The reason this is a protective style:

Protective style- The basic concept is to preserve “something valuable” i.e OUR HAIR - from damage and harm.

Protective styling reduces ongoing manipulation of the hair, encourages growth and length retention and furthermore reduces knots and tangles.

Protective style doesn’t require much daily upkeep or constant manipulation.

I am able to wear my hair like this for up to two weeks without restyling/ manipulating, encouraging my hair to flourish and remain healthy.

Hello, it's Janet J beauty and welcome to my channel today. I'M gon na show you how I did these box braids on my natural hair, I'm starting the style off on freshly washed hair, as I always do, because I want a nice clean environment for my hair and scalp, and I knew that I would be wearing this Hairstyle for a week to up to a week and a half, so let's get started to get super super clean parts. I'M gon na be using this thin, a rat tail comb. I'M gon na be using a total of three combs in this video. The rat tail comb like this one is going to be used for making those clean clean parts. I'M parting, my hair off into three sections: two in the front: half and then one big section in the back for this style. I wanted to try something a little different, so I'll be wearing a middle part, and when I'm making my parts, I'm ensuring that they're super clean, because I wanted a really nice polish style overall and to help make one clean Park on shirt across the middle. Going horizontally, I divide it into two sections. I make sure that both of them align equally so that it looks like I have one straight part going straight across the middle. I'Ve been doing this for a long time, and it really helps now that I have my three sections: I'm gon na start the styling process, starting with my leaving conditioner. I always use a leave-in conditioner for my Styles. It just helps the conditioned and nourish my hair. After a wash day, because I rinse everything completely out - I don't leave any conditioner. Nor do I leave deep conditioner in my hair from my leave-in conditioner, I'm using Eden Body Works almond and marshmallow therapy leave-in conditioner, and I really love this. It'S lightweight and I feel it working in my hair, pretty good and I'm using a generous amount just to ensure that it's all over my hair from roots to tips. Next, I applied the Camaro's food-rich infusion hair oil to both my hair and scalp, and I really love the way it smells. I liked the applicator tip the smells are not overwhelming, but it definitely has a nice sweet scent and I gave myself a nice scot massage. Just ensuring that the oil is rubbed on my scalp very well. I do not want a dry scalp, especially when doing a protective style. I clipped my hair up and repeated the same process on the front two sections as I'm applying the products, I'm still making sure that the parts are nice and clean, and I wanted to show you that, even though I'm layering products, my hair, is not way down. That'S very important to note now that my hair and scalp are nice and prepped. I'M gon na return to the back section and start the party, so I will be making a dedicated how-to part video, but for now I'm just making a nice clean part going straight across horizontally with the thin rat tail comb. I want to check my parting in the bathroom mirror and I found that the section was just a little bit too big for my liking. So I made it a little bit smaller because I wanted mid sized sections for the braids and to help make sure that the sections are really clean. I'M using this design essentials, honey and shade edge tamer, one of my favorite edge controls, because it really helps to sleek my hair down well and I'm using the small brush just to brush my roots, to help with the sleekness of this look. I divided this section in half straight down the middle and for those of you that are new to my channel. I'Ve been doing my hair since I was six years old, so I've had a lot of practice with my hair. So please don't feel discouraged if it takes you a while to get any of the styles that I do. I will be using the super stretch, rubber bands from proclaim - and I'm also going to add this forbidden hair oil to the rubber bands to help prevent friction in my hair and also to make sure that the rubber bands don't get too tight. On my scalp and another tip that I find useful is when I apply the rubber bands to my roots, I doubled them up, so I applied two rubber bands. Instead of one I used to do one rubber band years ago and many times throughout the course of the style say midweek I found the rubber bands would great. So what I decided to do is double them up, and I don't have that issue anymore and from my styler, I'm gon na use the satanical x' can't believe it's not butter. I really like the consistency of it. It'S not too thick, but it's definitely not lightweight. Either it has a nice consistency to help me, keep my hair, nice and moisturized to help smooth the styler in my hair and also to make sure that my hair is tangle. Free I'm using my favorite rat tail comb, and this is the second comb that I'm using by the way, and this time is just to help smooth the product in and I'm going to braid my hair straight down. I do have a dedicated tutorial on how I like to braid I'll link that below in the description box and also the I cards above and once I get to the ends of my hair. Instead of twirling it around. I took a little bit more of the edge control and just applied it to the insole with straight what I was going for is more of that box. Braids look with synthetic hair, but instead using my natural hair, I'm going to continue the same process on the rest of my hair and, of course, I'm going to show you the first two braids done and many more to go. I wanted to point out that, even though I love using this comb for a clean, precise party, sometimes the parts aren't so clean, you can see on the right side. So all I do is just redo the part over again to ensure that the part is nice and clean and using an edge control at your roots is totally optional. This is just what I decided to do for that really clean look and I use my fingers as guys just to help make sure that the part is nice and clean, because I can't see in the back. I can use mirrors, but at this point I've done my hair so much using my fingers work as I'm combing, my hair, to make sure that the can't believe it's not butter is smooth and well. I'M being very gentle mind you most of this clip is sped up one and a half times as I'm braiding, my hair, I'm making sure to do so, nice and snug so anytime, where you want that really clean popping hairstyle. Do your styles with purpose - and I say that all the time and it's so true make sure you are not 1/2 step in the style. So if you want those braids to last, make sure that you are braiding your hair and very snug like wise, with a perm rod off flexi rod out twist out, make sure that you are styling your hair, nice and snug. So if you have to unravel, you will definitely get the definition that you desire and two rolls are completed. I'M really loving how the style is coming out so far, and here's where I use the third comb my wide tooth comb and I decided to use this one to make sure that the hair was nice and detangled. Also that the product is smooth and well. And I didn't want to cause any friction by using a small rat tail comb. So anytime, where I noticed my hair has a lot thicker in that section, I'm not going to try to squeeze and use the small rat tail comb, because it will cause a lot of tension on my scalp in here and even rip some of it out and That'S not what I'm trying to do and fast forward the whole back section is completed now to the front section. I promise I will film a how to make clean parts of video, but in the meantime I just wanted to show you how I am parting. My hair, I did speed it up just for the sake of time, but you still get the gist. I'M telling you double your rubber bands, because it makes a big difference with how they last throughout the style. I find that none of the rubber bands pop throughout the week for this middle section. I wanted to make sure that the parts are so clean because these are going to obviously show also, I section them to make sure that they're, nice and even before, applying the rubber bands in 75 % done. I was so happy because I really loved how the style was coming together. The parts were so clean and it just looks so good and bam just like that with the power of editing, I am all finished. I absolutely love how the style came out. It'S a nice and clean and my hair is not too tight at all. All in all, I believe the style took me about an hour to an hour and a half to complete. I'M not sure I didn't record the time, I'm very efficient at doing my hair, since I've been doing it for over two decades, but I just really like the style is something different for me and I really like how it came out. Let me know what your thoughts are down below in the comments and I'll see you in my next video bye,

