Hi everyone welcome back to my channel if you are new here. Thank you so much for joining us. My name is Kayla and I make new videos every week on beauty, fashion and lifestyle. I would appreciate it so much if you would subscribe down below if you like this video and, of course give it a thumbs up if you do enjoy content like this, so today's video is one that has been highly requested, and that is all about my tape And extensions, so ever since I started YouTube a few months ago, I have always gotten questions about my hair and how I do like what like. What'S the deal with tape, in extension, so I've gotten that question a ton. So today I'm just going to sit down and answer all of the questions I receive on a daily basis about my hair yeah. I have had them for a few months now, or I guess two months, maybe um so I felt like it was a good time to sit down and answer all the questions. I feel like I'm comfortable with them now I know what I'm talking about a little bit so now it's a great time for me to answer all of your questions. So if you are interested in hair and tape and extensions, then definitely keep on watching. Ok, so number one: what are tape and extensions if you're watching this, and you have no idea what I'm talking about tape and extensions, are hair extensions that you go to the salon and get put in professionally, so they are literally tape. I know a lot of people are like. Is that just a word for it or is it actually taped in your hair? It is actually taped into your hair. So I know you guys are like what the heck, if you've, never seen them. I will go ahead and show you my tape, extensions. You can see them, so I have my closest one is right here. So yes, this is just a piece of hair that is taped into my real hair. Just looks like that, and they are very flat, extremely comfortable. I don't even know they're there. It just feels like my hair and I love them. That'S what you need to know. First and foremost in this video is I love my tape in hair extensions. I honestly can't imagine my life without them. Now I mean I just love them they're, so great, and it's just my hair. You know so um anyways, let's move on so yes, that's what they are. They you're put in with medical grade tape. So it's not gon na be fallout, it's it's in there I mean it's stuck in your hair. I don't it's not gon na come out on its own, really, if it does it's probably just because you've had them in for way too long or someone really pulled your hair, but I'm pretty rough on my hair and I have had no issues with them coming Out or me feeling like nervous about them coming out at all, so I don't think that's really an issue. Okay, so now into my exact experience. So what brand is my hair, which is kind of a weird question, if you're not into hair extensions, but my hair is Donna Bella, so there are multiple different extension companies that you can get here from. There is Bella me: they sell tape in hair extensions, there's, remy, hair extensions, there's a ton, I think Remy makes athens, I'm not sure, but anyways mine are Donna Bella, and the only reason that I have Donna Bella is because my particular salon that I've went to For years to get my hair done, they use Donna, Bella hair and they are certified through Donna Bella. That is the only reason why I have Donna Bella hair extensions and also they're more affordable than like Bellamy or places that you would find online. So I definitely recommend going to a salon and getting a consultation to see what hair they use, how expensive it's gon na be for you because it honestly varies. It depends on the hair and it depends on how much you need, etc. I will get into all of that later leave mine. I can't remember my hair stylist, like does all of the decision-making for me cuz, I'm, like I don't know I just I don't like hair. You guys know that about me. I'M not a hair girl. I don't know much about it or cared a lot much about it. So I just let her do her thing and I think we ordered me. I think they're 20-inch definitely not 22 they're, either 18 or 20. I want to say 20, so I'm pretty sure they're 20 inches and of course they look a little shorter right now because I do have them like pretty tightly curled. But I love the links. I'M super happy with the length. If anything, I would go a little longer. Okay, next question: how much hair do you need? So, if you're familiar with tape and extensions, you know that you buy the hair in packs, so how many packs you get just depends on what you want. So a lot of people with short hair get only like two packs to make their hair thicker or have like more volume. I obviously wanted length and volume, so I needed a full head or full set of extensions. Therefore, I ordered five packs of hair, so five packs is standard for a full set. You can go up to six or six and a half packs if you really want like full, full hair um, and if you have a big head I mean that definitely comes into play. If you, if your hair, if there's not enough room for six packs - and you can't do that, you'll just have to go in for a consultation and see what you can do also, if you have really fine thin hair, you might not be able to get as Many packs in your head because they'll show, but my hair was pretty sick to begin with, so I could easily fit another pack if I wanted to, but I'm pretty happy with what I have right now. So I don't think I would, but I do know people who