--- Why Do I Rinse The Oil Out? ---

A popular question I get! I love using oils on my hair, but don't like the greasiness it can sometimes cause. Rinsing a bit of the oil out after application, helps rid my hair of the greasy residue, leaving my hair super soft and moisturized. Just like when you're cooking and get olive oil on your hands. If you rinse the olive oil off, your hands are no longer greasy, but feel super soft instead! *I only do this on stretched styles. For Wash&Go styles, the additional oils are necessary, but will show in another video.

--- What Happened to Water Only Washing? ---

Another question I envision getting! I discussed why I stopped the "water only washing" experiment in one of my older videos a few months after I stopped. It was around the time I was going through health issues, and I mentioned that the sebum in my scalp had slowed down production and my scalp and hair were becoming extremely dry. So at that point, I had to stop w.o.w. and go back to using products! My scalp is back to normal now, but I'm not in the mood to do any more experimentations! :)))

Sup guys don't be alarmed, I didn't cut my hair. This is just shrinkage, we didn't stretch it or anything today, I'm just kind of letting it do what it wants to do, and it's open a little puff here. Today'S gon na be a video all about how I wash my hair, my complete routine right after I pre poop, so you guys haven't seen my pre-poo video. It just means pre shampoo. So it's how I conditioned and prep my hair before I wash it. It'S not necessary, it's just really really helpful. It strengthens my hair, it moisturizes it and it gets it ready for the shampoo process. It doesn't dry it out too much. So if you guys are interested in that, I will post a link to my current pre-poo, which is amazing in the description box, for you guys to check out how I do that, so the videos gon na start off the next day after I pre poo, because I like to sleep in my pre-poo and then the next day I will wash my hair, and I also want to mention too, that you don't have to do what I'm doing in this video. This is literally just what I like to do. Maybe if you liked it, you can try it, but you don't have to if you guys want a really fast routine. I'M gon na also link my 25-minute co-wash in the description box. This gets me in and out of the shower in 25 minutes, and it works really really well, so I'm going to share what I've been doing to get my hair soup, goodness so soft, so soft, and it feels so good. I want to do a close-up look at this hair. You guys I love this routine. I really hope that you guys enjoy it. I will see you after the video, so this is the next day after I pre poot overnight. Now you can actually leave this pre poo in your hair if you need to sometimes when I get really busy I'll, wash it out 2 or 3 days later, so it's really flexible. So I'm wetting my hair completely, getting it as soaked as possible. I'M gon na grab my DIY a black soap shampoo and that recipe is linked in the description box, and I apply this to my scalp only I like washing my hair and twist now, because it helps me focus the shampoo only on my scalp. You really don't need as much shampoo on your ends as you do on your scalp there's, not as much product build-up. So it's been best for me to initially focus a shampoo only on my scalp at this point so that my ends don't dry out too much. It also helps my hair stay relatively detangled in the process, so working the shampoo into my scalp, and I also give myself a nice little massage while I'm working it in now that my scalp is nice, and this is when I take out my twists. I take out my twist now to make sure that, while I'm rinsing the shampoo out the soapy water travels all the way down and off of my hair, making sure that no product build-up gets trapped. This also guarantees that the shampoo is able to hit all of my hair strands and ends as it passes on through giving them a nice and mild cleansing, which is really all they need. So I'm rinsing all that shampoo and dirt off of my scalp and hair. Now I'm gon na grab a really slippery conditioner to make sure that my hair is super detangled. You guys know that I love Trader Joe's tea tree tingle, but I recently decided to try the giovani conditioner and I know I'm super late to this one, but I decided to give it a try and it is amazing I still like them both, but I'm gon Na have to go with the Giovanni for this one definitely a bit more moisturizing, so I'm working that in from ends to roots and make sure to cover your whole head with it. Now I'm gon na start to tangling one side at a time making a nice clean part, and this helps to reduce breakage on my hair. While I'm detangling, I get to work on that section: finger detangling under the water for added slip and weights when the section is completely to tangle to rinse that conditioner out and now we're gon na add our deep conditioning treatment. My current favorite is still