Let'S talk about these wigs y'all, let's talk about the wigs. I don't talk about wigs that often but we're gon na talk about it today, hey youtube! What'S going on, i'm super excited for this video welcome to my channel. If you are new to my channel, i am the creator of curlychemistry.com and i teach you guys how to understand ingredients from a cosmetic chemist perspective and help you guys start hair care lines as well and in this video. I'M sharing with you guys. Three hair care mistakes that might cost you your length this winter, okay and the seasons are changing and our hair has a effect on the change in weather. Okay, so in this video, i'm gon na be sharing three things to look out for and be mindful of, because i want you guys to keep your lymph okay, so stay tuned, okay. So the first thing i want you guys to know is that where there is cold weather there is dryness, because dryness runs rampant in the winter season. That'S just because the cold air has a direct effect on the cuticle of our hair. It actually draws moisture from our hair. So with that being said, you definitely want to increase your deep conditioning in these next upcoming months. Okay, if you only dc once a month, maybe do it twice a month, maybe four times a month once a week. You know, depending on your hair care, regimen and then also when it comes to your sealants. This is a good time to kind of transition over to some medium to heavy sealing oils, depending on your hair type. Now, if you are like, let's say, 4a 4c thick hair and you are used to using like grapeseed oil or something lighter in the summer months, you may want to transition over to something a little bit heavier like avocado or sunflower. You know so be mindful of the oils that you're using, because you want that moisture that you are applying to your hair to stay locked in and you don't want. You know, grandfather winter, whoever people say you know to suck that moisture out of your hair. In addition to that, i know, a lot of you guys will be switching over to heat styling, this winter, which is completely fine, but just be mindful of dryness that comes from using heat and where there is dryness, there's going to be a lack of elasticity in Your hair and when there's a lack of elasticity in the hair that leads to breakage aka, ruining your lymph retention. You know what i'm saying so make sure that anytime, you use a blow dryer or flat iron that you have done some type of deep conditioning treatment. Prior to and that you are using a heat protectant, ideally one that has silicone base, because silicone is really ideal for protecting the cuticle from excessive amounts of heat. So that is something i do recommend so keep that in mind as well. Okay, number: two: let's talk about these wigs y'all! Let'S talk about the wigs! Now here's my thing: you want to be careful of how long you keep the wig on your hair, because our scalp is just like living skin, it's skin! It'S a part of this organ that we have on our flesh. Okay and skin needs oxygen and where there is a lack of oxygen, it makes it really hard for collagen within our hair and our skin. To really do its job. Collagen is responsible for the health of your hair, hair growth. I mean it's just has so many great properties when it comes to our hair and our scalp and for it to thrive. However, where there's a lot of oxygen, collagen can't really do its thing, so be careful of how long you keep wigs on your scalp, because you really want your scalp to breathe. There'S nothing wrong with having wigs but make sure you have some breaks in between where your hair is just breathing. Your scalp is just breathing okay, okay, okay, number three is going to be stress. You want to be very careful of stress, and i want to mention, because you know in the holiday season and going into a new year, a lot of people get stressed out around this time of the year, and the reason why i want to point out stress Is because any time a person experiences like a lot of stress or some type of shock to the body, this can make the hair growth cycle go into telogen effluvium, okay, and that is a condition where it is like stressed induced shedding. So at any given time. Normally, about 15 to 20 percent of your hair, follicles are currently in shedding mode the telogen phase right, but if someone is intelligent of fluvium stress and do shedding, that can go from 15 all up to 60 and that's a lot of hair loss. Okay, so you want to be very very careful of that now, if you think you are experiencing this, you definitely look into some stress relieving activities. Maybe that's some prayer meditation relaxing, like whatever it is that you need to do to kind of relieve that stress. I do recommend that, and second, i would say, look into a trichologist in your area because they can really look at your follicle, your scalp, to really determine what's honestly going on. Last but not least, you know make sure you are being mindful of your diet. You know make sure that you are eating plenty of veggies and fruits and protein that can really help not only with your hair health, but just when you eat good, you feel good too. So definitely keep that in mind as well. Alright guys hope you have enjoyed this video and learned something new. I do have a question for you. What is one thing that you do in the winter time for your hair? Do you actually do more heat styling? Do you do more protective styling? Do you do some type of method or treatment to your hair that helps it thrive through in the winter months? And maybe you don't even do anything for your hair when it comes to the winter? You know, maybe your regimen stays the same throughout the entire year. If so, definitely comment below, let me know - and i kind of enjoy the conversation with you if you enjoyed this video, be sure to like this video and subscribe for more curly chemistry content make notifications are on, so you do not miss a feat and be sure To follow me on instagram, at charmaine369 for more cool chemistry, content on a daily basis and if you're interested in learning more about ingredients in the natural hair care industry, how they affect your hair check out. Joy Banks: I keep doing wash n go styling during the winter. My hair loves the moisture. Moisture comes from hydrating the hair through the shampoo and conditioning processes. This is where hydration occurs week to week. You have to add it back, as it is a natural process because water will evaporate from your hair over a short period of time. We often confuse lubrication and moisturization with hydration. Only water hydrates, oils/grease/butters lubricate, and creams formulated with water offer slight moisturization. We can't expect our hair to stay hydrated after shampooing. Think of it as you only drinking a cup of water for the whole week and expecting to stay hydrated all week. There is no product that will add hydration nor sufficient moisture to the hair; only water does that when the cuticle is lifted during shampooing.  Additionally, the scalp needs hydration as well. Our scalp is the foundation for healthy hair. Using the analogy comparing growing hair and a plant. If our hair was like a growing plant, our scalp would be the soil it grows out of. In order for a plant to grow, we water it. Sometimes we oil an itchy scalp when it really needs water and cleansing.

