We Tried An Ionic Hairbrush To Tame Frizz And Flyaways

We tried brushing hair with an ionic hairbrush that claims to tame frizz and flyaways, resulting in smooth hair. The Portable Electric Ionic Hairbrush from Cool Trending Club is an ionic hairbrush that uses negative ions to smooth hair and add shine. We tested the ionic hairbrush on straight hair, thick hair, and curly hair to see if it helps tame static hair and frizzy hair.

We Tried An Ionic Hairbrush To Tame Frizz And Flyaways

On Instagram, I came across a shocking clip of this hairbrush that seemed to magically smooth away frizz flyaways static hair, and it was something I really wanted to try out. Datak is just really my number one enemy. So if there is this small, portable battery-powered brush, I can just pop in my bag and keep on me to really keep my static at bay. I mean that would be a game-changer. Throughout my entire life, I've always had a problem with frizz anytime there's like 10 % humidity frizz anytime, it's hot, and then I start to get sweaty for is anytime. I turn on the sink to brush my teeth. Frizz, it's just frizz all the time and it's pretty hard to maintain. Even if I do everything that I can the number-one rule of curly hair is never rush, your curly hair because it gets frizzy. So if this does work, then maybe I can break that rule. So it says on the box that has ionic care too smooth. To be honest, I have no idea what that means. I don't know too much about science or ions. Can someone tell me what an ion is? An ion is a positively or negatively charged atom. Positive ions open up your hairs, cuticles, which can be great for volume but can also lead to frizz and flyaways. The theory behind this brush is to add negative ions back into the hair in order to seal the cuticles resulting in smoother shinier strands. Okay. So it's kind of just like the brush head, there's no like handle here, she's smoke. There is an on and off button. So let's just turn this on. I don't know if it like me it's time to like charge the ions and stuff. You can hear a little bit of buzzing, so it's them. Hopefully this doesn't turn into it and fast, I'm honestly afraid to be holding it for safety reasons, I'm going to do my homework, so it says brush hair softly from root to tip pressing down for 10 to 15 seconds. It does sound very inconvenient because I think I take probably 10 seconds to you brush my entire head at the very very back of this booklet in tiny, tiny letters. It does say that the brush performs better when hair is slightly wet, but it also says immediately after do not use after washing hair and allow hair to dry sufficiently. So I'm gon na get my hair wet at all, because I'm frightened I'm gon na brush my hair with this brush on this side. First, to give it a fair shot at comparing with this brush and we'll see if either it does well or if neither does well or if I should just throw every brush I own away. This is why you don't brush curly hair, don't do it. So if you look, there is quite a bit of frizz still, especially at the top. I'M just gon na completely mess up my hair and get it all nice. This isn't helping at all. This isn't really solving the problem. One bit seeing as this did nothing to fix my hair and it still is mind of its own. I'M gon na go into the sky, so I'm gon na see if it does what I saw it do on Instagram we're just like magically attracted the hair. For some reason. That makes me think it's working if I see it causing some movement, I'm gon na feel like the ions are true. The ions are real. Oh okay! I see it like hi like just ever so slightly. It is not as dramatic as what you see online. It'S prizing lee the internet is not always true. I don't care what this thing says. This is just a regular brush and a regular brush its destructive. It'S like a little smoother. No, it's not. I lied, I'm a big liar I was. I was hopeful for one. Second, this has more of the shine to it and I guess you could say that it is smoother. There'S there's still some frizz like a tiny little bit compared to this side. This side is a lot smoother. This side has more volume, while this one is just more frizzy: okay, okay, surprisingly, that did help it's not sticking to my face anymore. My hair is very, very soft and very smooth on this side, and I see like no flyways or static electricity and on this side, like it's kind of calming down a bit because some time has gone by. But I can still see the static like all right here. Still it's like kind of clean to my face now. I'D definitely see and feel a difference. I'M going back to rule one and I'm never doing this again. Don'T do this by a regular brush. If anything don't do that, even I would say that it is very useful, especially compared to all of the other methods. I'Ve tried to use all the products that I've tried to put in my hair to prevent frizz, and this has been like not a perfect solution, but a better solution for what it is. It'S very compact, so I can just slip this in my bag and break it out when I need to most simply yes or no does this ionic hair brush work to tame static yeah it does I mean I definitely saw a difference using this brush, especially compared To a regular hairbrush, I do think that this ionic hairbrush does make my hair a lot smoother and tame my flyaways better than my usual go-to method of hairspray or a dryer sheet. However, I don't think the effects last for any longer than those other methods do. I do think I would like it a lot more if it not only got rid of my static, but also helped keep it at bay like throughout the entire day. I feel like. What'S the dog, that's not a poodle, but as the ears. What'S that Joe Cocker Spaniel, I feel like a cocker spaniel, you

