Short To Long Hair Extension Removal And Maintenance

2 months ago I had a full head of hair extensions (on short hair) and here is the update! I go through the whole process of removing them and replacing most of the tapes PLUS how I take care of it and the things I've learned since having them done. This includes some major dos and don'ts if you're thinking of getting extensions!

Hair extension brand - Show Pony

Salon - Alan Buki For O&M, Paddington, Sydney

Hey guys, it is justin here, so it's been about two months since i had my hair extensions done and today i'm going to the hairdressers to get them all taken out and all put back in again. This is something that i wanted to show you all, because you know, and i don't think a lot of people really cover the whole maintenance side. It'S been, you know, like i said a couple of months. Obviously, your hair extensions grow out and need to be put back in again uh. So i wanted to take you along with me today, as we go back to alan buki for o m in paddington here in sydney and yeah go through that whole process. I am actually having my wefts at the back for those of you who haven't seen in my other video. I had a full head of hair extensions, uh, all tapes, um sort of around the sides and on the top, and then we ran out of hair. So we had to put some wefts that i had in the back, so i'm gon na have the wefts um taken out and we're gon na replace them today with some hair extensions uh and then give all the others a bit of a freshen up. So i'm gon na take you guys along with me, let's head off and we will go to the hairdressers now all right. So here you can see the back of my hair. These are the wefts uh and you can see that they really do need to come out. They have kind of slipped a little bit. You can see my shoulder hair underneath they're looking a little bit scraggly, and it was time for them to go so to get the hair extensions out here. We'Re taking some of the tapes out. You basically use a spray solution and you put it on the tapes and then it breaks down the glue that you use to stick them together and then once you've sprayed it on. You basically just separate the two tapes and they come away and you're left with your old short hair, and this is what my hair looks like without any extensions in it. This was a bit of a shock. Seeing this i hadn't seen my hair. You know in a couple of months um, so we gave it a really good wash. It was so nice to just run my fingers through my hair, and then we gave it a little bit of a blow-dry and to my shock and horror, this is what it looked like. I feel like i've got to go pick the kids up from soccer. The next steps were to basically put the extensions back in now here we're using four different colored tape, extensions and they go in a brick kind of laying pattern which you've probably seen in a lot of other hair extension videos here we're putting alternate colors with each Other so on one side, you'll have blonde on one side: you'll have the browner color, and that way you get a much more natural. Looking layering of the colors, so full length extensions in almost finished. I just need to put a few last minute ones in uh that you kind of look at the hair at the very end and see where a few little filler ones need to go and then cut it off and then the end result is beautiful. Voluminous tarzan hair, which i'm obsessed with every time i look in the mirror, and i love it so here we are with the end result now i have to say i thought i loved my hair the most last time like the first time i had it done, But i love it even more this time it is slightly longer which um i'm loving. I don't mind it, but it's a little bit longer this time and now that it's done. I kind of wanted to take you through a few things that i've learned, because what a lot of you have said in my initial video, which you can watch um i'll, put the link up to it on the screen. A lot of you commented on that and wanted to know. You know details around maintenance and stuff like that, so this is probably one of the biggest ones is going in and having it maintained, a lot of people don't show that a lot of people get it done. They show the end result. They show how amazing it is, and that's the end of it, whereas it is actually a high maintenance thing to have hair extensions like this is a commitment. It'S what i say to people. It is a commitment and a half, but it looks amazing, and i love it now. The few things that i've learned are when you're buying your hair extensions. What i did last time was, i bought some high quality ones and i also bought some cheaper ones online. Now, while the high quality ones obviously lasted, a lot of them have been re-put back into my hair. Um. The low quality ones were okay, the first time i washed them, and they dried they dried very frizzy. They were probably about the third of the cost of what the high quality ones were, but i wanted to see how they would go and whether you know you needed to kind of like invest a lot of money in hair extensions or if it was okay to Get cheaper ones so when it came time to take out the cheaper extensions and the high quality ones, the high quality ones were fine, the cheaper ones literally disintegrated in my hands. So basically, all of that hair had to be thrown out. The tapes just fell to pieces um, i guess after the water and the washing - and you know um some of them had slipped and i'd put them back in again, they just didn't survive. So i had i got about two months out of those hair extensions. So if you're looking at buying them from an online website or from an app or something like that, just be aware that you know they're not going to be the the best quality feeling which you can deal with by styling them, but also too. They won't. Last very long they will practically fall apart in your hands, as you take them out of your hair. Another thing to note is that i have seen a lot of people talk about conditioning hair extensions. Now, when i first had mine put in my salon said it was perfectly fine to put conditioner down at the roots which i've seen a lot of people say that um you shouldn't do that and you should go from the mid lengths down only but every time I wash my hair and put conditioner in it was perfect. It was not a problem. The tape they used was awesome. Then i'm a little bit of a diy person. A few of them had slipped out through heat, styling um. I do a lot of tv work. So when i'm in hair and makeup, you know having my hair done, you know obviously they're using the straightener or the curler or whatever to style them, and they do pull a little bit and slip down and also they grow out as well. So i went to a wholesaler here in sydney and picked up some tapes. Now these are tapes that i've used before and i've always been very wary of not getting conditioner near them. I fixed up a few that had like slipped out and then got into the shower and completely forgot that i'd done that washed. My hair conditioned my hair and, as i was going like this and pulled my hands forward about six of my hair extensions fell out and those were the six that i had put in with the different tape. So i will say that if you are doing them yourself, maybe chat to your salon find out what tape they use, because i needed to do that. I brought a completely different brand of individual tapes, whereas my salon uses one that's on a roll and the individual tapes. You can't get conditioner anywhere near them was an utter nightmare. You can imagine six hair extensions and they were