Tamara Manley: I was literally just reading an article about winter hair care for natural hair 5 mins ago and you've now come out with this video. God is telling me that I need to make sure my hair is taken care of this winter!

Marley Hill: Things I do for winter hair care.=: 1. more steams at the trichologists!! 2. More silicone/ synthetic oils on my ends. 3. more covered hair. 4.Less glycerin. 5. Less protein more moisture on wash day.

Razwanna Moore: This is my first winter wearing my natural hair out. I started my journey about three months ago, I deep condition once a week and I twist my hair and wear a twist out. This is new for me and it's alot of work but I really enjoy learning my hair. I am here for any tip, I am normal porosity. Great video!

Cinder Ling: I love wearing my hair in thick braids in the winter time! It combines well with regular scalp oiling & other TLC tactics :D Thank you again for this video sweetie!

SimplyNaturalCai: I don’t usually change my routine but I’m definitely going to switch oils this winter thanks for the tips

Marilyn Martin: During the winter months I do a lot of moisture deep conditioning and I also do the baggy method on my ends mid-week twice a month. In a addition to the above I wear styles that keep my ends tucked away. This has really helped me with length retention. Thank You for another great video.

so.many.obstacles: I keep the same routine product wise, however, I wash less in the colder months. I’ve been natural for 13 years so I’ve gotten a grasp on what my hair needs are. My main issue is settling into what I want for my hair. My 4c hair grows relatively quickly and gets long (I’ve let it grow to my tailbone) but I truly don’t like long hair. So I went back to being a baldie, but now I’m letting it grow again, but when I let it grow long I just keep it twisted and in a bun because I hate feeling hair on my face, neck and shoulders…ugh!

MzKai: Shampoo, deep conditioner, leave in, blue magic hair grease, and mini twists or a puff.

Chimere Trielle: In the summer, I use a leave in, cream and lighter oil. In the winter, I use a leave in, lighter cream, thicker cream and thicker oil. Usually avocado oil or sunflower oil and my hair stays moisturized SOOOO long! I tested on my last wash day how long I could go without remoisturizing and to my surprise, my hair was still SO moisturized after 9 days!

