Hi everyone welcome back to my channel and today's video I'm going to show you how I professionally touch up my roots and tone. My hair then very highly requested. Every time I do a video in the salon doing someone else's hair, there's always at least a handful of people asking like. No, we want to see how you do your hair colors. So here it is so today I'm just going to be showing you how i touch-up the root and how I tone the hair so a touch of my roots every 4 weeks, and when I do that, I also tone the rest of my hair and then every 8 weeks, I add a baby light to the root so thumbs up on this video. If you guys want me to show you how I do the baby light on myself as well in about 4 weeks, so everything I'm gon na be using on my hair today is obviously going to be by redken. I'M gon na be using the new redkin color gel lacquers and I'm gon na be mixing that with ten-volume and for my roots. Today, I'm going to be going in with the level 8 and a and when I'm doing just the roots, I go in with a level 8. When I go in and do the baby light on the root, then I go in with a 6 and 8, and the reason for that is because of the 6 and 8 is obviously darker than the 8, and it gives it a little bit more contrast when I do a baby light so now for this session, since I'm not adding a baby light, I want just a little bit more lift and that's why I go in with the level 8 and then for toner, I'm going to go in with shades eq in the Level o9p and then i'm going to be mixing that with a shades, eq processing solution, red can also came out with a thicker formula for the processing solution. I might be using that today, just so that it's slightly less drippy as I apply it. I absolutely love having this as a formula option, so this one makes it just a lot run year, which is great if you are toning at the shampoo bowl and you want great manageability and just really saturate the hair really evenly really quickly. But when I'm working on my hair - and it's not what I just preferred to go in with this one here, alright, so let's just get into the video and show you step by step. I will also go ahead and leave all formulas in that. Just box down below okay, so for today's formula, I'm going to be using the level eight and a and I'm gon na be doing one and a half ounces of that and one and a half ounces of the ten volume developer. So I'm just gon na go ahead and mix that so, just like I would with any client. I just divide the hair into four quadrants straight down the back and behind the ear I also have to apologize. I was at a shoot yesterday and we had a ton of product and a ton of stuff in my hair. So if my hair looks extra kinky and just extra texture II at the ends, it is because of that and of course not forgetting to put on your gloves, it's like a black on black on black day today, alright. So when I start to apply the color, I like to do the perimeters of the hair first of that section and that just ensures even saturation and it just helps you keep your kind of areas and sections a very clean. So, starting up at the part there and then just grabbing about a half inch or 3/4 of an inch sections and applying color to that route, bringing it down so once I have that section completed, I bring that hair down, keeping it pretty loosely. You don't necessarily want the root color to touch the rest of the hair, so then kind of coming over to the other side and doing the exact same thing. Okay, so now that we have the two front sides down, we are going to be moving on to the back so again, working on the perimeters first and then grabbing cross-sections, all right. So once the roots are all evenly saturated, we are going to let process for about 20 minutes and then I'm going to apply it toner. So for today's toner formula, I'm gon na be using the red khun's shades eq and the shade i'm gon na be using is oh 9 p, and I'm gon na use that alone. Today and normally I would either mix kind of with a oh 9 n and with some crystal clear, just to kind of dilute it a little bit and keep it really really bright. And since we are heading into fall, I do want something. That'S still kind of pearlescent, but that is going to bring the blonds just a little bit and also to complement the roots that we have done. So I'm going to be doing an ounce and a half of that. And then an ounce and a half of the processing solution? Alright, so when you have just about 5 minutes left, you applied the toner and once the time is up, you are all ready to shampoo everything out alright. So I actually I'd like to start toning in the back or kind of these side pieces where I feel like there's a bit more of a warmth and so just start applying that all over just because around the face and because I have more of that, teardrop Balayage around the face, I definitely want to keep the brightness. So that's why we're doing that last? I'M living out the ends just because the ends tend to be a quiet, a bit more porous and will suck up that color. A lot quicker so normally just while shampooing the hair out once the toner hits the end. That'S plenty! So, what's left of the total, once I rinse everything out, I kind of just like to do a last gloss of this and leave it on for another minute or two, and then we are ready to shampoo and condition everything out. So I will be back with the finished result, all right guys, so I've gone ahead and shampooed and conditioned my hair as you can see, the roots are lightened, but still really soft. I didn't want this extreme brightness at the root. You can see the added shine that that toner has given me. The tone in my blonde is, in the same tone shade as my roots, which creates this harmony of colors and just makes everything go, and the good thing about this, too, is that I don't have to tone my hair until the next time that I process and Do my roots, and that is it for this root touch-up and toner, like I said in the beginning of this video, if you would like to see my next session, which is when I add in the baby lights, give this a thumbs up, and let me know Down below that, you guys would like to see that if you haven't subscribed yet please do so by clicking that red button down below it will ensure that I keep making more videos like this, for you guys and if you haven't checked out all of my in Salon, videos as well do go ahead and check those out, alright guys. Jane Smith: I love this video because it lets me know that I don't have to have precise application to do my own hair. I always worry about the back but with this technique it's kind of foolproof as long as you don't bring the shadow down too low. Thanks, Elle.

