THIS VIDEO IS sponsored by Chirp! :)

What'S up guys, so today we are going to get into the wonderful magic of gel placement or heavy product placement um over the many years of doing wash and go's. I realized that almost every wash my hair kind of looked different than the wash before, and i couldn't really understand why that was until very recently uh. Sometimes my hair wound up looking like this, and sometimes it wound up looking like this, and it really upset me when i couldn't really get the shape that i wanted, and i realized that the way i apply my gel or heaviest sealing cream. At the end of my wash and go either makes or breaks the shape of my hair when it dries so in today's video, i'm going to show you guys how to be in control of your hair shape. Now before we get into it. I would like to mention that this video is sponsored by a cool company named chirp. Chirp is a company that specializes in back relief and they actually have these really cool back wheels that really work out any stress and tension from the day and the wheel is actually one of the leading products in the back health and wellness community. I personally have the 10 inch medium trip wheel, which has been really cool just to roll out after the gym, since i have the back and spine of an 86 year old doorman, if you like to get your hands on your very own trip wheel, i highly Recommend it i'll have a link in my description box, for you guys and a nice discount code for you to use. Thank you so much sherp for being so cool to sponsor this video and for helping me pay some, not so cool bills. Let'S get into it all right guys, so to start off, i just want to show you what my hair looks like free of product or anything like that um i just popped in the shower washed it as usual air, dried it as usual, and this is what It'S looking like it's pretty voluminous, it is pretty layered um and you know if you've never washed your hair and let it dry in its natural state. I highly recommend that you try it time to time um it's a pain right because it gets really frizzy and naughty. I'M not gon na lie, but it's cool just to see what your hair needs. Without you know the help of any product band-aids or anything like that, so definitely try it. I love my hair this way, just as much as i love it defined. This is my rock star here man and it's really cool so yeah. I just wanted to show you guys our starting point and let's get into the gel styles. So for every demonstration i will be using a light cream conditioner, just as a leave-in for some extra moisture and all that and obviously a gel i'll, be using the og eco styler crystal gel. The first gel placement style we'll be discussing is the triangle style. Now this just means a lot less volume at the roots and a lot more volume towards the bottom, resulting in this really pretty triangular shape. This hair shape is a lot different than my regular hair shape because um, you know, my roots tend to be very. Very voluminous and my hair shape is a lot more rounded. This style frames the face so well, and it's so cute for that tuck behind the air style. I love wearing it with some cute hair, pins and barrettes and stuff like that. So i will get into how i achieve this with gel starting off with some freshly washed hair, i'm just going to go ahead and part it into a smaller section, just to make things a lot more easier. Taking that cream conditioner, we talked about and using it as a leave-in and just putting it throughout each section, evenly really focusing on my ends, making sure they're, nice and moisturized before we ever put gel. Now i'm going to take that eco styler, take about a quarter. Size amount to start off, i'm not applying pasta's point you guys, i'm applying to about eyebrow length. So now i'm just taking the gel and i'm applying it evenly, making sure i get the back. The sides again not spreading it throughout all of the hair just to my eyebrow arch, make sure you get underneath by your edges, and this is what your hair should look like again, not applying past the point we talked about, so we can get that nice triangle Effect, this is what it looks like from the back um. Don'T worry that you know your hair is in two different parts, that's just from sectioning. It won't look like that after it dries um. It kind of looks like i was wearing a hat and i took it off. That'S what you want and i will show you guys what it looks like once it dries. So, after a few hours, if they're drying, here, we are so kind of, looks like i've been wearing a helmet. So we're going to break apart. This gel cast with some hair oil and i'm just really working that in especially in to my roots and focusing a little bit on the bottom, and this is what it looks like it's so cute amazing to wear with hats or beanies love this style. So so so much, this is what it looks like up close from the top and, as you can see, it has a really nice triangular shape for reference. This is what my hair looks like with absolutely no product, and this is what it looks like using the triangle method with gel way, flatter roots, but still lots of nice volume towards the bottom. So the second hair shape we will be discussing is the rounded hair shape now, there's a lot more harmony with this hair shape, the top matches the bottom and the middle section of the hair is the widest part resulting in this really pretty rounded shape. This is kind of how i usually um, like my wash and goes to look for the most part and how they turn out on. You know on a regular basis, but i'm going to show you guys how to fake this with using gel once again. So, starting off with our leave-in once again, we're just going to apply that evenly throughout all sections making sure our hair is nice and moisturized. Then we're going to take our gel and take a quarter size amount once again, but really focus it towards the ends of right. Here, we're going to move it up a little bit, but not quite to the middle, just really pack, the gel. On the end. It'S okay, if it looks straggly we're going to take care of that after it dries next you're going to want to move towards your bang area. That part is super duper important, because you want everything to look super cohesive, and this is what it looks like once. I am done applying. It is very scraggly looking as you can see from the back, but you can see that there's a lot more volume at the top, which is what we want so after it dries. This is what it looks like. As you can see. It'S still very stringy looking, but the shape is there, so we're going to take our oil one more time and just really really scrunch out that gel cast towards the bottom, and this is what it looks like a super, pretty rounded hair shape. I love for my wash and goes turn out this way and just for reference once again. This is what my hair looks like with the triangle method, and this is what my hair looks like with the rounded method on the left. So the final look we'll be discussing is the elongated wet. Look. I'Ve been doing this look all summer long. It is so cute so feminine and it really brings out your features so nicely um, i feel like this is something everyone should try. At least once i didn't like it for a very long time, because i thought you know, i looked goofy with this style, but over time it really grew on me. Okay, so we're splitting our hair down the middle as always, and then we're gon na take our leave-in conditioner and apply it very, very, very generously. Then we're gon na take our gel and also apply our gel very generously and instead of applying it as a hole. We'Re going to apply it into each section, always get your roots as well to make sure they're, nice and weighed down. This is what one side looks like, and this is what it looks like after i'm done with both sides. Then i just like to push my hair out of my face. Then i take my hair scarf and i tie it around my head and i kind of just let it sit like that um until it is done drying and after it's done drying. This is what it looks like when it is dry well like 80 dry, but it still came out very, very nice. I actually didn't do my edges for this video, i'm trying to not. You know put too much product on my edges anymore, when i don't have to so boom. Comparing contrasting time on the left is the rounded look and on the right is the elongated, but look my hair does look a lot longer. A lot shinier, but i personally like my volume, so this is probably going to stay a summer style if you happen to make it to the end of this video. Thank you so much for watching. I hope you can take one style from this vid and incorporate it into your daily routine. I appreciate you guys so so much. I will never stop saying that. Thank you for all of your love and support through the years. Man can't wait for the next one and until then signing off i'll see you guys later.

