Just A Trim Haircut Tutorial - How To Ask For A Trim - Thesalonguy

#thesalonguy #hairtutorial #justatrim

Here I demonstrate a haircut tutorial on how to get just a trim. Many times clients ask for a light trim and they end up getting too much cut off by the stylist or barber. The key is to have good communication and to just skim off the dead ends which is usually less than 1/4 of an inch.

Hey YouTube Stephen, a salon guy here and in today's video I have Daniel back and everybody loves Daniel. They love you Daniel. Like I mean they don't like me. They just want to see. You know it's ridiculous, but anyway, what I'm gon na be doing today in this video is something that a lot of people ask me about, and it's how to get a trim. So a lot of times when you might go to the barber, your stylist and you say: oh I'll, just trim it out. I'M trying to grow it out a little bit just a little trim and you get like completely butchered like if this was like a horror movie. How many of you experienced that? Let me know in the comments: if that's this has happened to you, that's why I'm making this video, so I want to show you Daniels, hair right now and he's actually really likes the length right now, and this is the perfect scenario, for you know just a Trim - and I wanted to show you guys my method of what I would do and kind of what to say to your stylist or your barber to how to get this. So the first thing I would suggest really is you know clean up around the ears. You know you can also say just clean it up. Sometimes that's another phrase that people like to say just clean it up. You know that means it's almost just like just a trim so really just shaping around the ears down into the nape area right through here. Cleaning that up and a lot of it is just really skimming the dead ends and we'll show this as we. We started cutting everything, but really it's just shaping it right. It'S shaping it to grow out into the shape that the client wants. Not what you want is the stylist with a barber, it's what they want as a client and really it's just cleaning up the dead ends and really skimming it. So when someone says I want to trim, it's not like, you know an inch two inches. It'S literally just a very very tips here were the dead ends, or so I'm gon na get Daniels, hair prepped to start cutting, we're gon na actually go through it and then we'll see what he says. He might just kill me. If I cut too much all right, so I'm ready to go, let's get started alright, so we're ready to start, and the first thing I'm usually gon na do is start right in the nape area and I'm just going to trim up the hair right in his Neck and just establish a nice perimeter of the shape, you know, and sometimes this alone kind of sets the whole standard for the whole haircut of you know how it's going to look and it's it's it's the roadmap, it's starting off for the desired result. You want now one is I'm literally just gon na kind of go through this, and the first thing I like to do what I'm doing just trims is pull out the hair and hold it into my hand to see where the dead ends are right. So right there, I just literally skim those little ends right into here and what that did. Is it cleaned up the entire section without going super super short, so this is really really imperative. You know if you're a if you're a client, you know expressing this to your stylist to your barber, where, if they start snipping and cutting - and they see like that much hair on the floor or like more than you're, expecting you probably need to stop them right Away and say: well, that's that's like a lot. I can take a lot less off, just cut the dead ends, so you really wan na make sure that you're going to somebody who understands that concept and not just going into someone who's gon na take ten minutes and just hack, your hair. You got to really make sure that you know the person doing this really understands what a true trim is. So what we're gon na do now is we're gon na just kind of speed up throughout the whole thing, and I'm just gon na go throughout the entire head. Pull everything straight out and just really cut the dead ends, shape it up around the ear and then we'll see how it looks as we get towards the top area, all right, everyone, so we're just finishing up the haircut here and I want to do some last Steps here on camera with you guys, live, and what I'm doing now is I'm just going over with my thinning shears, and this also, it was really really helpful for someone if they you know, even if they want just a trim, because what this is doing, its Removing some of that weight and a lot of times the client, their hair will get very, very heavy, and this is a great way for them to kind of extend their haircuts. And it's simply by just going through the hair, with sitting shears and just kind of trimming up the ends alright, and what that's gon na do is that's gon na help remove a lot of them, oh so, as they are kind of growing their hair out. You know it's not gon na, be so heavy and thick in certain areas and again it's just lightly trimming it. So, as you can see, what I've done in through this area is really just carved around the ear or made it nice and clean and the same thing throughout the nape area and just extending this shape in through here. It really looks like the same haircut like not much has changed, but it looks a lot cleaner and not need us a lot meaner, so we can actually grow this out without any problems, and it's still gon na look really really good over time. So I'm just gon na finish up on this side right into here with the thinning shears and it's just a scissor over comb method where, wherever the hair feels heavy, that's where you just kind of hit it with this year's and it's a great technique to have This grat really well, and here we have Daniels finished result. I was gon na turn the camera around a little bit this way. So, as you could see nice and shaped right into here, we still have a lot length that he wants cuz. He wants to grow his hair a bit longer. The front here is down just past the bridge of nose right into here, so that allows him to still kind of slick it back, but it looks very, very neat and then the same thing on this side. Really just shaped it up around the ears, give it a really really nice blend so that, as this grows out its really going to look good, and you want to make sure you're going to someone's gon na take their time throughout the entire process. To really really give you a good trim and not hack off your hair, well guys, thank you so much for watching, don't forget to Like comment and subscribe and click the bell so you're notified when I post videos three times a week. So thank you guys. So much for watching and I'll see you next time for videos.

sweetniblets1516: When the barber is bald but gives a nice haircut. "I guide others to a treasure that I cannot posses"

Oscar Perea-Sandoval: Once I asked for a trim... ended up looking like the last air bender

Triarii: I'm scared to go for a trim, they always ruin my hair.

