There are lots of awesome advantages to making your own homemade products and in this video I wanted to share the wonderful and simple recipes I use as hair care 'essentials'. They all consist of natural ingredients so they don't contain any of the nasty chemicals found in a lot of mainstream hair and beauty products - anything we can do to reduce our risks of cancer and detriment to other animals is a wonderful thing!

My 55 days without waste challenge for Maui Dolphins; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFmmnA...

I will do a video sometime in the coming month on products I think are great to buy - awesome natural, sustainable, vegan, eco-friendly commercial options.

Healthy. Happy. Natural. DIY. Vegan. Compassionate. Aware. Inspired. Positive.

There are so many wonderful benefits that come from making your own homemade products, especially beauty products, and that's because the commercial cosmetic industry tends to use a lot of harmful chemicals and they also use some animal testing and some pretty and ethical marketing strategies that cultivate insecurities. In order to sell their products, they basically make money by coming up with new product ideas and finding ways to convince us that we need them and that's a pretty typical feature of the whole commercial consumer based system. The problem with cosmetics is that we use these products on a really regular basis, so if they don't put our well-being above profit margins, we can get some pretty nasty chemicals into our day-to-day lives, and even one product can contain a whole array of nasty chemicals and Effects and consumers don't want about these, and I don't think any consumers would think that's worth it to get shinier here when you're being exposed to multiple carcinogens and an increased likelihood of getting cancer. And the thing is that these bad chemicals aren't just bad chemicals. For our hair or bad chemicals, for our scalp or for our whole bodies, once they get absorbed into our systems, but they're also bad chemicals for the environment once they wash down the drain and they get into local water bodies and into the ocean and they're they Fit to whole Redfern organisms and ecosystems, so the nastiest chemicals to look out for in different commercial hair care products are things like sodium lauryl sulfate, which is a toxic compound. It can be a deadly carcinogen when mixed with other chemicals parabens, which are carcinogenic, isopropyl alcohol has links to chemical, headaches, depression and it kills positive. Internal microbes. Ppd is a toxic compound and impacts. Our immune systems, DEA, MEA and ta, are all endocrine disruptors. Propylene glycol is highlighted by the United States Environmental Protection Agency as being one of the top ten here care ingredients that can damage your health, particularly kidney and liver damage. Isobutene is another nasty chemical found and a lot of hair care products. Alcohol phenols are endocrine disruptors and 1 4 dioxane as a carcinogen known to cause breast cancer and commonly found in shampoos, so avoiding these chemicals on ingredients lists as the best way to avoid worst of commercially made haircare products, and there are some pretty horrendous ones out There that's for sure, but there are also some great options as well. There are increasingly some brands that are becoming really if achill and sustainable and considerate in the way they're produced and they're really fighting an uphill battle. When there are so many products that are mass-produced and cheap and people don't know the difference. So if you do want to buy your own products rather than make them look out for those that are sustainably produced, because it's supporting a better system - and it's just a really good thing to do - I will do a video sometime in the near future. That looks at some really awesome options for different products, different brands that are great to support if you do want to buy your own products. But if you want to make your products instead, there are lots of wonderful benefits being able to personalize them know exactly what goes in them beyond to make them ethical. Avoid animal testing and one benefit that I'm really doing at the moment, is the waste lessness of it being able to recycle glass, containers and bottles rather than buy things that have plastic packaging, and that's because of my World Wildlife Fund 55 day challenge at the moment That I'm growing 45 days without waste and thank you so much to those of you who have donated and started getting involved with the challenge. I'M looking forward to seeing some bracelets that to you guys in the coming weeks. It means a lot that you guys have started getting involved and if any of you don't order to keep out, I will link it below, but in terms of making your own hair care products. There are so many options. Now you can just go onto