Defined Wash N Go (Short To Medium Length Natural Hair) (4B/4C Natural Hair) (Updated) (2018)

Here's how I create my Wash N Go on my short to medium natural hair. I’ve had a few questions on how I get my type 4b/4c hair so defined, so I wanted to put together this video showing you how you can achieve similar results.

So the trick to getting my natural coils nicely defined, is simply to create small sections when parting my hair and by applying a generous amount of hair gel and that’s it. But if the sections of your hair are too big and you don’t apply enough gel, then your strands won’t be properly defined.

This defined Wash and Go style typically takes up to 2 hours to create, but I do have quicker ways of doing it, but it just means my hair won’t be as defined, which is ok.

Hey guys and welcome back to another video. So today I'll be showing you'How. I Create my Wash and Go' to make my hair go from this ... ... to this.. So if you want to find out more details on the methods and products I used to create, this look then definitely keep watching. By the way I do already have a'Dry Wash and Go' video on my channel, where I apply a slightly different technique. So if you want to check that out, then I'll leave the details in the description box.. So before creating this style, my hair was freshly washed and deep conditioned, and then I applied my leave-in. So for this Wash and Go I'll, be using the Aunt Jackie's. Don'T Shrink Flaxseed gel and I really love this gel for it's definition and also because it doesn't leave my hair feeling hard or too dry.. So I'm often asked how I get my hair so defined when I create this style. So I'm about to show you step-by-step. So that, hopefully you can achieve similar results. So starting at back, I'm going to section my hair into small sections. Next I'll apply a generous amount of gel to my hair, so just about enough for that entire section to be fully covered and then run my fingers through my hair, whilst covering as many strands as possible with the gel and adding more as and when necessary.. So basically, the trick to getting my coils nicely define is simply to create small sections when I'm separating my hair and by adding a good amount of gel, and that is really it.. Basically, if the sections of your hair are too big - and you don't apply enough gel, then not all strands will be covered with gel and you won't get that definition. Now. The only downside to applying this method is that it can take a long time to do. Typically, it takes me up to 2 hours, erm ..., but when I don't have that time available, I just create larger sections and just apply the gel. I mean it's not always about definition for me, so you know it really .... I really don't mind. Just depend on the look I'm going for at the time., So sometimes when I'm running my fingers through my hair, I do come across a few tangles in places. So when this happens I'll just like to use an afro comb or any other comb just to help smooth it out., So just show you how it's looking from the back. My coils are nice and defined, and there's no frizz.. So once the back areas of my hair is done, I then like to use my stretchy bands to help keep my hair fully stretched. I mean generally, I tend to leave them on overnight for a better stretch, but for the sake of this video I'll be taking them down once my entire hair has been completed.. So all the bands are in and I tend to create anywhere between 6 to 8 sections. Erm .... So now I'm just going to take them down and basically show you the results. In terms of drying time. My hair tends to take hours to you, know completely dry, and I find that it's mainly in the middle section of my hair that take longer ... erm .... The ends tend to dry within hours, but the middle section can take maybe a day ... erm ... but yeah. I prefer to let my hair dry, naturally, rather than using a diffuser.. So that's it guys.. I hope you found this video useful.. If you've got any questions, please do comment. Below. Also don't forget to click the like button. If you enjoyed this video and be sure to subscribe for more videos. Thanks so much for watching and I'll see you in the next video take care, bye,

Aquarius: THIS is 4c hair. Them other youtubers stay lying

Brit De: REAL 4C HAIR...I really appreciate the video...I was starting to think I was 4E

Tracy Sweaty Nipps: Type 4 hair is the most unique versitile hair on this planet we can manipulate it into any style and curl pattern yet other hair types can't mimic our type 4 hair.. It amazes me how you can look at a type 4 and think its super short then when you stretch a curl out it flows all the way down your back.. I literally forget how long my hair really is until I pull my curls down because shrinkage is an illusion of what the true length actually is. Black hair is absolutely amazing to me the abilities it has and the versatility is endless.