Carol Harper: Yes!!! This is so true. Love these tips. I switched from using jojoba oil to avacado oil because it's more heavier. I started doing oil rinses. This has helped my hair tremendously. My hair is so soft, shiny and manageable. I use a protective style. And use a deep conditioner more. Just to lock in the moisture. Thank you for sharing! Sending you, Tanya and everyone here love and light.☮️☮️

Shayf F: Stress induced shedding is real. Unfortunately I’ve been going through that here lately dealing with the unexpected death of my brother then the holidays and his and my birthday back to back has put me and my hair at a setback, I’m so glad I’ve come to the conclusion of what’s causing it and I’ve been trying to overcome it to not dwell on what’s going on.

Rachel Roberts: I use a daily moisturizer without glycerin (Camille Rose Moisture Milk) during the winter months and a heavier sealant (Camille Rose Ajani Strength Shine Balm) with babassu oil and murumuru butter

Sarail Vazquez Ortiz: It's my 4th year in ND and the 2nd with considerable amount of hair (awkward lenght; 2017-2019 I used to shave my head). So I'm still learning and trying to understand and figure out what works best for my hair when the weather changes . This winter I already started to add oil to my hair when I'm still in the shower and every other day hair lotion or leave in with a little bit of grease (no water, it's to cold for me rewet my head), then I twist .

Angela L Vann: I have not relaxed my hair in 20+ years! And so long as I keep it hydrated, I can get the desired length! I recently switched over to washing it with baking soda, and a beginning leave in conditioner of red apple cider vinegar. Because my hair is natural, tightly coiled at the scalp, s-shaped in length and curled up on the ends, I deep condition prior to washing. My hair feels and looks better than ever [so long as I keep the hodge podge of gray colored with Biden, which I only began coloring again this November after a many a year hiatus]! I’m new to your channel, but I think I am going to like it! Keep Hope Alive, in 2022! Shalom! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Maxine Luchey: I give my hair a break. Mild relaxer every 3 to 4 months. Deep condition with heat cap twice a month. Towel dry and let dry naturally as I brush mildly with Demi brush until dry. Then blow out gently with hand dryer. After towel dry I grease scalp and hair lightly. Wrap or curl with curling iron and roll. In between time oil hair aware French braid keep edges grease light. Ty with silk scarf and lay on silk pillowcase.

🌻Sunshine🌻: Hi Tonya. I've heard that Cocamide DEA causes cancer and I was wondering if that's true?, specially if it's in the first 4-5 ingredients. Also if you could do a video on dangerous ingredients in hair products it would be really helpful.

HrhSophia TheFirst: For the winter months I change my leave-ins and the moisturizing deep conditioner schedule. My leave-ins are all creamy and I do 2 moisturizing deep conditioners with no protein to one versus one to one. This works very well for me.

SipsTea👀: I wash less in the winter.. every 2 weeks versus every week in the summer since I sweat wayyy more. That's the only change I incorporate. Deep conditioning stays with my wash days. Thanks for the info!

Long Island NY: In the winter months & because of Covid, I wash & braid/twist in 4-6 braids. I’m in the nursing field so I wear whatever nursing cap that matches my scrub top to cover my hair.

Lady T: Thanks for sharing! I do the same thing, that I do all year! No Xmas over here, so no stress in that department!

Sandra Dee: My regimen stays the same i just add a little bit of oil to the length of my hair before sealing with grease

Valencia Walker: I'm relaxed these are fantastic tips. I keep my hair super mositurized. I use more heavier oils and use wigs or wear hair in buns in the winter.

The awesome person Chuney: Hi my hair regimen stays the same, I have low porosity hair& I wash & deep condition every week. I make my own deep conditioner with fenugreek. I use a heat cap every other week. I moisturize my hair every two days & I use hair grease to seal in moisture, I sleep with a satin cap & oil my scalp at night. I do the same year round. Yes I’ve been listening

Ede Barbara: I really really really love your videos!!! You're such a good teacher and you're one of the best youtubers explaining hair/trichological issues on a chemical basis. The only thing I have to point out is the quality of the audio of your videos; they'd sound clearer if you used a little microphone.