Laurscurls: Heyyyy if you’re still a bit new to this wash & go thing, here’s a few more helpful tips I wish someone told me before I cried in front of the mirror for hours :) • if your ends are bone straight, just cut your hair man. Don’t hold onto it, it’s not worth it, & it’ll save you from many frustrated ugly mirrors cries. • if you want a more voluminous wash and go, style with lighter hair products and maybe skip out on the gel (*con*) doesn’t last as long / tends to get frizzy after 2-3 days • if you want a more defined / weighed down / elongated wash and go, style with heavier products (like thick creams and butters) and gels (*con*) less volume, lots of product buildup • it’s okay to experiment! everyone’s hair is different, maybe you don’t like any of the styles mentioned in this video, but you can create your own :) dedicate some time to just go crazy • rinsing your curls with cold water helps a lot with frizz! I mean ALOT. If you don’t like cold showers, just bend your head over the stream. • layers are your friend. Layers bring endless possibilities, lots of volume, and so much depth. If you haven’t already, invest in a cool haircut! (You know if you want.)

Ivy Merritt: You. Are. A. GENIUS!!! I had NO idea you could get such a difference in your hair's shape by the way you concentrated where the gel went! Now I know why my wash and gos didn't look right! Thank you so much for posting this video!!!

Kylah Thompson: I don’t think you know what you just did. Minutes before finding this video I was on the phone with my mom saying I wanted a haircut because I want to improve my hair shape, but I just recreated the rounded look with your tips and I love that. No scissors necessary! You are doing the lords work!!!!

Nct-candy: Timestamps 1. The triangle 2:45 2.rounded 5:49 3. The wet look 7:53

Melissa Medici: The elongated wet look is what I've been doing this entire summer, the important factor is the head scarf it makes a difference. Love your content!

Lyn R: To say that your hair is beautiful, is an understatement.

