Fabulous Bow Making Jig

Last week I drew my husband a rough sketch of a bow-maker that I wanted and what he came up with was gorgeous and worked so well! I told him, "you know, whenever you make me something people want to buy it so can you make more?" and he said YES, so they are available for purchase here: http://www.shophandmade.com/Item/6-758...

I can't stop making bows with this fun tool! Don't you think Mr. Frugalcrafter did good? I do!

Hi there Lindsay err. The fergal crafter I'd have to show you what my husband made me. It is a bow jig. He calls it the bow jig now is this funny cuz. I have to show you what I gave him for a UH for an instruction. I said honey. I really liked have like a piece of wood with a bunch of holes in it, listen dowels! I can stick in the holes and I want them spaced about an inch apart except the ones on the end. I want 1/2 inch apart so that I can make bows and - and I want 4 dowels - I can you know, stick in there on a wall for at least need three, but you know 4, just in case I lose one. I guess - and this is what I gave him, and this is what he made me now. I was envisioning just uh, you know hunka, you know, 2x4 was holes in it. He made me this beautiful, bow. Jig, it's got a cherry base um. I got some paper scraps in there already um. Then it's got walnut and maple. That'S maple, that's walnut inlays and it's mounted on a em on a piece of birch plywood. This little part here's birch plywood. This is cherry underneath and I think it's so cool the way he routed it and then he he oiled it and it kind of looks like micarta or mock ooh. I can never Sarah it's at polymer clay thing where you like slice off layers of clay, but anyway I was so excited and I'm happy to report that it works. So this is how you work it um. If you want a really teeny tiny bow. You put your your dowels together like that, so that would be there like half an inch apart. So if you want to make a really tiny bow, if you want to make an inch apart, an inch bow, you could put the two together and the inch slots and after that you can make bows graduating for a half an inch or an inch more. So this would be an inch and a half two and a half three and a half four and a half. Of course, if you want, for you, know, just move it in there all the way up to six inches. So I just thought that was really really cool um, so I'm gon na show you how easy it is to use um the first. The first thing I'll show you is a basic bow and I've got this just wide ribbon here and what you want to make this one a little bit bigger. So this would be one two three and a half inches. You want to put the bow put the ribbon across the front two pegs here and, if you see probably see me do this with clothespins before and that works really well, except sometimes bigger ribbon, it just wants to tip it. So this is how it looks from the front um. You are always facing your bow from the back. So then in the back here or just get a criss cross applesauce. These bow these um these strands and we're going to take one piece and going to bring it over the piece you bring over. I think, if you kind of fold the edges in it kind of keeps it turned the right way around. So this is a ribbon. That'S only colored on one side, so it'll show, if you like my ribbon flops around so then, when I pull it back about that nice, nice flat knot in the middle and you can squish it together. You can fold in half if you want a smaller knot in the middle, so that's what it looks like and then on the back I'll, just flip it over. So you can see what I'm doing here on the back. All I got ta do is tie this in a knot, so just a plain old knot here, so think of how easy it's gon na be to make Christmas presents for me this year or you know. If I want to make bows for Christmas tree now, I could tie it again if I'm worried about that letting loose. But I really don't think it is so I pull it forward and adjust a little knot in the middle which kind of compressed a little bit, which I could fluff out fluff out a little bit. If I want - or I didn't have to pull it so hard. If I wonder really fluffy knot in the middle um, so I just make sure that centered then slide it off. My pegs see how easy it is to move those out and then we've got our cute little bow. So when you just adjust your tails and then to do an easy B notch, you hold both strands or your bow together