Hey guys, it's you me and welcome back to my channel. This video will be talking about the reason why your protective style may be itching. Let'S just get right into this video in order to find the best solution for your itchiness. It is important that you know what is causing it. I'M gon na go through and explain the different reasons and you can see which one sounds more like you, so that you can find the right solution. So the first thing that can be causing it is the actual hair itself. So, with a lot of hair companies, they coat the hair with a preservative that is a known alkaline irritant, meaning that the stuff that they coat the hair with, has a really really high. Ph and whenever it's placed against your scalp, that has a lower ph, it irritates your scalp, which is why you're experiencing really really bad burning. Itching like it's not normal. Some people are a lot more sensitive to this alkaline irritant than other people. So maybe your sister got the same hairstyle but she's not feeling the pain, but you aren't you're, not crazy. It is normal, it happens to a lot of people and what you need to do right now, if that's happening to you, is go and buy yourself. Some apple cider, vinegar and soak your hair. It is a lot easier to just soak the hair and apple cider vinegar before you install it and that always fixes a problem for a lot of people, but you're, not gon na know that you are more sensitive to that stuff until it happens to you. So if this is the first time that it's happening to you, it's because of the hair that you're using and if you already have the hair installed in your head - and you just spent a bunch of money and don't want to take it out - you can still Dip your hair in apple, cider, vinegar, while it's still in your hair, some people just spray apple, cider, vinegar in their hair. But if it's extremely extremely burning and itching, i say the best solution is to just soak your braids get a bucket fill it up with apple cider, vinegar that is diluted and just soak. Your head in the apple cider vinegar for like 10 minutes. Make sure that you get it into your scalp as well? If you need to spray it to reach your scalp and whenever you dip it in the bucket you'll literally see stuff coming out like there'll, be clouds forming, which is the coating on the hair? That is irritating your skull. Some hair has more of the coating than others, so maybe you've been doing braids for a long time, and this has never happened to you. It could just be because of the hair that you use for this specific install. So the solution find yourself an apple, cider, vinegar, soak the hair get rid of that coating so that it's no longer irritating your scalp. So now, that's the reason why you could be experiencing itch. If you just install the braids and from day one, you are feeling that irritation. You might also feel it along your body as well anywhere that the hair touches. That'S how you know that it's because of the braids, but for a lot of other people. Honestly, probably the majority of people, they start to feel the itch a little bit later, on other reasons have to do with not the hair at all i'll go through them. So the first reason is because your scalp is dry. If you have chronically dry scalp, your scalp needs to be treated the same way as you would outside of the protective style. It'S okay, if your regimen for your hair changes, of course, because your hair is away, but the regimen for your scalp needs to stay pretty much the same. If you have dry skin as long as there's nothing heavy. Do what you usually do to keep your scalp moisturized, but now, if you're, someone that has never really had an issue with dry scalp and it's been only becoming more apparent now that your scalp is more exposed to the environment and the weather. If that is you, what you can do is implement new things to care for your scalp, specifically, whenever your scalp becomes more exposed in your protective style that can be through any oil of your choice, like some type of light oil or using grease. I know a lot of people use grease and the way to go about using grease is to spritz your scalp first with water, so that you put moisture into your scalp and then to just put grease on top of it to lock that moisture in. I know that works really well for a lot of people. It doesn't cause build up so that or your favorite oil make sure that it is light, though, because the heavier that it is, that can also lead to more problems which i'll get into the next category. That'S the second reason now. The third reason why you are experiencing itch is because probably a bigger reason than the second reason, but it is because of what is the most common cause of dandruff, which is a fungus that naturally lives in our scalp. But like half of the world's population has a negative reaction to it: producing flaking some people produce flaking very easily very quickly, whereas some people it takes them a few weeks and other people never see it. So that's why some people can go a month without ever seeing any flakes caused by this, whereas some people, after one or two days, they're already seeing a lot of flaking. But there are some people that you won't really ever notice until you go like over two or three weeks before washing your hair and then you'll start to see more of those dandruff flakes that naturally have always been producing, but now you're, just never washing them out. Do you see more of them start to build up which is leading to itching for you? You'Ll know that this problem is different from the second problem that i discussed earlier, because the flakes that you would see from dry scalp are smaller finer pieces and your scalp physically feels dry. But the flakes that you would see from this problem that i'm speaking of now are