Kim: The devil works hard but shrinkage works harder... your hair looks great!!

Hazel E: You’re hair is a pretty extremely tightly curled Afro. Your tiny curls are so pretty. I love 4c hair because it’s so thick, full, and lush. My hair is 4a curls and fine textured but I think 4c hair is so pretty.

C Williams: First YouTuber I've found who has my exact hair type. Love it!

Joy Thomas: THANK YOUUU! I’ve been natural 3 years now and has spent COUNTLESS dollars and COUNTLESS hours trying to obtain this look. THANK YOU SO MUCH SIS

jj fontana: Hiya, Thank you for this. I tried my first wash go ever, I always do twist outs, and I love your method. It worked on my hair brilliantly, although I didn't do tiny sections like you did, I raked it with my fingers. I got compliments left right and centre. I know this is an old video, so I had to search for it . I returned back my natural hair nearly 3 years now. Keep creating content, there is something for everyone. Thank you so much

christine1962ful: Great video! Also glad to have a fellow Brit repping for us 4b/4c ladies! I tried banding whilst wet and leaving it 5i dry! It turned out to be a disaster! Not sure where I went wrong. I must admit I prefer doing dry wash and goes because I get better definition and it dries do much more faster. I tend to band, fluff etc after its fully dry. Going to look at your dry wash and go.

Healthy Afro Hair: Hey guys it’s been a while, but I’m back with my Updated Wash N Go video. Sorry for the delay, I’ve just been taking some time out since having my newborn and enjoying some quality time with the family. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the video and if you have any questions, feel free to ask away

Katherine Miller: I love that your hair has so much movement! I will have to try doing smaller sections for my wash and goes.

Kay Amoah: This vid came at the perfect time, I was planning on trying a wash and go next week! Will defo try your technique, love the idea of banding aswell

ur fav girlboss: I have 3a curly hair and I'm only watching this video to get motivation. The amount of dedication 4c girls do to get they're hair looking FLAWLESS is really motivating to me. Whereas for me, I just have to shampoo my hair, condition my hair, put in a very light curl cream, and then put a mousse in it and wait for it to dry. Stay safe! Ly girl!

jazdtildawn2: Finally, someone who has the same shrinkage experience as me.

J Grant: I have a 3" length hair all over so when I get your length I will definitely use your method of stretching ..it turned out beautiful!!!

WhatsOnHerMind: The music you chose is so vibey, and i loved all the still shots you took. Very high quality video. I also liked the strechy bands you used. They seemed very easy on your hair

Sade T.: Such a unique and beautiful curl pattern. Wow. Amazing

Emmanuela Jean-Baptiste: Wow, you're hair is actually pretty long. The shrinkage had me fooled.

LondonNatural86: Great video! Thanks for putting this together for us! Came at right time for me. Had a set back with my hair as I went to a "natural expert" hairdresser for a trim and she cut too much.... Anyway back on the wash n go routine. How do you keep your wash n go moisturised throughout the week? I have high porosity fine hair and I find that if i dont moisturize daily my hair gets really dry in this style. Only thing is mosturizing can upset the definition AND make my hair gummy/sticky through the build up I think. Do you experience this? If so, how do you overcome it? Thanks :)

JumbleofJargon: I have so many friends who think they don't have a curl pattern. I'm so happy I can share this with them and show them they actually do! Btw where'd you get those big colorful stretchy bands?

anna ghinzu: I tried a wash n go it was looking nice wet once it dried completely my hair started looking for stars ‍♀️

Queens Beauty Enigma: Finally someone with my hair type! So thankful!

Chrissyaliciaa: we have the same exact hair texture. cant wait to try this style for summer.

Christine: Finally a real 4C hair tutorial. God bless!

southern Charm: Just did a wash n go using this method Sunday. It came out just like this. The process was a little long but worth the results!! Thank you!!

karen horton: So great to see you! It’s been a minute...you’re looking happy and healthy so I imagine all is well with your new addition and family Your hair turned out really pretty. How do you feel about the No Shrinkage claim?