the Shea moistures high porosity masque, so I'm gon na add whoop. I'M gon na apply that to my hair from ends to roots, and you don't have to worry too much about to tangling, since you already did making sure you get the ends nice and covered and moisturized. Now I just twist the section up and wrap it into a bantu knot to get it out of the way now grab another large section and repeat the same thing: making a nice clean part to help reduce breakage. I'M finger detangling, my hair under the water and when you're all detangle to rinse that conditioner out and we're gon na add our deep conditioning treatment. Applying it from ends to roots, make sure they're really working into your ends twist the section up and wrap it into a bantu knot to get it out of the way repeating the exact same thing to the last section, and the first side is complete. Now repeat the same as that process to the other side outside the shower, I'm gon na unravel my bench nut, so my twists can hang freely and I'm covering my head with two plastic caps. I like to use two just to make sure my whole head is covered, so no he can escape or liquids or anything like that. Now, one of my favorite things that I've added to my routine is my hot head heat cap. This cap really helps to intensify my deep conditioning treatment. I just heated up in the microwave and put it on, so I just leave this on my hair for about 30 to 45 minutes. So, admittedly, the worst part of this entire process is having to get back into the shower after you've already dried yourself off, but it's worth it to allow the deep conditioner to work its magic. So I deal with it. I'M telling you when I take off my plastic hat, my hair is so soft. I'M gon na clip one side out of the way and working one twist at a time. I rinse out all that deep, conditioner and check out that moisture and definition. Next, I like to balance my hairs pH with aloe vera juice, so just spray that all over the section, this also helps close the hairs cuticle to help trap in that moisture, along with a million other things. Aloe is great for my hair and body oil. Yep still using that I'm applying enough to coat my hair from ends to roots, then I do a quick like super fast rinse under the water just to get that top layer of greasy oil off okay. So everything is nice and sealed. In the last step, which I never used to do is applying a leave-in, what yeah I used to hate leavin until I decided to try this one. I found this at my local Sally's. It'S the three-in-one conditioner from Maine choice that you can also use as a leave-in, so applying a bit from ends to roots, really making sure those ends are covered and protected. Again, I quickly wet my hair under the water just to rinse a little bit of his leave-in out of my hair, so it's not too heavy. This also helps me to smooth my roots down. I twist all the way to the ends and then wrap it into a bantu knot to keep it out of the way grab another twist and repeat the same process on twists. Rinse, the deep conditioner out coat the hair with aloe vera juice seal it all in with the DIY hair and body oil from ends to roots. A quick rinse under the water will remove that top greasy layer of oil. Making your hair, nice and soft apply your leave-in from ends to roots, give your hair a quick rinse once more to remove the excess product and smooth your roots. Then twist the section up and wrap it into a bantu knot. Repeat this process on that last twist and when the first half is complete, do the same thing for the second half and that's it clean hydrated and moisturized hair. Here'S a quick look after I get out the shower! You can see how shiny and soft my hair looks and it feels amazing super fluffy, moisturized and shrunken, and from here you can just style your hair. However, you like so this is the next day I didn't do anything to my hair after the twist. I just wrapped each twist around my head and pinned it in place and let it dry overnight. My hair was not completely dry when I woke up because it was super moisturized. So we have a good amount of shrinkage, but I don't mind the shrinkage. It is cute, this is probably the best my hair has ever felt ever like, even when my hair was super long. This is the most moisture, as it's ever felt so hope. This video helped, and I will see you guys in the next video

Naptural85: NEW Video is Up!! "My Simple Wash Day Routine 2017 | Moisturized Natural Hair" I hope you enjoy!! Oh, and I placed all the links needed for recipes, etc... as well as some ADDITIONAL info you may be wondering, in the description box! Hope it helps! XO!! ❤️

emylishepherd84: Am i the only one who doesn't get back in the shower to rinse my deep conditioner? I just rinse in the bathroom or kitchen sink. It's a lot easier.

Chandra_Michelle: Also, it seems like you've really been embracing your shrinkage and it's really inspiring. It's something I've really been struggling with. Thank you for all you do, Whit!

