The reason why I no longer use coconut oil in my hair care routine! I used to LOVE coconut oil, so this was pretty shocking to me, but nevertheless, here's my reasoning why! I hope you enjoy the video and I'm hoping it helps anyone else out there struggling with unexplained hair loss, an irritated scalp and/or dry hair! XoXo! Nap

Hey guys so today I'm going to be talking about coconut oil and why I stopped using it. I want to make a separate video to talk about it because I feel like it might help some people out there who might be going through something similar. So you guys know I've been having hair issues since dyeing my hair, a while back and I've been trying to figure out what the heck is going wrong. I made a whole separate video about why your hair might be falling out. One of the things was vitamin D deficiency. I still think it had to do with that, but I think I figured out the main culprit. Finally, I figured out that it was coconut oil. Now I know that it was coconut oil because ever since I stopped using it, my hair has been growing like crazy. All of my symptoms have stopped and I am seeing so much progress if you guys have seen that meme, where it's like got dry hair, coconut oil got dry. Skin coconut oil, empty bank account coconut oil. Like that meme was me. I was literally putting coconut oil on everything I was pre playing with. I was deep conditioning with it wasn't a portion of my routine that did not involve coconut oil and I feel like number one I might have overdone it with the coconut oil or number two. When I dyed my hair, it just changed the porosity and the chemical makeup of my hair, and it was like we're done with coconut oil. Some of my symptoms were obviously when my hair was falling out. My scalp was extremely inflamed. Red itchy I felt like there were cuts on my scalp, like it would sting. My hair was obviously falling out like so much shed hair. It was crazy, it was dry, it was brittle, it wasn't soaking and moisture at all, and this whole time I was thinking it was my deficiencies or something going on inside, and I was trying to figure out you guys saw. I was like trying everything and I just sat down on the couch one day and I was just like what is going on and then I remembered how every time I would do like a hair routine using coconut oil. There would be some girls who are like. Oh, what can I substitute for coconut oil, because my hair hates coconut oil right here other women saying that they were allergic to coconut oil? And I thought in my head, I was like hmm. I use a lot of coconut oil. What, if I'm one of the girls who are allergic to coconut oil, so that night I had to wash my hair? I decided that I would not do any pre-poo, no deep conditioning with coconut oil. I just cut coconut oil out completely, and I kid you not my hair immediately, bounced back literally from just shampooing whatever product was in my hair out that obviously had coconut oil and it i shampooed that out, I didn't add any more additional coconut oil. My scalp felt so good. My hair was soaking in moisture immediately. It was almost like. My hair was reacting to coconut oil, like some people's hair reacts to like a protein treatment if their proteins sensitive like coconut oil sensitivity, that's what I had. I was actually like. Really shocked, I was surprised. I was like yelling for Filipe to come in to see this because my hair hadn't soaked in moisture like that and so long. It just kept getting more brittle, more brittle and was just falling out, and I just didn't know what to do, and here I was, I just stopped using coconut oil for one day and my hair immediately bounced back I've been using it for years, so this was Kind of hard for me to believe so after about two weeks of not using coconut oil, my scalp went back to its normal color. It was no longer red. My scalp no longer felt like it was cut up, there's no more stinging. My hair was absorbing moisture. So much better and I was losing less hair in the shower and at that point I just knew I was like okay, it's the coconut oil. I had to stop using coconut oil, so I stopped using completely one shot for products that aren't my DIY products. I'M always checking the label to make sure there's no coconut oil in it. I have accidentally used a few products with coconut oil and when I do do that, I notice the difference immediately. My hair goes back to being dry and brittle and I noticed that it doesn't soak in moisture like I should so that's how I figured out that my hair was allergic or that I have a coconut oil sensor. I don't even know what the heck to call this, but that's the one. I realized that my hair hates coconut oil and it's that to me is crazy, because I spent years loving, like I had a love affair with coconut oil. I don't know exactly what it is. All I know is that my hair now hates coconut oil, so I avoid it like the plague, I'm reading labels, I won't buy a product for house, coconut oil, and I'm saying this to you guys not to make you afraid of coconut oil, don't be afraid of Coconut oil coconut oil works for you keep using it, there's no reason for you to stop using it. If you like it, this video is just more for those who are wondering why I stopped using it. Also, if you're somebody, whose hair just keeps falling out your scalp is just a hot mess and you can't figure out, what's going on, think to yourself, if you're using coconut oil, how often do you use it, it might be the coconut oil try it taking that Out of your regimen and see what happens to your hair and scalp. For me it was an instant, so it might just help you guys. So that's pretty much the whole story why I stopped using coconut oil. I hope that it helps anybody out there who might be suffering from the same thing and just doesn't know why just goes to show you that your hair regimen can change it can change drastically and without warning, and just one thing that works for somebody isn't gon Na work for somebody else, one thing that used to work for you may not even work for you in the future, which is just crazy to me, but yeah, alright, guys. I hope this video helped and I'll see you in the next one. If you missed my last video, it was a hundred layers of wigs. I did the hundred layers challenge and, oh, my god, it was crazy. So much fun is such a funny video. If you guys enjoy watching just crazy stupid things, click the link on top. It is a good time. I promise you and if you guys are into daily vlogs coming out with me in the family by clicking the link at the bottom. Alright, guys I'll see you there

