When you are grown a beard, you are always tempted to use hair products on your head. It may be that they're just there in the shower teasing you it may be that you've run out or you may just think. Ah, what's the harm, it's just hair. On my head now, the thing is: is that i'm gon na go through in this video, the things you can use and the things you can't use and i think you'll be surprised about all of the things you can actually use. But one of the most common questions i get asked is: can i use hair conditioner on my beard and so being a phd in chemistry? I looked at all of the ingredients on my beard conditioner and my hair conditioner and i looked to see what the difference was now. I reported each individual ingredient on my blog post about this subject at beardgrowingpro.com i'll put a link in the description. If you really want to get nerdy and get into the details, but the bottom line is, is that a beard conditioner is actually different from a head conditioner in the number of oils and butters. They tend to put into the formulation and that's because your beard is a drier location on your face than your head hair, and so they have to put in these kind of shear butters, jojoba, butters, coconut oils. All of these really lovely sort of nourishing ingredients into the beard conditioner. No, that doesn't mean that a head hair conditioner there we are got it right - can actually do some great things for your bed. Of course, they're lovely sort of nourishing things that particularly true if you've got a dry head, hair conditioner that you want to put in your beard. That'S the best option, but really there is an underlying formulation: difference between beard, conditioner and head conditioner. That really makes a huge difference to your beard when you are using it regularly. So there is a difference and i highly recommend you invest in a beard conditioner. If you haven't already got one now, let's have a look at all of the different head products that you could use on your beard and whether or not you can or should use them. This video is based on an article on beardgrowingpro.com on that blog. I am on a mission to answer every single beard question that internet has to ask so go check it out. I think it's a really valuable resource and i put a lot of science and research into the articles because i just can't get away from my phd in chemistry and i love doing the deep and dirty research and you'll find all of the really nerdy stuff. On that vlog so go check it out. So one of the biggest no-nos about head products on your beard is shampoos. Now shampoos will dry out your beard incredibly quickly quicker than a day out in the sun and in the sea now go check out. My other video, where i compare beard brand and honest amish and do a 50 50 bid experiment, but ultimately these products are designed for your beard, like i said before, your beard is a drier spot on your face than your head. Your head is kind of oily and greasy, and it can be producing a lot more sebum than your face, and also beard. Hairs are typically longer and more wiry, and the uh oil that gets produced at the root of the hair makes it very sort of difficult to kind of get to the ends, and you can do something like preening, where you pull the oils out. If you don't want to use so much, you know product but head hair. Shampoo is a complete no-no because it will strip the oils much more aggressively than a beard shampoo, so make sure that you are not using a head shampoo, but there's a ton of products that you can actually use, and this is them. I think something that's underutilized in the beard growing world is anti-frizz spray. Anti-Frizz spray is really powerful on a beard, particularly if you're combing regularly, if it's particularly dry, if you're in a dry environment and essentially what it does is the spray puts in a load of conductive elements into your beard that kind of neutralize the charges that build Up you know like that old science experiment, where you rub two different materials with cloth and they repel each other. Well, that is what happens to your beard. Heads throughout the day, wind dust, grime static, all builds up in your beard and it can just start splaying out. So if you are struggling with like a particularly frizzy beard, give an anti-frizz spray a go, i think it can be something that's really powerful. It doesn't sort of seep into the hairs. It just sits on the surface and as long as you're washing your beard regularly with actual beard shampoo and you condition it. It'S going to be a sort of valuable part of keeping your beard growing down, keeping it nice and sort of like contained within lines and yeah. If you're out and about throughout the day, it could be the secret ingredient. You need for keeping your beard looking better for longer uv protectors. Now i live in australia, where it is sunny very, very sunny and very hot and very dry in adelaide and uv protectors are so important for anywhere on your body and your beard is not sort of uh different from your skin from your head. You know slip slap, slop is what they say in australia: slip on a t-shirt, slap on a hat or slop on some sun cream. I think it is, but you can include anti-uv ray or uv ray protector spray on your beard to make sure that it's just really not being damaged uv rays. Produce free radicals, uv rays are the really high energy radiation that comes from the sun. That can actually cause deep permanent damage to the depths of your skin. Your hair, your everything so uv protector sprays that you can use on normal head hair can be used on your beard and if you live in a hot or at least a sunny climate, you should absolutely be doing that every single day, and it is something that Will protect your beard and keep it looking awesome and make sure that it doesn't get dry brittle all of the horrible things that happen? If you expose your beard to the elements regularly, another thing that goes completely unreported are heat protectors, now: heat protectors, if you're using heated beard tools, even a hair, dryer, a beard straightener go check out my other video. Where i talk about the beard, straightener experiment, i did, but ultimately, if you're using these heat tools, there is a chance that you'll be damaging the hairs inside now they work heat tools, work because the protein bonding can be disrupted by heat and then reset by cooling. Down, but when you wash your beard, it returns to its old structure, and you know they have to be relatively high heat for it to be able to break those bonds between the protein structure of the hair and reset them now. The problem is, is that this can dry out your beard from deep inside, particularly if your beard product is relatively cheap, it can go over kind of safe temperatures and it's just not very good. So a heat, protective spray that you use on your head can be used on your beard and if you use a heat protector, you can use heat tools every single day without any fear that you're going to damage your beard, because you know the worst thing is You'Ll be putting stuff into it, heating it up, it will be like all the moisture and all the goodness will be escaping. Then you don't put anything back in after you've used your heat tool so always always always use a good conditioner after you've used a heat tool. I'Ve got a great beard balm that i use a leave-in conditioner also works beard oil. If your beer is a bit shorter or you don't need the hold component of a beard wax or beard balm, but yes, heat protectors, consider it oils, lots and lots of oil. So many oils, coconut oil, jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, olive oil. You can put them all in your beard, it's absolutely fine. Now, each beard oil is very slightly different in its formulation, which means that some are easily absorbed by the beard, while others aren't one of the biggest mistakes i made in my diy beard. Balm was having the majority carrier component as jojoba oil. I looked it up. I did the science and i found that jojoba oil is not readily absorbed by the beard hairs, but it's really readily absorbed by the skin. So not all oils are equally absorbed by your beard, but any head beard. No head oil can be used on your beard because, if it's absorbed by your head hair, it can be used on your beard and oils are great use, them use them regularly, um and they will sort of like do wonders for your beard, and those are so Many unscented ones that are my favorite, but there's so many on the market. Choose your favorite explore it's one of the things that yeah i really enjoy, doing, go out and explore different beard. Oils check them out. So there we have it. There are all of the different head products you can use on your beard and the one that you definitely shouldn't and conditioner. Well, you can, but there's better ones with better ingredients for your beards, so go check it out. Let me know in the comments what you would add: what do you use that is head and beard?
