Men'S Haircut: How To Do A Fade With A Long Top

-1:04 MC starts by using a 1 1/2 metal guard on his Oster clippers.

-2:34 He changes to a 00000 metal guard on his Oster clippers.

-4:28 Next, he uses a 1 plastic guard to begin fading.

-5:12 He moves to a 1/2 plastic guard.

-6:17 MC removes the plastic guard and uses an open blade to further blend the line. He adjusts the lever when necessary.

-8:17 Watch a sculpting technique done with a razor. This will remove bulk to blend the sides and back of the hairstyle into the fade.

-10:05 He begins to incorporate the top of the hairstyle into the sides and the back using the same razor technique. This will continue to remove bulk and create texture in the hair.

-11:12 He uses scissors over comb to further blend the sides and back into the fade.

-12:00 Watch a quick blow dry.

Enjoy!!

And today we are here with the award-winning MZ barber, hey everyone. This is MC barber in this video. I am doing fade, starting from 6 zeroes to undercut and comb-over. So here my model has a long top we're going to section his hair first and to hold into a horseshoe shape. This was actually one of my first videos that I shot like maybe a year and a half ago, and I just haven't done anything with it. So I decided to post it. So first thing we did here is sectioning is here and as usually in my system, MC barber system that I developed over the years use heavy-duty clippers, 1 and 1/2 is my base for all my fate. I use 1 and 1/2 to remove the bulk and create a foundation for my whole haircut and for my faith I make sure we once I'm removing the bulk of the hair. I also create a desired shape. I, which is preferably square, shape or men's haircuts. I keep that in mind that this with this technique, I do not follow the shape of the head. I do some free handing as my Clippers going towards the top. It is important that you work with your with your Clippers that when once you are getting towards the top of the crown that you do not follow the shape of the head and you kind of fan the hair towards the top, so you kind of blend it As you can see, I'm not leaving very heavy line when I'm taking my Clippers away from you said brother, I kind of try to blend as much as I can. What that does that actually limits? My or minimizes excuse me that actually minimizes my work when it comes to transition from the from the sides in the back to the top my work, there is very minimal, with whether I use a razor or I use scissors to connect the top of the back. Really, as you can see there, the lines are not heavy whatsoever. That is a key for a good blend and for a fast blend or literally, you can connect the sides and the back to the top in minutes with a high quality. Now I'm using I'm using six years to start a spade fades in the barber shop today are probably, I would say, easy: 70 % of our cuts. Almost everybody wants one or another fee, whether it's a medium low or high fade. One thing that I like today versus few years ago today, we have more long tops leaving the head longer on the table, whether is for pushback man's bond comb-over or for hawks. We do have more long hair on the top line with these few years ago, which is actually good, but this definitely separates a barber stylists from just average barbers. You have to learn how to use scissors and straightedge razor to be to separate yourself from the rest of the the barbers see in my area. I did myself from the rest of the barbers by simply doing things that majority of the barbers don't do, which is scissor work, the razor work and styling and blow-drying my clients really have no options. Besides me, in my area, which there is on the street, where I was until two years ago, there was 50 barber shops, but there is literally - and I mean literally almost 50 barber shops. It sounds like I'm exaggerating but barber shop on every corner on one block. There was five barber shops, but I had no competition simply because I was doing what everybody else is not doing. I was doing fade like them, but I was also doing scissor work, razor work and styling, which is the key to success. If you really want to set your own prices, if you want to separate yourself from everybody else, you have to learn how to use scissors straightedge razor blow drying and styling, and I tell you for my personal experience from the competitions that I did all over. The United States - and I know almost every barber shop in my area that people do not know how to use scissors. I don't want to talk about straightedge razor, that's almost unexist in among the new barbers and blow drying and styling I mean I even watch educators. People that teach on the stage - some of them have absolutely no clue how to blow-dry elements here. Some of them even use a blow dryer without air concentrator, which just blows here everywhere. So it is important that you learn all these things. If you want to be successful borrower, the reason no reason we should not elevate ourselves, the next level we should be respected because we do deserve respect. We are not just the barber, we are professionals, people drive or an hours to get a haircut for me. Oh then, I demand respect for my clients just the way we respect our doctors. When we go see