Bryan Abalos: Me: "just trim it, a couple of inch." Barber: "i got you" *starts razoring my hair*

Travis Kraft: I need a trim myself.

Canadian Turtle: From the bottom of my heart, I can safely say that most haircuts I've had in my life had disappointing outcomes. I had one just 3 days ago. All I wanted was as trim, that's it. Nothing more, nothing less. She ended up giving me a mushroom cut

Mabz • Rahman: "Not what you want as a stylist or barber but what the client wants" I wish barbers would understand that because I've been to a lot of barbers who just wouldn't listen instead they'd be like oh it's supposed to be like this or I have a degree in haircutting

Depressed frog: I said cut a little instead he left a little

Ramiro Rincon: I'm about to make my barber watch this video with me before he cuts my hair

Dpao: Amazing, maintained the same cut but a whole lot cleaner and healthier looking with barely any length taken off

Maria Barten: Thank you Salon Guy! Your video was concise and thorough. I just cut my boyfriend's hair for the first time during quarantine yesterday. I must say I'm proud of how great it looks, and I could not have done it without your guidance! He's happy and I sure am too:)

TrueJEM: Thank you for making this video! I was growing out my hair the way I wanted but it got too messy so I wanted a trim, but I needed up having butchered my hair

toes: what a perfect video that I never thought about but TOTALLY needed, my trims always go wrong!

Bella Viera: This is amazing. I just got a trim in August. They just took the dead ends off, thanks for the video! The results were amazing.

Sean M: Wow I really needed this. Been hesitant to go to a barber recently cos I wanted to grow my hair out a bit, but they always take too much off. Thanks Steven!

椎名リリアン: Thank you, your video help me a lot! because of lackdown and in community quarantine right now, I tried to trim my husband's hair.. not so bad for a first time hair trimmer (also using a regular scissors he buy on grocery store) haha! I just followed your instructions.

Ladybug1225 Ronnie47: I've just found your videos and I was very impressed. I tried the short layered haircut and I love it!

chipz / AHMNi: Asked my barber for a trim once. Havent been to a barber since then

Strapping Young Ladam: I like the videos with Daniel because my hair type is near identical to his so if something you do works on him I know I can at least try it. Also just got my first bottle of shadow in the mail yesterday and it is definitely the best styling product I've ever used in my life.

LeannHellFilms: I am so thankful to have stumbled upon this video !!! I learned a lot of tips and insight for trims and this type of haircut!

Sarah: I like to have my hair long, and one time I asked for just a trim and they cut my hair so short love your explanation!

BYB: Exactly what I needed. I always find my hair shorter when I ask for a trim.

Toby Mcchoir: This is actually brilliant. I, somewhat, find myself hard to explain to my barber as they sometimes went barbarically cut my hair.

John Gerard Ó Gríobhtha: I see this is the problem as you would know in the salons. Many people come in and they want trims but they don’t wanna pay full price and I think that’s where the disconnect happens. I’m very clear with my clients I do cleanups it literally takes less then 15 minutes. Many hairstylist do more than a trim because they feel like they have to show they’re doing a haircut. I’m very communicative with my clients and I recognize we’re growing their hair out and that’s how I approach it

JonX Fc: “Just a trim” *Lady Cuts off 2 whole inches and then tries to explain to you how good it looks*

rydze: There isn’t a single barber in Sydney who understands that I want a trim when I tell them “please just a small trim, I’m trying to grow it out but I need it to look a bit neater around the sides, ears, and back.” They ended up giving me a 1 cut. Bruh.

LøveMeAgain: I was too scared to get a haircut because every time I go they never cut it how I like and this is exactly what I needed, thank you sooo much

Aron Castilo: Thanks so much!!! I loved that style!! Now I want to know how to do that haircut please!!!!! Love the shape in the front area

Michael Mundie: Thank u sooooo much for this video... I use my dads barber and I love to go there but he always cuts too much off. I’ll use this next time I go!

Matt Matt: I literally want the same haircut, I’m trying to grow it out for over a year, but nearly every barber cuts one side of my top hair way to short. I don’t understand what’s so hard about: leave the length as it is ......