and then fold in half and my camera at a weird angle. So I want to make sure that you can see what I'm doing fold it in half and then simply snip it at an angle. Just make sure the middle of your um of your ribbon is um, then you're cutting in from the middle and then you've got a cute notched bow as easy as can be alright. So you see that now so funny my daughter said I would make a bow mom. That looks cool first time she made this yeah looks pretty awesome and then second time she made this with some seen biting so I mean hey, anybody can do this. It'S a stick with some some dowel: it's a diesel wood wasn't dial, isn't it and snazzy okay. So the other cool thing about this is that you could use one of the tags to be a as a kind of spool holder. So here I've got my seam, binding and um. I think I want to make a bow. That is, I think, I'll, do a a boat with several loops that inch and a half two and a half I'm trying to figure out how big I wanted this. I think was that's probably an inch and a half, let's like that, okay. So to do that, it's very easy! You just want to wrap it around as many times as you want loop. So let's see, there's like okay, one two three, so that would give us a three a bow with three loops on the back. I'Ve got my ribbon there coming out, and I love how I can even slide a little bit. I can wiggle with it. If I didn't pull out quite enough now, I'm gon na snip the ribbon from the spool. This would be really good for mass-producing. Again, I'm gon na crisscross my ribbon and pull one around the front. This is colored the same way on both sides. So I'm not even going to worry about pinching it or anything, and then just tie it in a knot again, just like we did on the just like we did the first one and I'm going to slide it off and cut a really cute double looped bow. I actually triple loop bow and then, when I'm adjusting the bow, what I usually do is I will pull. I will leave the one on top in the middle me to zoom in a little bit for for this here I will leave the one on top in the middle and I'll pull the bottom one out there and I'll pull the top one out. So then I they kind of lay flat and then again you've got to them all. Here there we go and then you got your triple looped bow there. I think maybe this one ought to tuck down and go underneath. Then again you cannotch the edge the ends. Bevel the edges, whatever you want, fluff your bows: whatever floats your boat with your bows so nice, I thought that was super fun. I also want to try this with grosgrain, because I hadn't whoops hadn't tried this with grosgrain. Yet I'm going back so you can see that um. So you can also put a couple different ones on here at the same time and it's kind of cool how you can go different sizes of ribbon. What I'm going to do for this one. I think I'll. Just do let's do a regular bow for this, because I tend to make grove green ribbons just kind of normal, so I think I'll actually just trim off my my ribbon and again I'm going to just crisscross it in the back, pull it around the front and Tie it and they not so once you get the hang of it, it's so very easy. So I asked my husband, I said you know honey, you make me some cool stuff and I show it and then everybody wants to buy some. So would you consider building some of these and I could put them up in my shop handmade shop and he said well: do you think anyone would really want to buy it? I mean it's a piece of wood with some holes in it. They can make it like yeah, but this is snazzy and it's got fancy wood with it. So, if anybody's interested, I am gon na put these up in my shop handmade shop, they will be made to order. I mean, if you want this one I'll sell that one and then I'll have him make me another one, but but they'll be made to order they'll be very similar. If you have a special request for a certain type of wood, obviously we should be able to do that too um. And if you have any questions, you can send me a message through YouTube or through my blog or whatever, but I just think that's so fun and so easy and you can handle all kinds of different um different ribbons on it. So that's what my husband made me this week and if you want him to make you one, then I'll put a link below to the shop handmade shop where you can find it um. I think 20 bucks plus shipping. Thank you very much for watching until next time happy crafting