usually larger and more yellow. If your scalp feels oily to the touch, then you automatically will know that it is most likely this problem, but it is possible to have dry scalp and this problem at the same time, if your scalp feels dry and you moisturize it, but you still feel the Itchiness, it's likely that you have this other problem as well, and in that case you can treat both problems at the same time with some of the products that i'm about to talk about now. The most common approach to this problem, usually traditionally, is anti-dandruff shampoos. If you're someone that you don't really have that much of a problem you're just seeing more because you're not washing out your hair, as often there are other less harsh approaches to solving this problem, first, one that you've probably heard of is tea tree oil. So this is an essential oil, all natural, which is why a lot of people like it, but what's special about this oil, is that it has antimicrobial properties, which means it basically targets this yeast and can kill it and one great added benefit of tea tree oil Is that it is a antimicrobial that comes in oil form, so it can also help treat dryness. So, if you're suffering from both dryness and this reaction to the yeast that lives in our scalp, you can use this oil to treat both another one. That, maybe you heard of is sulfur eight, so sulfur is another substance that also targets this yeast and prevents it from over, producing and causing problems with your hair. Now that being said, those are all tea tree oil and the sulfur 8 are all really good solutions. Without having to wash your hair, which is great for protective styling, but if you're seeing more issues, you can wash your hair to just remove the flakes that are starting to build up. And i have a tutorial on how to wash your hair and for most people. That solves the problem instantly and you can also use that use washing in combination with like sulfur aid and tea tree oil, if you're, seeing this more regularly or if you don't want to wash your hair or if you have a protective style in that, you can't Wash a really good solution is just using tea tree oil using something like sulfur, eight, something that has some type of antimicrobial properties in it to help target this yeast, because, like i said this, yeast is the problem. This yeast is what's causing the itching, and that also brings us to today's sponsors, which is a station, a black owned hair care company that has an entire line dedicated to taking care of your hair in protective style. They have their naked x line, which was specifically formulated to provide an antibacterial system for it, so they disinfect and they help with like odor and refresh your hair, which is really cool. They have a lot of ingredients that i mentioned in this video in their products. Like tea tree oil and things like that, and i tried out some of their products and really like the way that they feel there's like peppermint and menthol and some of their products whenever you put it on your scalp, it feels like really refreshing, which i like. I would definitely recommend them as a good line for taking care of your hair and avoiding itch now on to the fourth reason as to why your hair could be itching in a protective style which is because pretty much the opposite of the second reason. But because you have too much oil too much moisture too much stuff on your scalp and that is causing irritation. Sometimes, when we get into a protective style and we're trying to grow our hair, we want to start using all of these oils and all of these new remedies and start applying all of this new stuff into our scalp. But you have to be careful because probably not washing your scalp out as often and if you're applying all of that stuff and just letting it sit. There is asking for your scalp to just react and start itching, and that is a big reason. Why a lot of people start seeing itch because they're putting too much stuff in their hair without washing it out, so the solution to this would be to put less stuff in your hair focus on putting lighter stuff in your hair. If you're going to put stuff in your hair or if you do plan on putting heavy stuff on your hair wash more frequently or avoid using those a big factor that is kind of like a part b to all of this, is this thing that is called Contact dermatitis: there are certain things that certain people's scalp reacts to, especially if you're putting in a new oil that has fragrance and preservatives that you're not used to your scalp can react and it reacts and creates flakes that look and mimic dandruff. So, in this case, using anti-dandruff stuff and using stuff that targets this yeast, that won't help this problem, because the problem isn't attributed to this yeast. The problem is because of whatever you're putting in your hair, that's causing your scalp to react, so be careful of putting new things into your hair. These reasons that i've listed are like 99 of the reason there might be. Like one percent of the population that doesn't fall under these categories, then i would recommend either just seeing a doctor or taking out the protective style, but most likely very, very extremely likely. There'S not some rare condition that you have. It is one of these things that i've listed, so i really hope this video helped you. I know that can be such an annoying thing to have to deal with, but that's why i really wanted to make this video. If this helped you feel free to subscribe, i have grown my hair, a lot using protective cells and i'm trying to make as many videos as i can on how to project a style properly and like actually grow your hair and protect the style. So you can watch that after this and yeah i'll see you guys in the next one. Thank you guys so much for watching

