn the blow dryer on while staying in position. once the hair is dry, turn the blow dryer off and bring it down to release the section then repeat on each section of hair. if this explanation makes no sense then there are many tutorials on pixie diffusing to reference but as a fellow wavy i have to say this technique is def my favorite

Angelo Scofield: You are naturally so beautiful Susan! You look stunning in wavy hair!

Riley Hammon: I have nearly the exact same hair type!! Love the video, it's definitely been a journey trying to figure out how to tame the frizziness and perfect the curls. I've finally learned to embrace the curls these last several years and haven't looked back. The number of times a hairstylist has told me "wow you have really thick hair" is almost humorous at this point. I know! My hair is going to take a long time to cut, I'm SORRY lol

Nic M: Seeing the products you use makes me really want to try the bread hair line and shae moisture curl smoothie...my hair is like yours just a little more curly! My fave gel though is kind of not a popular option but I find the garnier fructis pure clean styling gel great.... good hold but not sticky or crunchy at all.

Rebecca Beard: Omg, thank you, thank you!!! I'm currently pregnant with my hispanic husband's child. If we have a girl who gets her daddy's thick, wavy hair, neither of us will know what to do with it, lol. But this is so helpful! Thank you!

Bread Beauty: So glad you loved your BREAD, Susan! Thank you thank you <3

Derrick Jennifer Watkins: Love your pretty waves! I also recommend Manes by Mell 100%! If your hair dried too much it won't properly absorb the products and will be extra frizzy. Simple wet your hair a bit as a last step before drying, comb it through and scrunch. Keep adding water until you hear a squish sound when scrunching. Pump gently with your hands then scrunch with a t shirt and plop for a few minutes. Then go in with a dryer.

Riley Paige MC: Thank You! I’ve been fooling around with my natural hair texture during all this quarantine stuff too and I’m loving it! I was one of the tons of ppl who asked you to do video for your hair so thank you !!! I love this stuff

Short.andcurly: Love it!! So pretty You can definitely use a little more gel! There’s a thing in the curly community called SOTC (Scrunch Out The Crunch). Basically it means that once the hair is 100% dry you can go back in and scrunch it to break up the gel cast. It’ll take away the crunchiness but you’ll still have hold! I personally really like the Oil in Cream or the Hold Me Softly Style balm and styling soufflé (gel) from Curlsmith but there’s sooo many curly hair products to choose from across all price points. Manes by Mell is the MVP for all things curly!!

Belinda: Shea Moisture is mostly 'meh' for me. I have had a love hate relationship with that brand for years so I just don't bother anymore. I regularly use the Shea Moisture Manuka Honey & Yogurt conditioners (reg condish and hair mask) for my minimal need for protein. That works quite well, but I'd sooner suggest the Kinky-Curly line to my fellow curly brothers and sisters. Cantú products are great too. I have a mixture of 2b-3a curl patterns with high porosity hair, with a finicky scalp. My products need to be moisturizing without a lot of weight. I can't handle too many products because of my scalp so I limit myself to a leave in condish, and an dab of castor and almond oil on my still wet hair. Every so often I throw in a dab of Kinky-Curly Curling Custard to the lower half of my hair and let that baby air dry. Hair like mine HATES the blow dryer so that's never an option for me.

TV: Thank you so much for making this video; it has been really helpful! My mom and my younger cousin both have wavy hair, but since we are Asian, there is not a lot of information on how to take care of that type of hair. I really love their hair because it has so much volume that mine lacks, but I feel like they really hate their hair and that makes me so sad. I am trying to learn more about curly hair so that I can help them because I feel like they have given up at this point. If anyone has any additional recommendations, I would really appreciate it!! And thanks again Susan for making such an informative video on this topic.

Jade Strawberry: I thought I was the only one with wavy hair and those weird stick straight pieces. Aside from products and thickness, my hair has about the same amount of wave as your hair. It's very dry as well and recently found a very moisturizing shampoo by tgin, the rosewater hydrating shampoo. I usually use mousse, but might try a light gel. Your hair really does look beautiful wavy.

Jennlist: Yes!!!! The microfiber towel is the game changer !!!! It holds in all the moisture it’s definitely part of my curly routine ☺️

julia GARCIAARENAS: You look younger with your natural hair. It looks amazing. Love from Spain.

Nina Peiter Carballido Mendes: Susan you can also use heat protective creams when your going to blow dry it (in case the products you’re using don’t have it already)

Raising Parker: I got my husband curlsmith products and his hair looks great. It curly, thick and coarse. He also has it a bit longer.