Elizabeth Johnson: I love these protective styles with no added hair! Please continue to share!

outlander: girl this is my go-to. i have it for 1-2 weeks. wash and repeat.

Ms Melissa: I’m going to try this style tomorrow. Braids are my go-to protective style but my parting skills need work.

Gabrielle Filmz: Watching you part, detangle and braid your hair is always so satisfying lol

Pretha Thom: Wow. It's like you read my mind. I've been doing this style for two months so far and I redo mines every 3 weeks (that's as far as my hair can go to). Thanks for the tips on the rubber bands because rubber bands really hurt my scalp even when it's not right so I haven't used them in a while ‍♀️

heyfranny: Hey Ms Jeanette! This is my style all year round (or twists this size, but with out the rubber bands. I hadn't thought about using the rubber bands because I thought it would break my hair. Then I saw this style in the video you previously did where u took it out to wash it and I thought maybe I'd try it. I Will try this next wash day. The oiling of the rubber bands really calms my nerves about attempting this style. Thank you! I have a video suggestion for you, I'd like to see you do the blindfold challenge again. This time the challenge will be to do either a Very Stylish and Intricate cornrow or flat twist style. I think you've mastered doing ur hair so LETS GET IT!

Tomeshila Cohen: When I was about seven or eight, my grandmother would do my hair like this once a month, but she would use the straighten comb first. This just helped me in styling my daughter's hair in the morning. I am going to do mine once I remove my extensions thnk you.

Kayla Holmes: I've been doing my hair for long time to and my friends always ask me how to I know how to part so well. The only difference is that I also practiced on the big head bratz dolls too. Love this style by the way! I typically switch between doing braids, twists, and cornrows.

Vanessa Harris: Excellent tutorial. Thank you very much! I think following the finer techniques you explained( i.e. smoothing sections at top of head, snug braiding for great definition, staggering each row) will make big difference to the attractiveness of this style . Thanks very much. I will apply

Leila♡: I've been loving the braid outlook so hopefully, this will help!! Thank you!!

Aleah B.: One time I did braids like these in my hair as well and I used triangular parts!

Lynnda Kay: Just feels nice having your own Hair on ! All the time ! Absolutely nothing bits that feeling

Qudrat Yetunde: This looks fun. Think I might try it when I have more time. Loving the hoop earrings too.

Tai-chan: Yes, love it..i tried the flat twist style that you did, on my hair yesterday. This style though, is so neat , it looks professional

Tebonique Mickle: Love this sis!!!Doing my girls hair like this when I get off this week.

Shanice Smith: Yes another style to go to thanks so much for the rods I brought the orange ones and followed your step by step turned out great

Carla Ann: Hi Janette! Happy 4th! I love this style on you. Since working from I've keeping my hair in protective styles using braids and twists. I love it but my hair is not thick so I wonder if I try bigger sections would it look alright? ❤

TheMiss600: This is hands down the prettiest make up look I've seen you in. Nice job!