BlkScuba Queen: Happy holidays to you and family. I did a silk press for the holidays. I'm amazed at the growth. But I missed my kinks and coily hair. After the first, I reverting my hair back to low maintenance styling. But, I hydrate like crazy in the winter because I have high porosity hair. But I DC every wash day.

Felicia Dunn: I wear wigs and I enjoy them but I don’t glue them on. Most of the time I’m in a bonnet. I use grease in the winter months.

STEPHANIE: During the winter I wear satin lined beanies to keep my hair protected from the weather. I was using heavier products but Im trying lighter products to see how my mini twists hold up and last.

mia alexander: I seal with my butter blend and keep my hair Stretched!!! Clutch! Thanks honey!

Rachael Rae: I rarely if ever - even use a blow dryer. My hair is typically in two strand twist. I moisturize and seal about twice a week and if I feel like doing something special with my hair - I put my twist in a cute top knot or I will rock a wig.

Tatiana: Hey Tonya, does water have an affect on hair after applying grease to it?

bruha: During the winter months (I live in FL) I will switch up the heaviness of the oil and wash it less often (every 2 weeks) this thick shoulder length hair. With those wash days I will deep condition to retain treat my hair with much needed TLC.

Cara J: I usually stick to my routine. Wash, DC, seal twist, pin up and wrap. However, I will do a few hot oil treatments, or, more than usual ( weekly, instead of bi-weekly or 1x per month) oil rinse with my oil mix, which includes; castor oil.

Chris Martino: I was just thinking about switching up my products. In fall I was seeing good results from a line with grape seed and jojoba oil as the base but as it’s gotten colder I’m losing moisture a little faster so I was thinking of moving to something with avocado oil as a base.

Mary Clarke: Thanks for sharing! Good tips for the winter and SAD ( i.e. winter blues).

Tonettechi Naturale: In the winer I blowout and flat iron my hair. I found that this is how I maintain my length and manageability. I wash and deep condition every two weeks. I moisturize and seal with Aveda nutriplenish leave in conditioner and hollywood beauty castor oil grease twice a week. This is low maintenance and my hair is thriving way more than wearing it in its natural state.

BlaqRapunzel37: Whenever my scalp begins to itch, I apply oils using a qtip. I steam my hair using a plastic shower cap and I leave my hair alone in a protective style for about two months during the winter.

DiJah Medi: During the winter months I switch my products up. Stay away from coconut oil and products with glycerin in it because I’ve noticed that my hair feels like straw if I use anything with those 2 in it. I also try to dc more. Can’t promise that I’m consistent, but I give it a try when I do remember.

Jazmynn Montanez: The only real difference I do in the winter is I co-wash every other week. On the weeks that I co-wash, I skip my conditioner, still do my deep conditioner (I use Aussie 3 minute Australian Jojoba) and then end with my homemade leave in and I seal with my homemade oil mixture. I wear my hair in twists and pin them to protect my ends from my coat/sweaters, etc. And I still moisturize in the middle of the week. In warmer months I just shampoo every week and follow the above routine, except I wear my hair out more in the summer.

Shari Perlman: Your video inspired me to get back into deep condish! I've gotten out of my routine. This isn't the season to slack. Plus, I live in an apartment and the air is dry inside as well as outside. What are your thoughts about Moroccanoil Color Depositing Conditioning?

Barbara Berry: I live in Florida, so I stop using anti humectants in the winter. Our humidity is almost always 100% regardless the season.

Uzeni Chupa: I do no extension hair styles and head wraps or wigs when stepping out. Just now learning this oxygen issue and questioning my ways

Vanessa Jones: I continue my same routine of flat twists. I use leave in conditioners. I use Luster's Pink Lotion and African Pride Moisture Miracle Coconut Oil and Bbabobab Oil. Every three or four months I will flat iron and curl my hair. I use Cantu Shea Butter Thermal shield heat Protectant before blow drying and flat ironing my hair.