Darelle Harris: You have just ended my search for products that ACTUALLY HELP MY HAIR!!! And this is a damn near 20 year search. These products and your routine are clutch. I did EVERYTHING. Aloe/water juice, Giovanni conditioner, Shea High Porosity, and oil. My hair has NEVER felt better. I used to rinse my hair EVERY SINGLE DAY to "hydrate" it. But it would be crunchy again by noon, and eventually breaking off (I live in Arizona - very dry climate). Your method has saved my life. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!!

shante edwards: Your hair looks super healthy! So full, thick, shiny, and springy

Dante Sperry: Whitney you inspired me to go natural almost a year ago now and I'm loving it!!!

Anitra Jones: Followed your exact routine & my hair was soooo soft & hydrated afterwards! I wish I would’ve done a before and after video ! I’m so In love with this routine! Thanks so much.

queretana20: I absolutely love this new routine! The concept of leaving the hair in twists while shampooing: stroke of pure genius! For us thick haired girls with hair that can easily tangle, that step is a must! Can't wait to employ that in wash day. Thanks for the tips! You're the best!

najah7791: Your hair cooperates with you soooo well ! My hair be like NO GIRL NOT TODAY!

DiscoveringNatural: Quick tip: Instead of getting back into the shower to rinse the deep conditioner off, just get a bucket fill with water and rinse, or you can use your sink. My daughter shows how to do this in a video she did called "9 year old WASHES and STYLES" her hair. This also saves A LOT OF WATER.. LOL! Much love!

Tesia Kwarteng.: I washed my hair today using the method and my hair came out bomb! I was already using the mane choice leave it but I added the aloe vera juice to my routine and pre poo and I love it! Thanks so much keep on being you! ❤️

fattysl26: Your pre-poo routine with aloe vera is a total game changer! My hair loveddddd it, it was so moisturised and there was way less shedding.

Robbbaseee: Lovin the updated routine! I also noticed the 6 steps process clearly listed towards the end of the vid..makes it even easier to follow and apply. Thanks for continuing to do what you do!❤️and the pregnancy has you GLOWING

Grace: I did this along with the pre-poo and omg this has been the easiest wash I have ever done! The pre-poo worked beautifully. And the wash was super easy even with all the steps because my hair was so moisturized after the pre-pp. Love you!

Keyana Jay: Your curls were beautiful from start to finish. You and MiniMarley definitely keep me going w. my natural hair lifestyle

Tannika Jadoo: I love watching your videos. I watched your videos for a few months while transitioning and then decided to big chop 5 months ago. You inspire me. Now I get compliments on my hair from trying your routines. I tell them to watch your videos. Thanks for this one. I'll definitely be doing this on wash day. I tried and LOVE the prepoo by the way. Will become my wash routine. Thanks again hair goal

Lydia: Your hair is thriving! So healthy looking and shiny and full of life *_* I've been transitioning for almost 19 months now, I'm trying to push for 2 years... but it's videos like this that give me the urge to big chop right now I can't wait to be fully natural

Rume Diam: Hi Whitney! (Love your videos btw❤) I had a 2 quick questions for you and anybody else who is able to help: I've been transitioning for about 2 1/2 years now and your wash routine looks awesome but I needed to know: 1. how often do you deep condition and add the aloe vera to your hair? is it every wash or once in a while? 2. I still have like 2 inches of relaxed hair on my ends and I'm not able to rock my curls with confidence since it looks super ratty and awkward at the end but my stylist doesn't want to cut it yet because it'll be uneven in the back, there any way or hairstyle you recommend for fixing that? I have twists in right now but I'm getting them taken down in a few weeks. Hopefully this all doesn't sound too much or too confusing, Thanks for all the help!❤

ttjewel: Whitney, I just finished doing the aloe Vera prepoo in my hair tonight. I can't wait to try your new wash routine tomorrow! Many thanks! ❤️

KKO: I love you Naptural85! You inspire me to wear my hair natural, and teach me how to take care of my hair! Growing long hair is hard and takes a long time! But you make it easier and better! That's why I said without you, my hair journey would have been a lot harder and very frustrating! So I would like to say Thank You! (Can't wait to see more of your incredible videos!)

JJ OJ: Awww, the pregnancy mommy glow you have is *REAL*. Love it!

