What'S up guys welcome back to the channel, we are doing a DIY today and it's kind of different, because we're gon na be experimenting with an ingredient that I have never used before, and I've always been really interested in trying. I just never got around to it. So it's kind of like a first impression review and I realize I'm talking really fast sorry, so I've already used in my hair, so I'm really excited to just take it out and show you guys the results. Maybe that's why I'm talking fast. Let me tell you what ingredient we're using today. It is the delicious sweet potato. Oh you're, gon na love, soup tails are sweet, they're carbs, I love sweet carbs, but the great thing about sweet potatoes is that they're good for you so like this? Is such a great breakfast food? I love eating this for breakfast cuz satisfies wanting like a cart for breakfast and wanted sugar. The great thing about the sweet potato is that it's full of vitamins, and so it's really great for your skin and for your hair. Obviously, if you're eating it internally, there's also information circulating around that it could be good for hair fall, so I'm definitely down for that. We all know that green tea is really great for hair fall as well, but I figured I just give it a try and see what I think about it as a deep conditioning treatment today we're doing an extremely simple sweet, potato hair mask. I really want to see what this potato can do. So, let's get into the treatment and then we'll just talk a little bit more about. What'S so great about this, alright guys. So, to start, we're gon na need just three items: half a baked sweet potato about a half, a cup of water and about 1/4 cup of olive oil. I always bake my sweet potato and it's skin wrapped in parchment paper. You can also use a little bit of oil. You can also boil your sweet potato if you like that better, but boiling will cause some of those great nutrients to leach out in the water just an FYI. So I'm removing the skin of my baked sweet potato and I'm just cutting it into small pieces that'll fit into my blender, adding about half a cup of water and then that quarter cup of olive oil just to make blending easier and also to help it spread. Neatly throughout my hair, now just close the cap on your blender or a blender cup and pulverize that mixture until it's smooth when you're done it's gon na look something like this: a beautiful creamy orange texture. Alright, that looks delicious it's time to apply it to the hair. I was so excited to give this a try. I'M spraying my hair with just a light spritzel of water, and this is gon na help loosen those shrunken curls. So it's not so tangled, and it's also gon na help. The sweet, potato conditioner apply more smoothly. Now, just do a small spritz of water, don't completely wet your hair or that conditioning treatment might not soak in all the way. All right, we're going in just carefully and as evenly as possible, apply the sweet potato treatment all over your hair, so sweet potatoes, taste, delicious, but they're also packed with so many vitamins and minerals needed to maintain healthy, hair and skin. First of all, it contains a ton of vitamin C which is not only an antioxidant meaning. It helps to protect the hair follicles from free radical damage. But it's also the main vitamin needed to help produce collagen, which contains important amino acids needed to build keratin, which is the main protein of your hair, skin and nails. It also contains pantothenic acid, also known as vitamin b5, which helps to reverse thinning hair and helps to moisturize and smooth the hair and skin. So we potato also contains vitamin b1 and b6, which helps to promote healthy hair growth, along with loads of vitamin A vitamin. A helps to strengthen the hair, reducing breakage, while also encouraging sebum production to help moisturize the hair and scalp keeping them healthy. Pro vitamin A is actually what gives the sweet potato that rich orange color. So you potatoes also contain a bit of iron, calcium, magnesium and selenium all important minerals for