them, they have to respect us when they come to see us. You know people that the haircuts are so important for people that I have plants and say I feel so good for our next three days. Once I get a haircut it just it just makes me feel good. I feel good. So if you feel good for three days after you get a haircut for me, why do you think you should just pay 15 bucks for my service? Why not more you know if the way you look makes you feel better? Why don't you think I deserve more than 15 bucks? You know, so we have to elevate ourselves to the next level where we can get paid where we deserve and offer serve, offer services that other people cannot. So my goal is to now, after all the years and my experience as a master barber, originally hairstylist, my goal is actually to train others to do exactly what I do, which will bring them, bring them success and respect in the in the salons and a barber Shops so I do teach classes on men's, hair, styling from razor work, clipper work and most difficult category in my mind and my in my opinion, blow drying and styling. So here I did I'm doing my faith started from six zeros and faded it to one and a half. Now I'm connecting my faith to towards the stop, I'm using my straightedge razor with no guard and I'm doing at the heat that is called sculpting and I'm working on breaking that line down and removing the weight. This technique is beautiful or you can remove the weight. You can remove the link or you can just ending here - depends on the angle of your razor and amount of pressure. You apply to the hair, so this is usually I do this first then I'll go back with the scissors and I'll do scissor over comb kind of, do you know or remove any hair, that kind of sticks out or somewhere else who is behind so in general, I like to divide hair into a head, the head of our client into three zones or three areas. You have a first zone, which is a nape area and your sideburns area that would be your zone one. You will have a zone two that goes from the widest part of the head to the to where my line is created on the top right there, where I'm starting to blend from a horseshoe shape. So that would be your zone two and then your zone. Three. Would be the top or area three so now I'm connecting I'm working on my zone two there as you can see I've blended the hair, with my straight edge, razor and I'll top, I'm going to remove some link, I'm going to keep most of it and I'm Going to start from the back, as you can see, I'm going to be taking a quarter of an inch sections, maybe to a half an inch sections and I'm going to kind of scope them into the back. And I'm going to pull every section in this manner. That way, that here will slightly stay long in each section of the hair will stay longer. I will create a lot of texture and I will also remove the length as well on the end. You can style this hair in different ways. I will just eyelet more into a comb-over, but you can also just have it as a push back the way. I'M cutting it right now with lot of texture or with this all slick, or you can raise it up into a pompadour as you would like, but the way I will kind of make it almost as a smooth comb-over, with an undercut on both sides once the Top is done, I'm going to go back now and have a dual scissor over comb. Make sure there is nice and refined clean as you cannotice, I'm only using moving my tongue. This is something I stress a lot when I teach scissor our classes. Really, if you want to become a master with your scissors, you have to learn your foundations and you have to stick by them. If you start cutting corners, yes, you will become a good barber. You will become a very good style, it's no doubt, but you will never reach your full potential just like in everything else. You have to respect the rules of the you know. The trade of the end of the tools gives me you have to respect the rules of the tools how to properly execute that mix. It makes huge difference. There is your finish as a result. Thank you for watching. Please don't forget to subscribe MC barber comments by our side.

Leecee Smith: You make it look so easy! Amazing work, I'm a big fan of all your vids

Bonnie Howell: Thank you for such an informative video and sharing your techniques. I've been professionally barbering since I was 18, but left the field a few years ago. So, I feel a little rusty and do not possess the confidence I once had..Sharing your techniques in this tutorial really helped me. You're a true artist and your passion shows through your work. Barbering is a every underrated art that deserves more attention based on skills and practice needed to master these cuts.

Aj C: Just did this myself , looks great . Thank you !

Cassandra McAllister: Yes sir, you definitely deserve more than $15 for a haircut. You definitely are a professional, and thank you for the tutorial! This cut looks amazing, and I appreciate the tutorial

Mitzy Ilene: Never seen the sculpting technique. Looks like it worked great. Quick, seemingly simple, and very effective. I’m a cosmetology student so I only have a razor with a guard, but I plan on giving this a technique a try

srsigmon25: your technique is a lost art to most barbers. great skill and a great style of cutting.