Saint Clement: Oh my gosh my head was itching so bad last night! I really needed this. Thank You!!

Maria: Thank you so much for posting this content! I have now been able to keep my braids in for 6 weeks lol. Before I would barely last 3 weeks because the itching was unbearable

Harleen Quinzel: This was very helpful! I always wondered why my scalp itched after getting braids. I have fine hair, so that already makes me weak lol, then certain brands of hair have more or less chemical film to irritate my scalp. Very educational, very thorough! && you’re ridiculously pretty btw! Hope you get plenty more subscribers for such valuable info!

pilgrim on a narrow way: Thank you! I was scratching my way through your video. Just had my hair done 3 days ago!!!

marylinn minor: Thank you for an incredibly educational video. My first install was last summer and I fell in love with the “freedom”. I exercised a lot and thought the itching was caused by perspiration. Had the done 2 weeks ago and already experiencing a lot of itching with no exercise. I detest scratching my scalp in public and need relief. The itching is really problematic. I will definitely try some of those remedies. Question: do you smell like ACV or Sulfur after spraying your scalp? If so, how do you remedy that? Super video!

Ifeoluwa Adegbola: I love how you explain the reasons and solutions to hair issues! ❤

Town of Tawiah: I love your channel! Started to follow your rules on growing my hair and I had no idea how often I actually actively damaged it until then, and I've seen so much growth now, so thank you !

Jean Parker: I couldn’t even watch the entire video. After you said that I could wash my hair with ACV while they were attached, I did it immediately!!! My scalp feels sooooo much better. Thank you!!!

Desiray'sDetails: Yes! I got box braids done on me a few weeks ago and the first week was alright with the itching, but after I washed my hair at the end of the first week, my scalp was itching soo much! I applied sweet almond oil to my scalp I think the night I washed my hair, and it helped a little, but my scalp was still itchy those days after. BLUE MAGIC ORIGINAL GREASE helped soooo much! I applied it to my scalp and the next day my hair was wayyy less itchy. I use it more often now and it really helps with the itch ☺

Gracie: I really needed this!!!! Thank you!! I got my braids done a week ago and my head is so itchy!!

Shiva G: I'm surprised at how many braiders don't know about the toxic alkaline chemicals in braiding hair. And by how many women accept itching as a natural part of the process. I'll never again use braid hair that has not been soaked in vinegar solution FIRST, before installing. I've also used EZBRAID "itch free" hair which is pre-treated to remove the chemicals. I've had seborrheic dermatitis for many years and those chemicals in regular braiding hair put me in a "flare" with unbearable itching and scalp inflammation, followed by hair loss if I don't jump on the problem. I've had to take braids down after only a few days because of this. Even if you don't have something like sebhorrehic dermatitis, why would you want those chemicals near your scalp? It's completely possible to develop a sensitivity to them when you previously had no problem.

Traci T: Soak the hair in ACV for about 20 min, rinse well, let dry, Makes 100% difference.

Naturally Awesome Fitness: Although this hasn’t happened to me, I’ve heard horror stories throughout the years from friends. Whenever I did wear styles with added hair, I would wash it with shampoo, then hang it to dry before installing. It was worth waiting the 1-2 days to dry :).

mickeyfan08: Your spot on I felt it all over my body I tryed for 2 days to keep my hair up. My hair didn't like the apple cider. It was the hair I was scratching so bad and felt it in my feet as well I took it as a loss and just took my hair down i had fake locs. love your channel.

TheGodwinfamily lll: Thank you girl I’m about to try everything you said for dry scalp cause babeeee

Chioma: I really needed this cause I really don’t like itching my hair when I just got my hair done. It always looks old after i itch it.

Angelique Soul: I think my itching is due to the synthetic hair used for my box braids. It caused contact dermatitis all over my body. I'm going to use ACV immediately. The itching is working on my nerves! Thank you for yoyr suggestion.

ray: I just got box braids like 2 days ago and the front of my head is already starting to itch and flake i do think that it is from dry scalp because its not that bad yet and i get dry scalp when my hair is not in protective styles. Anyways, Im planning to keep these in for around 3-4 weeks so i hope it doesn’t get worse. I have been using oil on the itchy parts and a rattail comb to itch the spot and also so it doesn’t cause any frizz. Anyways thanks for this video i will definitely keep some of these things in mind for next time i do braids!

Kee: This is awesome cause I literally just put in my crochet twists a few days ago and they’re already itching

MeljHarp: This is such an amazing video!! Thank you! ❤

A.: This video is very informative! I have a braid updo and I had it since may 23rd, my daughter uses some type of mousse in her clients hair..I guess to make the braids last longer. I just took the rubber bands out and let my hair down but I noticed as my braids are getting older ..my scalp itches but I don't want to use vinegar, it can dry my hair out. So I'm thinking maybe I should wash my hair with the braids in

The YouTuber’s YouTuber: Wow I did t know about that coating. I was so confused bc I never had this problem before and I thought maybe it had something to do with the fact that I just took out my locs and my hair is relaxed but my hair survived that. I bet once I take my twist out, I’ll feel much better! Thank you for this video!!

Adede Assem: Much needed... Biggest problem ever so my braids never looks neat...always scratching Can't even sleep sometimes...thank you so much❤

Donna Edwards: THANK YOU SOOO MUCH Not aware I used a different hair brand & boyyyyyy did I pay for it. LESSON LEARNED to pay attention to ALL details when getting my hair braided. My head was on & I also felt it throughout my body. The APPLE CIDER VINEGAR WORKED (Do you know if the apple cider will dry out our hair?)

