Okay, so I'm using six pieces of okra, which then I'm going to cut in half. So if you want to cut them into little pieces fall means do so, but I just cut them in halves about a tablespoon and a half to two tablespoons of marshmallow root. In some peppermint essential oil, I'm also going to add a cup of water to a pot and let that boil and then when it starts to boil I'm going to add in my ingredients. So, first I'm going to add in the okra and then I'm going to add in the marshmallow root. Lastly, I'm going to add my peppermint oil, and I wish I would add, just a few more drops to mask the okra smell a little bit more, but it smell pretty good, but the more you add, of course, the more the stronger the smell of the essential Oil, so I'm going to let this boil for about ten minutes and stir it here and there just to mix the contents around in the pot. I also mashed on the okra pieces, just a little bit to remove some of the gel inside of the okra. So after I turn off the heat on the stove, this is what the contents looks like. So I'm going to let it sit for about 30 to 45 minutes, and this is what the gel looks like. So I got a little bit thicker as it sit on those I let it sit and it kind of has like a gel like texture to it. Now so now I'm going to strain the okra gel and I'm going to use a small glass bowl along with the strainer okay. So the straining process is going to take quite a bit of time impatience, but starting off it comes out fairly quickly. But of course, over time that isn't the case, so you might have to stir it around a little bit in the strainer to release more of the gel and sometimes I'll call set up caught myself having to shake just a little um. But you just got to be patient with this part, so towards the end of that process, I'm just going use a spoon to collect the remainder of the gel, so this is what the Jill I mean. This is what the contents looks like when the majority of the gel has been strained from it. I actually kind of wanted to taste it, but maybe next time. So this is what the gel looks like. Okay, I am going to secure it with the lid and sit it in the refrigerator overnight and in the morning. This is what it looks like. It looks way, thicker and, of course, it's cold, and I used it to pull my hair up in a bun. It laid my edges pretty well just wish. I would have put it in a bottle to squeeze it out, I'll, be sure to do some more styling tutorials using this. Please comment down below if you have any questions and give it a thumbs up. If you found this helpful and would like to see us do more videos like this, I love you guys and I will see you next. Video

Bri Talks: Try adding the peppermint oil after it has cooled. The smell will be better and you will get the benefit of the oil

StørmyAnchor: I've been doing the okra leave in conditioner now for about a week or 2 and it works great!! Defined curls and hydration . I'll add in marshmallow root next time.

Amy Dhillon: great ingredients! it might work better if you boil the okra, remove it from the water then add the marshmallow and peppermint after so it's easier to strain. I find that the okra absorbs all the other ingredients and is a bit more time consuming but it has the same result! Thanks for the recipe!

Alicia Cadet: Can you do more DIY videos like that? I want to learn how to make my own products and I know there are thousands of them out here on YouTube too but I like to watch other people's ideas. Also, the gel laid your hair down pretty good, this makes me wonder how it will look like in a twist n curl, or just a regular ol' twist out. Cute hair in the vid by the way!

Hautemomma1970: I love your hair texture! I see a lot of comments that this is a lot of work but to me it's not. I was wondering what type of gel would give me a good hold on my 4c hair w/flaking so I could wear a ponytail. Looks like I'll be adding okra to my grocery list now. Thanks for the video!

monnie j: This is awesome! Flax seeds trigger my eczema so this is a great alternative! Thank you sharing your recipe and that high bun just gave me my life! ❤

Chay Andrea: love this option, can't wait to try out all these DIY gels!

Faith Bell: I've been told that essential oils lose some of their effects when heated, so I wonder if the peppermint smell would mask the okra better if you add it after the gel was strained. That's cool you used okra!

Forever Lanae: I found that when I made flax gel the straining process was MUCH easier when I strained it right off the stove. it still set thick too. I kinda wanna try this now, seeing your response about the firmer hold. . . I LOVE firm holds. I'm that girl that get the 10 hold eco & keeps the gel cast lol

Destiny Akagha: This is so different! In my culture, we prepare okra like this for soup and fufu....its so interesting to know that it can be used for hair. Nice video!

Camika C: Amazing! I'd love to see an actual hair styling tutorial with you using this gel....Can it be used as a styler or more so like a gel to help with laying down edges and flyaway's?

I would most definitely like to try this. =] I also saw a video of naptural85 using an old stocking to squeeze the excess gel out, using tongs. That could have helped!

imani406: That's so genius. How long did the gel keep ur hair intact? I ❤️ ur story , going vegan, taking the natural route in all facets of ur life. ....yall sisters are soooo dope. #favoriteutubechannel