Camia Jackson: ever one has different hair we don't have your hair

thefutureismine: so we're not going to address the elephant in the room.

TeeMill: I just love how humble your responses are to the ones who are being rude in the comments. This is your personal experience, and what we fail to understand is that everyone is different. Just because your hair loves coconut oil, doesn't mean that mine does.. and that's okay.

aTropicalTwist: UPDATE: the Green Beauty Channel recently addressed why Coconut Oil makes some of our hair dry. Low porosity types (like me) with tight hair cuticles tend to have this issue, especially if they use a lot of it.

serenesista: I had exact same symptoms. My scalp would itch like a thousand ants were biting me. The moment I washed my hair I had relief. I was aaaaahing like crazy in the shower. I did not dye my hair, or change my diet or do anything. I don't think you did anything either. You're not alone. My hair hates it too. I recently went crazy inching after using a product with coconut oil. I'm really sad about it but I have to avoid it like the plague now.

Brittney Seals-Johnson: Ive had the same problem recently! Ive only used coconut oil for a deep conditioning treatment about 4 times and eveytime I did, my hair felt more dry and brittle after I washed it out than before and my hair was shedding like crazy! Everyone says use coconut oil but its definitely a no go for me.

Fran S: OMG!! My hair hates coconut oil...it made my hair feel like straw and turned into a tangled mess. Once I stopped using it....such a HUGE difference! The same goes for olive oil too. Glad you found the culprit!

Proper Potato: I use coconut oil and my hair has been growing like crazy. I think, it's the fact that you might use it too much like you said. I use it sometimes and other times I use almond oil and olive oil with and without coconut oil. And my hair has improved a lot, so i don't know maybe it's the over usage.

For The Black Future: I’m so thankful I found this! I broke up with coconut oil 3 days ago because I finally realized that after months of escalating irritation, dandruff, stinging and burning, and actual irl hair thinning, that I might be coconut-oil resistant. I’ve had hair loss all over my scalp, but mostly at the crown of my head where I used to apply coconut oil the most. As soon as I saw this video, I shampooed my hair and left coconut oil out of my routine. I had immediate relief. IMMEDIATELY sis lol. I also hadn’t noticed that the texture of my hair was changing, making it super difficult to detangle which obs cause more stress and hair loss from struggling to detangle. I’m taking biotin vitamins and added a nutrition/vegan protein shake to my diet to help any vitamin deficiencies. BLESS I have curly high volume hair y’all but I am telling you, my crown is significantly thinner. Just hoping my care routine and diet upgrade help restore my natural thick hair

Spacey.: Thank you for this video!!! You've rescued my scalp!! My scalp was super itchy it was breaking out in nasty bumps and I couldn't figure out why. I saw this video and stopped using coconut oil. Haven't had a problem since!! I have to be super cart because if I accidentally get just a little coconut oil in my hair, my scalp breaks out!

meetShoya: I am so happy I found this video. I was having the exact same issue and didn't know why my hair and scalp was affecting me. Now I know it's due to the oil (coconut oil) I was using in my hair. Again, thank you!