Jay The Barber: Beautiful blend. Great technique. Very nice.

Michael Lewis: I enjoyed the knowledge you shared as much as the tutorial. Thank You

Louis Delillo: Thanks for the video! Im fresh out of barber school but still feel I have some learning to do. These videos help!

IronBrutesRage: Its 2019 and I'm watching this. I'm doing my state board testing and even in college most of us barbers learned everything. To us most haircuts we do we use shears and the razor and clippers all in one...around where I live along with a city a few hours away most barbers are great with the "lost art" that I dont really think its lost or maybe it just came back again. I dont know.

Haley K: I feel as though this is more of a video for actual barbers/cosmetologists to watch than people “trying to cut their mans hair at home” so I appreciate all the “what will make you stand out from others” comments... helpful for me as a cosmetologist... there are many other YouTube videos for at home men’s hair beginner tutorials for the people saying he’s just gloating. I appreciate educators helping me and telling me what will make me stand out

D. O.: Master skills! I watched many of your videos and learned a lot. Thank you MC ! .Greetings from the Netherlands.

Cosmo Dawn: You're absolutely right. I'm a cosmetologist and I can't tell you how many men's haircuts I've had to fix because although they faded the sides and back good they butchered the top. I had to deal with some bad haircuts on top and at times cut off a lot of the length to fix the bad cut. So I have a lot of men clients who come to me for to cut the top and styling. I can fade too but some want the other services with a straight razor that I'm not legally allowed to do as a cosmetologist so they will get that part done at the barber but tell them not to touch the top and I'll do the top for them and fade just the top into the sides and back.

Barber Journey: right on the point thanks for this great content

Inna Zhurav: Хорошо так объясняет, доступно и понятно, а главное очень подробно. Лайк.

William Harris: finally someone made an easy fade tutorial

TheMrsmartiekid: Do you feel like sectioning the top from the sides is something i should take into all my haircuts? i've tried it a few times and its helped me so much but im not sure if it can be used for every type of haircut?

Jay Diaz: Hey brother love what you do it's amazing! One suggestion though, try adding some music softly playing in the background... it will help fill in the empty gaps when you speak.

Frico1964: I agree with you sir... Today's young barbers in my area here in San Antonio Tx, do not know how to do scissor cuts and style hair.

Michael Villanueva: do you have a video showing how to connect the fade to the top without the razor technique but clipper or shear work instead?

Bobbi Light: Great video! Thank you

james gordon: This is what i love about italians, they put so much passion for what they do, awesome work men, keep it up!

viggo von scheliha: What clippers do you use in the beginning of each of your cuts to create the base??

Sandrakathy Do: Would you please do a curly hair with low fading....? Thank you Master.

Mary Poppins-Dèm-Pills: Where is this guy from ? Hes amazing! I want to see him teach me live .. I'm blown away !!

Bonnie Howell: I have a question on your preference on how to blend out lines in fades. It seems that you prefer to start with a shortest guard/blade and then go back in with a longer guard to blend out the line. I was initially tought to fade by using the technique of starting with a longer guard first and go in with a shorter guard to blend out the line .Is it all about preference or do you feel you get a more precise and seamless fade by first working with a shorter blade than blending the line out with a longer guard? I would appreciate your thoughts since I always have received mixed advice/techniques on how to fade properly.

Stef: He’s not even explaining anything he’s just ranting and saying he’s better than other barbers. Would have been a great video

Jay: What would you need to do if you wanted your sides as long as the top again

Shelby Bearr: Helped me a lot thank u

Huyền Trịnh: i love it....perfect

Fade Nation: He’s not bragging, he’s telling the truth! There’s ALOT of “Barbershop’s” and only a few real barbers....

Melissa Birch: I'm going to cut someone's hair Sunday and I hope I can do something like this. Great job and technique... and the model is pretty damn handsome.

Pottery Mania: Awesome cut and model!

