Hi there it's miss Ellijay, your pageant, coach and pageant consultant. Part of my job is hair and makeup styling. Today I thought we would start our three-part series on hair pieces, hair pieces of a really big commodity in the glitz worlds these days. So it's really important that you know what you're getting into how to style them and what it all means. First, off, let's make a quick definition: a hair piece is a piece of hair that you put in addition to your own hair on your head. A hair accessory is something like a jewel that will help accessorize your outfit. I get a lot of questions about hair pieces when really moms mean hair accessories, so if you're looking about, if you're looking to find a youtube tutorial on hair accessories, this is not for you. You might want to visit Sam moon or Claire's for that they have. The good stuff, now that we've defined, that let's jump right in into part one we're going to learn about different types of hair pieces, the kinds you can get, how the match them and all different good information about, buying, finding and receiving your hair piece. So, let's jump right in and start with, hair pieces, human hair and synthetic hair. I'M always going to advise you, no matter what the price or competition level your app to buy human hair. Why? Because synthetic hair is fake hair, you cannot style it color it or use it, and it does not look like real human hair. You cannot use hot tools like irons and curling irons. You can't use the same kind of tools and styling products and it doesn't look like it doesn't hold up like human hair. They are usually cheaper, actually almost always cheaper, because it's not real hair, but that doesn't mean that you're getting a bargain. Let'S say you use your synthetic hair piece three times and it was half the price of your human hairpiece. Well, if you continue to use it, that hairpiece is going to deteriorate much faster than human hair and it can't really be fixed because the hair just falls out. It'S not real hair guys, it's not gon na maintain like ours. You cannot wash it color it. I say these things again, they're very important. So if you're a newbie trying out a hair piece, you can try a synthetic hair piece, but after the first time, you're gon na notice, it's gon na break and fry. The only styling tool that you can truly use on a synthetic hair piece is rollers and sure we use rollers all the time in the pageant field. That makes a lot faster for us to do hair and makeup and easier on the little ones. But when you want something that looks like real hair and you want it to be over the top, you start teasing that and spraying it it just gets messy, so synthetic hair might be cheaper, might be easier to get your hands on, but guys don't do it. If you're gon na use synthetic hair, try it out for your first pageant just to see if you like a hairpiece, and if you can manage your hairpiece, then I would go ahead and invest the money into human hair. It'S gon na last a lot longer gon na look a lot prettier and be easier to keep up with plus a lot of hair and makeup. Artists have a harder time, styling synthetic hair pieces because you can only use rollers, that's a really taut. It doesn't. That'S a really big time disadvantage for a hair stylist, and you want your child to look the best that they can. So, let's talk about human hair pieces now human hair pieces are real hair, guys just like ours. Most of them are 100 % remy Indonesian hair. These women grow out their hair for years, sometimes seven to ten years for religious reasons, then they cut or shave off their hair. That hair is then donated and bought out by third-party companies and distributors that laid like two so into and make hair pieces sewn all over the world sell sold all over the world. So with that being said, if it's like human hair, it can be styled and used like human hair, you can wash it braid, it diet use any kind of hair product or tool that you would on your own hair. The only thing you can't do is grow. It so that's why, even though it's more expensive than a synthetic hair piece, it's going to be more advantageous to you, because you can use it longer and do more styles with it and, as we all know, our hair changes even without dyeing it. Our human hair does change with sunlight with allergies and change in body hormones. So over time you can have your hairpiece and change the coloring and change the texture by coloring, straightening and curling. I always always advise to get human hair, so there we've established the big of the to synthetic versus real. Now we can talk about the different types of hair pieces. There are all different kinds, so I won't be able to talk about all of them, but briefly I'll mention some of the ones that are the most common for babies in the glitz world. We like to use a baby cap, it's essentially just a cap that goes around the head. That looks like a natural hairline. It has a little pony tail and you can clip a different hairpiece on top. Bangs are also used for babies as well that have hair. They can make into a pony tail, but don't have the front for the pouf clip-in bangs are really great, they don't hurt and you don't have to braid or glue them in if you can guys try not to ever glue hair into your own scalp or your Own hair, it's just gon na pull out that hair that you already have even professionals. It'S really hard to do trust me. I used to do that all the time and it ruined my hair. So if you can get a clip-on or something to pull over the head for your baby, do that first and really the little ones they're cute enough guys, okay, so for babies, we've got baby caps, clip-in, bangs