chels e.: I've used coconut oil for one week in the past, NEVER AGAIN. It makes my scalp so flaky and itchy! I'm just sticking with the oils that have never done me wrong (olive oil is my day #1)

Willatastic: Huge tip I learnt in my life is - It also depends on your genetics! I realised that other oils didn't work as much as coconut oil and also bhringaraj oil. When I used other oils, my hair reacted in a weird way and I went to my hair "doctor" (certified BTW) told me that different cultures from different places and climates have different preferences

Patricia Galloway: We found out the same thing!! Coconut oil was making my hair dry! I'm in the process of starting over growing my hair natural and I'm taking it back to basics. Shea Butter, deep conditioning, hot oil treatments and lots of water

SecondNature13: Thank you so much for this video! I couldn't figure out what was going on with my hair, all of a sudden it was falling out, dry, & brittle. Then I watched this the day before wash day, cut out the coconut oil, & my hair changed immediately just like yours! I'm so excited to not be stressed about losing my hair in clumps anymore!

samara: im so glad i found this video. i have been having a lot of shedding lately and like you i use it for everything!. im definitely gonna make a change to my routine. thank you and i just love your little family you guys are beautiful people!

TheKaren_makeup: I had the same symptoms with coconut oil so I switched to mango oil and avocado oil. Your hair is nice! The elephant is on Fleek!

Cristal ;-;: I have naturally curled hair (I've never dyed it) and it personally works amazing for me, it enhances my curls (I straighten my hair once every few weeks so my hair is a bit damaged and it helped a lot aswell). Obviously I don't have curls like you I have long hair that's about up to my butt and my hair is also pretty thick.

Sonja Myers: Thank you for giving such great advice on so many different way to take care of and style our natural hair. I love how you give practical advice that can be used by those of us who are mom's with extremely busy schedules because personal I like so many others don't have all day to spend on my hair. I also think it's wonderful that you are giving your viewers "a bit of control over" your channel (that's awesome!) That being said, I have an idea In addition to product reviews, have you ever thought of reviewing some of the books out there that talk about natural hair on your channel? Most people who write hair care books hope they will get a major endorsement by means of a review from those big names with initials like OW or WW, I'm sure you know who, but realistically I think the average woman would love to get the thumbs up or down from someone like you who is well known but does their own hair and not from someone who has a team of "professionals" doing the work for them! I recently ordered a book from Amazon entitled "Who You Calling 'Nappy Head'?"   It's an interesting take on the abuse we put our hair through to fit in when others say negative things about our natural tresses.  What makes this story so unique is that it's told from the hair's point out view. It made me laugh, but it really made me stop and think about how bad I've treated my hair over the years I'm sure all naturalistas can relate to the abuse and torture we've constantly put our hair through before we went back to being natural, and the struggles young girls and many women continue to face by being pressured to fit into an unrealistic image that others try to persuade them to conform to. I would like to hear your honest opinion of reading material such as this and other books we are not aware of that can make a difference in the way we view ourselves and how to proudly embrace our natural beauty. It would be nice to get the review from a woman who can sympathize with the ongoing journey because she too lives it along with the rest of us each and every day. You can call your segment: An Everyday Woman Speaks

Oriah Mother: Thanks. I was using coconut oil on my daughter, and she started getting bumps and red spots in her head so I had to stop and now it's getting better and I love it. I thought she was the only one that was going through this. She's only 2. What can I use to make her hair grow faster?

JaeTracie: My hair LOVES coconut oil. And it's the ONLY oil that actually soothes and heals my scalp when other products drive it crazy.

Bb Lngstckngz: I absolutely adore coconut oil! My hair lives it. My mom and sister's though say it makes their hair really brittle from all the protein it contains. They swear by Olive oil, which my hair hates. Its trial and error with natural hair ladies. What works for you is not universal to all natural

Sophia's Journey: Wow, this video was really helpful. Coconut oil did the same to my scalp. I had stopped using it recently, because of these same symptoms. My scalp has never been better, since I stopped using it. Thanks for sharing your story, *Naptural85.*

Moni M: Hey Whitney. Happy to hear you've found a solution to your issue. I'm wondering if the issue with Coconut oil was caused by an adverse chemical reaction from the hair dye? Isn't that when your issues really started occurring? After the color application? Are you still applying color to your hair? If not, it would be interesting to see if after all of the color is gone, your hair have the same reaction to coconut oil that it once did.