4000cdavis: I missed you!! Great results!! Your hair is looks so healthy and strong!

Simplistically Digital: Nice hair texture and the stretching method is a great idea. I will try it!

Sheen Boo: Yasss you hair came out so nicely

Machaiah Lillard: What should I type in on Amazon for the stretching bands? I want to make sure I'm getting the right ones!

Onyekachi Avajah: Definitely gonna try this!!!! loved the results, do you take the bands out once it dries or does it not matter?

Kathy Minter: Good job, your hair looks wonderful! !

J M: Real 4c hair. Thank you! Your hair looks great!

Steph: This is what I needed my hair is type 4 xy and z so I will be trying this!!!!!

Kweiki Kwapong: Would love to see what you do with your hair at night, and what you do as the week progresses to maintain your style

T.: This is exactly how my 4c hair looks for a wash n go. If I want it to look curlier I have to twist them

trhungerford: Omg I LOVE your hair and the technique I'll be doing this tonight

DanyGirl: This was Heaven sent, thank you so much

LaRica Grant: Your hair, look, personality are all Beautiful!!!

j.m: I never even thought of using bands literally genius

johanna phillips: That looks really nice

Gabrielle King: I love your hair I'm screaming GOALS!! #OurHairIsBeautiful

Jay-d ok: Damn I'm so in LOVE with natural black people's hair.... You all are cute with natural hair

faith croom: Finally a video with a title thats actually true Thank you!

Billie Alexander: Gonna try this next week (thank goddess for quarantine XD). When I FIRST jump out the shower the shrinkage isn't too bad, vs when it dries. It's about your length, maybe just slightly shorter so let's see if I can get it popping.

Adenike Dosunmu: Wow. I'm so doing this after my next wash. Thanks. Mwah

Niesha Chance: The flaxseed gel is MAGIC. I dont get good results with eco styler. Love your video!

Tanya Brooks: This is why my hair stays put under my weaves...I find natural hair to be tooooo time consuming...slap on a wip and go!...‍♀️

Tori Johnston: You did a good job

Lorraine Gregg: Thank you. I will give this a try. The bands is like doing the African Threading Method in a way. So wash & conditioner Leave in conditioner Flaxseed Gel Stretchy Hair Bands Air dry or hood dryer for faster time and I'm good to go The stretchy bands help me out so I don't have to put a 100 rollers rods in my hair. Your method is quicker and easier. Thanks, I will be doing this today. Happy New Year's!

johanna phillips: That looks really nice

Mar Georges: Going to try this method this weekend. But my hair never last or looks good the next day. How do you preserve this overnight?

jj fontana: Your hair is coming on so amazingly. Do you put oil in your hair with your leave in conditioner? And do you find the gel flaky? I have yet to try a wash "n" go Thanx in advance x

Onyx287: now this is good hair

HollyWood Batton: I find that wetting my 4c hair after detangling helps shorten the process and calls for less product.

Michelle Frazier: I was just about to send out a search party! Butttttt since you came with a peace offering . . .*this video* . . I'll call off the big dogs. Lol. Great video and results!

Iamyourbigestfan: No way!! I tried this and guess WHAT!?! , it actually WORKED!!!

Goldenrose 438: Did you dry your hair before or after you applied the leave in?

Be_loved: Great result! I'd like to try this can you tell me the name of the hair bands and where you got them. Love your videos simple and to the point.

Queen Toshe: Beautiful thick hair! Have you tried this method using more water as you go?

Symone Jenai: I'm new to doing wash and go's but this video was so helpful

Princess_trey_: This makes me want to try a wash n go one more time but I highkey know it's going to come out looking crazy

I am Kelsey: gorgeous hair!

Layla: Beautiful!

SlayTaee: This only took me about 1 hr or less to do . I got nervous I did it wrong but I have shorter and finer hair. I banded it let’s hope it comes it cute

Onyx287: how do you deal with detangling? my hair is can't be left alone or it tangles all around and i get impatient and starting combing which breaks it.