healthy hair growth, as well as high levels of potassium phosphorus. So I'm applying it all over my hair from ends to roots really working that in and also don't forget to massage it into your scalp. So the skin on your scalp and your roots can really reap those benefits. Adding sweet potatoes into your diet will definitely help encourage healthier hair growth and softer skin and hair, but applying sweet. Potato topically has been mentioned to also help in reducing hair fall, possibly by helping to strengthen the hair at the root, and it's also said to help soften the hair and skin on contact. Lastly, i'm applying the mixture all over my face, and i got ta say it feels really refreshing so once you've worked it all into your hair and face place, your hair into a plastic cap or bag, and let that sit for about 45 minutes. So I left the mask on my hair for about 45 minutes. We rinsed it completely out, followed it up with an apple cider, vinegar clarifier, which is one part, apple, cider, vinegar to three parts, water, just to make sure that everything was off of my scalp and also it's really gentle. I didn't want a shampoo or anything like that, because my hair was pretty clean anyway. I just wanted to get the mask off of my hair, followed it up with a leaving twisted up my hair, and it is the next day today so we're going to take it out. I told you if we then baby, my hair is still a little bit wet. As you can see, it's very fluffy, I'm actually shocked right now. I thought I knew the way this video was gon na go when I was applying to my hair. The potato felt very smooth and moisturizing, but I was like. Maybe that's because I have leave it on my hair. You know I had just washed a couple days before when I rinsed it out of my hair. It didn't feel as moisturizing as when I had first applied it to my hair. In fact, I was definitely looking forward to getting the leave-in conditioner on my hair. It didn't feel like a store-bought conditioner if you know what I'm saying and it didn't even feel like. If you've ever used, avvocato or banana, it didn't feel as moisturizing as that either okay, so it's kind of like somewhere in between you definitely want to follow it up with a conditioner so based on the fact that when I was rinsing it out of my hair, I wasn't super impressed by any of its like detangling abilities or how its softened my hair anything like that. I was really expecting to be like well, it's great, but probably just eat it, but now taking out my hair, I am very shocked by how soft my hair is. It could be the leave-in I don't know. I mean I've used this leave-in a million times. It feels softer than normal. This is the only difference here: the sweet potato mixture. It was impressive, going on not impressive, being rinsed out, but the final, like my hair, feels very soft, very lightweight. I'Ve really liked using this, as I DIY as a topical treatment, and I'm really shocked, because I didn't think I was going to like it. I would not recommend using it on its own. I guess because we're always so used to like having tons of moisture and all that, and I also can't speak to whether it has helped my hair fall, because I've literally only used it once. But I will continue using this and I think it would be amazing in an avocado or a banana hair mask or an avocado banana hair mask or a Greek, yogurt or fenugreek. If you have seen any of my other like hair conditioning DIYs, adding this to any of those would be amazing, I wonder how this would also be out like a bentonite treatment that could be really cool. I do recommend adding sweet potato into your diet, though, because it is like, I said, full of tons of beautifying vitamins also really great for you. It'S available year-round and it's inexpensive. So it's a really great inexpensive DIY to add to your repertoire. So, yes, potato! Hmm sweet potato all right, so that's the end of my video. I hope that you guys enjoyed it. I hope that you will eat more sweet potatoes. Add it to your ID iy. I hope it was helpful and yeah. I will see you guys in the next one