Mary Ainomugisha: Finally someone says it! I've been faithful to coconut oil since I started out but I noticed my hair became so greasy and just could not take the weight of the oil so I stopped using it a while back. I'm sooo glad I did because I've started using other oils that are much lighter and my hair loves.

Moriah Mcclendon: When people find out I have sensitive skin their first response is always "Oh, you should try using coconut oil. It's natural and cures like everything." and I'm just like.... "Yeah, maybe I will on a day that I feel like being covered in a thousand angry hives."

blackvelvet: Coconut oil makes me itch I had to stop using it but for some people I hear it's amazing. Glad you got your hair healthy again!! Thanks for sharing your experience.

voicesinthewoods: Thank you so much for this video! I've been having similar reactions...hair falling out, brittle and feeling straw-like, itchy scalp. It wasnt like that before and my hair has always been very thick. I had a sneaking suspicion that might be it, but was unsure....THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO! I dont feel crazy now! Going to stop the use, pronto!

Marisa Pharr: this is me. I loved coconut oil, but it only took me about 2 months to realize my hair was more dry, my scalp was sore and itchy and it made me have acne in the worst way

Jennell: That’s crazy, I used to get similar reactions.. it made my hair so dry and look dull along with the crappy products I use to use. I started using the right products for my hair and my hair did a complete 360. It looks and feels so much better

naturals_hairloome Sabrina.B: Oh gawd girl I feel your pain, I've never used it in my hair due to the same reaction.

HealthyHairRiddles: Coconut Oil is a natural protein reconstructer. They discuss that in the Science of Black Hair. So, it could be you over-proteinated your hair. I am protein sensitive, so I cannot use coconut oil. Also, Aloe Vera has protein in it too. So, I can't use that either. So glad to hear your hair is back on track!

Taura Helms: I don't think I'll ever completely eliminate coconut oil. I think it is normally everyone's go to oil and that can be a problem if it is abused. There are so many butters now that experimenting with different things is a good way to go.

DM: It's interesting for me that I only recently concluded my hair doesn't like coconut oil (drying) yet my skin (face in particular) really likes it, especially when I'm in warm climates. It's so reassuring to know it really doesn't agree with everyone because as you say, coconut oil has been hyped soo much for soo long now.

Faythe Crosby: The same thing happened to me... I felt like I put a relaxer on my hair and got burnt.. I had to go to the dermatologist because the reaction was so bad.. but thank you for making this video..I was just like you I used it in everything and with no warning I started having this reaction and it's been a couple months since my first reaction... I wanted to see if I grew out of it.. but I didn't...loved coconut oil

Cassandra Taylor: The same thing happened to me! I saw a doctor for the last couple years with a diagnosis of seborrhea dermatitis. Only to realize that it is a coconut sensitivity. I would literally pre-poo my hair and be left with inflamed and itchy scalp the next minute. If I left it in overnight my scalp would be so sore. Once I stopped using it I was back to normal. Good to see that I’m not the only one.

Tamara Nicole: Please watch the entire video. She said she may have ABUSED coconut oil. Too much of anything is NOT good. Coconut oil is amazing. But like any other product, it is not for everyone.

Neccessary Brown: I literally just heard about you 10 minutes ago and you are a life saver! I've always been deathly allergic to coconut so I caught hell trying to find products for my hair and skin. I'm subscribing and will be watching all of your vids for tips. Thank you so much!

D Josey: OMG me too! My scalp would itch like crazy until I stopped using it! Thank you for sharing

Aaileyah Lynn: I just experienced this today. My hair started becoming very dry ,super brittle and hard and stiff. And I remembered I tried coconut oil to my regimen. I'm so upset because it caused unnecessary shedding and now I'm trying to revitalize my hair and get it back healthy. I hate unnecessary set backs. Coconut oil is canceled!

Miss Mac: Sounds definitely like an allergy or an intolerance to coconut oil. I use the Palmers Coconut Oil and I have no problems, my hair has really grown long and healthy.