Saley Duncan: Your methods have really been working for me. I never use oils and I decided to try to seal with oil (castor and avocado) and rinse a little out , add the leave in after and my hair is still moisturized and soft and shiny even after a week--which was impossible for me before. I love all of your videos! Thank you :)

Jazmin Jordan: Amazing routine, Whitney! I have normal to low porosity 3c medium density hair. I'm still figuring out how to make sure my hair is properly moisturized from root to tip, because my roots end up frizzy & puffy when I style my hair. I use the LCO method on my hair after deep conditioning and shampooing.

Heather Miller: This literally looks like it took forever to do, but I'm going to do it! I've never tried one of your tutorials and had it NOT work out, and I have 4C hair! I love you girl!

Moya Williams: I've struggled with my natural hair for 7 years now but I never gave up. I finally decided to put my head down and start treating my hair right so naturally I turned to your videos because Ive been following you for some time now and within a month of following your tips and tricks I've seen such a difference in the health of my hair. Thanks for basically following your dreams and continuing your videos even when people tried to put you down or discourage you

Joy Webb: I just tried this routine and I LOVE IT!!! My hair was always dry but not anymore...thank you

Alyssa Pearson: Love this so much! My hair hasn't been feeling at its healthiest lately and I'm excited to try this+pre-poo! How often are you incorporating this washing routine into your hair care regime?

Tanika H: Giovanni Conditioners, YASS! I've been natural for 3 years but this video and the pre-poo helps to create a more set routine for my hair. Love it, thanks!

Monet E: Thank you so much for this wash routine. I tried it out today and my hair feels amazing. I have 4c,4b hair and this is the first time I've ever seen my hair completely defined

rlu350: OMG!!!! I did this routine and it has totally changed my hair. This is what I have been looking for. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise

Izzy_the_Savage: I absolutely love you !!!! You helped me in my natural hair journey 7 years ago and I haven't looked back since!!! I have made every single product you showed us and I am currently rocking the protein sensitive deep conditioner as my pre poo because my hair is super dry and then on to my wash and go ... the African black shampoo, oils and conditioners having been amazing!!!!!!!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Jennifer Stokes: First of all, I love your videos. I really enjoy how informative you are! I have been watching you for at least 3 years. I finally cut my relaxed ends a year ago. I love my natural hair! I have very thick hair just like you, but you always make it look so easy. Btw...your hair looks beautiful!!!

geegeethree: I just followed this process as closely as I could and just finished twisting up my hair. I can’t...stop...touching...my...hair!!! Thank you for sharing your wisdom and learnings!

Hey J whats next: This is soooo awesome. Thanks you Whitney for sharing your technique. The part that I noticed that makes my hair super soft is your technique of spraying the aloe vera juice and adding the oil and then rinsing quickly (makes it so soft) then adding the leave-in and quickly rinse. It comes out so super soft.

Narousse R: Whitney, I just have to tell you that you are appreciated here. I love watching your videos over and over and over lol. You have helped me figure out my hairs true form :-) thank you love

Lorna Crystal: This video along with the products, recipes, and instructions have really really help me get unstuck with my damaged dry natural hair. Before i saw this video i was ready to give up on natural hair. Thank you so much!! You are a gem

maya sykes: I tried this yesterday and it works so nicely! I love this routine!

Stacy Achan: YAY I have been waiting for this video. I love your current pre poo routine. My hair was so soft and my curls were super defined.

stayfly3000: Hi Whitney! Just wanted to pop in and say that pre-poo method changed my life (well, my wash day anyway)! For those may not have access to the aloe vera plant, I tried it with Fruit of the Earth 100% AV Gel and still had amazing results.

Mish - Simple Beauty Secrets RevealedTM: You inspired me to go natural about 5 years ago! Thank you so much for everything! :)

BLUESTAR WIFEY: Wow!! Thank you for taking the time to do this video. It’s very detailed. I have been searing for a new wash/moisturizing routine and I am definitely trying this for me and my daughters. Thank you!

Hazel Goddesss: I just wanna know how people's water don't get cold doing all of this in the shower lol.