Honey Jones: We're about to see sweet potato deep conditioners online and in stores soon. When our black natural hair women do something, big companies take it.

Compromise? What is compromise!: Alright, now ya'll better not make sweet potato prices go up.

Karierenee: You are the QUEEN of DIY’s! I cannot wait to give this a try. The color is so vibrant omg I love it. Awesome results

Yödä Cläÿ: What pisses me off is that you’ve came up with some magnificent hair tips and tricks over the years and you are under appreciated! Well I’ll scream it loud “I LOVE AND APPRECIATED YOU” ♥️♥️♥️ you deserve 10 million subs

waisam sergeant: Your gonna see 101 sweet potato treatment on YouTube now.

Linda B: I'm gonna have issues now when I'm in the middle of preparing sweet potato pie...lol It seems all the "orange" things do something good for hair and skin. I have been using red palm oil on my hair as a prepoo and oil rinse for about five years now (my hair loves it). And I use pumpkin seed oil on my skin if I have a breakout and it heals it up and makes my skin glow.

Jennifer Marea: This is SUCH a good zero waste conditioner! I'm definitely gonna make this when my conditioner runs out. I'm really trying to stop using hair products that come in plastic

rjmami8508: I’d have to buy two: one to eat, and one for hair

Lifesabeast: Yay back to DIY's ❤ I eat sweet potatoes daily & It definitely boosts health. Its noticeable immediately. Great vid Whit!

black.and.nerdy: I'd love to see an update on this after you've tried using it a couple of times... I've been natural for ten years and me from ten years would be shocked to see how much "food" I put in my hair lol

Night Angel: I love this recipe. Babilon Kay has a ton of similar concoctions for natural hair. For the application, I would suggest an applicator brush.

Naptural85: Hey guys!! Ever used a pumpkin, strawberry, egg, green tea or turmeric face mask from a high-end store!? This is the same idea but BETTER and less expensive... you can EAT food AND you can use it on your body. EVERYTHING is derived from plants... EVERYTHING. Whether you use the whole natural ingredient or wait for it to be broken down with chemicals and tossed in a jar... it started out as a food or plant source from nature. So, it’s up to you if you like to DIY your plant products or buy them in a jar! ‍♀️ But either way, you’re using plants and food on your hair and body in one way or another! XO! ❤️ Also... have a little FUN! Hair is FUN y’all! And so are DIYs! Don’t let the current negative state of Youtube affect you ❤️

Lindsey Burnside: Whitney I just want to shout out your gray hairs. They look so gorgeous and sophisticated amongst your shiny, voluminous hair. Also thank you for sharing!

Ayan M: Well damn the secret's out lolll. I've been making & selling a version of this as a hair strengthening mask since 2011 but stopped a while back cuz it's WERK! But my hair & I miss the beta carotene in there.

skeeweelicious: Yaaaaaaaaasssss! Thanks for posting this! I have a toddler with a heep of allergies and have been searching for good things to add to my diy avocado and honey conditioner we use for her..... This is perfect! ❤❤❤❤

tanksandsocks: Girl!!! You are always coming up with new stuff!! #respect

Ivette R.: Your work is so appreciated ❤️ Since we’re sharing love, I have to take the space to share the homemade treatment that has been quite popular lately among afro women in Brazil and the rest of latin america: MAIZENA. Just prepare a regular maizena with water, let it cool down a bit, add your favorite oils (don’t exaggerate ), honey (optional) and around a spoon of your fav treatment. GIRLS, I swear to you, you’ll be blown away with the definition and the softness. Please try it! ❤️

The King's Daughter: I have this in my hair right now as a pre poo! I used sweet potato baby food and added molasses, coconut oil, castor, almond oil. My hair is dark and shiny now can't wait to wash it out!

Jacqui D: Love the fact your still doing DIY vids even though you now have your own products. Been watching your videos since 09, they encouraged me to grow out my TWA which I kept for 4yrs. I appreciate your persistence.

LaLa Love: I'm definitely trying this ASAP! I love eating sweet potato too, especially with salmon. Both are great for your hair, and of course, taste BOMB!

Ashley Poston: Having sensitive skin......and being over protective about my hair I'm like "wheww this a risk.....putting it in my hair....oh lord she is risky RISKY putting it on her face!!!!!" Whitney you are giving me anxiety right now lol but you've never told us wrong

asukachan07: Yay, DYI video! I would never do that hair/skin treatment because I KNOW that I wouldn't resist eating that roasted sweet potato Thanks for sharing Whitney ❤

Kamisha Edwards: I am in love with this DIY. My hair is so soft, juicy....just YESSSSS!!! I had the same expectation you did as you were taking your hair down #MouthDrop !!! Thank you!!!

Alisha Taylor: Hey Whit, I tried this diy today I had a great time applying & making it. You are spot on about adding the leave in right after washing, super moisturizing. I’ll give this another go! I did notice less shedding not sure if it came from this.

On The Loc Journey: I love the editing on this video Whitney! Thanks for sharing your DIY experiments with us --- its always a treat to learn from you :)

Compromise? What is compromise!: Can I say I'm shook that your hair was not separated into four parts prior to applying!! Our Whit, is relaxed!!!!