Symone Lewis: As someone with fine hair I can’t WAIT to try the rounded look for my wash day tomorrow

nova: honestly, i just need the confidence to let my hair look big. im so used to weighing it down to make it look as small & ‘’straight’’ as possible. anyway, thank you for this video, i’ll be using these tips!!! :))

jeffsycks: Your natural hair, with no product in it is SO BEAUTIFUL!!! I LOVE the FULNESS, the CURL, the LENGTH, the CUT, the SHAPE, the WAY IT MOVES!!! I am so in love with your hair. And you! ❤️❤️

Fidaus: Definitely trying this out. Have the same struggle figuring out why my hair looked different after every wash and go

Lidabear: I’m definitely an elongated wet look person. But I was trying to figure out how to do a different style and almost considered cutting my hair. Thank you for the tips!

sophia o: This whole time I wondered why my daughter ended up with the "long wet hair" look lol thank you so much, will be trying the other methods for sure

Reignfall: Your day 1 no product hair is SO BEAUTIFUL. Definitely my inspiration to keep growing out my hair.

Porsha Doll: I wondered why my hair would come out looking different sometimes, this explains it. Also helps me to know how to place my gel for the look I want thanks!

Aigne French: this video is a goldmine. i personally do all of these styles but my favorite is the triangle. and i love how you didn’t downplay the triangle shape. ✨

nibabi: These are great tips! I’ve been natural since 2003 and I realize I was clueless. I typically have the wet long look and just refer to it as first day hair. I have to wait a few days to get rounded look. I will try new method next wash.

luisanny mercado: okay but like this had to have taken FOREVER! the patience you show in this video, i could never. also you hair is so pretty when its dry without product! ✨

Rori: Definitely will be applying the rounded look technique because my roots tend to be heavy. Thanks for the tips gorgeous!

Sarah Marikh: I know this video isn’t about what I’m going to say but you really helped me out with a problem I was having!! My ends always looked so ‘stringy’ after applying gel and I hated it. You telling that you use an oil after drying helped me SO MUCH with this issue!! THANK YOU ❤️ God bless you

Sophia Reilly: I’m white with two white parents, my hair it’s very similar to yours and you are saving my hair from becoming a giant frizzy ball on top of my head and I thank you for that

Ether D.: My hair grows into the “rounded” shape naturally, I never use gel and I’m excited to give this a shot.

mya 125: She explained this wonderfully I personally love the rounded look, apparently I do it all the time without even realizing it ☠️ definitely coming back to this video whenever I want to do the wet look/triangle

Ariane X: she really just taught me what i needed to know these past 27 years in 10 minutes.

April Chow-chee: This is crazy genius. Unbelievable. Now I know the reason why my wash and go come out looking different everytime.

iEE: omg this is soooo important!!!! I've always felt bad about my hair, because people looked good and knew how to style their hair in different ways and they looked amazing in it. And i would try, and i looked very weird. Started taking care of my hair and trying new styles, girl, I've been getting compliments all the time!

Merlene: Omg I LOVE the wet look! I’m definitely going to be doing it come next summer. Having your hair big like that in the summer is a nightmare

sav: You're a genius!!! While my hair isn't as curly as yours, that third option is something I've been wanting to achieve for so long! I thought it was impossible, and that I could only get that weighed down look when it's soaking wet so excited to try it, THANK YOU SO MUCH

Jeannine De: Love this, it’s crazy cause I was realizing that my hair came out very differently and I was focused on how I was brushing my hair but never thought about how the gel application changed it

Mango Lima: This is one of the most informative videos I've ever seen! I can't wait to try the second method out. But I have a question: would diffusing ruin it? Would I have to do it in a specific way? My hair would be frizzy and with no volume at all otherwise.

Williams Oletu: Omg your hair is gorgeous I’m still going through my hair journey and I’m going to start subscribing because it looks like you know what your doing

Emily Castillo: This was such a nice video! I’m sure it took a lot of work but this is so informative and helpful. Love it!

Journee Rodgers: i remembered that i had this video in my watch later, so i watched it right before i washed my hair today to test it out. my hair came out perfectly!! it was round how i like it and super defined. i always avoided wash n gos because they didn’t give me this effect so thank you for posting this!