have six and a half packs in their head. That'S a lot of hair! So just keep that in mind and, like I said you just really have to go in for a consultation and see what's best for you what's best for your hair type, your hair length, what you want and everything like that and you can also order the packs And at least from Donna Bella everyone's different, so definitely see which brand you're going with what options they have that are available, but you can usually get them in whatever color you want. I know Donna Bella has like pink and blue and purple and gray, and all these fun colors too. So if you wanted just like a strand of like grey in your hair - or I guess I should say silver or like purple or something you could totally do that I've thought about it. I think that is so fun. I honestly might do it in the summertime because you can take them out really easily. You just go into the salon. Have them take that out and you can still keep the hair. So they're super easy. But if you just want to go doctor'll, you can do that too. So I what we did - and this again is like my stylist - she figured it all out for me. I told her kind of what I was looking for. What I wanted to do and she ordered what I needed and put them in, so she ended up ordering. I wanted this like highlighted. Look so my natural hair color is the star brown color. So I wanted that, but I also wanted a little bit of like blonde highlighted Lord sort of look in there. So what she did is she ordered three packs of ombre extensions and then two packs of the dark brown and she sandwich them together. So she put like one ombre, one brown like sandwich them together and then my real hair in between so that kind of gives this like highlighted, look that you're seeing throughout and I'm obsessed with it. She did an amazing job, okay! Next, how long do they last this is the most asked question that I get because obviously, if you're spending money on fake hair, you want it to last a pretty long time. So, there's two answers to this question. So what you do is you buy the packs of hair that hair lasts for a year. Typically, if you take good care of them, so I will have the same exact hair for a year um and then, after that, you'll have to buy more like five more packs or some people do like. If you've had your hair for eight months, they'll just like gradually add packs and like switch them out the ones that are starting to look dingy, but then some packs will look fine. So again, that's just something your stylist can kind of help you with and um. You guys can decide like okay do. I only need two packs right now like and you can just kind of order them gradually so you're not spending that initial huge price at the beginning every single year, if you want to keep them for multiple years. So that's how long the actual hair lasts, but your extensions lasts seven to eight weeks and then you have to go into the salon and have them moved up pretty simple process. It'S really not that bad and it's totally worth it. In my opinion. Basically, your hair grows and your extensions are taped into your hair. So you just they'll grow out, so my highest one is like right here: it'll probably grow to right here and then and in seven to eight weeks. I will just have to go. Get them put back up at the normal, regular level, so short answer for that question: the hair lasts a year, but the extension process lasts seven to eight weeks. You have to go in seven to eight weeks to get them put back in with that being said, if you want to take a break if you're like, oh my god, these are annoying me. I want to just take a break, but I don't want to like get rid of them. You can keep the hair you paid for the hair. The hair is yours. So if you wanted to do a seven to eight week, say you want them like for your wedding or whatever put them in for seven to eight weeks. Take them out after that, your your, your stylist will just go ahead and take them out she'll package up the hair, give it to you, you'll, keep it and then, whenever you want them put back in you, take that same hair to your stylist and she can Put them back in whenever you want, so that's really nice for people who don't want them for a long term, use like you're still paying for hair that will last a year and that year, if you wear them for a year straight, which, like I'm doing obviously The only last year, but if you don't wear them that often they could last for, like I don't know a really long time, so it just depends on what you want to do with them and how you plan to wear them. Okay, so that kind of brings us right into the next topic, which is maintenance. So, as I said, the main maintenance that you're going to have is the appointment every seven to eight weeks to get them moved up. That appointment usually takes, or it took me with a full set of five packs of hair. It took me like three hours in the salon, so it just depends on what you're doing so. Basically, what they do is they take your extensions out and they use a very safe like spray kind of like an oily spray. They spray it on your extensions, massage it pull your extensions out. Take the tape off clean the extensions clean, your hair and like massage your scalp, really get in there and wash your hair, and then they put new tape on the extensions and reinstall them into your head. So it does not hurt very painless. You don't even feel it. The only thing that you're