Chrissy Moss: Last year I discovered the Curly Girl method and I've, honestly, never looked back! My curls are much more defined and the condition is greatly improved. The Bread Beauty products look good, but, I'd have to check the ingredients first, just to ensure they are CGM friendly. Btw, you actually look so much younger with your natural hair. ❣❣

Lucy Lessly: You can use more of the gel, because the crispyness will go away when it is completely dry and you scrunch it a bit

Jasmine Bajaj: Hi Susan, you are amazing. After done, your hair wavy is so beautiful. I like your video. You showed us practically using products details, that helped for us. I will buy them except Dyson hair dryer too expensive for me. Maybe later. Thank you so much for sharing this. It's so precious for me.

MXM: Love your routine!!! did you do the plopping method for the towel? its really enhancing my waves :)

Tim Smith: I would definitely recommend Oribe's Curl Gelee + Styling Butter! :)

YourSkinbyLaura: So glad you’re rocking your wavy hair

Maria Jimenez: Love your natural hair!! You look younger wearing it

Bronwyn Jones: Manes by Mell, 'the bigger the hair, the harder they stare'. Mell is an amazing natural hair influencer, and she has product reviews, 'how to' application and diffusing videos etc. Her personality is so much fun. Entertaining and informative. Also check out swavycurlycourtney, and a homemade flaxseed gel by naptural85. Enjoy the journey!

M.C.: God I wish I had this much hair! You're gorgeous!!

Veronica Ivanova: A tip from me: instead of a towel, use a T-shirt to dry your hair. Towels break your waves/curls.

Micaela Hernandez: I also have thick course wavy hair ( I'm Mexican). I really to just wear my hair natural but with no heat. What I do is my shampoo/ conditioner (breogio) use the Alterna moisturize cc cream and the Oui wave spray & scrunch after I shower. Leave in a bun until it's like half dry, take it out more spray and scrunch, air dry and done. I can't wait to try Bread!

Shu-Yee Shirley Luu: Omg your natural hair is gorgeous! My dream hair!

M K: Thank you for sharing !!! Your hair is gorgeous

Saralee: Love your tips and omg I'm also half Korean and have the exact same hair texture like you. I love it <3

ericaaaxoxo: Your natural hair is gorgeous!

Apple Jaxx: Yay! I’m so glad you did this video, thank you!

Julia T: Can you talk about your hair loss in a video? Temporary hair loss is now a symptom of covid, stress hair loss, etc. is super common right now. I’m struggling with this but I know a lot of others are as well.

Dana Bikowski: Would love to see a inky list hair products review they now have vitamin c and hylaronic acid for hair

Caroline Lewis: I have that thick course hair as well! Thanks for this!

Caroline Love: Your niece has beautiful curls!

Anitha: Hi. Can you do a video on layering with naturium products for hyperpigmentation.

Tango Mango: I love your wavy hair

Jen Xoxo: You are my hair goals

Caroline Miller: Hi!!!!! So you should for sure check out Manes By Mell. She has taught me everything I need to know about hair care and it changed my life! My hair is MUCH curlier than I thought, which you could find for yourself as well! Seriously, she is so funny and informative and she is a curly/textured hairstylist who has all the knowledge. She also has a wavy hair routine video which you might find helpful!

Caroline Love: This makes me happy #CurlyGirls :)

Tammy Manning Barrett: I have those baby hairs too. Especially around the edges of my face. I always have.

sobean: Is there an alternative to the Amika Curl Corps Enhancing Gel and the Bread products high in moisture available in Europe? :)

Taylor King Live: I love that you have wavy hair!

Daniell Karl: I can see Somebymi body wash please do a review about it, it's all over my newsfeed ❣

Mcallum Zac: Wait, if you have to do your hair right out of the shower, then when do you do your skincare routine? After you do your hair? Doesnt that dry out ur skin? I’m curious

Cynthia MCazares: You mentioned you don’t wash hair everyday. Does it feel sticky the next day(s) from all the products?

Sandra Plumley: Anyone got a all drugstore version of this?

Jessica Harrison: Start squishing your conditioner in I swear it does something extra

Jasper Niki: I was just going to say to comb through your hair in the shower with the conditioner on but you just said that lol

jenn kreg: God bless ur thick luscious locks I'm so envious.

J V: How do you sleep with your hair on wavy days?

Rebecca Doyle: Cries in poker straight, flat, boring hair

Exiled: I've wavy hair and ughhhhhh i can never ever manage it

Danielle Dellaratta: Hi!!!...How do you wear it to bed, so it doesn’t look crazy the next day? That’s my biggest issue!!! Thanks!

nellie Mandal: Which haircream is best sachajuan, oribe, ouai, morocconoil, leonor greyl, kerastase.