and many way. Let'S you can also do a mini fall, a mini fall is just a little part. That'S gon na make your hair look longer and fuller. It can go on top of your real hair, with your real hair underneath it or you can blend it in with your real hair on the bottom and on the top mini just means smaller or shorter. So if you've got a baby or a child under the age of four or five, depending on how much hair they have, you want a mini, fall or a mini wiglet. Okay, now we've got a maxi fall, a maxi wiglet and a cascade. A cascade is going to be a side style, so it's like a long strip, that's one of the ones. I don't have sorry guys. I can't show you, but it's a long strip of hair and the strands on the bottom are shorter and the strands on the top are longer, so you can curl it into that side. Do I know you all have seen and loved now we can talk about. Let'S see where is it this right here is a mini wigglin, I'm going to show you the inside okay, see how it says real. Can you see that it's a little blurry? It says real right there, real collection, that's the brand that I normally get from. My distributor a hundred percent human hair of Indonesian or origin piece made in China, so it's Indonesian here, like we talked about that's what you want and the piece was sewn and put together in China. That'S normal! If you can see, hopefully that it's got a lace backing, but no wires and a little comb that you would stick right in so see, I'm gon na just stick it right in my hair, and it will stick up like that, so this is smaller. This is your mini wiglet and there's no wire in it. Let'S go ahead and bring out B maxi. This is a maxi wire based wiglet. Now I'm gon na pull it like this. So you can see what this amazing hairpiece does. It will cover your little ponytail bump that you'll make or your little bun, and you can kind of spread it out here, see what I'm doing to give you more hair now. The only thing you have to be careful with this is that this hair, like you, can see now. This has been used quite a few times now, but it's still in great condition on the on the outside. The hair starts to pull out so every once in a while, especially after you wash it or style it guys. You want to push those rosettes back in and push all the hair pull it to get it out. Why is it on a wire base? It'S on a wire base because it holds more hair. It'S not as heavy, not gon na fall over and, like I said you could spread it out to give yourself more hair and more coverage. Some girls have a lot of hair like the older girls. Have a lot of hair, but they don't really want to sit there for hours and have you do their hair and makeup so using this as really advantageous, because your stylist can go ahead and style it for you before the pageant even begins like the night before, Like a lot of us do okay, so this is your mini and your maxi. This is a wire based. You can also get a maxi lace space like this guy right here. It'S gon na give you more hair, but not as much as this. So if you're wanting a very, very big updo go ahead and get this maxi wire race, this is not for little ones. Okay, this is for seven and up unless they've got a larger head, because this is gon na cover a lot of space. Guys, okay, see the difference of the circumference here, big difference. Okay, this is gon na give you just what you need. Okay, it's gon na. Give you a great look great full look. This would be for an updo or half do both of these guys. So you would pin your hair back with a little pouf or side and front and stick this on top okay, very advantageous to style again so go ahead and use this one they're cheaper, they're, easier to buy because there's more of them around they last just as Good as these, these are really for a national level and girls that want a really big look or don't have a lot of hair, older girls, okay, so there's those and I've got another wire base in a lighter color. Just so, you can see how much beautiful hair there is see it's just sewn in there. What'S really nice about the wire base. Is you can't see the seams as well as you can see the seams on a lay space? So, there's that, okay and again, we've got our real tag. That'S how you know guys: okay, okay, now we'll talk about a fall. You'Re gon na have a few different types of falls. This one is a maxi fall, I believe it's 20, 18 or 20 inches long in the bottom, so this is also for a bigger girl. The girl who owns this and I'm using it. Thank you for letting me use it um. She is six and she's got a larger head and a lot of her own hair, so we're able to blend this in with her hair and use it that way. Okay, so let's got that real tag, very important guys. This also has a comb in it. Lots of beautiful hair and it's a lace base. I don't believe they make wire wig lids. I think that would be very uncomfortable. These are my favorite because you can do it down. Look with this or in half updo. You can even do the pouf and do everything with this and just a little bit of your own hair. It really covers all of your human hair so again very advantageous to style. You can do a lot of things with this braided bun it twists it curl. It okay! So that's what that looks like this is a maxi, a mini or baby fall. It'S gon na be much shorter. Okay, I also want to show you you need to get yourself a foam head and sub T pins, T, pins and foam heads. You can both get at Sally's Beauty or order online from pageant hub. You want to find the comb that will be the front, there's your piece and stick it right under the comb, so you don't get it in there and when you're, rolling or styling it you're gon na want a lot more pens because, like you see they