How To: My Caramel Hair Color - Drugstore! Ombre Hairstyles

In this, 2 part hair tutorial, I'm going to show you how I color my hair at home to get a warm, caramel brown color using the Clairol dye that you can get from the drugstore. I get asked about my hair color in "every single video," so here is how you can easily dye your hair at home to get similar results.

Blog post : http://bit.ly/1Bwedro

In the first DIY video, I'm using the Clairol's Age Defy, a permanent hair color made especially for aging hair, to cover my VERY resistant grays and to warm up, and lighten my level 4 black hair to a level 6, chocolate brown hair.

I love Age Defy because it not only covered my stubborn grays completely, but it also took care of other signs of aging hair like dry, dull and wiry hair. Clairol's Age Defy develops into such a vibrant and natural looking hair color, I'm beyond impressed to say the least.

If you have hard to color, resistant grays then you're going to absolutely love this new line of home hair color from Clairol.

Even if you don't have any grays, you can still use the Age Defy. In fact, this line of color should be more hydrating than your average permanent hair dyes, since it's formulated for aging hair. You'll find Age Defy a very rich and hydrating hair color.

With that said, always remember to check the back of the box to see your color results. We all have different hair colors and hair history, so results will vary.

Please don't buy every shade I use and expect to get the same caramel hair color. Our natural hair color is different, therefor, you will need to adjust the formulation.

Do buy the same line just not the same colors, k? If you're not sure, just call the 1-800 number Clairol has on their web site, so the pro's at Clairol can assist you in picking out the correct shades for you.

In the second video, placed on the Clairol's channel (link at the top), I'm going to show you how to tone your hair with a demi hair color to create an ombre hairstyle. This trick will only work if your ends are already light. If you have black hair from the roots to the ends of your hair, then you'll need to highlight it before applying the hair color.

One of these days, when I actually need to bleach my hair again, I'll show you how to highlight your own hair at home. Since I didn't want to damage my hair unnecessarily, we're skipping the highlighting part today.

✔ To show my true hair color, I'm not wearing hair extensions in both videos.

Hi guys, I'm Tina from making wearables, and today I'm partnering up with Clara, to show you how amazingly easy it is to color your own hair at home to get my hair color. This is going to be a two-part tutorial so to see the other video place on the Clara's own channel, you can go ahead and click on the link in the info box at any time. So, let's check out my hair situation. As you can see here, my natural hair color is very black and have a lot of gray hair. I mean a lot of Gray's at the sides and my ends are our lovely shade of brassy Orange, so I'm gon na target my roots first and in order to completely cover my very resistant grays and to lighten and warm up my root color. I'M gon na use the Clairol's expert age-defy eye permanent hair color in the shades 6 light brown and 5a, which is a medium ash brown. So here's a quick rundown on what's inside the kit, you'll find the instructions with the gloves inside of it a pretreatment cream, cream color and it's activating formula and a pro-v color seal conditioning therapy and before we start cooking, I'm gon na nag it you, because you Have to do this step 48 hours before you do any kind of hair coloring. You have to do an allergy test, even if you're never had any problems before in the past. Your body is constantly changing, so you just never know you can do these behind your ear behind your net on your arms, like I'm doing here so after meeting the instructions, we're gon na apply the step, one, which is the age-defy smoothing pretreatment to dry hair from Roots to the end, I don't know if you guys are aware of this, but when you get gray hair you don't just lose a pigmentation. You also lose the quality of your hair, so your hair becomes more dry frizzy brittle, which leads to more split ends and just blindness. And when you use hair color formulated for normal hair, your gray hair looks like it's been colored badly colored, because other signs of aging still remains. I love a safai and decided to go with this because it fights seven signs of aging, so my gray hair. Once it's color doesn't look like it's been colored gray. It just looks like my hair 15 years ago. Next is your neutral hair coloring section out your hair into four like this. Now we're gon na mix the colors you're supposed to use the whole tip of the color cream with the activator. But since I'm mixing two colors here, I'm only gon na use, half of the tube from six and half of the two from 5a cut off. The top of the activator then place your finger over the tip and mix thoroughly. I'M gon na start applying from the front lay a thin line of color on your part and then spread the color with your finger since I'm doing a route application here, and I don't have a lot of regrowth on the crown. I'M simply riding my index finger across a part is for the color so that I'm not overlapping too much with the parts that were previously colored. I'M making my sections with the tip of the applicator without squeezing the bottle and my sections are becoming thinner. As I get closer to the areas where have a lot of Gray's, because you need to make sure those areas are completely saturated with color, so the way I color my hair is by doing the back every three months in the front and the sides every four To six weeks and in between those four to six weeks, I have to use something else to keep my grades covered, because it just goes out of control, which I'm going to show you in another tutorial. I also have to show you guys how to highlight a number, your own hair at home, which I'm gon na get around to doing. When I need my own hair color, I mean bleach because I don't want to go and reach the hair. That'S already been bleached and damage my hair even further, all right so now we're gon na set the timer for 20 minutes then clean up the skin. If you want to, if you think I look like a mess now and just wait until you see the second video and then after 20 minutes, I'm gon na apply cheap conditioner that I buy from a dollar store all over my ends to protect it from the Dark dye, so, while the color is processing for the last five minutes, we can take care of the saint's on our skin, we're going to use the hair color. We just used on our head on the stains and rub it into the skin. After a minute, we're gon na remove the color with a paper towel to check to see if the stains are still there. If you still see them we're gon na repeat until it's all gone and they're gon na. Take you guys into my bathroom but watch me here. I'M gon na use the strongest water pressure in my house to rinse this off, but I'm gon na lift my ends up like this. While I rinse off the color so that the dark dye does not get on my highlights so once you've washed everything off, you can come right back, so we can do the step 3. Now, after tower drying, your hair, we're gon na, apply some of the Profi colors, the conditioning therapy, all over the hair, to help lock in the color and to keep our hair, soft and shiny. You should not skip this step because it's amazing, amazing conditioner and you should leave it in your hair for at least two minutes. Alright guys we're done with part one to see the part 2 tutorial, where I show you what colors to use on your ends meet me at the Clairol's youtube channel by clicking here. If you're on mobile and can't click through, you can click on the first link. In the infobox below