Cody Hedges: Overuse of some products can cause an allergic reaction. Sometimes your body can just start fighting off things and having adverse reactions for no reason at all. Your hair is beautiful in this video by the way.

flowerweak: This video may have saved my hair. I've been using coconut oil for years, given up and accepted my hair won't grow past where it's been. I saw this a few weeks ago, decided to give no coconut oil a try and I can't believe what my hair feels like two weeks later. I switched to olive oil and it's been miraculous. Coconut oil is not for everyone. I never would have realized that was the culprit. Thanks so much.

Tee Dee: I noticed coconut oil made my acne worse too so I also stopped using it on my scalp. Great video Whitney.

H. W.: Thank you for this video. I just got some coconut oil and have been learning more about it. Coconut might work great but- Allergies are something to consider. Everyone is unique and what works for one person may not work for another.

Black and Natural in Jerusalem: Wow! My hair LOVES coconut oil but hates olive oil. Interesting how different people's hair responds to things differently. But I only pre-poo with it and sometimes seal with it. I used to put it in my DC, but I stopped years ago. Glad you found the culprit to your hair issues. I'd probably weep if I had to give it up, lol!

Lori Ferguson: Hi Whitney! Im going to focus on porosity and the nature of coconut oil Many people with low porosity hair are protein sensitive They cant use coconut oil due to the protein It will sit on the hair and make the hair hard and dry Coconut oil being a penetrative oil, or the fact that in drier or colder climates it is more likely to make your hair hard because coconut oil solidifies at colder temperatures I hoped this helped some people

SMH: You dont know how much I appreciate your "to the point" videos that are no more than 5 to 8 minutes in duration. So many black hair care YouTubers would have made this same video and drug it out to 20 plus minutes with nonrelated verbiage that drives me crazy, not to mention a waste of everyones time. Thanks you! Keep up the great work.

Venus iriazz: Ive used coconut oil for years and its made my hair so soft after deep conditioning treatments. I hope this never happens to me because i love that stuff.

marievie91: okay, let me tell you this helped me LOADS! I was trying to grow my hair long and luscious so I started using coconut oil... mind you I ALWAYS let my hair air dry and I only straightened it or applied heat once in like three months span... but I used coco oil to make it softer and all the problems kicked in! it would break at the ends SOOOOO bad, the dandruff was freaking real, my scalp was itchy and yeah... it was a mess, and I had not thought of the coconut oil... and my hair was down to my booty, like... I had tried so hard to make it this long and then boom, coconut oil.... so yeah, thank you for this video!!!!!

Taylor Evans: I used to use coconut oil.all of the type and my scalp was always itchy, my hair was brittle but always felt weighed down. I used the LOC method for low porosity hair (light oils and protein free products basically) and it bounced back. it started growing like crazy. coconut oil is so overrated.

Tenache Hunter: I had the same situation with olive oil, had a consistent reaction, scalp on fire to the point where even water was painful. I did some research and discovered like 90% of olive oil produced AROUND THE WORLD isn’t even olive oil at all. So I stopped using it altogether

expertonmyself: GIRL! i stopped using it the 2nd time i went natural. i'm like you; i thought i was "the only one" whose hair doesn't dig it. i'm not allergic to it, but it had the opposite effect on my hair & scalp. my hair doesn't absorb it either; it just sits. i used to apply it to my roots so it could sink into my scalp, thinking it was "better" for me. nope. it's so dag on oily for me too; i had to be so freakin' careful because it would leave that jheri curl stain on places i sat, even after just a light application. it's so funny because when people hear that i don't use it, they're like "whaaaat?!" LOL.

Keisha Branch: Thank you for this video! I noticed my hair shedding this week. My hair hasn't shed in years. As a matter of fact, since I was 17. I am now 44. The culprit? Recent change to a coconut oil based product. It's actually listed as the second ingredient on the back. Coconut oil is not mentioned on the advertising label on the front. The label advertises Shea butter, Jojoba oil, and Japanese Green Tea Leaves. I was ignorant of the Coconut oil situation until now. Product sold at national chain of stores owned by billionaire family. Check The Forbes List. They usually make the top ten.