gon na have to worry about is the time that it takes to put them in. So you do have to consider. You are gon na be sitting in the salon for a couple of hours when you go for the reinstallation process, the initial installation process, when you very first put them in they, don't have to clean the extensions they're already clean. They don't have to clean your hair. It'S already clean, so that takes no time I was in there for like an hour. She was like bam, bam bam, put them all in, and I was good to go other than that. Your daily maintenance is going to be making sure to take of your hair. This is really important because if you do not brush your extensions with your hair, they're gon na be a tangled mess. You have more hair now than you've ever had in your life. Probably so it is so important to brush it. It'S going to get tangled within itself if you do not brush it, I used to wear clip-in extensions before I got taping extensions. So most of the time, if you bought clip-in extensions, they come with a brush. So I just have this Bellamy brush. That came with my clip in extensions that I had before these, so I've just been using this. It'S a soft bristle brush. I mean there's not much to it. You can get one like this at your drugstore Walmart CVS, whatever this is just what I've been using and I literally in yes, you can run over the top of the extension you'll hear like a noise like you're running over tape, but it's fine they're not going Anywhere so just be sure to brush it. I know a lot of people are scared to brush their extensions because they feel like it's gon na, like pull them out or anything. I promise those babies are not going anywhere. Please brush your hair. So what I do is every night before bed I brush my hair and I braid my hair. So that is another important thing. Every night before you go to bed, you want to be sure to braid your hair. I usually do one braid in the back or I do two long braids in the front or if you're really lazy and don't want to do that say, you're having a night where you're just like I'm so tired, I'm going to bed. I don't feel like doing that. I usually just have a scrunchie on hand, one of those really soft stretchy ones, and I put my hair in a loose pony in the back, and I sleep like that. And I've been perfectly fine and that's mostly just to make sure it doesn't get tangled within itself, while you're sleeping or whatever and braiding. It is nice because it does take out the added work of doing your hair the next day, because it's already a little wavy yeah and then usually, when I wake up in the morning, I'll just brush it out and style it or straighten a few pieces. In the front and go whatever you want to do, the only other thing that I would say as far as maintenance is to be sure you put like oil on the ends of them from time to time, because your extensions don't produce natural oils, like your real Hair does so you want to make sure that the ends don't get super dry and everything like that, the oil that I and love is the lanza keratin healing oil. So I get this off of Amazon. It'S super easy to get, and it's really really nice. You only I mean I've had this for like a year and I've barely even touched it like use it. I use a lot more now that I have extensions, but this stuff is amazing. It lasts so long because you don't need a lot. I literally just get a dollop on my hands, rub it together and put it in the ends of my hair, just like this and I'm good to go, and that just like makes a world of a difference, because your hair just feels so much more moisturize and Nice and silky, so I love doing that next question: do they damage my real hair? No, your extensions are not going to damage your real hair. They are medical grade tape. It'S not damaging. It is perfectly fine and healthy for your hair. If you get them done professionally, if you try to take them out yourself, it'll probably damage your hair, because it's tape, you're gon na, be ripping out some of your real hair. But I will say if one does fall out and you see a bunch of hair. Come out with it, it's probably just your real hair that is naturally shedding, but you have to keep in mind. You have tape in your hair, so how your hair would naturally shed all of that natural shedding is getting caught in that tape, so, where you would see a bunch of hair fall out in the shower from natural shedding you're. Not gon na see that so much anymore because it's all getting stuck in that tape. So if one tape and extension does fall out, then you might see a lot of extra loose hair and you might be like. Oh my god. This is ripping out my hair, but it's really not it's just that natural shedding that didn't come out. Naturally, because it's stuck in the tape for a personal experience. It has not damaged my hair. I'Ve had them taken out and put back in once and I love them. I don't think it's damaged my hair at all. If anything, it makes my hair grow more because I'm not putting as much heat on my real hair. I just style my extensions and the style usually lasts like a couple of days, because styling lasts more on like fake hair than your real hair. Of course, if you get all of your fake hair taken out, your hair is gon na feel super super thin because you've had an extra pound of hair now, so keep that in mind, if you take it out and your hair is like and you're like. Oh, my hair is so thin, it's probably just because you are