mostly from around this area. They all fell out into my hands. I had no idea where they'd come from. If one of them does fall out, you know or comes out, and you know where it comes from, you can easily. Just like you know, have your salon or do it yourself and put it back into that spot, whereas i was in the shower. I had no idea where these extensions had come from. I kind of just had to get out of the shower and guess and dry. My hair and put them all back in again and then be really careful with the conditioner. Now that i've had them all redone with the tape for my salon, it's actually perfectly fine to put the conditioner on them, but i won't be using that tape that i purchased to fix them. Okay, let's talk about wefts for a minute now those wefts that i used last time were good in that situation because we did run out of hair and i just happened to have them at home, and that was just something that i brought just to have a Little bit of a play around with, but i actually wouldn't recommend wefts for hair, in particular for men, because they're quite bulky um, if you can imagine a hair extension in that kind of black um stitching, that's along the top when you start stacking that, on top Of each other, like i do for my hair, it just got really bulky and essentially they're meant to sit flat um. So when you start moving them around, putting them up, you know kind of trying to move your hair into a ponytail or whatever it's it's. Just not practical at all and they did pull quite a bit um. I would have like a couple of days of my hair pulling until it would grow and settle down which, for some people might be normal. But honestly i i've had tapes put in like this time. Getting the tapes put in it's practically. You can go straight away, they don't hurt, they don't pull, there's no aching or anything like that when they're putting correctly um with the wefts, they need to be put in quite close to your scalp and just that method of using those rings. I'M just not a fan of it. I i wouldn't recommend it um. The hair was not the best quality. I would 100 go for just all tapes. If you can uh now a few of you asked me what kind of tapes i use so this time around, i have had all of my hair extensions taken out and i've had a whole new set put in with a couple of the high quality ones that Were left over from last time and the brand that i used this time was show pony hair extensions. What we picked were four different colors for my hair, because color blending is so important, and that was one thing that a lot of people complimented me on last time was the fact that my extensions were a great color match, which this time it's like, even better. You can see like great dark root, blended down to the nice blonde. It looks multi-tonal, so we have four different colors in here some darks and different blondes one of the colors was called cinnamon. One was called um. I think it was vanilla, milkshake, i'm a huge fan of these tape, extensions they are so easy to put in. They feel incredible and they're. They are, you know, high quality and we've gone for all high quality this time, so they should last a lot longer now, for those of you who ask me about styling, um styling them is tricky. I think the key here is: don't ever think that you can wear your hair perfectly straight. I'Ve said that to a lot of girls, who've asked me about this. When they've come up to me, some of them on the street, which is super cute, please keep doing that because i love talking about my hair extensions uh. So when you're styling your hair, i really feel like it needs to have some kind of curl in it. It needs to have like a nice little wave. Don'T ever think you can wear it poke a straight because that's when you'll start to see layers and you'll start to see where it separates um, also putting it up. A lot of guys have asked me about that. Um, i do put it up, i'm just waiting for my hair to grow a little bit longer before i show you how i do that because it's not perfect um, i do you know, have it up when i'm you know exercising or at work and i'm getting A little bit hot because it's coming into summer here now in sydney. So but you know you can see the tapes a little bit, especially when you start lifting the hair up and my hair isn't quite long enough, yet to hide all of those. So i will do another video on styling when it is at the right stage and um. I know a lot of you are very keen to see how a man bun is done, so i will show you eventually how that is done. As for my day-to-day maintenance at the moment, i am washing it twice a week, so um like i, was saying before with my tv work every now and then we do have to put a bit of like hairspray and product through. I try not to do that. Myself because it can get a bit of a build up, especially with so much hair. So at the moment i'm sort of doing like a midweek wash and maybe a weekend wash because then washing it conditioning it blow drying it straightening it and then curling. It is a big commitment it takes about an hour to do it so try and set aside some time to do that myself, um and then, whenever i hop into the shower during the week, i just make sure i have a shower cap on and keep it Nice and dry, and then some mornings i just get up and just um, get my hair straightener out just put a few loose curls through it. Depending on what i've got on. I try and do them a little bit tighter than what i would normally feel comfortable wearing them as because they, you know, curls drop. As you know, i don't want to be putting hairspray in my hair every day to keep it um. You know in place so yeah just give it a little bit of a curl in the mornings and then it's good to go um, keep it nice and simple, and not too over styled. You kind of want that. Look of you know, jumping out of bed and just having great hair, it's really hard to achieve that. That'S kind of my day-to-day maintenance for the time being, and that's pretty much it for my update on my hair extensions. I am loving it. I am going to keep it for a while um, it's it's so much fun. It'S such a topic to talk to people about whether they think my hair is real or not. They a lot of people just come up to me, like i said on the street and they're like, oh, my god, your hair, uh thinking that it's real and then, when i tell them that it's hair extensions they're like what and then we talk about it for Ages, um, which i love to do, and it's yeah it's just such a an awesome thing to talk to people and educate people about. So if you ever see me and you want to come up and have a look and see how it's put in, i am more than happy to show you. I'Ve shown a lot of people so far, i'm not afraid to show people how it's done. I want to encourage other people to you, know, use these products and go to people like show, pony and and have a play around with colors and mixing them up and mixing up your hairstyle and getting thickness and fullness. And you know just being a bit more brave with your hair anyway guys. Thank you so much for watching. If you do have any other questions, please drop them in the comments. Tründi Stroyer: I have natural long hair but the hair on the crown is kind of thin, especially after about 4 inches, but I have good complete scalp coverage. Would it work to put extensions just on the crown for better body up front?

K SIN: Sis! You’re transitioning!

Cosmosk8s: i have an undercut and long hair on top just bought some clip ins and cant wait to put them in :) i would do tape ins but they are super expensive