Ria Ford: I might test this, as my hair is still falling out a lot in the shower. Like, I lost a whole lock last time, a whole thick curl! My shampoo and conditioner is a coconut oil product, and I seal with coconut oil, pretty much daily. I also pre-shampoo with coconut oil. It might not be that, but it's worth a shot to see what happens. Although, I'm wondering if it is castor oil. I use it on the last day of the week on my scalp only, but funnily enough, the last two times that I've used it (I get a bit lazy with it, or forget since I use it once a week) my scalp was so itchy, and it was the day after when I showered that I lost a lot of hair. I don't put coconut oil on my scalp, which is why I'm suddenly questioning. I might not use the castor oil this Friday, then use it the following Friday to see the difference. My head was so itchy that it became sore from itching it! And it's so not cool when you work with children and worry that it could be head lice!

Sharmander: That elephant is SLAYING girl!!!! But in all seriousness - I greatly appreciated this video because now I'm rethinking my life choices involving coconut oil......my hair hasn't acted as well as of late and I did reintroduce coconut oil back into my regimen......this calls for an experiment!!!! Cue Bill Nye theme song music

Jason Bulger: My hair reacted da same way to coconut oil. It was dry and breaking off. My scalp even had those cuts and was bleeding so crazy. I been took coconut oil out of my regimen and my hair and scalp instantly healed aswell. Thank you for sharing this information with everyone.

JitalyJ - Feeling It 100%: Wow. I tried coconut oil 1 day during prepoo and felt stinging in my scalp. Thank you for the heads up. I ended up washing out my mask treatment that followed to avoid more irritation and won't use it again on my hair.

Aida F.: I went through the same exact thing. I became addicted to coconut oil a year ago, I used it for my hair, nails, eyelashes, as a body oil. It helped my hair grow 3 healthy inches last year but them my hair became so dry and brittle so I switched from coconut oil to Olive oil and my hair, nails and skin LOVES it!!

Gears Starting: It sounds like you were either developed an allergic reaction to coconut oil, were not using it correctly, or you were overusing it. One thing I think people must remember, especially with oils when using it as a moisturizer, is to add water as well. Some find it better if they spray their hair with a bit of water, sort of work the water in the hair, wait a couple of moments, and then apply the oil. Also, the type of coconut oil is important as well. It is commonly said that extra virgin, cold pressed coconut oil is the best kind to use.

Shaterra Thorne: It's so crazy that you made this video. I also stopped using coconut oil and my hair feels sooooo much better.

KayJayS: I used coconut oil often in the past and I'm currently trying to reuse it. It actually moisturized my hair. I really only have a problem with olive oil, I used it so much that my hair got used to it so it does nothing for me but get super oily. I'm going to try a few more different types. I like almond and grapeseed. I need to create a new regimen

Xina Tastic: holy crap!!!!!! Thank you for this post. I am also a coconut oil freak...but my hair has started to shed recently...more than before & my scalp has been so sensitive. The coconut oil usage in my hair stops NOW. Thank you.

Janeeka: you saved my hair. It was coming out in clumps. Coconut oil used in excessive amounts. For the most part, all of the symptoms you had in your last video was the same as mine. trying the 80/10/10 diet now. #priceless

Camika C: You know what, I never put the two together. I use coconut oil on my hair constantly and never once thought that maybe the oil is what's causing all of the pain and discomfort with my scalp issues. I'm going to lay off of the coconut oil for a few just to see if that's causing my scalp issues. Thank you so much for sharing.

xogulxo2: My old biology teacher told me that the body kind of readjusts every 7 years (I believe it has to do with homeostasis) so something you used to hate maybe you like now, or in a more serious case, something you were not allergic to you can become allergic to later in life and vice versa. Pretty crazy right

Glamourstry: Its a matter of trial and error and it great that you found out what works for you NOW. Sometimes I hair changes and so should our routines. I have recently realized that a lot of times, we start having issues with natural products including oil, when we are not cleansing the hair like we should. We use oils and other products on out hair and then use a sulfate-free shampoo or co wash and the scalp and hair is not getting as clean as it could. It is important to clarify. I have started clarifying my hair more with the Giovanni Tea Tree Triple Threat and my hair has been thriving. Sometimes you need something with more cleaning power than the sulfate-free moisturizing shampoos a lot of us use.

