Hey guys it's Lauren here: do you ever get clients that come in with previously highlighted hair and then they're telling you they want to be a lot blonder? Sometimes they think intuitively, oh well, my hair already has blonde in it. So it must not be that difficult to make it lighter, but in reality I feel it's very hard to navigate around previously highlighted hair, especially when the route natural color is so dark. There'S such a big range in between the two, so I'm going to show you exactly how I achieve this look so make sure you subscribe for more free content. So today I'm doing hair outside I'm up in Coeur, d'Alene Idaho, visiting my sister who lives up there and it was such a beautiful day. So I decided: let's do it all outside, so I'm gon na be mixing two different lightening formulas and that's going to be well upon door, ten volume and Wella blonde or 30 William. So I actually cut hair a few different times when I'm doing a lightening process and the first round is pretty much just to get the bulk out. So that way, I'm not coloring hair that I'm going to just be cutting off later all right. So I'm going to go in with a diagonal back section right behind the ear, because I want to make sure that when she pulls her hair up we're gon na get some nice flow of color right up into her hair tight. So I'm taking a really fine section, placing the foil and we're gon na go in with the 30 volume and well a blonde, or so I mix it to just kind of like a gel. Like consistency, I don't want it to be too thick to where I can't spread it, but I also don't want it to be too thin to where it spreads to easily and maybe bleeds into areas where I don't want it to be. If you feel like your T's, can it comes out really easily? You can just kind of place a clip and slide it up make sure the clip is kind of loose, though you don't want to pull the clients hair seam. I notice that my sectioning is not extremely clean, not extremely perfect, not uniform, and you know what I know that probably bothers some people, but I honestly just don't like things to look very uniform, so I kind of like to take a section down grab pieces see How it feels see how it lays take those pieces and do exactly what I want to them. Sometimes I'm gon na do weaves and teasing and then sometimes I'm gon na just do a slice and teasing. So the reason I don't separate the hair down the middle and do everything on one side and then everything on the other side is because I just really don't want it to all kind of come together and touch the middle. So I do more of like a Bray clay pattern across the entire back section. So when I'm placing the lightener what I'm doing with the 30 volume is I'm hitting all of the pieces that are extremely dark in her natural level, five hair? What I'll do is I'll weave out any baby lights that I see, so it can be very tedious, so make sure you let your clients know that, just because you have those lighter pieces in your hair doesn't mean that it's gon na be very easy to get Everything much lighter you have to be very tedious and very controlled, and what you're doing so, I'm using a 30 volume on those darker level, five pieces and then, wherever I see stuff, that's light, but not quite as light as I want it to be. That'S where I'm using the ten volume and of course you can use olaplex in that formula as well. I didn't have any with me and I just didn't - want to fight a whole kit just for this one service. But if I had it available to me, I would definitely put olaplex in my ends formula you so normally, when I do around the hairline, I'm not doing a ton of back combing, because I want the highlights to go as close to the roots as possible and Give that really nice bright face favoring peace, but, as you can see from the before, she has a lot of baby lights that go all the way to the root, and I didn't do it that long ago, maybe like three months ago, so they haven't grown out. A ton - and so I didn't really need to put any highlights so close to the root, but really what I wanted to do is to kind of tie all those baby lights together at the end, with bright blonde you, this process takes a very long time, so, As you go, you want to make sure you're checking the back and making sure nothing is over processing, especially around the neckline, because it does produce a lot of heat back there, because it's so close to your body and so close to your head. So you just want to keep that in mind and if there's any pieces that you feel like are done, take the lightener off as quick as possible. So I'm going to be using five n shades eq for her root, shade i'm gon na be color melting. It right into her bright, bold ends, and this is gon na give just a really nice pop of color, because it's gon na be right up against some really darker pieces, but it's gon na be very seamless and blended. So after i apply maybe one to three sections i go in with a comb and just kind of drag it down a little bit to make sure that we're blending out any harsh lines and it kind of creates a smooth transition into those brighter bold pieces. At the bottom, don't be afraid if you feel like it looks really dark when it's processing that's totally normal, it's just making the hair a lot more wet and then there's pigment to it. So it's gon na look a lot darker when it's processing, but jzq is very sheer. So you can be confident that it's not going to completely cover up all of your work and then for her mid-shaft. I did nine n9b 9 G and shades eq, and that was equal parts and then, for the very very end I just added whatever was left in the bottle. I added exactly that amount ain't clear to make sure that it dilutes it and make sure that the ends stay nice and bright, shiny and glossy and check out our end result. What do you guys think I just love the way highlights just kind of disappear into a deep root like that, where you can't tell where they begin, and you can't tell where they end. That is just my favorite and then you also have a little bit brighter around the face: really a nice pop of blond on the bottom and that deep root shade just created a really nice dimension, but it's still so seamless because of the application.