Xin Montemayor: We're in quarantine and my son's hair is kinda long now. I'm gonna cut his hair by following your steps. Err .. I hope I'll get it right. Thank you in advance !

Jack Luong: I'm afraid even if I say all of these things to my barber, he would still slaughter my hair.

Santhosh Kumar: I get scared to go for an haircut every time because most of the barbers do not listens to me. I would like to go to a barber like you. You are one of the best!!

danpaul: This is literally the hairstyle I ask for but my barbers never know get it right

Nabranes TwistyPuzzler: 0:26 Oh yeah. I’ve had that 4 times. The 1st role was December 2018, and I liked how it looked that it was starting to get longer (3.5-4in on the top, and not as long on the back and sides), and when I went to the barbershop, I didn’t want him to trim much or barely anything at all, but he cut it to only 2.5-2.75in and made a U in the back instead of a V, and I wanted a V. Then in February 2019, it was a little longer on the top, so about 3.25in, and he did do the V in the back, but it was still too short, plus he shaved my neck hairs without even saying anything at all, and I just felt the clippers or razor there. Then I said “I’M NEVER GETTING A HAIRCUT AGAIN!!” I did go to the hair salon thrice, but only twice were much. At the end of June, I went there, and she cut it from 5.5in on all of the top to 5in except the bangs to only 4in, and then progressing back that inch until it was 5. The same thing happened at the end of August. It was 5.5 & 6.5 at November’s end, but I started biting it for 2-3 months, and also some picking at in February, so it was 7.75-8in the back of the top, 5.75-6in at the bangs’ front as I finally stopped biting it, and a slow progression to the back in increasing lengths. Then I went back and explained that I didn’t want it shorter except maybe enough in the top’s back to even it out. So, she did a dusting all around especially the front because of the breakage and maybe very slightly everywhere else just in general (even the front grew back in 2 weeks), but the middle and back of the top were cut to 6.5in because I was too scared to cut more, but now it’s quarantine (3/28 btw), and I can’t get the back of the top cut another inch shorter, but at least it’s just a minor thing. I wouldn’t want to try myself because it would definitely be uneven and messed up.

irvuun: I once asked for a trim. The Barber gave me an undercut instead, goddamn.

Xin Montemayor: We're in quarantine and my son's hair is kinda long now. I'm gonna cut his hair by following your steps. Err .. I hope I'll get it right. Thank you in advance !

Corphini: My last haircut was a mess i said 3/4 inch of they took off 2 inches and had me upset for weeks. Finally it grew to just how I like it so the worst is finally over

The Life Of Isaac Joel: It happens to my husband all the time, now we’re learning trimming home

Stoni Gee: Me: "Just a trim bro!!" Barber: *Puts lawnmower to my head*

zergio kruz: Thank you for this video (: Now I could go to the Barber or Salon with confidence.

N L: Wish I could get a free and perfect haircut just like Daniel's

Cameron Kay: Me: just a little trim Barber: *cuts of my entire head

kokomiiixx: Looking for the right barber who understands what kind of cut you want is the hardest

INTROVERT: how tf is his hair so perfect

andygomez416: Excellent, just what I needed to know

LAKingsfanrn: The reason I’ve been growing out my hair is cause every time I go in for a trim they give me an undercut faux hawk.

Kerv Rocete: I wish all barbers think like you on how 'TRIM' should really be done.

Sexc Chungus: He guides other’s to a treasure he cannot possess

Afeefa N: learning this to try it out on my dad during quarantine lol

BlueSpace Viewer3849: Wow I really thought I was the only one with an issue of never wanting to go back to the barber shop for a trim after they ruined my hair for not listening, I noticed that they keep cutting more of my hair. They need to be fired.

Yay Yo: It has happened to me, probably why I don't like getting cuts lol

Rishu Sagar: That's exactly what I was looking for Thanks!!!!

anonymous anonymous: Always happened everytime i go out of saloon. The best hair I got is the moment I sat in front of the mirror before they cut

Alan Carlos: bro i wish this guy was my barber, he actually understands

Alan Carlos: bro i wish this guy was my barber, he actually understands

My Beloved Kiki: im literally watching this because i need to learn how to trim a man's hair during the quarantine period and im laughing my heart out reading the comment section . need to trim my brother's hair because he's starting to look like an Orang Utan .

the: This has happened to me way to often. I say just a trim then he cuts of like half an inch of my hair and the bs doesnt end there, for some reason they go for those same strands of hair multiple times cutting of like a cm everytime.

ian: it’s been almost 2 months since my last haircut. told the barber nothing off the top and he took it down to an inch long

Vic: Had been growing my hair for months. I went in about two week ago and my usual wasn’t there so I took a chance on the guy who was there. Worst mistake ever. I showed him a photo of myself with long hair and he cut it so bad, short, and uneven. A two year old with play scissors would’ve done better.