Fara: Thank you so much for apple cider vinegar tip. I was able to sleep thanks to you! I ran to the bathroom and rinsed my hair in the vinegar and the next day no itching! I have never been allergic to fake hair. I don't know what kind of hair the stylist used this time but man was my scalp itchy. My scalp was hot to the touch due to me itching so much. I tried grease and it did not subside until I added the vinegar rinse. God bless!!

IONE: I really needed this. Thank you so much!!

Jamera Ash: Thank you, This helps me a lot since this is the first time I have braided my hair.

Home Here: Thanks so much! Didn’t know sulfur 8 had a anti itch/anti dandruff spray which is so much easy to apply!!

gen487: Alkaline preservative on the braiding hair should be illegal, or at least come with a big warning. I've always soaked my braiding hair with ACV before I braid my hair. I just feel there is a lack of protection and care when it comes to beauty products aimed at black women.

El's Life: What great information, thanks so much for sharing this video.❤

Tholang Quietly: I've been binge watching your content, you really love hair, it shows on how you talk about it xoxo

Nancy Amon: Thank you Seun, could you please show us how to cut split ends?

Amy Woodward: Thank you so much I've done one of your first steps which is soaking my hair extensions because tomorrow I'm getting my hair done and I am nervous terrified because the first time I got it done after a couple years I had this happen and never had it happen before so pray or not itchy tomorrow and love these and I will use your extra oil hair care tips thank you wish me luck

Kaymit Lit: Thank you so much for this video I unpacked bundles that's smell weird and was hesitating whether to watch them before or after. Now I will definitely wash them before . Thanks again

Brothers & Co: When my hair itches I just shampoo Once I left it , went 1 month without washing and kept scratching my scalp and my edges fell out. Never again!

LuCreacia Williams: That Sulphur 8 has never let me down. Thanks for the video!!

tshidi khutlapye: Thank you thank you, it was my second time with this problem. it burned after the soak but i sprayed with the ACV after drying the hair. the smell don't really bother me i know what its doing, i have peace.

Niah: I love your channel and thank you for these amazing videos

Vicky Perry: Can it make your skin itch too ? My whole body has been itching me since I got my faux locs done

Hopefulbond: I’m about to take this stuff out and I just got it done.

Simplyyy Mixmi: Me scratching my head rn with yarn braids in:

SHe SiNGS: HIGHLY informative....THANKS!!

Being Dijah: I only itch in the front of my head and I get dandruff too. The rest of my head stays okay so I stay away from braids and protective styling. Such a hassle

Zorah M.: thank you, I was not sure if it was because fo the alkaline, I am new to protective styling and didn't know this stuff was on the braiding hair! I will soak my braids this time, the itching is unbearable. For next time I will surely prep my braiding hair by doing this ACV rinse beforehand!

VenusXtravagant: I did this and it’s still itchy

Manuella: that's why when I used the Cantu root rinse my hair wasn't itching as much and I kept my braids longer

Avery Canicus: Thanx. The tea tree oil stopped my itchy feeling at once.

Roseanne Kerr: Thank you for this. Informative.. I love your hair btw, it so great!!!

Thirteen Hales: Once I started soaking the braiding hair in the vinegar/water mixture BEFORE I get my hair braided, everything was peachy. Been doing that for years. You're right about the contact dermatitis. Ppl can also try putting a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in their shampoo to treat their dry scalp.

Michelle Thompson: My daughters scalp itches very bad with braids in. What is the exact measurement of apple cider vinegar should I use to soak braiding hair in before it is installed in her hair??

doreen namara: Your hair is so pretty . BTB video is on point though. It helps shed light on my dry scald and flaking challenges.

choco milk: When I cornrow or twists just my natural hair, after 2-3 days the crazy itching starts! Even without using extensions. Why does that happen?

natukunda marian: Number 1 was me!!!! It was a burning itch!!! I scratched & even got a wound on my scalp

marian B: At timestamp 6:25, what do you mean by adding Sulphur 8 to an already OILY scalp? I don't understand...I thought you were adding the grease because the scalp is dry?

Ledda G: I tried everything. EVERYTHING. Had to take my braids out 2 weeks later cause the itching would not stop.

LaTanya Mikell: Thanks for sharing information cause load's of people don't even know it

Fine Natural Hair ROCKS: Oh wow. This all makes so much sense to me now wrt the alkaline film on hair. I’ve suddenly become allergic to my favourite wigs and I just couldn’t figure it out. I was about to throw the wig out completely but after watching your video, I likely will not do that. Lol
