Hi, my name is Michi owner of pet line. Spyder Franco salon, barber, Estrada, franco, barber shop and posh collection, herring cosmetics. This month marks the one year anniversary of the mad about Michi YouTube page. I have something special in store for you guys, so I hope you're ready. Let'S get started okay, so today's video is going to be on the actual rubberband base foundation for the Soul in okay. What you'll need for this foundation is a rat tail comb, small black rubber bands thread and two hair nets. I like to use two hair nets to keep it in place, so we're just going to get started. This is your leave out. Of course, you always want to have leave out when you're sewing to make it look natural, so we're just going to part off our first area. You wanted to start making like small ponytails. You don't want to make it super tight, because you don't want to pull up their hair as you go to the next one. You want to take half of the hair from the first one and add to the second one. Now we're going to take this piece on the first one and go in a different direction. You want to make sure your perimeter area is in smaller ponytails, but, as you get in the middle of the hair, you can actually make bigger pieces now, you're just going to keep taking all the hair from each ponytail and continuing your ponytails all the way down. The side and this technique is for people with short hair that want to wear sew ins, but it's too short to get braided or some people could just use this technique. If you don't know how to braid, but you do know how to install so in so this is a great technique for non braiders. Remember you don't want to make their ponytails too tight once you go on top of the hair with the hairnet that will help secure the foundation. Once again, you can start to see the foundation forming and it's not afraid, but you can tell that it's shaping as if it is a braid, so you'll have no problem installing your sew-in on top of this foundation. So now what I'm going to do is start on the other side and we're going to go back this way to meet this side with the side we've already finished, you don't want to bring this side all the way around because it may become too thick. So you want to start fresh on the opposite side of the head and flow backwards, so we're going to do the same side, we're going to go around and then down now. We'Ve connected both sides together and now. Your first role is complete. Okay, your bottom row is going to be your most complicated role because most likely it's the shortest. So you want to make sure you take your time and make smaller sections just to make sure it's nice and secure. So now our foundation is completed and, as you can see, it pretty much looks like braids, but it's just done with rubber bands and it's very secure. But what we're going to do is go on top of it with two hair nets. Just to make sure it's even more secure - and I know a lot of you are probably thinking well what, if one of the rubber bands break well, that's the reason we're putting the hairnet on top. So if a rubber band does break it's still nice and secure underneath the net, once we put the net on we're going to stitch it up, real good and you'll be all set to put your install in okay. So now what you want to do is just cut your additional net off making sure you don't cut your thread or your clients here. So this completes our rubber band foundation or rubber band bass. She'S all set and ready for her install in her. So, in should last about the same amount of time as a regular traditional. So in that's braided, it's nice and secure, and the rubber bands are tacked down with the stitching and with the net. So you'll have no problem if a rubber band breaks underneath the hairnet. Okay, so now I'm going to begin my install, so you guys can see that a rubber band foundation is just as secure as a braided foundation. Okay, so we're all finished with her install. So I'm just gon na mold, her hair down to blend in with the extensions and then we're gon na cut her up, install her okay. So we're all done with her sewing installation using a rubber band base or rubber band foundation. We reinstalled her posh hair extensions and added some color to the front. Just for a bolder look, be sure to check out other videos on the mat about Michi YouTube channel, and you can see more details on how I actually do my stitching techniques as well. As other techniques that I offer be sure to check me out on IG at mad about Michi to get all the upcoming details on videos and YouTube tutorials, thank you.

I Am Bianca: I did this for 3 months my hair did not break off and it grew love this method

Teyona Leshea: She is definitely a true hairstylist. I've never seen a rubber band foundation. #realmvp

Chide lovesyou: great technique.. waoo

Cynthia Maddox: This method isn't a whole lot different from a braided sew in... Hell a braided sew in can take out hair as well.. Especially if the braiding is too tight. And obviously something is working because in the beginning and end of this meechie stated this is the clients second installment. Good job meechie...mothers did this for years to kids hair with no issues.

Mrs. Sista': You can always tell a Pro....they don't even got time nor care to address ignorant comments. That's Meechie. Confident in her craft. Professional. I never got a clear understanding why this technique would be used. I do now.

chaej37: It's funny how we always tear each other down as black women. The concerns are understandable but if you don't like the method then don't do. I think this woman is very talented. I'm a fellow hairstylist and I admire you Ms. Meechie. Keep doing what you do. @MadAboutMeechie

LadyMarie: I've been doing this to my own hair for a long time because my hair can't take the braiding. I'm glad to see stylist taking on this technique

Latonia Davis: Not a bad method at all! If you haven't tried it then you shouldn't speak! I have a head full of hair and prefer this method over braids! It is a little time consuming but the take down is so much quicker than traditional braid patterns, just depend on your hair and how good your stylist is! I've gotten more damage with braids then with the rubber bands

Ebere Onyeagba: 5 years later and here I am about to do this because my hair is so soft it slips when I try braiding it myself. Thank you

Michele Pinkney: Im a stylist since 1996 and just let sum people know my baby was born with very short hair, and the time she was almost i decided to take wat little hair she had and make lots of little ponytails. I needed to do this to cause the hair to grow now my daughter's hair is down her back. There is a way to use rubberbands without causing damage to the hair. That is wat we learned in school during our training!!!