Leah McLean Tewari: This is a very helpful tutorial! Thank you for explaining and showing us! I have always done the wet look. But now that I know, I’m going to try the other styles. The rounded looks amazing! ❤️

Nadia George: Honestly that’s awesome all the things u can do with ur hair just from styling. That’s one big advantage of curly hair, you have a large variety of styles you can choose from. I have straight hair but I’m gonna watch this whole video

Tara America: I’m so glad I found this video! I’ve been so frustrated with my hair - to the point that I considered detransitioning from natural. This is so helpful ❤️

Emi Noelle: thank you SOOOO MUCH for showing different lengths and textures in the examples. This helps a lot!!! Also lovveeee ur videos.

AquaSun: wow! I think you just changed entire my life!  I did a big chop 2 years ago, I decided to take my hair growth seriously this year after last year I had traction alopecia from high buns.  I've been heat-free for 1 year now and my curls are flourishing. I had trouble creating looks I've wanted while trying to grow it longer. this definitely fixes my worries and anxiety. Can't wait to try this out!  THANK YOU AGAIN! THIS IS SO RESEARCHED AND EXPLAINED PERFECTLY.

Christa: Thanks for this video! I've been natural for years now, but I always wear my hair is twists and twist outs, because I've had bad luck with wash-n-gos. I'm going to give this a try and see how it looks! I like the first look best.

Dorinis Baldera: I’ve been doing the triangle and wet look so much I forgot how to do the round look. Thank you for the refresher!

S. Camacho: You’re changing the world with this information! No longer will curly hair people feel inferior to straight hair people. We all know that straight hair people love this kind of styling… and so do we lol ❤

Mary Landa: I love this - I’m trying to learn how to style my hair & for a beginner this was perfect! Also, your editing is top-tier!

kokogirlycurly: Can any of these looks work for 4a type hair, because this shrinkage seems to be giving me only the basic Afro or rounded (i guess) look. And I wanna try some new looks with my hair. Plus love your videos !!! ❤️

MiVidaBellisima: The key to the rounded look is to have layers giving your curls a round shape

A H: I had NO idea I was mostly doing the rounded look which I personally don’t like on me. I need to try the other two. Thank you! This video was extremely helpful!

Georgina Arroyo: I needed this so badly! I got so sucked into curly hair styling tips that say do not put gel or heavy products near roots and I kept getting the rounded look - even though I like the triangle! Off to style my hair right now!

Alaa Ehab: I love this video! I've only ever seen this information in social media post format so it's good to see it all put together and explained thoroughly on this platform :) if i would add anything to the information mentioned i would say that not only is gel placement important but the "HOLD" of the gel and the "APPLICATION METHOD" of the gel is also very very important!! For example, another way to achieve the rounded look with minimal frizz you could use a "medium" or "light" hold gel and apply it all throughout the hair, but the trick here would be mostly in the application method! So instead of just applying and working the gel using our hands we could take a brush (i love ones that look similar to the denman brush) and use that to evenly distribute the product, now after that comes the styling part, where u'll take small sections of the hair and brush them AWAY from the scalp. This will help create definition with minimal amounts of frizz in the hair , if one wants more volume in some place they could do two things: separate the curl clumps after they have dried to create more individual curls, or they could pick the roots! I hope everyone grows to love and care for their curly hair <3

CloverIsDivine: Thank you so much for this video I’ve been wearing wash n go’s exclusively since I got a curly haircut 2 years ago but I hadn’t figured out what I was doing differently when I got these results. Now, I have options! It’s not just a roll of the dice anymore!

daelysuxu: thank you so much, i just tried the elongated wet look but i think its shrinking back to my natural triangle/rounded shape do you have some more tips on how to not make it shrink ? also, my hair doesnt dry with the head scarf on, but the part thats not covered does, is that normal

Eiko Kawano: After two years of transitioning to my natural hair, I followed your tips and it finally, finally did what I always wanted it to. THANK you - I would never have thought to place gel strategically. This is the best advice I’ve found!

r3ignat: This is totally gonna help me with my curly hair! Thank you so, so, so much for this video! Definitely gonna try this out with my hair

radnads: This was SUPER HELPFUL thank you I’m slowly getting my dreads out and it’s been 5 years since I’ve had my fro so I’m relearning all this stuff to get prepared