Tammy Byrdhouse Junction: Love your bow maker. Makes bow making so easy. My hubby tries to hide when he sees me coming with a scrap piece of paper with a drawing on it. But he hasn't failed to make my simple drawings come to life. We are so lucky to have them.

Kristin Arnett: Hello Lindsay! I just had my husband make me a bow-making jig like yours. It's not quite as fancy but works like a charm. Thanks for posting the video!

Michelle: Such an old video, but a wonderful one! My dad made me one based on your Husband's design, I hope that's alright! He even stained it a shiny brown, haha overkill! Thanks so much for this!

Renee luera I like designing crafts to: I really liked the new way of making bows you showed how you cut the paper no glue or tape awesome idea.

Dexy83🇺🇦: THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!! I have watched entirely toooo many bow making videos in the last 24 hours. I even bought a [USELESS] "top rated" bow maker that has poorly written, half info instructions and multiple vids that lost a lot of newbie info in order to be short. Your instructions are the clearest and easiest to follow, so again, THANK YOU!!

Lindy Sellers: Wow, Lindsay! Whatever you are doing in regards to algorithms on YouTube, keep doing it! This was in my recommend feed, and I watched it!...7 years later. I had one of these for my daughter too!

Marji Miller: Thanks for sharing! I have one very similar to this that I bought to make the pew bows for my daughter's wedding. In a recent purge I put it in the trunk of my car with some other stuff to donate. Sorry to say that after watching this video, I reclaimed it!

Sylvia Rivera: That's cool! I like how you put the spool of ribbon on the end dowel, it makes it easier to measure out how much you need. Nice tip.I showed my hubby a glue gun holder made out of wood and he made it for me. Isn't it great when they are supportive with our hobbies. Question, where do you buy your seam binding in a spool? Thanks for sharing your wealth of crafty goodness.

Becky Nelson: Mrs Lindsay I purchased a bow maker. I have been so scared to use it. I followed ur instructions and it came so easy to me. Thank u so much!!!!

Jeanie Ferretti: Very cool idea. I think I will go to my Husbands shop and make me one. Thank you

Tasha Kendall: Ordered! Can't wait for mine to arrive here in the UK :) What a clever hubby you have...

msmartinigirl1: How nice of your husband to make that for you!

Al Canales: $20 for the bow jig is a bargain! My wife wanted me to make her one so I had to buy a saw. Then a drill press. Then a laser light to make straight and accurate cuts. Then, of course, the wood and dowels. By the time it was all over, it would have been less expensive to fly you to southern California and make the bows for my wife's project! It was all fun, though. Thanks for the instructions.

icatstaci77: The Frugal Woodworker did a great job!

Debbie Buckland: I have one that a family member gave me... Didnt know how to use it properly... Thank you!

Susan Bredehoft: I know this video is a little over two years old. I was wondering if your bow maker is still for sale. Thanks! I love your videos...and it is especially nice to be able to craft and not always spend a fortune!

effie924: I went and dug out some ribbon and I made a few on my Bow Jig and had a blast it is so easy ! thank you !!

Zoila Rivera: Thanks great video and to Mr. Frugalcrafter, Thanks great job, that's very kind of you.

IntoxicatingArts: Wow, that looks way easier than my bowdabra!

Bejay Roles: That's so cool...clever Mr. Frugal. Much as I'd love to buy one, with the shipping to the UK it's way out of my price, however, I do have a power drill and saw, so I may attempt to make one myself...you'll most likely hear the scream over your side of the pond lol

Dexy83🇺🇦: I'm back... I struggle sooooo much with bringing both tails going in the same direction. Today, it has actually reduced me to tears. Back to watching, on repeat, again.

Judy Baranczyk: My husband made one almost the same.

Sherlock Hoka: You're husband is just great.  Wish I had a crafty husband.  And I just paid big money for a Zutter bow maker several weeks ago.  Drat it all.  I could have gone with your husband's.  Great little video.

Ana Marija: you're the best crafterrrrr ever!!!!!!!!!

Angee Wells: Nice job. Mr. Frugal crafter.

Karen Young: Just ordered. Can't wait to get it. This is just what I have been wanting but I have no one to make one for me. Please thank you hubby for me.

Secret Siren: Wow! That's a very nice piece of wood working. My husband is not handy so if your husband is selling them please let us know!

Linda DeChow: I love this one, it's so pretty!  I made one years ago, but not half so nice as this.  Lindsay, I'm having trouble logging on the shophandmade site.  I can't seem to create either a new signin or signin when I do add an account.  Would you invoice me via paypal?

linda foltz: I would love one of theses but I don't have wood or the money to buy the stuff to make one or to order one :( ahhhhhhh me and my daughters would have a blast

Heidi Marcotte: Dear Lindsey, You have made my craft days very fun indeed! Do you still sell tthe bow maker? I live in maine and wondered where your shop is. I would like to visit sometime. can I get a wheelchair in? that is if you still have a shop. Thanks,Heidi