S Maxwell: Thank you for this video .. my regimen mostly stay the same .. DC every week .. btw Happy New Year

TheBklynite278: My wash regimen doesn't really change much. I still wash my hair every 7-10 days deep conditioning. I do LCO but tend to add a prepoo more often because of the drier air. I am doing henna and protein treatments two months apart. My last henna was 2 weeks ago. My protein treatment will be in February. I don't flat iron my hair so I skip that. My DIY oil has both olive oil and castor oil so this time of year it helps with moisture retention. If I wear my hair out it stays moist 4 days before I need to remoisturize. When wash day comes back around my hair still feels good.

DORIELLA DU FONTAINE: Great video. . I wear my hair straight and have fine, low porosity hair. What can I put on my scalp to keep it moisture without weighing my hair down?

Ladi B: I'm watching listening and liking. Happy holidays to you ⛄. In the winter time I wash and can deep condition every other week. And moisturize every 2- 3 days. I also wear more protective styles so I'll have less manipulation.

D H: Great content! I try to do more DC and low manipulation styles such as corn rows and braids.

Jimmonica Major: Thanks for the great info. What are some great deep conditioners for low porosity hair? I tried the As I Am Pomegranite shampoo & the Aussie avocado conditioner & they do really well on my hair so thank you for making a video about good shampoos & conditioners

Jakima Brown: I love your videos! Can you do one about protein treatments and how to tell that the hair needs it, if it needs it at all. I hear many mixed thoughts about it.

chanyeolie 61: Merry Christmas ♡♡ Personally i like to oil my hair daily during the winter. ( olive oil coaster oil coconut oil hair grease ) . Also i wash my hair less about twice a month seriously I'm too lazy during the winter .

AwesomeAJ: This year in keep my hair straight until May. I love it. I hope I can keep it up every year. So far my silk press last 4 weeks. That's a 4 week break for me.

Tina BlackberryRose: I do wear a headband wig as a form of protective style I don’t utilize the combs and underneath I two strand twist my natural hair and every three days i grease my hair at the scalp and massage my scalp. Tyfs and Happy Holidays☃️❄️

quidagis33: Thank you for addressing telogen effluvium. It does not get discussed enough!

N B: I tend to do more heat styling but i'm giving it up this winter

Cat Garcia A.: i like to prepoo, use my deep condition every week, and because it gets cold and i can get sick i do rollers sets on my hair and seal it with silicon serum and just take care of it.

Kimberly Stephens: In the summer, I can only do LC or LO with lighter oils. In the winter I can do LCO or LO with heavier oils/sealants.

Kimberly Gonzalez: Can u talk about sea moss next? I've been seeing a bunch of it lately and I'm curious how exactly it works

Lashawna Brady: @curly chemistry. Can you do a video on what happens to the hair shaft when color treated and how to take care of color treated hair? Please please

Lisa S: Merry Christmas, Curly Girly!!!

Pamela Forts: I wear a wig and protective styles. I moisturize every 4 to 5 days. Wash every 2 weeks.

Sharon Jersey Girl: Have a Merry Christmas To You & Your Family ...I Keep My Hair Plaited( If I Spelled It Right lol )

Portia: I wear silk lined hats but other than that my regimen stays the same. I figure all i need is to avoid extremely cold air.

L. Monique: How do you feel about using cholesterol for a conditioner?

GaBee Alexandera: I be using the same products I use in the summer, in the winter. I need separate routines for both seasons

Sharee Minor: updos and less manipulation and Anything that keeps my hair off my sweaters. More conditioning

Deborah Coats: I use more protective styling and I moisturize more often

J S: I don't normally change my hair products during the winter and I haven't had any issues with my hair or scalp so I guess I'm one of the lucky ones

Rhonda Weaver: I use a weekly treatment mask and only air dry.

Tracy D: I braid it in a thick braid and put it up with a scarf around so it doesn’t rub back and forth, back and forth over my thick collars and coat zippers and buttons that like to pull my hair out. I just keep layering on the products on the ends. I’m outside often. I need protection. I wait until March April to let my hair out and about.

Aik: I love your Videos and I just found out my hair porosity. Could you do more Videos on high porosity hair since I cant find to many Videos on that which are scientific like yours.