Kia Beverly: Thank you for this tutorial!❤

Melanie: Ha....I just did these today. I do these as a protective style pretty often these days during COVID. However, my hair is terribly fine so all my braids are skinny af. But that's okay. I just gather my braids into a bun and attach a curly ponytail. LOL Either that or I let the front row loose and attach a half wig. Bam!

Lovely Africa: I’m glad you are this, because I was about braiding my hair! This helps out a lot, because I be doing minds wrong❤️

Stephanie Everette: Luv it!! I will be trying this style on my next wash day

Anissa Alexander: This is a great video. Also we have the same type of birthmarks! I have never seen anyone with the same type and it made me really happy to see. Keep up the great content.

CCFITNESS_SANDY: Girl ima try it, you look amazing!

Tracy Elle: I so enjoy watching your videos! They are so informative!

Ali B: This style is really nice, I actually prefer braids than mini twists these days! Quick question; what do you use to edit and how do you get these songs?

Rayota Jones: I should try this hair style on my next wash day I love it

thatgreenattack: This came out so dope and ima have to try it , even tho I never braided my own hair lol

ATOM: Love that Sade "Sweetest Taboo" mix!! As well as your braids

Himenatural: I'm going to do my braids with the bands next time.❤️❤️

Myrna J: Yesss I'm loving these Braids and I will Try to do it on my Head.✔

Granny G: I was getting afraid that Black women were no longer actually going to braid their own hair like we did back in the days of "Say It Loud I'm Black And I'm Proud". I have 6 inch very thick 4C hair that is braided in micro braids for the past 12 months. I washed and conditioned and repaired/tightened braids every two weeks without fail. I wore my hair like this in High School back in the 70's and got called Buckwheat. Then an Actress named Bo Derek braided her long blonde hair and some Black women no longer sat down and took care of their hair like we always did. And the DAMAGE that has happened to the scalp from weave is unreal. Thank you for posting this video.

Cess268 Turner: Will love to see how you style these braids. Cute style

Sylvia Smith: Good job and very good tips. Thanks will do my hair like that.

You Are God's Masterpiece: I love your videos You truly inspired me❤

Radhuya: This hair!! And this color suits your skin very well!

Diane Washington: Love it. I needed another protected style

BaekhyunFanEndedByLip bite: Your hair looks so pretty with these braids ❤❤❤❤ and I love how clean your parts are Could you do more hairstyles? Like Senegalese twists? Or Marley twists

Lindy: The braids and you look amazing ❤️

In The Name of Love: I'm loving these styles!!

Shawnna Clement: Thank you for telling us your products! I'm so much happier with my hair after using Betta Than Butta and your leave- in conditioner. I don't wake up a combo of Dianna Ross and Chewbacca, from Star Wars anymore. Can you please provide HONEST feedback as to how African Americans would view me with braids (see pic)? I would NEVER want anyone to think I'm being pretentious or misappropriating my race. For the record, my pappa was the first generation to (mostly) "pass" as white after moving to the US from Barbados. I don't look like my siblings. I'm the oddball being blonde and pale, but I still have curly, textured hair. Every day is a struggle to keep it neat and I'm done wearing a turban to avoid daily dreadlocks...

Megan Mae: The oil on rubber bands is by far the best idea I’ve ever gotten !!

Ana Fabian: you can make Portuguese subtitles available! I love your videos

Shakina Riley: I love this style a lot

Kellie Belly: I’m trying to learn how to braid to do my bfs hair, but no tutorial shows how to do the knot on the box braid without extensions. Does anyone have any tips or tutorials that show how to do the knot without extensions?? It would be very much appreciated!!❤️

Cess268 Turner: Can you do a vid on how you style these? Love your hair❤️

Tarsha Newson: Beautiful ❤️

LeekoTV Films: Thank u …the rubber band technique really helped me

IHUOMA ARIWA: Wow! This is the most beautiful style you've ever made hands down. It will even last for 2 weeks or more. If I dont have that soultanicals not butta and design essential egde sleek., what other products is good for this style? Love the style

Lisanyi Jiménez: I wish my braids looked like this. One question. Do you recommed doing the braids on dry hair or soaking wet straight from the shower? Because I always do them in soaking wet hair since it's easier to comb but my braids don't look this clean.

Ilianna Mott: i’m going on vacation and i need something to last me at least half the trip !!! gonna attempt these on my self on friday !!

BrownIsR UNDERRATED&BEAUTIFUL: Can you post what it looks like after you remove it at the end of the week?

Sarone's Sanctuary: Thank you for the great video!

Chella da kash: I wanna try this style out

emmanuella mensah: I hv these on now without the rubber bands . Been doing this for three weeks now

Miss MarG Millionaire: I'm probably gonna have like 12 comments on this video cuz I'ma keep coming back!! The oil on the rubber bands for tension is everything!

Covered Girls Travel: Love the protective style. Did it hurt? Your scalp looks red

Lady Good: Hello Does this works for relaxed hair

Chimere McCrorey: AWESOME.

Elle B. 🖤: She always does her tutorials on some nice ass shirts

Jodie Jodie: You been doing it over 2 decades girl you look as young as 2 decades xx