I asked my hairdresser if that was normal and she said I have to go more often or do it myself. I was shocked I already spend $2,210. a year on my hair. So I decided to take her advice I went on youtube and found you and I'm going to do it myself I'm going to put aside the extra money and go on a cruise next year. I also have highlights that I want to cover, can I use the same hair dye to cover them, so it can be one color ?

Bren Gz: Stunning! Love the end result

Teresa Burress: My hair is a dark brown I went one/two shades light then you listed. My hair turned out great. I have thinning hair and didn't use as much conditioner. Thanks for the great tip.

Jerrica kral: hey tina beautiful hair as usual! thanks for showing. but i have a question for anyone out there who can help me...i have a medium brown haircolor and i want my hair blonde...honestly even an ash blonde would work but the lighter the better. im trying to stay away from bleach. does anyne know of any dyes that will lighten it alot? or is my only choice bleach? my roots are really light but my hair is still medium brown. thanks

You Too: I have dark brown hair that I dye to cover my grey hair. I'd really like to lighten it and do something similar to what you've done. In order to do this, would I need to bleach my hair to strip it before I lightened it? Is that how you've been able to go lighter? Also, if I want to have full coverage, why wouldn't I apply the color to my whole head vs just the roots first and then the ends for the last 5 minutes? And how long did you wait between applying the permanent and semi-permanent color? Sorry for all the questions!

Amanda Orlikowski: I have naturally golden blonde with dark blonde. I'm going to try this with dark brown and lightest golden brown for the highlight. Wish me luck

Christina Yang: Hi Tina, I'm using black hair color and I've got black stain all over me, like my arms, neck and my scalp.  What can I use to wash it off?  Cause it stays for a few days and I can't wash it off. By the way, you look gorgeous.

Paloma Santamaria-Winter: I love your style ! how do I get your hair results from soft black hair dye?

Preety Bhawsar: hi, i'm new to your channel. Does hair coloring cause more grey hair than before?

Tee Bbe: Hi Tina can you please do a diet/ workout routine video or advice on clean eating? Love you xx

JL0143: Please do a video on how u got ur ombre at home.. I've been wanting to do this but I'm too scared it will dry out my hair if I use bleach at home. The salon near me wants 150$ to ombre my hair and I'm a broke nursing student.. (for now).. thank you so much for your awesome videos I tried the heat less curls last night and It came out beautiful!!

Leishly Marie: I love your hair color. I want mine like yours

Simita Das: Hey Tina, I am from India. Can you please tell me how can I buy Clairol's hair dye from here as it isn't available here..... :-(

Malik kashif: Oh my god...i loved it..very easy

J. reeze: yasss it's perfect ! :D

Kaitlyn Crean: I'm getting my hair like this today

florenna: Nice video, but your natural colourwould be much more beautiful than the Clairol dye one :) Oh, and those allergy tests are a hoax, doing one actually *increases* your risk of serious allergic reaction during dyeing!! (Of course, the dye manufacturers tell to do it just to avoid any legal responsibility in case of a serious reaction...)

Lizbeth Delarosa: Your so beautiful!!!!!!!! :) love your hair and makeup :)

Miss Jnet: If I mixed 2 dyes, I would get a car crash. You so great at knowing what to do. Wondering if you did your own highlights and wanna see.

Mia Denise: Hi I just discovered your videos and I love them so thank you . I want to ask you whenever I dye my hair and try to go a lighter brown,I have black hair, I always end up with a reddish tint to my hair and my Greys look a lighter reddish. I don't want to have a red tint is there any color or anything you would recommend??

Blue: Can you use it for all your hair or just the roots

MsLansones: My hair has been thinning lately, what do you use/do to keep your hair so full and thick?  I've been taking collagen and vitamin pills lately but I feel like I am still loosing a good amount of my hair.  I'm tempted to buy Keranique just to get my full head of hair back.  Help!

Emily Liu: Love your hair colour!!

Natalies Outlet: Love your hair <3

Yamie Marie: Dear, I have a question. My hair, as you can see in my picture is very red. There's no bleach in my hair or anything like that, just bright red hair dye. I've let it fade away because I want the hair color you have on the top of your hair, like a chocolate brown. My hair right now looks kinda orangy red and I really don't know if it's gonna work out do to the history of my hair. I would really appreciate if you would help me know what should I do to achieve that hair color. By the way, you look Flawless!!! *-* xoxo