Rae Monroe: I protective style during the winter, I'm about to get some big box braids and I will apply castor coconutoil to my hair during the duration of my hair style

nelmapa: Congratulation for sharing subtitles on your new videos¡ I am a Portuguese and Spanish speaker, but I don’t understand all words in English and I love your work. I am sadly because I don’t understood well the information you said in yours past videos.

Lurae Bailey: Protective styling, hair wraps, but im getting tired of the adding of hair. Which I feel is a very good time to ask what are some protective easy winter hair that would allow our scalp to breathe yet be considered as protective

Fangbian Gongjiang: Very informative video.

ElegantPaws01: More DC and up the protein treatments. I tend to braid my hair and do a bunch.

yourfavpersuasion: Mine stays says the same except I add back in a rinse out conditioner.

faucikillspuppies: I usually don't have to do much because I live in Texas so it's rare that the weather gets really cold and if it does, it doesn't last long. But one thing that I do is sleep with a humidifier in my room. The heater really dries out the skin and hair and as someone with PRK (a form of laser eye surgery) I needed something to prevent me from waking up with dry eyes. The humidifier helps my hair, skin, and eyes. I also have a hygrometer in my room so I can monitor the humidity and temperature. * I'm being censored by YouTube so while I can write comments, please note that I cannot reply to comments.

Amanda Cowham: I have cornrows and it’s cold and my scalp is cold but I just got them a week ago. I’m here thinking whether I should take them out or not

KeturahWest: I have a question. Is it better to wear traditional sew ins in the summer time or winter time

ENO AFIA: I do protective styling with hair grease.

Angie: GM, Thank You Happy Holidays, You're the best!!!

Willeneful: Thanks for caring for your hair

Emelda Njiki: Yes in winter I am shampooing, deep conditioning and style

NettaRain: So use heavier hair oils during the winter months, just double checking?

Simone: Same all seasons heavy oils deep conditioner every wash day

LuvanMusiq: Thank you as always! How do I find a trichologist . A legit one. Not a self-proclaimed individual who has watched a few YT videos

DreamloverMimi: Completely knew to natural hair and scalp care. But i have been maling home grown Aloe vera juice ( from my garden) mixing with Vinegar and mostly water and glycerin as a scalp hydrator . Also do Witch Hazel and Vinegar Scalp rinses weekly. Shea butter to seal my scalp and hair hydration. Been trying to understand why my scalp was flaky and your videos are a diamond in the rough! Thank u !

DivaDlux121: Hi Tonya, love your channel. Quick question about maintaining my wash and go. I just washed, added TGIN Green Tea leave and then used Uncle Funkys Curly Magic as a styler. Finished at 7am. It is now 9:51pm and guess what? My roots are still super wet. BUT, mid shaft downward is dry. Why is this happening? I don’t want to sleep with wet hair, so I’m gonna blow dry my roots a little. I feel like I can’t enjoy the wash and go curls cause my hair is always wet. Any suggestions?? I’m new to this type of styling as well. Thinking to go back to blow drying and flat ironing because this isn’t working. Please, anyone, help. Thx and have a very Happy Holiday!

renda terry: I have LOC'D MY HAIR CAN WE PLEASE TALK ABOUT PRODUCTS THAT WORK BEST P.S NEVER YELLING I ALWAYS USE CAPS

Kathy Yearby: In the winter month's I do more steaming.

S Pie: I make sure I wear a hat and tuck in my ends when I go out into the cold air

Timetrae: I try to do more hot I’ll treatments in the winter. I feel like they hep combat the winter dryness.

Brenda Geater: Happy Holidays ❣️

Weird Myst: You really look like the main character from Prime Video's movie: "Chocolate Kiss." I really took note of both of your beauty when I first saw you, I just realized why- you're pretty

Andre C: More creme moisture and consistent use of satin and silk scarfs

Njabulo Themba: Thanks love

Norma Smith: Hi I use a protective style, I want to do something else with my hair but I am going to wait until summer. I will just think about it for now. I love your video!

Failures Can Be Blessings 2: Thank you for the video. Merry Christmas!