used to really thick hair, so keep that in mind, but other than that, I can't say from personal experience that they have damaged my hair at all. Another question: where do I go to get mine done? I live in Virginia, so I just go to a local place here in Virginia that I have went to for years. I would just look into where it's done in your local area, just search like tape in extensions near me, and something will pop up and do research on like each place. That does it and then schedule a free consultation with some of the salons around and see what they say and at the end of the day, just go with who you feel most comfortable with and who you trust the most and I think you'll be good. Another question I get a lot is: can I wear my hair up with extensions and a lot of people say yes to this question, but I'm gon na go ahead and say no, but I will also say I think it depends on how much hair you have In your head, I have five packs, so it's a little difficult for me to wear my hair up and I high pony I just personally wouldn't do it. It freaks me out too much about like people being able to see my tape, ins and whatever the only time I wear my hair up is when I'm going to the gym and usually when I'm just going to the gym I'll, just put it in a super Low pony, like this, my tapings go like almost to the base of my hairline and the back, because I have a lot of tape, ins and but if you don't - and you don't have as many that low, then you might not have that issue and you might Be able to wear it up a lot more easily, but for me I can't really - or I'm just too nervous about people being able to see the tape ins. If I wear my hair up so I choose not to like. I said when I do go to the gym. I just put it in a low pony in the back, and I have no issues with that huge huge question: how much do they cost? Probably, what you've all been waiting for, and I'm gon na tell you right now it depends. I know a lot of these questions are like it depends, but it really does. It depends on how many packs of hair you want. Each pack of hair costs a flat price, and that depends on what brand you get and what style you get Donna Bella from what I have seen from all of the other brands is probably one of the most affordable brands of hair. I'M gon na be very upfront, you guys and tell you exactly what I paid for mine and if you think this is crazy or you would never pay that much for hair, and that's I understand that. But this is what I wanted to do, and this is what I did so. I got five packs of hair and I paid about 400 ish dollars, four or five packs of hair. That 400 dollars will last me for a year because I don't have to get rid of this hair for a year as long as I take good care of it, then for the initial installation process, I think it cost about $ 100 and then every time you Go back every set every seven to eight weeks. It costs about 120 dollars to depend if you get no color done, if you get no colour done, it cost 120 dollars to put them back in this. Is that my salon in a very small town yeah, it just doesn't cost a lot where I'm from so that's actually a very cheap price for me um. I know a lot of my friends and, like bigger cities, pay like crazy amounts for their hair, just because it's a bigger city, things are more expensive. Donna Bella, like I said, is one of the most affordable brands of hair that I've seen Bellamy you're gon na be paying over a thousand dollars just for the hair. If you get, if you only get two packs of hair, it's gon na be a lot less. That'S probably gon na, be, I would say, if you're doing Donna Bella like 150. Maybe I sleep in these, I wash it like normal. I style it like normal. No one ever knows I have on extensions at all unless I tell them, and that brings us to washing and styling it. Like. I just said a lot of people ask me, so: do you take them out or like do you sleep in them? Do you shower with them, so no, I do not take them out ever. You cannot take them out. Personally, you have to go into a salon to get them taken out. So no you don't take them out. Yes, you sleep in them. Yes, you shower in them. Yes, you do everything in them, they're, just like your normal hair, it's real hair, you're good to go! Oh, like I said. When sleeping, I just tie it back and a loose pony or a braid, whatever you're good, to go when showering wash your hair just like normal at first, it will be a little weird just cuz, like you, have all this tape in your hair. So it's kind of like hard to maneuver and like really get your scalp clean, but you'll get used to it and a lot of people. I feel like get worried that, like oh I'm gon na, like accidentally, pull them out or something like that. You'Re really not like you're fine, just wash your hair, like you, normally would and you're good. The only things that matter when you shower are the products that you use and where you use them so for shampoo and conditioner. The only rule is that you want to make sure it is sulfate free honestly. This is pretty easy, because that has become a big trend. Lately is like buying sulfate free shampoo, because these sulfates are damaging to your hair and they are not good for your extensions because they can kind of loosen your extensions and you don't want that. So as long as you're, using a sulfate free, shampoo and conditioner you're. Good and, of course, don't put conditioner on your scalp or where your tapes are, so I usually just