Maisey: It’s a real skill to be able to self section off your hair and cover the roots that cleanly!

K Bear: Your blonde is so beautiful, suits your complexion perfectly.

Marisa Jane: I absolutely love that you posted an updated video like this! I came on to YouTube today to watch one of your videos because I couldn’t remember what combination of Shades Eq you used for your blonde and I wanted to try it. It’s funny because I’m literally about to do my roots and tone and then I saw your latest video in my feed. I’ve learned so much from you and really appreciate that you share your knowledge with us. I know it’s easier said than done because people can be so mean when they have their phones and laptops to hide behind, but you are amazing and anyone who says any different is just jealous of you!

Michelle Marshall: Thank you for telling us about the toner. I have been asking stylist for 4 years about where I can get a toner and I never get an answer. I live on a sailboat and have to color my hair myself. After a few times it is flat and dull, I need a toner. One stylist just gave me a styling product that says it adds shine. Totally different than a toner which is what I asked for. I think the thing I miss the most about living in a 1st world country is my hairstylist.

DJ ok: Love love love your hair! Thank you for all your great vids. Excellent advice! Thank You!

Love My Home: Yes please!!! We want to see how you complete your current look!!! Love your hair and makeup. Unfortunately, my curly hair doesn’t look the same unless blow dried...

Johanne Pasion: Can't wait to see your baby light video. Great tutorial as always!

Arantxa Sánchez: Silvia, your videos are so helpful ♥ Recently I dyed my hair in the shade 6.1. I think it would get an ashy color but instead it got reddish. Why does this happen and how I can fix it? I hope you can solve my question. Thank you soooooo much ♥

Giada w: Hi! Can I ask an advice? Basically I did a balayage last month and toned it with Wella color fresh. It's pretty blonde, kind of gold but some parts are platinum. Now i have a Wella color touch 10/73(a Platinum sandy Gold blonde). How they will turn out? Still gold but a little bit less yellow? Thanks xx

Irene Dublin: You do such an amazing job!!! If I lived in San Francisco I'd so have you as my hair stylist ❤

Virginia Garcia: Great video Sylvia, thank you so much for that, you are a doll! and yes, I would love to see how you do your baby lights.❤️

Jacqueline D.: Great job, of course you’re a pro, lol! So gorgeous!

Rebecca Wieczorek: @ellebangs YES PLEASE!!!!! Baby lites video!! I did the 8NA and I’m waiting for the next one!!! Thank you Sylvia!!!!!

Aliya Jeraq: AMAZINGthank you for taking the time to show us how to touch up our roots. love your channel

Nicole Cardin: For the root tap. What would I get at Sally's? I have taught myself how to babylight/highlight from watching your videos. I was able to do during quarantine. It came out good. I used the Wella color charm determinant from Sally's to tone hair after. Now I need to do a root tap. I noticed you used level 10 so it doesn't lift roots. Would that be a actual pemanant color with level 10?

chinnychinchin: Stunning color I love for these kinds of videos ❤️

Angela: Thanks for showing how you do your hair color.. looks great!

Jenny Seiber: Amazing!!! You can really tell that you know what you’re doing!