Kylie Hutchison: This was cute...they think they have frizzy hair oh honey no I have frizzy hair

Sheikha: Dry brushing is NOT for curly/wavy hair whether it is ion brush or a 1 dollar brush. It was not surprising to see that happen to her hair. She lost her curl pattern.

um t: Static and frizz are not the same thing...

manda: the woman with the red hair isn’t brushing her hair right she’s basically ripping her hair you’re suppose to start from the bottom and go up if that makes sense and yes i have curly hair so i can kinda relate although my hair is way more curly than hers i still can

Sohini Barman: This is for the girl with maroon-red hair: 1. Don't wash your hair everyday. Shampoo twice in a week, your hair will get used to it and won't feel that greasy when this routine sets in. It will feel odd at first but just trust me, it will change your texture for good. 2. Oil your hair with castor oil. I know it's thick AF, almost like honey but it's worth it. It helped with mine for my dry hair soaked up the oil in like 10 mins. Keep your head soaked in castor oil (especially the roots, if not the scalp) and wash it off in the morning. Follow this routine twice a week, before shampooing. 3. Shampoo the scalp only. I know I said to dunk your hair ends in oil, but trust me, the shampoo lather will help in washing off whatever oil your hair hasn't soaked up. 4. Use hair serum/leave in conditioner on days when u don't use shampoo and don't wet your hair. 5. Sometimes the right haircuts help. I know I had a 'proper' haircut and that tamed my frizz a lot. I told my hairdresser to give me a haircut which will suit my face shape. He was incredible and the feather cut that he did on my head truly changed my hair for good. But before all that, try this hair oil routine. Only you can take your locks, cuts won't help your frizz if you don't help from within. I'm saying all this because I had EXACT hair as yours. Rough, frizzy, curly in the ends+relatively straight at the top. Today it's 70% straight, 30% wavy and the good wavy. I can brush my hair but it doesn't get *that* poofed up anymore. :)

kk1209: The video starts at 5:00 You can thank me now

Kitt: I can tell the girl with the red hair never brushes it, because holy shit, she doesn't know how! You can't brush your hair like that girl! You gotta start from the bottom up, small sections at a time and then move to the next section when that one is knot-free. You are just wrecking your hair like that!! Ughhhhh it was painful to watch. And you didn't give us any kind of review of the brush. It's not made to go through knots. It's made to reduce static and make your hair smooth.

Everyday Food Fix: The first girl's hair aren't frizzy at all.. it's silky smooth

Katie P.: ABBY I FEEL YOU!!! my hair is so damn thick and curly, whenever i go to get my hair cut they are like" dont come here anymore, it's too frizzy and thick." and im like WELL THEN FIX IT. I dont brush my hair and get reprimanded by EVERYONE

Sleepy Day: The girl with curly hair should have actually followed what the booklet said, thats why it didn’t do anything since the girl with straight hair that used it actually worked (I forgot their names...)

venus: I love how you used different hair types because I have wavy hair and most of the time it’s either thin, straight hair or thick,Natural hair.

JustLivingLife: I have a tip for anyone with hair prone to tangling, or thick and curly hair. Always start brushing from the ends of your hair, then work your way up. Ideally use a wide toothed comb to thoroughly (start at the ends) comb before brushing. Or use a detangler.

Maab Mohamed: you actually should brush curly hair (coming from someone with curly hair) as brushing your hair helps to stimulate your scalp and helps with hair growth. If your hair gets super frizzy when you brush it, i recommend brushing it when it's wet.