Carley Daniels: I think it’s hilarious when people actually say coconut oils “works wonders” coconut oil literally sits on your hair, you hair doesn’t absorb it cause the molecules are too big, and keeps more moisture from getting into your hair. People hype that shit up way to much. I use it for skin, teeth whitening, ect, but I absolutely hate it on my hair and it takes so much shampoo to get it out of my hair. That shit stays on the hair and it’s way to hard to wash it out.

Alexis Crabtree: Coconut oil helped my hair amazingly I had dry, breaking ends on my hair, my hair was having trouble growing out and ever since I use coconut oil my hair now it's shiny and extremely soft and looks healthy and has been growing I love coconut oil I mix coconut oil with conditioner and put it in my hair every other day for an hour an a half

patrice johnson: I am sooooooo glad I re-watch this video...... I recently notice two to three spots on my scalp were the hair was thining, and of course I was like "ooohhh no, i have to address this situation" ...... like you , I stoped using coconut oil on my hair and after a week or so I noticed little new sprout were starting to grow so Immediately i new removing coconut oil out of my hair regimen was a good thing to do, now my hair is flourishing ....... Funny/wierd thing Is on my arms and legs i can still use coconut oil (to keep that body butter soft) ........

Paula c: You are absolutely correct. I used Bella Curls on my daughter's hair because a co-worker told me it will make it easy to comb, it did, but my daughter's hair started falling out a lot and getting really hard and fried. As soon as I stopped using the Bella curls coconut whip. Her hair drastically improved. I do as you do, avoid all products with coconut.

Apricot Curls: Same thing happening to me after using a Loreal dye, its been 2 years and I know now my hair (scalp) will never be the same. During that time I also discoverd Coconut oil "sensitivity" and sadly all products I have include it (Cantu/SM) so I literally have to deal with it until I can replace Shampoo, Conditioner, Leave in and Styler. Its been pretty difficult finding curly friendly products that don't contain it since it is so trendy right now. I appreciate your latest video on products that are coconut free, really hope to see more of those! Ty for sharing! Subscribed <3.

Claire Janssen: I use pure organic coconut oil to help my hair recover after coloring it and it has helped me so much and my curls are a lot more bouncy and soft

Kehinde Rowland: I've never had any scalp problem from any natural hair product/oil/routine like the same symptoms you're describing happened to people that co washed as well But for my hair coconut oil is definitely a positive because of all the protein:)

salone4life: I agree with you, my hair doesn’t take well to coconut oil. I instead use coconut water as a rinse once a week and it keep it moving. Thanks for this ❤️

Brianna Renée: I just dyed my hair as well. Coconut oil has been making my hair so heavy and has changed the porosity. Thank you for making this!

Gracemystar: Omgggg yes. My hair has been shedding like crazy and my scalp very inflamed, itchy, and had that “cut” feeling. I realized this started once I incorporated a deep conditioner with coconut oil as it’s 2nd ingredient. And I already use a moisturizer with coconut oil. I cut out the oil itself a while back cause it made my hair dry. I suppose I’m coconut oil sensitive, even when it’s just in products

Brianna Renée: I'm allergic to coconut oil on my face, so this makes so much more sense. What did you use to get your curls back to retain moisture?

Butffuck Touch my ass: It's because you was over using it. Too much of everything isn't good! Hair looks amazing full and healthy ❤️

Theresa: I too experienced my hair falling out with the coconut oil. I stopped and after about 2 weeks I noticed a difference. Even my husband noticed all the strands of hair in the bathroom. I no longer use on my hair, but still use otherwise. No sure what the problem is with it. I used it for about 3-4 months before I noticed the hair falling out.

Hello_therrre: i think this is a prime example of "too much of a good thing is bad" its a good lesson for us naturals to learn. I know  heavy handed one when it comes to my hair

Izetta Nah: Wow! thanks so much for this video. I've been trying to grow my hair but on the contrary, for two months now I noticed that my hair keeps falling and dry more than before. I am beginning to suspect that it might be the coconut oil I added. I will give it a try by removing from my hair treatment.

Aldeen Adolphus: This SAME thing happened to me. It made my scalp itchy and my hair started to fall out.