Liev X: So glad I found this. I've been frustrated with my hair; I want to grow it longer, but I hate the shape of it and wanna cut it so bad. Part of it is because I'm growing out an undercut and side shaves, and part is damage due to bleach and color. I don't know what to do with it anymore, I'm at the end of my rope. This video is truly what I needed. I'm gonna try these out and see what works best for me and my messed up hair. Thank you for making this, you're a lifesaver

YellDrLawyer: Oh my goodness I was always wondering why my hair was so inconsistent. I thought I was going it the same each time but now that you’ve pointed this stuff out I can see how and why I get those variations Thank you so much

Sophia w: i’ve litterally been dying to know why every time i wash my hair the hair volume/ style changes even though i put in the same products, i’m so happy i came across this video

bezaitmg: I honestly never understood why my hair would look so different everytime using the same products. But I'm gonna pay attention to how I apply my gel and which kind of shape I like now ! I honestly didn't think i had the type of hair that I could do the wet hair down look with but I'm excited to see and try it out ! Thank you for this !

Fatma: This is such a cool concept and I can’t wait to try the rounded look tips as i always struggle for extra volume. Here’s to Lauren getting more lucrative sponsorship because you are an awesome human. Hugs from London❤️

Katie Kat: This really is changing the game for me. My hair is never consistent. Sometimes my hair is the biggest and most defined and bouncy without product or it’s frizzy and undefined. With product it varies between big, defined, flat, random frizzy pieces, etc. Not to mention my hair drying, splitting and cycling through different haircuts to try and find what gives me the look I want and not being fully satisfied. I’m gonna try this and really see what’s up.

nrflow14: I love your hair! I’m definitely going to try these styles out when my hair is longer.

CELINE ADOBEA: Yeees I love that you love your hair in its natural state too I’ve been rocking my hair au natural since my buzz 4 years ago, keeping it simple with shampoo and conditioners

belle: AHHHH THIS IS AMAZING! The same thing happened with my hair and I didn’t know why it always looked different but now I have some control haha!

Life With Amdi: I always tend to do the elongated wet look , it looks better on day 2/3 when I’ve got more volume

Chloë Jeffries: THHANNNNKKK YOOUUUU your honesty the best Laura!!! Your hair tips have really helped me with my hair growth journey!! Your amazing and I cannot wait to watch more of your content!!! ❤️ number one fan right here Im soo happy I found your channel tbh my wash and goes hair style is usually the "rounded shape" thats my go to hairstyle but since I've seen your different "gel styles" cannot wait to try it on my hair!!!

Anita D: Can't wait to try the rounded look!! ❤️. Had no idea I should be paying attention to gel placement! Thank you!

ɳαყ♡: i literally love your videos so much your tips have helped me make my hair healthier, longer and smell amazing!❤️

𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫.: The fact you can do this with shorter hair makes me even happier! Thank you so much :)

Haniwa: I absolutely love this! I never would've thought that placement drastically changes the shape of your style, GENIUS *chefs kiss*

Olivia: Omigosh. I can’t wait to try these. I had no idea what to do with my hair but Imma try the cream you use and the gel methods too! You have a very similar hair type to me so I’m soooooo excited Also- question (hope you see this) my curls are way more defined less frizzy in the front but the top of my head and back of my hair is always frizzy and not as defined- does that mean it needs more attention- like care and product?

Isabella: THANK YOU! My hair is extremely curly and coming from am all white family (myself included) nobody knew how to handle my hair and nobody could teach me! I am so glad I found your channel! Thank you beautiful!!!❤

Telea Marie: This is my new favorite curl video! I’ve always wondered why I got different shapes… Now, I know. Thank you so much!! Also, I was wondering if you have any anti frizz techniques? In particular, my front hairs are pretty straight or barely waves and instantly frizzes (the hair that would make a bang if I cut it).

Josefine Vesterlund: ”Styling technique” is more important than the actual products sometimes!

Gwendolyn Hawkins-Lynch: All these years of being natural... NEVER thought to do this. Now I am curious to see what my hair will do. Thank YOU!

zahra hashemy: Thank you for all the cool styles <3 . I'm new to the gel game, how long after putting in a gel do you need to wash it out and start fresh?

lavender1rose: Thank you so much for this video! It’s informative and engaging too! I can’t wait to experiment with gel placement in my own hair

Mercedes Price: This is really helpful. I've never even considered placement on certain parts of my hair vs others.