C M: Does it shrink throughout the day? And how does it respond to rain? I’m thinking of wearing my Afro out but I’m very sceptical of my hair

Francesca McKenzie: Is it okay to band your hair while it's still drying? I feel like that could wreck the curl pattern, but then I tend to use more water during my wash n go Great video still

Tiamoi Rowe: You have literally cured my depression!

Cindy Sobtafo: when she said 2 hours I coughed out my food, wow

EmrldTeddy007: Welcome back! You and your hair are so pretty! *Length check, please! Congrats in your newborn! How many does that make, 3?♥️

Miss desire Independance: How long does it last? It looks great

Intuitive Reading - By Priscilla: Theres somthing about your 4c that i like it's just nice....Try applying the gel on soacking wet hair while in the shower and dont shingle just rake it through takes 15min and your be good to go 2hr is way too long trust me you can achieve the same look in 15min

Veronica L: i wish i had the time & patience for this ! nice results tho

Camille Mccormick: Finally found a YouTuber with the same hair type as me

Nyah Ebanks: is there a specific website where I could find the stretchy hairbands? I have tried to look for them but I haven't found anything!

BeYoutifuL Greene: was your hair wet ? or you let it dry before you applied the gel ?

RonandHerm: Is this done on wet or dry hair?

shaeeda farquharson: This is how my hair is. When I look up 4c wash and go and it look nothing like how mines would look I get confused. But this video here I love it

ary kasso: 2 hours? Imagine shouldn’t have combed out my locs, I forgot how hard natural loose hair is.

jewelk chatman48: your coils are beautiful.love your hair

Zahria Frederick: Your hair is beautiful!!!

It’sJazzyHair: Omg thx I want to try this style! Where did you buy this product gel from?

YOURE THINKING IT: can't wait to try

CasuallyJan: Tried this and everything looking except my front parting so I had to put the front up in one. Do you band tightly to the root?

Jasmine: Does your hair tangle after wearing a wng? if so, how do you detangle?

Shenice Mathurin: How would you then go about washing your hair after wearing this out?

hureine point-dujour: Does your hair remain like this after it fully dries?

Lisa Nefertiti: How long did it take you to complete the look?

Ebony Wilkes: Is your hair still wet or did you apply the gel when your hair was dry? I’m used to everyone saying make sure your hair is soaking wet.

Cruzin330 Fraz56: Very nice video Thank You for sharing.

Vicky E: Life saver! Gotta get this gel & use your stretching method

Mo With That Glow: I used that too for mine and it came out ok. I’m going to try banding next time. Do you feel like that product on its own is enough without a cream beforehand? Some wash and go tutorials suggest using a leave in, then a cream, then a gel lol

Lysa Chara: Is your hair moisturized well after this? I am concerned about doing this for me because you didn’t use any moisturizers

beautxpain: Lovely result. How long do you keep this style before you wash again? And how do you maintain/refresh throughout the week please? X

Kirin: You should use water and a curling cream first. I believe the results would have came out a bit better

Brenda Naluyima: Your hair is lovely. Also I might have just learnt a new trick....stretching it while it is still wet....next wash and go

iAm NaomiTamar: I definitely am impressed by your hair I wish to do the same but mines will never come out right . What gel you used ?

Diplomat: Where do you get those stretch bands from?

w b: have you ever done bentonite clay rinse? Protective Princess did that to train her 4c wash n go, and me as well. it makes it faster because your curl trains before product is even applied. Also have you ever tried hair grease over 100% lanolin? i like the blue magic indian hemp. I began it 4 months ago and also stopped washing my hair. I just apply grease on the dry old hair, the lanolin, then wet from root to tip and lanolin, water, lanolin, water, and final seal with grease, then band my hair into fake "cornrows". every 3 weeks. My hair has begun growing 1 inch every 3 weeks since I do this, for the past 4 times. That's 4 inches in less than 4 months. I recommend it, I learned this from the african chebe women(they use grease, and never wash their hair)