move, But this is a great way to keep them. You can add a weight underneath the foam head and it will keep it from falling over hair pieces tend to get very heavy once you have the rollers on them. I just want to show you real quick. This is a synthetic. I believe this was a Jessica Simpson brand that I bought a long time ago. You'Ll see on here. I know you can't see, but I'm gon na read it to you: a hundred percent synthetic fiber made in Japan. Okay, see the difference of this guy and how ratty it looks and how you can see all the seams. This is not real hair. This is not real. Hair looks like it's synthetic hair, okay and it's used just very similar way to a human hair fall, but this is really not gon na. Do you any good guys? Okay, look. It just looks bad, and this is me keeping it very well-maintained. Okay, so, like I said, if you're gon na use synthetic, try it once just the seeds, you like a hair piece, then invest the money into a human hair. Last thing, I'm gon na show you our tracks. Now some tracks come without the combs on them and you have to sew them in yourself. Some tracks you glue in, like I said before, try not to use glue in tracks. Okay, guys it's very dangerous for your scalp in your own hair, we'll pull it right out. So these you just part your own hair, tease it at the base a little bit slide them in and clip them. I use these every day on my own hair. Obviously not this color, but you can get them in different sizes and different colors. You can blend them very easily and dye them. Okay. These have been cut to whatever length I wanted it for whoever I was using them for, and sometimes you can just get the long track without the combs put in them and cut them where you want them, glue them on the side and then you'll have it Perfectly to fit your head: okay, like this one right here would be used for the side and the front, and this would be in the back okay, so I hope that helps you a little bit how best to match it. You say: okay, so if you find a dealer like I use, looks for less on Facebook she's a great lady. Thank you for all of your hairpieces that you've been able to sell to us, send a couple of pictures, maybe three front of hair middle of hair. In sunlight and dark on stage, because hair has all different colors in it and they have key rings that they can go through and look at what color matches work best for you. Some hair pieces aren't available in certain colors and some run out very quickly like the blonde blondes and the strawberry belongs those run out very very quickly. You can also check Facebook resale groups for hair pieces. There is one that we go to all the time. Make sure guys that your mind human hair piece and then you get pictures of the hair piece, how it looks now not when it was bought, because that's no good for you. If it's been used, you want to know how it looks right now and so locks for Less on Facebook. She can match you Kimmel Ashok's. She can match you as well baby dolls, Ashley Mart's she can match. You also send them pictures and look for facebook resell groups. You can also go into a hair or a wig salon or store there's a lot of them all over the place. I live in Houston and we've probably got hundreds of them going there tell them what you're looking for a wig, lids a fall cascade and the size mini maxi or baby. You can also do the bangs. If that's a look that you're looking for also or tracks with combs, if you have here - and you want a little bit more volume and your stylist can work with you - those tend to take a little bit more time, but you can roll those separately as well. Just like you put a hairpiece so make sure that you get a good match in color and don't ever be afraid to send the hair back before you open it. Okay, when it comes to you, it's going to come in a plastic package with the real hair or the brand around it inside. If it's brand-new with a net, it will look curled and natural, but not if that's how you know that it's brand-new okay tags should still be on it. It will say the color the type. The item are n number and something about the distribution center. I'M showing the name of the company or something like that. So that's how you'll look, how it'll look when you get to it. Human hair pieces range in all types of prices and styling. So that's really something that you would have to ask your distributor. But for me I know I've gotten human hair Falls brand-new for about 125 to 250 dollars. It depends on the collection, how many pieces, how many pieces of hair it's in the. If it's a maxi M & E, how long the color it really does depend. So we really have to reach out to your distributor and ask them about press questions. Something I forgot to add, too, is you're. Gon na use these hair pieces for pictures as well. Glitz pictures portfolio pictures, sometimes you're, going to use them so make sure you take really good care of them. Okay, Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo, with a little bit of conditioner Tresemme, is my favorite at the ends, give it a cut every once every six months, only if it needs it, keep it in one of your pageant boxes in a safe place, brush it out after You'Ve used it try to keep it in really good shape. What I like to do with mine is brush them out after I've had a pageant, you don't have to wash it every time. Dirty hair is the best kind of hair and I just roll it real soft and bun it I'll, pin it with bobby pins. Try not to use elastic bands like we do our own hair. It makes creases and stuff. So there you go. That'S all I have to talk about for part one check in for part two on how to style these bad boys, bad boys thanks guys, bye,