Simon Jackson: I've always had a lot of fear of going to another salon because I said the same exact thing at a salon I never go to and she shaved my head to a buzz cut

Jeff Tamayo Pabinguit: The problem with barbers who does my haircut or maybe some if not most barbers, is that they tend to use razors to speed-up the job. Probably for reasons that using only hair scissors is time-consuming and exhausting plus commission-based barbers are mostly the ones who rush their jobs to accommodate more customers which on my experience ends up ruining my desired outcome.

Hawk: Last time I asked for a trim my hair went from 8 inches long to the Agent 47 look.

Wut: Hey man thanks But I have a problem here I have 3.5 inch on top and at sides I made it mid low fade If I start growing my hair will it be good looking or I should let it all same length? Hopefully u reply cuz I’m really into changing my hair

tang yuan: I have the same hairstyle as Daniel right now haha. Definitely gonna get a trim soon

dodgemaruader: This was beyond helpful.

Mudit Dhakar: Got butchered like 5min back ,and now I'm seeing this , great, lessons then learning

Tom Tyrone Beiron Tay: Yup, because hair doesn't grow evenly at the same rate, 'trim' should just be about restoring the desired 'shape' of the original style or cut. Best to keep to the same barber (I wrote BBQ)! Damn, that fringe on Daniel looks... gooooddd!

Asmr Addict: Who else in quarantine trying to get a trim lol

Alexander Guerrero: That happen to me in 6th grade and the hair cutter practically shave my entire head off! And I was DEVASTATED OMG

varethika: This whole thing with the trim has been like a joke throughout, literally like trolling.. never ever ever not even once I honestly can recall asking for a lil trim and getting it! Should be named the Barber syndrome or something, even when i had long hair a "trim" would most of the times reveal my neck!

Zetsuke4: Anyone else just close their eyes throughout their whole cut?

Gian Fajardo: Man. That was dope. Just gotta show this to my barber.

SR.A: Honestly I don’t even know what kind of hair cut I want. My hair is all over the place. When I cut it I like it short but then I just let it grow and then I like it long/medium length. I don’t know what is better or what I like more.

yuuka: Me : Just need a trim man Barber: sure *takes out razor

Fritz: How I wish I can get a haircut from you.

Lemon Chaos: I had 7 inch long hair, and asked for a trim. I ended up having to get waves

Aj Duo: I'm here because I want to give my grandma a haircut this quarantine.. it's getting too long wish me luck

Robin L: Asks for a trim goes home with almost shaved hair.

Danny Joseph: Imma show this video to my barber before getting a trim next time just in case.

Jagenator: I’m going for a haircut tomorrow it’s medium length and as you said I only really want around the back of head and ears cleaned up and an inch or so off the top. I’ll keep you updated tomorrow night

Sonny Scott: Just cut hair for the first time and it was so pretty good ngl

Kupo: Gonna show this first to the barber before have him work on my hair...

T R A S H: I asked for a trim once and the barber gave me an undercut.

Azri Syarifuddin: I love this comment section, I kinda related to their experience. I once ask the barber for a trim but end up like a bowl

NONAME: You're really a good stylist in my opinion

Andrew: I hate going to get trims because I end up not getting to grow my hair the way I want it :/

Suship Best Deck: His starting haircut is what I want lol Edit: just watched the video and now I want the end haircut

Jam: Barber: It looks great right Me: Yeah its fantastic 2 hours later: Questions the existence of life

Jun Dave Agbuya: Im here because i freakin need this :< I just got my haircut done yesterday and now I regret it

Jaz Zu: let the barbers see this so they will know how to trim because I always end up a military after a trim.

Blizzavision: Thanks for the advice, now I won't have death threats anymore by my clients.

Fritz Concepcion: My dream haircut! But salon/barber's don't know how to trim/cut like that :(

HR!T: It happens to me everytime

Patty Nunez: Cutting my boyfriend’s hair tonight. This really helped!

Jessie Lynn: The one and ONLY time I got my hair *TRIMEMED* by a hairdresser. . .urgh just mentioning it makes my blood boil. So my hair was around 3-3 1/2ft long and I SPECIFICALLY told the hairdresser can you ONLY trim an inch or half inch “okay, just a trim noooo problem sweetie.” She got finished and she cut off like over a foot, I almost b*tch slapped her, I was so mad. Ever since then I’m the ONLY one who ever touches my hair.

Rorschach X: happens to me everytime

FAROUK SADEK: Happened to me every single time

Will: "Clean it up" "Make it tidy" are my go tos

Azim Jamal: Once I asked for a trim to get a steve roger’s infinity wars haircut but it ends up with undercut slick back. Need around 6months to grow that hair again