K Rob: I have tried sweet potato and pumpkin hair mask. I have heard that those who would like to try something like the banana hair mask but are allergic to bananas can try sweet potato. The simplest hair masks work for me. Mango works as well.

Quinette Sanders: Only Whitney will have me considering blending sweet potatoes and putting them in my hair.

Caedydid and JewelvidsYT1: Follow up video idea: use aloe vera juice instead of water and use a little bit less so you can add more oils like argan, jojoba or avocado, but still get the same consistency and see if it feels more moisturized during the rinse. I'd try it myself, but my nutribullet conked out on me

Jasmine Smith: First rice water now sweet potato? What next collard greens, and cornbread with a side of fried catfish

Rae: Lets just mix up the whole fridge and see what we get. Can we just stick with what already works? Your hair is already the bomb! I’ll stick to eating my food.

Just Fanni: While back I made a Sweet Potatoe Face Cream, and LOVED IT Yes you should definitely use the "Sweet Potatoe" Again, try adding "Egg Yolk" to it but Not the Egg Whites. I say the Egg Yolk, because it's Conditioning.

None: Wow, great results! You are truly a trail blazer and pioneer for the future of black hair care! Thank you for being you and posting great content!

YouTube Addict: I really love how you mention all the hair nutrients and benefits (of sweet potato). Do you think normal potatoes could work just as well?

Lee Rich: Could probably benefit from mixing with a black castor oil, jojoba, grapeseed oil, or avocado oil

libra queen: I tried this years ago and my hair came out really soft but since health starts from the INSIDE out I am going to continue to eat mine. I LOVE sweet potatoes wayyyyyyy too much to put it in my hair. These hair regiments are getting way out control...lololol

Yaya DIY Creations: Runs to the store to buy sweet potatoes ‍♀️ Great video as always!!

Tangie: Omg that looked so good fresh out of the blender I love sweet potatoes ....I’m loving your twisting butter and oil. Is this going to be the main ingredient in your next product? Maybe a shampoo and deep conditioning mask

Shawnta Jefferies: okay, so I LOVE aloe vera gel and decided to do more diy products for my hair, but wanted to ask you a process question... I am thinking on my wash day it should go: aloe pre poo, shampoo, tea rinse (ocassionally or sweet potato mask), condition/ detangle and deep condition. And then for cowash days its oil, inexpensive conditioner, rinse with water, apply aloe vera juice, and oil to seal in moisture. Does that sound about right?

twweety9: I may try this. A lot of my hair has thinned and fallen out. So brittle, so thin, I thought I was doing something wrong Found out I have an iron deficiency. I’m hoping the medicine helps so I can get back on track with my hair journey

Janelle: You doing this near your white comforter is making me so nervous

Michelle Samuels: I have been using this for a while with other foods as my conditioner and I LOVE IT!

ChosenToBeNe: I'm in awe of how well the mixture just melted into your hair!

LaTonya S: Naptural85's hair is so healthy and beautiful that she can put just about anything in her hair and it will look great.

Catherine Butler: I will continue to reap the benefits through my diet. I love eating sweet potatoes too much to place in my hair. OMG! Near that white bedding Peace and blessings!❤️

Kerith O: Thank you for sharing. Sister with real hair tried this too, but with yoghurt and honey a few years ago. Not sure she liked it. I think I am going to try it. Your hair is lovely. I appreciate your videos

Touring Bricks: Hi! I love your videos ;D. I would like to suggest trying natural Henna mixed with some oils and maybe even yogurt,, depends on you. It makes the hair really soft but dry at the same time that’s why you need to mis it with something else. Leave it for a while and then rinse it off.

Gwendoline Nolen: Finally. I have been doing this for some time though I use coconut milk instead of water (4c hair here need extra protein).