Melissa Pittman: I happen to like this method. I've seen girls wanting to get a sew in and from the hair being so short or damaged from chemicals, braiding hair doesn't always work. Y'all so worried about breaking of the hair but a braided foundation has ripped plenty of ppl hair out. Meechie clearly states dont do the rubber bands too tight to prevent breakage. Hello!!! what y'all not understanding??? As of hair growth any installation can grow your hair. It's all about how u maintain YOUR hair underneath is what ppl fail to realize. Just because it's a sew in doesn't mean neglect your real hair.

Atlanta Braids: I've heard of this method before, I am a stylist who specializes in natural hair and I must say that yes a stylist must know what they're doing when doing this style because there's triple traction it can go very wrong if installed too tightly. Meechie knows what she's doing, this is not a style for the unlicensed to try. Essential oils prevent breakage, as long as the hair is moist and oiled before, during and after install and one doesn't keep doing this method back to back to back her hair will be fine. She can also lift up her tracks and oil her scalp. Rubberbands only break hair when the hair is too dry and or bands are too tight.

Shauna Brown: Would you consider doing a vixen sew in with a rubberband foundation? That would be awesome ...

Olivia's Braiding Seat: Thanks Meechie! This is a great technique to add to my skills, thanks for sharing. Might I ask what mousse you are using to mold the hair with? @MadAboutMeechie

HairDeLaCreme: I would love to take classes from you! Can you do some closure install videos?

sheena hathcock: I think this was beautiful work. Thanks so much for sharing.

LaKindra Lucy: I used to do mine like that back in high school in the late 90's but I connected mine with the thread not rubber bands since they're very damaging on the hair. I wrapped the thread around in the small sections then connected them the same way. The thread was way easier to get out and caused no damage at all.

Donnesha Preston: I love my short cut, but I'm glad I can use this technique to wear a sew in , instead of a quickweave!

Kayla King: I love your work and your client is beautiful! Thank you for your videos, they help encourage me to go back and finish up my hours.

ElaineGenialee: that leave out is hurtin' good job with this technique though...love the way it turned out!

Rachel Edwards: In love.... Def going to try this on sime if my short hair clients. Also for thise hating.. Sometimes when you have a short hair client the braids dont stay as long as someone with linger hair because of how short it is. Honestly in this business time equals money so if it takes more time you charge more money. Pretty simple math to me. Great job Meechie. I graduate at the end of the month and looking to intern with you or at one of your salons. Cant wait to meet you. Your such an inspiration!!!

Z Kelly: I'm so glad I saw this. I've been wearing toppers for 25 years. My hair is very thin on top and I can't cornrow so I glue. Tired of that method for sure! This gives me another way to install and probably waaayyyy cheaper than buying the human toppers. Thank you for posting this! I appreciate seeing all these great techniques!! Kudos to all!!!

vanessa shaw: “Girl” you whipped that hair so good even I was yelling. OMG! FABULOUS JOB. And I love the way you secured her own hair underneath. AWESOME, darlin’. Awesome.

HueIsJu?: Meechie every since I found your channel, you have never failed in amazing me! I really love your work a.d think that this style is awesome. It seems like you're styles and videos get better and better after each one. You inspire and thank you for the tutorial.

ADORELOVESEXY: I love watching your tutorials. I learn a whole lot of tips from you. I am a licensed junior stylist hoping to get to your status. You always do great work on your clients.

Qtepiee88: Its great that she is innovative and has come up with a solution for people who want to do their own sew-ins but cant cornrow, but I personally would use it, simply because of the breakage that could occur. Sew-ins are protective styles so I wouldn't want that many rubber bands causing tension on my hair, especially my relaxed hair. I don't think the rubber bands are the main issue of breakage, I think its how the person takes them out. They may try to cut or rip them out, which would be devastating. It also seems like it will come loose quickly and/or the rubber bands that is holding the foundation could pop! Great job tho. The final result was pretty :)

Monica Baylock: everyone is saying rubber bands are damaging but my hair grew with them. plus i think it just depends on whos doing it bc sew ins, braids, and relaxers can be damagung

Rayna Glass: You killing them Meechie! Love your work- you inspire me

Tha-bang M: Thank you so much. I was worried how to install a weave without using glue on my short sides.

Erica Muhammad: You are definitely one of the best hairstylist ever! Thanks so much for allowing us to see your fabulous work!

black coffee: you know it is two different kinds of rubber bands I believe she's using the ones that won't break your hair off I can't remember what they are made of but she is definitely not using the regular ones this lady is a professional she knows wtf she is doing

3timezalady: I think this is dope! The next time I do my own install I'm going to use this method. I can braid other people hair fine but I have alot of trouble doing my own braids plus I'm tender headed so they are never as tight as they should be. Thanks for sharing!

TigerTiger: ma'am you slayed this install, it looks amazing!

1 NiecyB: haters can hang it up cause baby you did that!! I love it when leave out is blended it should never be a excuse why your leave out looks sketchy ❤❤

Mylife Sistarella: I Love how versatile are hair can be whether natural or straight, weaved or chemically treated. Thank you,@MadAboutMeechie for empowering our industry for young and seasoned stylist of color and for everyone for that matter....Small Business meets Growth and Possibilities! Well done!!