Junior Chaves o Picasso de Yahushua: You are absolutely stunning. Your beauty takes my breath away. Just... Simply gorgeous!

Jada: Just subscribed :) First off everything about this video was perfect. Been wanting to try out the wet look but wasn’t aware that there were so many possibilities with shaping using gel so thank you! Also your voice is so calm which makes it so easy to watch the entire video. Glad this popped up :)

jaylaa /;: Yet again, you’re out here doing the looks work

Nicole Nunez Cuevas: this is an amazing video. i have always done the rounded look for my hair because i don’t think the other ones would compliment me. but i just have one question, did you do all of these looks on the same day or did you just record different days with the same clothes on

Ariana Z: This deserves a lot more views ❤❤ Thanks for this video, and your hair is so beautiful :)

Artemisa Reyes: This is such a good video my hair be on triangle but I wanna get it more rounded so this is perfect, thank you!!

Kim L: OH MY GOSH!! Thank you so so so much!! Tried this today and my hair is exactly how I wanted!

TatjanaDidWhat: The elongated wet look is my fav to do on myself.

zeep belletjes: Wow, your voice is so soothing and love love love the big curls too! I'm growing my hair out from a buzz cut and can't wait to have my curls back!

Adriana Lisitza: You have gorgeous hair. Everything you do looks amazing but I love it in its product-less state too. It is a glorious halo.

Magdalena Bielecki: OMG! First time here, I'm just wondering how it's possible for one person to have SO. MUCH. HAIR :D Amazing tips, will try the rounded look on my next wash day. Thanks for sharing :)

Sarae Garcia: i’m so dumbfounded i FINALLY AFTER 19 YEARS FOUND SOMEONE WITH THE exact hair like mine… THANK YOU

Daejah ♡: Thank you so much! I usually do the rounded style unintentionally but I've been looking for a method that is less voluminous and more lengthy to persevere length! tysm! I hope it works for me :)

Peachiyaa: Finally someone preachin, I been doin this shit for a while. I just love changing up my hair but I always find it hard to with curly hair can’t straighten or color it without big damage. But I could always switch up the shape by parting it different or not parting it at all or sleeping with it a different way. ^^

Daymickey: I would never have thought to NOT put gel on my entire head! I’m going to definitely give this a try’

Koda Grey: I’m definitely going to try the rounded style! Thank you so much!

Seni Rania: I like your approach of showing how to achieve different shapes. Usually curly videos and articles are like, "You WANT to avoid the triangle." But...sometimes the triangle fits? This video is just so positive and helpful.

Wes: I usually go for the elongated wet look :), thank you for this video !

BelaRuz: I wanna do all these especially the wet look but I'm scared the gel might leave weird flakes in my hair

Znala Williams: Thank you so much for this! Just started using gel on my curls and wondered why I would get different results!!!

Christina Coltrane: Your scarf is so cute! You and your hair are gorgeous, thank you for the content! I love the wet look and rounded look for my hair, the triangle shape always looks terrible on me

Kenya Thibodeaux: i have recently been playing with gel placement in my hair! can’t wait to try new styles

Daniella CSEC CXC SCIENCES: Despite the fact that I can't copy your methods exactly as is because out curls are completely different. i'm a 4b-4c. I like the general idea of applying more gel to distinct spots where you want less volume. I already try tying my hair down tightly at the top while it dries (with product) to get a more reserved look with less volume. And it does work a bit. So I will definitely be trying to be more strategic with how i apply gel and see the results I get. If i'm able to get any distinctly different shapes or looks i'll try to snap a pic and post it in the comments so that the 4c-a girls can see how it worked.

Mari: loved your video! I haven't seen anyone else discuss it! <3 much love and success to you queen.

Miriam: This video is so great... I would love to do the rounded look...but when I don't put gel on the top of my hair, I feel like it gets just too frizzy... There would be a huge difference between the frizzy top and defined ends. Does anyone have tips for that? Right now I'm wearing box braids anyways, but when I take them out, I wish I could achieve a bomb wash and go and maybe the rounded shape

Aïda H: I love the wet look. I have shorter hair so I miss my length. But looking at those other pics of the round shape, it may not look that bad after all