google and type something in and recipes will come up, but these are kind of the essentials that I use. I don't find that I need anything more than this if you have average here and you don't have any really specific requirements, these are pretty much all. You should need. There'S a shampoo and conditioner eleven here oil and a dry shampoo and he rents, and I find that they work really well for me. So I hope they useful to you as well. To start with, the shampoo contains liquid castile soap, coconut milk, bentonite clay, lavender oil, rosemary oil, vitamin E oil and optionally, some xanthan gum as well. I mixed in together a quarter of a cup of liquid castile soap, quarter of a cup of coconut milk, which nice and nourishing the teaspoon of bentonite clay, which is great for hair care. 20, drops of lavender and rosemary essential oils, which are great feels up and a half a teaspoon of vitamin E oil, which is preservative and restorative. You can also optionally add three quarters of a teaspoon of xanthan gum and whisk this into the mixture, and it will help to thicken it up, mix this up and pour it into a bottle, and you can store this in the bathroom. But if you are worried about the coconut milk going off, you can pour the mixture into a mold and put them in the freezer, and you can just pop one out every time you go to have a shower and that will last for a long period of Time that you need to worry about it for the conditioner I'm using shea butter, cocoa, butter, almond oil, vitamin E oil and lavender and frankincense oils, I'm, firstly putting two tablespoons of shea butter into a bowl, adding two tablespoons of cocoa butter, one teaspoon of almond oil, 1/2, a teaspoon of vitamin E oil and 20 drops of lavender and frankincense oils, and then I'm mounting this over a bowl of warm water, hot water and allowing it to melt taking it off the heat and allow it to cool to room temperature before whipping it Up and a whipping it just allows some air to get in. The air makes it more manageable to use, and I take a small amount of it and rub it through the lengths of my hair before washing it out a few minutes later. Next for the apple cider, vinegar rinse, which is great to remove excess residues and oils, I use some raw apple, cider, vinegar, some water and essential oils. I put 2 tablespoons of raw apple cider, vinegar into a container half a cup of water and five drops of essential oil to help with the smell and have various here benefits. Lavender oil is great for scalp health, and I just mix that together and when I'm in the shower after shampooing, I tend to pour it through my hair from the scalp down the length of my hair. Leave it in for a few minutes before washing it out. It leaves you here nice and shiny and healthy, it's great for the leave-in hair oil. I use jojoba oil sesame seed, oil, olive oil, grapeseed oil and lavender oil. I put four teaspoons of our Hope Isle into a container. It'S non oily and moisturizing into that. I add two teaspoons of sesame seed oil: this protects from UV conditions and adds shine. Then one teaspoon of olive oil and regenerative 1tsp of grapeseed oil contains vitamin C and learn alike: acid, which promotes hair, appear and then 10 drops of lavender oil, which is great for the scalp and this great smell as well. I'M accept together and I just put a small amount in the palm of my hand or my fingertips and rub it through the lower portion of my hair, especially in my tips, and keeps your hair, nice and moisturized and shiny as well and then. Lastly, for dry. Shampoo, this is great, some voice fear I've got up on my channel already. I use corn starch, cocoa, rosemary oil and cinnamon and turmeric spices. I mix together four teaspoons of cornstarch which absorbs the oils toh teaspoons of cocoa, which takes away the grain effect and the quarter of a teaspoon of cinnamon and turmeric spices. And this just helps with the color, as well as having various positive effects for your hair and scalp five drops of rosemary oil, which promotes hair growth. So the scalp helps with dandruff and once it's mixed together, then I put it into a shake container and shake some of it into my scalp and under the layers in my hair and brush it through and it takes out any excess oils. So that's how I make the natural hair care products that I use and in terms of the ingredients I often buy them affordably online, I heard calm. I will link any useful links to those products below and the individual ingredients do come packaged, but I'm using them over a course of one year or two years instead of buying prepackaged shampoos and conditioners every couple of weeks. So it definitely works out better and often you can find last bottles and things that contain these ingredients, which is really great. So it can really be easy to enjoy a better way of doing things, and I hope you found this very useful.