Jennifer Divine: As a curly haired girl, you can brush your hair just do it while your hair is wet and has product. I brush my hair with a flexy brush and there is no pain at all.

eri: I have a frizzy hair, so I bought this and damn was it amazing. It revealed the products I was using for my hair

Star Cherry: Aw I like frizz! It makes my hair look bigger! We've got to live with the elements anyways might as well find the way our hair reacts beautiful!

Amanda Nesbitt: So basically it only kind of works on very fine straight hair lol

Arwa: The brush wouldn’t do a good job on the girl with red hair ‘cause she has curly/wavy hair and to brush it it has to be wet. So brushing it dry would of course make it more frizzy.

Zeroş Şen: I feel like they should of grabbed a small amount of hair and brushed, I actually want to try this brush for myself. My hair is like the second girls hair, thick and wavy.

mimi wimi: The girl with the red hair was so negative towards trying it and didn't really with the booklet.

Sindy Doll: You can use tumble dryer sheets wipe on hair gets rid of frizz and flyaway hair and makes your hair small nice.

시린: What helps is after washing your hair and letting it dry (not completely) just till it’s damp but not wet. Then brush your hair then spray keratin.

Samantha Atkins: the woman with curly hair is DESTROYING her curl pattern and snapping apart cuticle!!! omfg....I have curly hair and watching that....hurt. NEVER dry brush dry curly hair!

infernal bunny: This ion thing sounds fake...not a beauty student here, but rather one that has taken a few chemistry classes. Hydrogen bonds are those that allow us to temporarily change our hair texture. Hydrogen bonds can be changed by straightening, curling, etc. and they are “reset” when the hair is moistened with water because water is primarily hydrogen. Ionic bonds can only ever be changed with perms, keratin treatments, and more invasive solutions that work by permanently changing the ionic bonds in the hair. Certainly not something a brush can do.

Cortney Koshman: Watching the girl with red hair made my scalp hurt omg. Thats not how you brush long hair! The tearing

star shine: I have the straight fly away hair like the first girl and would like to try this to see if it would help with the static electricity without having to use a dryer sheet

Wendy Winchester: What they don't tell you in the ad is that is synthetic hair, which is waaaaaay more staticy than real hair so the reaction is more dramatic than it would be with real hair.

Sally: the girl with the red hair should have done what the brush said to do.. try brushing slowly.. i think it would have helped but she didn't wanna try anything on her hair... too bad..

B Helou: Someone needs to teach the maroon haired woman how to brush hair in the first place. Honey, start from the bottom and take the tangles out first. Jesus

Swati Panigrahi: I think I'll definitely buy this as I have exactly the same hair as the girl with straight and fine hair

H. D: the curly-haired lady is right. I have thick curly hair. But I only brush when its wet cuz when its dry it causes frizz

Maricor alcuaz: i love koizumi reset brush i think you should do a review on it

imshinycaptain: Imagine thinking frizz and static are the same thing.

Quasar: They say on that Instagram it also works for afro hair, yet I've still not seen anyone showing those images, videos. This was cute but missing thicker, denser, curlier, kinkier hair types.

Deejay Garimi: The instructions say slowwwwwwly root to tip. Actually in images redhead had nominally less static on the ionic side. Plus split-ends are not flyaway. Heavy damaged ends are just really hard to control. As a wavy redhaired person, I use horse grooming products. And except my ionic/thermal 5 inch round boar-bristle on porcelain brush... use combs. BTW my goal is always to have my hair appear straight for larger part of the day. My profile pic has no hair product, simply slow brushed with my hi end groomers brush by Royal Blue Duchess (no longer available. They had a smoother that was to die for.. I wish I had bought a pallet!!) However this brush type is a NO! Brushes with those stupid scalp protector bubbles can ruin your hair if it is thick or curly!

Benny Guzman: I bought it just now I'm a guy with curly frizzy hair that gets frizzy over any little heat, I'll see if this actually works when my package arrives. Anyone else try it out ?

miles: i feel bad that a grown ass woman doesn’t know how to brush her hair

Not bad but not that great either: "thinks brushing will actually cause frizz" y'all worded it like it isn't true and that she's delusional

Erika Isabel: The girl with the red hair is so negative and doesnt know how to brush her hair she made me cringe so bad

ine mallow: My hair is just like Kyle's, but its medium blonde. Her heair is flattened on her head and you can't really see it, but when my hair does this it looks so oliy even if it's not.. Any tips?