Salem B: Wow, I totally believe that's the most moisturized your hair has ever been. Looks incredible! Can't wait to try this when I take out my braids this weekend

Salomey Doku: The only vídeo I needed to see. Thank you! I've been watching your vids for ages now, since around 2010 when I started my hair journey, and though life got crazy with uni, and I stopped looking after my hair really well, you're that one YouTuber I just keep coming back to because I know your videos are so helpful and clear, simple and uncomplicated to get me back in track to a healthy head of hair. You're like my family that I never met in person haha! Health is the most important thing & I will get there so I thank you Whitney! Lots of love from this British chick xx

Jae & Zoey's VLOGS: Thanks for this, I can't wait until my hair is this long Mines is touching my collar done but the shrinkage is so real Oh & Congrats on the new baby

Crissy Pooh: Hey Whitney! How long does this process usually take you? From prepoo to completed twists my routine is roughly 3hrs depending on how tired I am lol.

Pepper-Anne Cakes: I have been subscribed and watching your videos for about two years now, and I never comment, but I just wanted to say, you and your hair are beautiful, and so is your family! Congrats on your pregnancy!

JaiProdz: Yes I missed this type of video! Also for anyone who doesn't have Aloe Vera, try Apple Cider Vinegar (1-2 drops in a spray bottle|) for ph balance/ hair and other benefits!

Gnastydasavage: So beautiful And I've been waiting for this yes! The pre-poo worked so well ☺️

Jasmine Egleston: LOVE LOVE LOVE your complete wash routine!!! My hair and scalp especially feels so much better than even when I get it washed at the salon. Instead of the DIY African black soap shampoo i used one from Shea moisture’s just cause I couldn’t buy all the products for the DIY one when i needed to wash my hair but it still worked great! I will definitely try the DIY one one day!

Katherine Adeyemi: Thank you so much for the videos! I've been trying different methods with my daughters hair for years and your videos have finally given solution. I also like all your DIY recipes for shampoo, oil, etc. thanks for keeping us informed! Excellent!!

Denise Oforiwah: Wow your *HAIR* is so beautiful and healthy! :) Love it in the shrinkage stage as well.

Rise Above: Hello Naptural85!!! I watched your pre-poo, then the wash!!! I am SOOO inspired. I have 4C hair & am struggling to keep it moisturized. I’m going to try the aloe and the Black African DIY shampoo. Also, what do you think of using Aztec Bentonite clay as a lock-in method? What about using Rosemary oil as part of a routine? Thank you so much! ❤️

Senait Tewolde: your hair looks so healthy and moist, i love it! i've had my prepoo in for like 3 or 4 days now so TODAY is wash day lol - do you still rinse with ACV anymore? haven't seen you do it in a while, i'm going to try it today again, i remember i loved how it made my hair so soft....

241Genevieve: Forget to mention I did your pre-poo Whitney and my mum did the tea rinse O.M.G let's just say our hair is just flourishing :)

MoonlitWit: Beautiful as always! I've been trying to get my wash n go back on track, so maybe I'll try these tips for next time

Jasmynn Lee: I love to see you getting back to basics!! I've been considering doing the same, this vid just made up my mind for some reason.. I got used to seeing you and everyone else using 100% store brought products..

Courtney Alexz: Yeah I just started using leave ins again too! Huge difference on my wash and goes!

Safae Creates: This is great, you clearly have so much knowledge about keeping hair beautiful and healthy!! (I wouldn't call this routine simple though)

Naturally India: You hair looks so soft and the definition is crazy!!

Best By Today: I love how springy and bouncy your hair is!! So healthy :)

Shalin Njeri: Thanks @Naptural85 I have been washing my hair using your instructions for 2 years now..my hair is 4C it's always been hard for me to manage it and with my sensitive scalp it was a nightmare,Now wash day has become so easy.. thanks ☺️

luvlyrickle: Hi Whitney! Quick question: is the leave-in a substitute for your shea butter mix, and do you not use that and/or the flaxseed gel as much as before? Are you finding any downside to using more store-bought products as opposed to your DIY? Thanks as always for sharing! xo

LisaLiving: Whoo! I feel like I got a workout from just watching this video! Wash day's are something else.