Elderberry Jamz: Many popular natural oils can cause malassezia fungus overgrowth resulting in dandruff and dermatitis, among other scalp conditions. I've learned that it's best to just leave the oils and heavy products for the ends of my hair.

Project Life: This is the same for me when it comes to olive oil. Olive oil immediately causes my scalp to become itchy and feel irritated. Coconut oil is not the best for me either. I use it every once in a while. Thanks for sharing.

El Ellie: I know how much you loved to use coconut oil for some time. You were not wrong for loving it. You can use a product for a very long time and suddenly become allergic to it.

A Munhoz: hey i hope this helps, check the ammount of ammonia in the tube you color your hair with, if you dont have access to it, ask your professional. the coconut oil could have intervene with the pH and thats why your scalp felt the way it did! and you are completely right! you were probably using too much coconut oil. anything, even the best things when used too much can have a negative side effect, even water!!

Myra in North Florida: Thank you for sharing this!!! I have a love affair with CO too. As of today, I am going on a CO diet to see if this will help my hair. I have been losing hair over the past 3-4 years. Going to see if this simple elimination will improve my hair loss.

B. Davis: Thank you so much @naptural85! My hair is doing so much better after eliminating coconut oil from my hair care regiment.

Shante Floey: I never had a problem with coconut oil!! but I was told that coconut oil is too heAvy for anybody's hair if used excessively. but coconut oil is great to use as a hair mask or pre poo treatment. as long as you are washing it out of your hair. great video:)

Luciane Fortes: Hey! I do the low poo method and a hairdresser in Brazil told me that coconut oil, can seal the hair as much as mineral oils. So, she told me that I should avoid using oils in my hair, because it's counter productive if I want to keep it moisturized. Any thoughts o that? Wanna help me with research on the topic? :D PS: I don't use coconut oil (or any oil) too much and my hair seems to be okay most of the time. I was just surprised with her telling me to stop using oils...

joblank74: I also stopped using coconut oil and think it really improved my hair. I don’t think I’m allergic but my hair isn’t as dry. I used to prepoo and loc with coconut oil. Now I switched to grapeseed, johoba, and almond oil. Much better!

TheCurlyFitChic: OMGosh....I learned this when I first learned about the "Natural Hair" community and decided to listen to what most naturals was saying. That was 6 years ago. I am NOT able to use ANY products that even have coconut oil in it (believe me I tried). I've stated this multiple times in my Instagram and I do let people know that say they are experiencing dryness or other problems, to try and remove it and see. FYI, if it is coconut oil, other oils that may cause this problem is avocado and almond. I tried those as well and my hair had the same reaction. I only use jojoba, argan and castor (mix with one of the others since it's so thiick). Even olive oil does my hair wrong. SO glad you put up this video. You have a huge audience and this will definitely help people that may not know! Love it!!

foryoutoenvy: Thank you so much...I was wondering why my daughter's hair was so dry and she started to get dandruff. I loved loved coconut oil. I won't use it any more and see how it works out.

jessica townsend: I have psoriasis in my hair and I've tried using coconut oil by itself in my hair along with some mixtures and it definitely inflames my scalp as well. And I use organic, so I don't get the big deal about coconut oil.

Baby Angy: Oh my gosh yes, my hair hates coconut oil, it dry my hair. I'm now using just wild grow oil... And I'll definitely use the green tea technique you suggested thank you

BLACK.LIKE. ME: Sorry for your reaction. I have the opposite. My hair is growing over night and so fast. I attribute it to the coconut oil. I must admit, however, that my hair is very dry.

Patricia Bright: Totally agree with this! I was using it on my face, hair and baby, but then she started reacting to it and I realised Coconut oil really wasn't all that. I stopped right there and then.

ConnellCrewFromCairns: I've noticed the difference between store bought coconut oil and homemade. Even if the store products claim to be 100% organic or whatever it still isn't the same. I am an islander so we make our own and it is way better and has a different effect as the store products

Ahavah “John8:32”: Hi. I really enjoy your videos. I live in the Seattle area and due the weather here I quickly go from my natural curls to crazy poof hair rather quickly. any advice on how to keep my curls through the moisture? There are plenty of natural sistas here that don't seem to have that problem. What am I doing wrong?