Keats: I have actual curly frizz like the redhead. The other two had messy hair not frizz.

Floral: The ginger-haired lady is right about brushes being hard for curly hair and creating frizz, but please, just use a comb instead. I have curly/wavy hair and using a comb is so much better than having knots in your hair like she does. Also, don't yank the brush/comb through your hair, it'll destroy your curl pattern and rip your hair off! I highly recommend brushing/combing wet hair after you shower, then let it dry. Once it's dry, you're curl pattern will be untouched and silky smooth.

Melissa Alvarez: Moral of the story: this only works on pin straight hair...go figure

pink wixard: @ everybody who saying the red hair girl is "brushing too hard" y'all must not know what it's like to actually have curly and or coily hair. things such as brushes and combs doesn't glide through our hair. especially the thicker it is, bc if you know anything about hair that isn't thin or straight. your hair has the tendency to knot up quite a lot at the ends, hints why she's holding her hair closer to the roots so she can pull the brush through the slightly knotted ends. she has all rights to give a negative review for clearly they design this brush not having all hair types and texture in mind. quite literally everyone in the brushes ad have type A hair. idk why she even bothered showing up, getting a paycheck somehow ig

Ali K: None of them brushed their hair correctly in the first place. The ones girls red hair is so beautiful and shes just ripping it out starting at the top and pulling it to the bottom.

Stephanie Jasmin: The background was a mistake, everything looks fuzzier than it should be. but pretty informal. I do agree with IMayHavePiercedTheVeil. I think if the girl with the red hair brushed her hair first, it would've worked. its for frizzy not for tangles LOL plus, it would make the ion brush bristles last longer.

madrigal: Dryer sheets make your hair more frizzy and they make it feel greasy like you haven't washed it

刘凯琳: That first girl is so gorgeous And she has PERFECT hair

Kuro Kitsune: If you have thick curly hair, brush it right after washing it. Brush down, then brush both sides and back of the head towards the top of the head and then brush down again. This removes all fallen dead hair and hairs that are about to fall out. After that, leave your hair to dry naturally. I have thick wavy hair that is also frizzy and have fought bad hair since I was 11. I later in life found out that most frizz is actually curls and waves bouncing off each other after they've been brushed when dry. Brushing wet hair helps prevent frizz as the hair is straight while it is wet.

Energizer Erica: Way too much talking. I really just wanted to see them before, while brushing their hair, and after. I can actually freakin’ see that the ionic brush does not have a handle. I don’t need someone else to tell me that. WTF.

yo mama: video starts at 5:15 thank you

ava montesino: The first girl had great hair in my opinion. Especially compared to mine.

Zoey Oryinn: Video starts at 5:10

Ellie Ruiz: Curly hair CAN and NEEDS to be brushed. If you don’t do it it’ll knot and mat. The only thing is, you don’t do it while dry. You wet your hair and use hair product, that way it won’t break the curls and make it look like you just did to yours.

Kirsten Röhrs: Very helpful! Thanks!

Becca Hochanadel: The girl with the red hair wasn’t giving the brush a fair chance. She should have brushed her hair on both sides first. Then go through with a tiny section at a time and go very slowly as if your straightening your hair. That’s how to get it to work

Sol Lillemoen: What I do to get rid of static in my hair is I just get the brush wet and comb my hair with it.

Justin William: Chelsea, I can relate to ya... Any time I sweat FRIZZ and it doesn't help that I sweat like a pig

Ruth M: That brush will get swallowed into the abyss known as my a-frizz (afro +frizz) and will never see the light of day again. In related news, hair oil and a decent brush will also work. Nice looking product though

Gongaga: So is static charge created by ions then? (I didn’t exactly know what created static charge in real depth or anything. I’ve wondered, but am too lazy to look it up.) If so. I’m guessing that the anions give the extra electrons to the cations I’m guessing. Causing all of the atoms to become neutral. Getting rid of static charge. And I’m cringing so badly at the girl with the red hair. Hearing all of that lovely hair being ripped to pieces...

Jessie Webster: The point is to remove frizz from static not to remove frizz from curly hair

sarah: The REAL test is to test it on my hair ;) (I have veryyyyy curly and frizzy hair)

Shilloe: I broke my handle of my hair brush and currently using it like that.