MariLU: That's so funny. Today I went to the store because I needed a new conditioner. I initially wanted to buy something organic but also had an eye on the prices. 1 bottle of 'normal' conditioner is from 4 to 6 bucks. 1 bottle of organic conditioner is from 18 to 25 bucks!!! (Yeah, I live in Switzerland) And now this video is in my recommendations :D But I find it so stupid and unfair that you have to be 'rich' to be healthy or care for the environement.

Lakota Wilson: This was so helpful to me and came at the best time. I've been transitioning to vegan and my hair has been breaking a falling out like crazy. I guess it's a combination of losing the animal fats in my diet and also the drastic change in weather. Any tips or advice would be awesome

Rhesa Lacanienta: very eloquent and educational! I thoroughly enjoyed this video. thanks so much. I think it's important for people to know the truth! I started making my own shampoo and conditioner a few months ago and I don't think I'll ever turn back!

Natasha Green - Chillaxed Products: I'm a Qualified Naturpath and Aromatherapist and thinking of a tip for you, just let people know not to use the Lavender called Lavendula Augustifolia as it's toxic to Pregnant & Breatfeeding mums, young children under 7yrs, sensitive skin, and elderly as there kidneys and blood circulation can't process this type. It's the way the Lavender is processed. Can cause miscarriage in pregnant women. I hate when I see it in the Johnson & Johnson baby calming Body lotion and bath wash - makes me cringe Was just a tip for you. You can read up on it so you know..

Insomnlia: I am honestly spellbound, I've been subscribed to and following various natural beauty channels but they all seem homemade and natural hair and body care seem so confusing and difficult, but I've spent a total of 8:15 minutes on one of your videos and I feel enlightened! Like I can finally understand the recipes, the logic behind it, everything! Thank you so much!

Another Human: I love your incorporation of education and DIY, it really shows the purpose of the product being made in an ethical standpoint (: you should have more exposer to the world and you definitely deserve more viewers/ subscribers!

The Beauty Sensei: I'm so happy I found your channel!! Thank you so much for sharing all of this awesome information! I started beauty blogging and once I really got into researching ingredients, I have completely shifted into a mindset of trying to create my own products. Your channel is proving to be a huge resource for me. Thank you!!! Xoxoxo!

I recently did a project on the topic of the enviornment and I used your sugar scrub tutorial to distribute to the class. Your videos have inspired me to be more mindful of the effect I have on the environment. Once again thanks for all the work that you put into each video.

I believe that as time goes by ,i will become better . Greetings from Greece!!

Eatmybrain: this videos was super educational, thanks!! :) I didn't even know about some chemicals (maybe because they aren't allowed in my country bc I never saw them there). Don't forget about silicons, mineral oil and quats who are super toxic for the environment and have an occlusive effect on your scalp! You put a lot of essential oils in your products, essential oils have a lot of benefits for us but I'm not sure if this amount is safe because they go trough the skin until the veins. It can be toxic to have a certain amount of them in the blood system.

Free Bird: Was looking for zero waste recipe, found you channel. You represent and fight for all I do as well. Subscribed immediately!!

Izzy D.: Thank you for the recipes, I will definitely try all of them soon :)

luna rose: I'm absolutly blown away by how simple and effective this products are. In my country when you said your eco/bio etc people will laught at you and told that you're wasting money and it doesn't change anything for the planet anyway ;/ For about 6 mounths or even a year me and my mom we are more careful when we bought cosmetics. There are some chemicals that we disquality in our products. But I don't know about isopropyl alcohol at all..I made a dry shampoo, but right now I'm using a homemade spray for my scalp ;) After some time I noticed a positive change on my skin (I have acne). I still have it,but it's definetfly not that bad in that time in a month and the breakdowns isn't that hard like in the past. And I'm in 100% agree with you about this whole comercials and this 'need' for something we don't actually must have.

FlameExecutioner: I used to wash my hair with baking soda and vinegar before I found this Trader Joe's brand of Shampoo and Conditioner called Tea Tree Tingle. It caught my attention because it had none of the chemicals listed and seemed to be made with all natural ingredients. I'm curious to know whether it's a good product or not. I have no doubt that it's better than most but I would still like to know the extent of its safety. I'm not sure if you can get your hands on it or the ingredients list.

Eline Hendriks: Great, great video!! Is the oil you make for your hair not making your hair look oily? Not too long ago I bought a vegan oil for my hair and I really noticed it made my hair look very nasty even though I used a very little bit of it.

Diana Dordea: such a great video! thank you ! for hair I use natural hair soap :D made only from natural oils ( coconut oil, castor oil, essential oils) and my hair and scalp feel great! And because I have oily scalp I can wash my hair how often I want because this natural hair soap doesn't damage my hair. It is great to be on natural!

Pradnya V: This is what I needed! Tysm ela! I really like ur videos :)

againstthetimes: Yes please! Do a brand list! chromatic.death: I tried the shampoo recipe with the optional xanthan gum. It turned into this pasty goop after a week or so.

Paper Kawaii - Origami Tutorials: Great video! I noticed the ends of your hair are bleached, did you find a more natural way to do this?