put my conditioner from here down. If you even want to use conditioner, if you don't don't worry about it, my personal favorite is by olaplex. I love these. I talked about them in a favorites video. I just used the olaplex shampoo. This stuff goes a long way. You only need a little bit and it lathers like crazy, but it has no sulfates. That'S a good shampoo and you can just look in the ingredients if you're not sure and um. If it does have, sulfates it'll usually be one of the first five ingredients love this shampoo and then I use the olaplex number five bond maintenance conditioner as well, like I said only on hair down. So love these. If you're interested in a more like high-end, shampoo and conditioner, I think these are about 20 bucks each. So like $ 40 for these sets, and then as far as washing your hair, you, if you have a full set of hair, I would not recommend washing it. Every day, or even every other day, I would wash it at most twice a week, and I know this is scary for some people who wash their hair everyday, but I promise you, if you train it, give it a couple weeks, use some dry shampoo. It will get better and you'll get used to it. I wash my extensions once a week. I know crazy right. What I do in between is obviously people are guys, never understand it's so funny. My fianc is like, so do you just thought shower and I'm like yeah? I should I shower every day, but I use a shower cap. So what I do is, I just loosely tie my hair up put it on top of my head. Put my shower cap on and shower like that. This one is from dry bar from Sephora, really nice shower cap. It is like terry cloth on the inside and really nice. If you're gon na be using a shower cap shower cap a lot, I would definitely recommend getting a nice one if your real hair, it gets super greasy in between washes because, like I said, I only wash these once a week, sometimes I will section out my Real hair up here from where the above, where the first tape is just like this tie the rest of my hair back, and I will just wash this section of hair I'll, just put it in the sink or like in the bathtub and I'll. Just wash this little section right here if it gets like super greasy or something, and it's actually not as hard as it seems at all, I just put shampoo in it and I usually don't. I don't condition that either because it'll just make it more greasy, but yeah I mean it's really quick and simple, and the only reason for that really is that, obviously the more you wash it the looser. Your extensions are gon na get kind of. I, like I said I've always kind of washed. My hair, like twice a week, I'm at the most three times a week when I didn't have extensions. So I just what I did get extensions. I stretched it to washing my hair once a week and then my real this top section of my hair twice a week. So I don't know it just depends it's something you have to get used to. If you only have a couple packs of hair in your head, not an issue for you shower, like you normally would, and also when you have a full set of extensions. I think you're perfectly fine to wash it twice a week if you want to, but a lot of it is just like it takes so long to dry, it cuz it's a lot of hair and it takes forever to dry and style. Your hair, like honestly, an hour and a half not even lying so for me, that's a huge factor. I don't want to spend the time drying my drying and doing my hair. So that's why I wash my extensions as little as possible. Ask for styling you're gon na want to style it. Just like you would your normal hair, I curl mine same product same hairspray, same dry, shampoo, same leaving treatments. Of course, just don't put them on your scalp on directly on your tape ends, but other than that I style it exactly the same, just be a little more careful that you're not putting the straightener directly on the tape and like pulling it down like straightening it. That'S really the only thing and I honestly haven't had issues with it. As for the installation process, I think I've already touched on this a little bit, but basically there are little strips of hair like this I'll insert a picture of what it looks like here. I know I already showed you one of my tapes but a bigger picture right here: yeah so they're, just like little inch and a half, maybe two inches strips, and they literally just put tape on them. Peel it off sandwich it between your hair and another tape and yeah. That'S it and they just do that. All around your head and a little pattern. I guess I don't know how they do it. They'Re all like certified and like take classes and stuff on it, but I don't really know another question: can you ever see them or know that their extensions and my answer is no most people in my life did not know. I had extensions until I literally said to them: these are extensions, they're, fake hair, it's fake hair or, if I just like randomly had like short hair one day and then like came back a long hair. Obviously, they're like what happened, but for the most part, if I haven't seen people, no one ever ever ever thinks they're extensions. Okay, guys. I know I said I was gon na keep that quick, but there was so much to answer. I hope that I answered everything that you have questions about. If I didn't leave all of your other questions down in the comments section down below and I will be sure to answer all of them and yeah, I hope that you guys found this video super super.