Shawn Myrelle: I would have been tempted to make a pie. But I'm interested in this and may experiment with this as well to see the overall results. I envision a Melanin Sweet Potatoe hair mask/face mask/pre-conditioner. Love and inspiration from Phoenix (with that in mind, could this be good resistance for sunlight? Etc)

starrchild98: I wonder how it would have been without the ACV rinse! My hair is so dry it’s probably best for me to do the acv rinse first. Then do a really good rinse out!

Christal Williams: The way it just melted in your hair!! I’m all over this!!! I keep them in the pantry!

Tina37212: I am so happy you found natural, alternative medicine. You got your health back and your hair grew back! Beautiful.

Romaine Singleton: I went way back in your archived video and came across this one on Sweet potato conditioner . I love sweet potatoes could eat them all day ,everyday. Have some questions (can you put cinnamon, and honey ,and coconut milk to make it as if you were making a sweet potato pie) cause I was watching SheRea Delsol 's pumpkin video and she had added cinnamon and coconut milk and some other things ,such as fenugreek and I can't use it. Just wondering if it possible. Also I would like to see your first big chop and what made you do it and how has the journey been from beginning to now. And Congratulations on your product.. haven't tried it yet , working on it . Or trying to make it my self. Thank you..

Kimberlately: Sweet potato? For my hair? ... *Clicks* This is the content that I love! Thank you

Dr. Marquis Grant: Trying it now! Can't wait to see the results

Michelle Beckford: I seriously believe YouTube has a "Thumbs Down" Department in the basement with cement walls, morbid grey undertones, no windows, working 24/7. She just posted for Gods sake, what's not to like?????????????? #thankswhit❤

Marren: I LOVE yellow sweet potato. I noticed whenever I eat oatmeal and yellow sweet potato regularly my skin texture is more glowing and healthy. I never thought to use it as a conditioner. Ah ha.

Carey The Writer Anderson: When you put the mixture on your face it made me . I was thinking sweet potato and turmeric. With and ! I think I might be hungry but I can’t wait to try this.

Karri S: Going to try this soon!! You have the most perfect hair on YouTube!!❤️

Bridgette Swenson: Thanks Whitney for sharing! Sweet potato is so delicious! I love roasted sweet potato and sweet potato roti.

Shannon Armstrong: Beautiful head of hair just gorgeous and the shrinkage is real LOVING IT

Frugal Joss: When you applied the sweet potato to your hair I noticed your hair looked moisturizing. It's something I would try Thank you

C B: Ohhhh! Thanks for the natural & fragrance free hair line. Any hopes of a leave-in soon

MRS. DL Lieberman 360: I tried the recipe and added cinnamon... but I ended up eating it instead, as an internal conditioner. LOL!!! Next time, I need to buy more sweet potatoes and eat before attempting to do it for my hair. DELICIOUS!

Island Girl Ruby: The best hair mask I’ve used is your banana hair mask, is moisturizes and strengthen like no other.

Zions Time144: So innovative! You mentioned that you rinsed with acv, so do you think it was the sweet potato and the acv, as both of these ingredients seemed to be different than your typical routine with your tried and true leave in? In other words, do you typically rinse with acv with your leave in and now you just added the sweet potato or was the difference with your leave in this time an acv rinse AND the sweet potato mask?

Williams Oluwaseun Judith: Who else got a sneak peek of the melanin satin scarf? Whitney ma, I admire you. Love from Nigeria❤❤❤

Me , Myself and I: I wonder what our hair be thinking when we put stuff like this on it....

Myrna J: Looooooooove it!! Hope all is well. Definitely going to try this. I have been using the Aloe prepoo since I watched your tutorial on it and my hair Loves it. Thank you for sharing this.

JellyBellyMystic: I am going to try this. I am starting to not use cotton on my hair, such as towels, pillow cases etc. and I am sleeping in a silk cap. That helps to keep the frizzy hair at bay.

Anne Idakwo: Yesterday, I went to the salon and a girl told me that her sister used potatoes on her natural hair. I laughed so hard. today, my eyes have seen it.