Marianne Donato: Yes! Please film the babylites next! Thanks for sharing your color. I do have Shades EQ toner at home can you recommend how long to leave on highlights to refresh tone? I am so scared they’ll turn grey or too ashy so I chicken out and just use toning shampoos. Thanks Sylvia! ❤️

Ayla Denv: Sylvia, I was wondering if you have any tips on how to lighten my hair leaving my roots alone because I like how it looks I’m using the clairol 12a high lift solution with pure white I’m naturally about a level 3 or 4 and I’m at a level 7-8 on the rest of the hair.

Audrey: I have textured extremely thick hair, i know that sounds great, actually I'm not complaining, but seriously i have the worst tangled hair if so quickly. It is hard to do my own hair, blonde, i do anyway but I've honestly had a madien lane hair dresser or blow dryer refuse to dry my ha the owner did it! Years ago. Still, in like humidity my hair is very curly so.. It's a pain to keep to tangle free. I use argain oil i try try try. So when i do highlights inmy hair it takes forever to get it all covered. I am really trying to use foils but my hair laughs. I am going to try shades eq, i want a less breaking situation. Hard to do. Thanks.

Michelle: Can you PLEASE do a tutorial on maintaining blonde hair when you are a natural redhead?

Alessio Sangalli: Hello Ellebangs I have been following your videos. I like to do my wife's color - it's something that brings us together. I would like once to travel to S. Francisco and have you do her color! Just a question, what is the purpose of toner? I just color her roots every few weeks.

Leah Watts: So when more roots grow after this ,what do you do? Does doing the same thing and adding the 09P to the root area you did this time get the 09p and it will lighten it up enough? Or next time have to had some highlights?

Kirsty Macfarlane: I love the black on black! The end result is gorgeous, wish you was my hairdresser

Sofia: What processing solution did you use to mix with the toner?

Tina Lindsey: im really getting lots of dull gray that I get professionally highlighted. Still unhappy with it. I love your hair combo. How in the world can I easily communicate your hair to my stylist? Any suggestions from you are welcomed! My hair has always turned a brassy color with lots of root gray now! :(

Sarah L: Thank you! So helpful!

Sam: thanks for this - hello from Germany :-) for grey roots I would be using NN like you recommended in your other video ?! Thanks for your great advice - even started cutting my ends cause your great 4 point cutleries video - love it

Siara Stapleton: You're the best!! Thank you for sharing your techniques and products

Look gorgeous 4 life!: Let’s see those baby lights :) Also, be sure to mention what your natural level is in case anyone is tempted to try these colors themselves. :)

Laura Liliane Parmentier: Love it! Please also show the touch up with babylights

Karen McCann: Your hair is so beautiful and it has gotten so long. I would love to see you do the baby lights in your hair that would be great.

Katebeautyx: Thank you!!! I do needed to see this. I would also like to see the babylight video and a video on current skin care favs.

Kay Leigh: Hi @ellebangs when you apply the 6NA when you're doing your babylights, is it the Color gel formula 6NA or is it the Shades eq 6NA?

Rosie Ag: Yes please! A babylight tutorial would be great.

Mariia Klymak: Hi!I have a question.09 p -is this what you usually using to toner your hair?

Gina: My hair is all grey and I dye blonde. Want to do balayage like your previous video, just very, very nervous about how to make it blend from darker to lighter shade. Your previous video you were going over hair that was already balayaged. Helpful tips to blend from the darker to lighter pieces? Thanks!

Christina W: Beautiful color!!

Jadorelamode Paris: Amazing! Thank you! Yes, do the baby light video.

mnogarcia07: You are amazing!!!! I love your hair! Please show how you do your baby lights!

Chelsika: You need to make a separate asmr channel! Your voice is sooo relaxing!

Nash John Jr vlogs: Hello Silvia, I wanted to ask a question regarding protein in hair products. I have thr joico intense hydrator (which has hydrolyzed keratin and hydrolyzed wheat proteins in it) is it safe to use weekly? I have high lifted blonde hair. Thanks in advance! !!

Dina M.: When you do your roots, do you color the roots as well?

Joanne Cosmo: Me too i would love to see how you do the baby lights and what you use to get your hair so beautiful!. Thankyou so much for this Video Silvia !! Love the results on you.

reinamarie614: Last demo, I believe you pre-lightened your base before depositing the 8na color. Just wondering how this time a 10 volume can provide lift to your level 6 base with no prelightening

Julie Cardona: If I want to stay away from permanent color, will the shades EQ in a level 7 help to blend grays in root area?

elisabeth fors: Love to see how you do the babylights ❤️

Laura Montero: Can you use a darker shade of shades eq (eg., 06N) to darken the root instead of the color gel you used? I toned my whole head with Wella and my roots turned orange ☹️ so I’m trying to get my base color back to my natural color using shades eq. Is it possible?