Alana White: You have helped my hair so much! After my second baby, whose 9 months now (congrats on your #2!) I've been struggling with my hair shedding and falling out. I think the tea rinse will really help. when in this wash routine do you add that step? Right before the leave in??

Just Call me L: I gotta tell you .... this works for me !!! Thanks so much. My hair has been in a wash and go x's 3 days and it's still soft I mean day one soft it's revolutionary .... I haven't made the shampoo yet but the rest magnificent

doogieRN1: Yay it's up! I have been trying to wait patiently Whitney!!! I have been doing the aloe gel and oil pre- poo though....I need to take a before pictures and after as the YouTuber you got this treatment from suggested so I can see the difference in my edges and possible hair growth. Thanks for your time and effort in helping us with our hair.

fallenwings25: Love This! I've been using leave in conditioner before oil and twisting cream or twisting cream then oil and my twist were weighted down and super greasy. After watching this, I applied oil before the 2 and my hair feel soft and fluffy! Thank you for the tips!

I have lots of heat damage (especially in front) & now I'm trying 2 get my hair healthy & happy (& in wash-n-go condition)...moisture retention is my biggest challenge :l Thanks again, keep them coming! Courteney T

ymb6987: Hey Whitney!! Super moisturized hair - love it!

Ilene Johnson: I LOVE your hair!! That pop, that spring, its gorgeous ! Glory to God for making something so beautiful

Roxanna Renea: Love your curls. I think my curl pattern would be similar to yours if I went natural. Great video as always!

v nixon: I am still learning as we all are. Thank you so much for your diligence and perseverance and congrats on the New Edition( not R&B group). But I was wondering what you think about before adding the oil maybe adding the leave in after the aloe because leave ins are like (to me) the serum step that penetrates your moisturized hair. Then add the oil like moisturizer cream over serum to seal all that good moisture in. Maybe excess oil could be absorbed with t shirt. paper towel or good micro fiber. Just a thought.

Xoxo_Kyna: I recently tweaked my routine to make it So very simple ,mostly focused on moisture as well!! Low maintenance has changed my hairs life !! Oddly enough I also recently fell in love with the Mane Choice product line ALSO I TOO have been on the Giovanni conditioner Team for yrs now glad to see u love it as well .....Quick Tip: warm that conditioner then apply it truly changes the came I also heat my oils with it !! ..thanks for the vid as always!

Jasmine y: I finally learned the biggest step to healthy and long hair... PATIENCE! lol I literally make myself upset taking forever to even wash my hair. Shout outs to all of y'all

Trinii1: I tried this procedure last week and loved it. It worked so well, doing it again. Thanks Whit. p.s I happened to have rice water on hand and used it in place of the ACV. It worked well also

Rose Derogene: Beautiful hair. Great tutorial as always. Thank you:)

pinklady: If you don't want to get back in the shower, there's always the bending over the sink option. I'm not sure that would be super comfortable with a pregnant belly, but there's always the option afterwards...

krazychilel: Whitney girl .... thank you. ... I have been washing my hair like this for 3 weeks now ... my scalp with the aloe is like 110% than it use to be ... my hair oh my hair so soft so shiny. .. thank you

Deedy Neal: You taught me so much about natural hair. I messed around and went to a salon and now I’m in 911 rescue mode!!!

G Rose: Looks super healthy and bouncy!

Dominique: Honestly one of the only natural hair gurus I can trust with giving me quality info, I still go back to numerous older videos to learn/relearn different things and I truly appreciate your page for that!

Yvette Jamison: Awesome video as you share your simple wash day routine 2017.  Your honesty is appreciated by me.  You are so clear in explaining  and I  appreciative you for helping me understand after viewing many wash day routines,.  The care you take is an example of a plan for me  to maintain healthy hair.  Thank you for your showing me how to moisture each strand for a better head of hair.

angelica: loved the aloe vera prepoo. its unbelievable how soft and almost restructured my hair felt. my issue was aloe chunks that cling to my strands. had to blend it next time and perfect.

soulfyrestar: The shrinkage is so real! That curl definition tho'

Ebony Painter: This method works the best for me as well!! I could never keep my hair moisturized until this method!! Even with my low porosity hair it works!!!