Law Abiding Citizen: I had a prepoo from Everbutter(now out of business) that sweet potato was the main ingredient I miss it so much. it kept my scalp from flaking and it was super soft!! i think #melaninhaircare needs a product with this SWEET ingredient ;)

tanksandsocks: Oooh I peeped the satin melanin hair scarf!! I think at least lol. Can't wait for your next drop! I check the website every week.

Latoya James: Thanks Whitney! I can not wait to try this treatment too!

hey G: Count me in, I always have them on hand, now they will serve double duty. I've been a believer in DIY ever since I tried Whit's banana recipe.

Kathleen Harris: Awesome! Am I the only one thinking in a pinch to buy sweet potato baby food? Thanks Whitney! Love the Melanin twisting cream.

Markus Meyer: In Germany sweet potatoes are very expensive. I wish I could use it for my hair. I only cook it for special occasions. But love the creativity !

Maryam Myers: I’m gonna give this a try!! Thank you!

Jasminn Dove: I've tried pumpkin in my hair, but not sweet potatoes. I shall be trying this soon! Please try pumpkin as well ladies

SSNUTHIN: oh this is right up my alley. I wonder, potatoes have alot of starch in them and starch has a tendency to absorb water, perhaps is this partially why it didn't feel so great while rinsing? I would love to hear your thoughts on starches and moisture, I know we have a tendency to focus on oils and butters when we think about moisture, but there are obviously some well-loved natural beauty ingredients like bananas and sweet potatoes that are mainly starch. Sending you my love!

ChocoLo36: I was just speaking to my co workers about finding a good conditioner. Then you drop a diy video. You're fantastic and thank you for sharing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Star kelly: I am going to try this ....Thank you so much goddess I have been watching you for years and over 85% has definitely work for me

Mich Hib: Omg now sweet potatoes going to be skyrocketing . I love you girl anything your hand touches is golden Yes am going to be trying the madness

Brandon Freeman: I think you should try the sweet potato with aloe and olive oil. I think the aloe would help with keeping moisture in the hair. I also would love to see you do a DIY okra detangler.

Shareefah M: Seriously! This is the BEST hair care page out there! I tried this but did anyone else have issues with mini chunks in hair :-( ? Will try straining it next time around but this most def has my hair feeling super moisturized! Had no clue about sweet potatoes and hair!

Deanna Reve: Oh wow I will definitely be trying this! I’m all for putting food in my hair

Daci Annabel: This is very different. I have never heard of sweet potato as a conditioner. But your hair turned out really nice

Myname Here: This diy is a hard one. I think I'd end up eating the sweet potato before I could make the mask‍♀️ its one of my faves.

Nash St Clair: Ughhh, I washed my hair yesterday. You make me wanna wash it again and try this

Sydni Micaela: I was about to say “I’m going to try this as a face mask” and then she put it on her face and i was like okay cool then it wont be as weird

Lisa Sims: Thanks for the tip about baking the sweet potato... I always boil mine...Ima start baking it...and yes, yams are some of the most nutrient rich veggies..

1pundyboomer: I eat sweet potatoes almost every single day because it’s great for my digestion. Keeps me moving nice and smooth

ikb1231: Hey I love your videos and I've been watching for YEARS. I was wondering if you've tried the Curls Green Collection? I'm really curious to see what you thinking especially since it's vegan

Conscious Cee: You are always so original!! Just love you. Thanks for the video

A Jar of Jam: I use to do this with sweet potato baby food. It's cheaper and already blended.

Fruits are life: Can you do more of these natural face masks to your hair masks. And what you think is the best natural DIY face mask ?

Elandra Brown: Best part of the video is when you laugh at your own joke 35 seconds in love it!!

Natstastic J: You're brave doing that in a room with white linens!! Every time I try do a DC outside the shower, i get it everywhere! LOL

Unknown Unknown: Hmmm I stick with other DYI you shared whitneycould you do one on Chebe. Make it into a tea and spray on your hair. Reduces hair shedding breakage up to 70 percent!!

Imani K: I’m excited now, wash day here I come ft. sweet potato!