Luane Ketcherd: FYI save yourself and do not try this. I’ve been doing my own hair for years, I’ve been following her for a while, love her videos but this one ☝️ is a bad bad one. I had my own hair touch up method and then I saw this video (watched like 20times) and silly me was like “it’s easier then my method “. Oh boy the results...dark patches on my level 10 blonde! Make sure you protect your blonde in between with foil, plastic, hair rollers. Do not try what she’s showing.

TESA: To be honest with you I didn’t see any difference maybe it’s just me great tutorial tho. Thanks to videos like this I decided a week ago to bleach my hair myself I’ve gone to 3 different stylist and none haven’t been able to get me to that hair color that I wanted all they’ve done is just damage my hair so I thought to myself I just might as well do it myself and i did, I’m pretty impressed with the results I’m at a level 8 blonde one more section and I’ll have platinum blonde my hair is down to my waistline and its still in pretty good shape doesn’t look dry or damage at all I just trimmed the ends and wow nothing like a good healthy looking blonde hair.

Keysgirl: Yes please! Love to see the baby lights. My roots are darker than yours, probably a 4 or 5, would I just use a higher developer? Say 30? With the lacquer? I am crazy for the eq shades toner! The color is great!

Gavriel: Great job you're awesome , definitely do the baby lights.

Kate M: Hi Ellebangs, when you use colour on the perimeters, is the colour darker or lighter? I use two colours on my hair and I'm assuming I use the darker colour on the perimeter. is that right?

megliner: What color would you be using if it was a wella brand or ion? I can only use what is at Sally’s and I’d love to know what would be a comparable product to he Redken products/color you used in this video. Thank you for all your videos!

Prettyvibez30: Love to see how you do the mini lights... quick question though... you put color on your roots not lighter? And if using lighter/bleach is it okay to apply the toner while the bleach is still in there? I use ion so I’m guessing maybe not but would love to know for sure by a blonde expert

Kay Leigh: Yes please, I would love to see the babylight video as well as the 6na you apply before hand!! Thanks.

LeMarais88: Hi, do you have any tips of how best to dye your own hair when your hair is very long? Thanks.

Courtney Lyons: Please do the baby light tutorial!❤️

Joan Gentile: I love your hair color, Elle!! What shade of color is it?? Just asking. ❤

Ashley Artsco: Is that black background paper or something else? It looks great. And your hair is always beautiful ❤️

Tiffany Michelle: I have grays. I’m a brunette. I dye my hair a 4N which matches my natural color very well. But what if I want my overall hair color a lighter shade of brown? What do I do?

Eliana Ivanka: Do you bleach once your roots get really long?

Zulma Rebollar: Me gusta,se mira muy bien tu cabello

Molly: Will you do a video on how you highlight the back of your head yourself? I am a professional and do my own hair but have a very hard time doing the back and I will not let anyone else touch my hair nor am I willing to pay for it when I can easily do it myself

MichelleM: Maybe this is obvious but I'm not sure what to do. Once I start applying the toner do I start the timer or does the time begin once I finish applying the toner? Thank you

Silvia ramos: Looks great!!! Have you ever mixed shades Eq 9v and 9p?

Lynda B: I just did this today and my root looks exactly the same ..Do I need to leave on longer?

Alejandra Hopwood: How do you wash out the root color without it making the blonde darker? I feel every time i dye my roots and rinse it off in the shower my blonde looks darker and duller. Thank you!!

s mmg: Great video!!! Thank you!!!

Juliet Tyler: Am I understanding this right; while my hair is processing at the roots, I can apply toner to not only the untouched hair, but ON TOP of the product that is currently processioning on my roots- is that right?

Alexia Jasmine: This is stunning

Anthea Michelle: I absolutely LOVE your hair colour! So natural, but awesome!! Wish you lived in Australia, coz I'd go to you to get my hair done xxx

Melissa McCone: Awesome video!! Yes, would love to see those baby lights!