Scarlett O'Hara: So relate to frizz, especially in humidity lol

Ana J: My gosh that short haired girl is GORGEOUS . Looooove her haircut .

methkathinone: Please try it on people with hair that's really frizzy, not with hair that's already maneagable.

Carol Michael: It should be used on wet hair to keep it tamed... The curly girl did it the wrong way this is why it didn't work... If it's already dry it'll do nothing

ABA მეგზური: Static can easily be fixed by a wooden comb.

Madelyn G: Step 1: have straight, fine hair

MJ Z: This is for static, not frizz. They’re not the same thing! Overpriced fail.

Alonso Molina: Red hair girl being negative, then the woman with short hair brushed it and it looked okay but they made it seem as it didn’t, the other hair with straight hair wast even brushing it she was pulling it like outwards literally doing both

Bouncing Bunny: I like how half of the comments are bashing the red-haired woman for brushing her hair improperly (not because she’s brushing it roughly but because she’s going from scalp to ends) when most of you have been probably brushing it this way for years until you’ve seen recently that you had to go from bottom up. Talk about hypocrisy smh.

monzorella1: Here's a thought, why is fizzy a huge deal?

Dana-Marie Parris: People who say don't brush curly hair..clearly have never brushed curly hair lol. Just brush it while it's wet and has products, by the time it dries you get back your curls and it's not knotted. NEVER brush it dry though..that's all lol

Former Things: Omg I'm dying a little inside watching the curls get brushed

Reveluv LP: This video relized me that insider more better than before ,hope fully in next video still like this this is very funny and cool

Scarlett O'Hara: Leave in conditioner is good for static hair

little bunny Big bear: Us curly hair people:we can use this on our dry hair wtf

Jbird1200: I have very curly hair and I only brush my hair when it’s wet I use lots of conditioner

bjulia33: 5:30 OH sis!! STOP please. Do not RIP any pronged hair utensil through your curls root to tip, idc wet, damp or dry!!! LISTEN hon: buy Pantene Pro-V Conditioner and a plastic, wide-tooth, I said WIDE-tooth, big comb. In shower leave in Pantene for couple minutes and then starting at the TIPS and working your way UP slowly, use comb to patiently disentangle small sections of hair. Rinse completely. Good luck!

Aadya Khatavkar: I am a science student and I can say for sure that "charging the ions" is not a thing Atleast not what you're trying to say

Esmeralda Jai: I would kill for straight hair... Got these tight curls and frizz that no product in the world can tame. This brush will do f**k-all for me.

Iridescent Pink: They start using the brush at 5:06

Ali Raafat: I think it’s just for people with extremely soft hair

freshbaguettes: Chelsea is actually stunning I'm so jealous

Joy Hall: I ordered this product I have frizzy hair it did nothing for my hair by some reason they send me two of them refused to send me a refund out 40.00 not happy don’t buy this it does nothing but brush your hair

Dalbir Singh: I have that from target and only costed $4

Disha: Only for extremely straight here... But curly hair have no benefit of it

Nirzara: The creator of the video did a much better job than the brush

Fun world.: I also tried that experiment but doesn't work. It has little result for my hair.

Lovely Smiles: THIS IS NOT FRIZZY HAIR THIS IS FREAKING STATIC CLIIIICKBAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!

Isabella Kim: People think having a lot of hair equals thick hair. A lot of the times people have thin hair but a lots of it .

Mary Ellen Flannery: Yes! You are not supposed to brush curly hair

Anna Doll: Okay, but follow the directions if you're going to try a product.

Karen R: I really enjoyed this video because of the sound effects and because my hair is always super frizzy and cause I’m 12

i_bleed_ makeup: Poor Chelsea. Her hair is WAY too frizzy and curly to have that hairstyle. If her hair was longer the issues she's having wouldn't be as bad.

Shtbk: Omg that asian girl is soooo pretty!!!!!!

RK P: Will the brush heats our hair?

Luis Goicochea: Can someone tell the red hair girl that if she wants to have defined curls, OBVIOUSLY you don't brush curly hair, you put combing cream on it and push it gently from bottom to roots , like that's rule number one on curly hair care

skee: The hair literally looked the exact same. They are saying it helped knowing damn well it didn’t.