Bill Smith: Your so good let me know if you visit the UK, every cut I have watched is perfect.

Candice Vigil: Which oster clippers are you using? I’m looking to up my fade knowledge and I need better tools.

William Harris: keep up the good work MC Barber

nina ca: man i like your works and your words..

Jean Martinez: what brand of clippers were you using to fade?

Binary-Technique: Thanks I need this

Darielo Barberino: Hey MC Barber I really like your videos and haircuts but you should really even out the volume of your intro and voice :D God bless you

Jean Martinez: what brand of cordless clipper are you using?

Alam Jalil: mc barber. can you please please make a video on how to use the straight razor to blend hair and discuss and show what angles take what length of hair off please

ANASTASIOS PAGKALIDIS: hello mc.Can you make a video haircut on thick hair?Happy new year

Victor Scott: Nice job

Dane Logan: looks great

AZAUTOMAN NATIVE: Is it me or does this barber push the clients head around excessively and roughly…..

Selim Nazar: Watching this was very satisfying. Like scratching lottery tickets.

makewayfornoddy: People who get respect dont ask for respect , they show that they can be respected !!!

Ashley Nichole: I just wanna learn how to cut my mans hair at home lol idc about your rant next time try to include educational information that we are watching for

Enyewu Nega: Wish i could afford to come learn from you

tojema: Ok and for the back it's very important..... Aaaaaand we will be filming how the back is cut from the front. Showing you nothing.

Thomas Dale: Preechist barber ever! Wow

Beau Baugues: So went to cut my hair today because I have interview tomorrow and I am broke so went cheap. the barber I went to did not fade out but instead went with the curvature of my head and I do not like it at all, I stopped her so that she does no more damage. I want to cut the long lengths on top shorter, but myself. How do I go about fading my disconnected haircut with #2 to temple into a blended or faded cut. I have about 4” on top. It looks not so good, horrible in fact.

Paul Allen: Smooth fade

Monty Iuliano: Do you prefer scissors over comb then clipper over comb? Whats your opinion.

nina ca: the razor you smooth the line is thee same razor use for a beard lineup ?

omarwanderlust: I like it

Ingrid Kincaid: Anyone know what kind of scissors he's using?

D1ma13: very cool! please tell us which model clipper wahl?

Jarod Haws: Starts explaining then just loses track and rants

R & B XL: I LOVE ALL YOUR VIDEO YOU ARE THE BEST BARBER!!!!!

Umar FarøøQue Mr_Awesome: MASHALLAH Amezing_Cutting

Kelly Fitz: Does anybody else cut their husband hair? Do they try to tell you how to do it from the chair? First let me say I am in no way a hairdresser. I just pretend. My mom taught me a little and I have picked up things along the way. Everything would have been fine. We or I have cut his hair the same way forever, with variations in length of coarse. However this time he decided he wanted a fade with a long top. He showed me pictures of Jonny Depp. Pete even bought a new shaver with various attachments. Let’s just say it is the first time I have made a mistake. The back is really tight! It turned out ok. Although I hate that damn shaver! Also Peter has thin hair with 4 different hair textures. I told him it is not that easy. He said “Well you make it look easy”. Thanks but it’s not! I am going to go have a hard lemonade and maybe a shot or 2 of Tequila. Well he loves it! ~sigh~ He said it looks great. I need a technique to blend the back better or an really nice shaver. There is more of a step than I would like. Otherwise I’m good. If you have suggestions please help!! #iamnotahairdresserijusyplaayoneontv

Ana Quinones: love your work can yo please make a closet up ir a pictutr oficina the Razer

Dani Laird: The reason I don't want to (or can't) pay a barber more than 15 bucks is because I can't afford more than 15 bucks for anything and who wants to pay more than that for a haircut that only lasts 3 days?! I want my hair to look good for months, not days. I have been to every barber and hair dresser in New Jersey and haven't been satisfied with any of them. I have thick wavy (type 2b) hair and they don't know how to cut it at any price. It always looks the same. No matter what style I get it cut, it looks the same. I am now growing my hair on top and fading the bottom myself and it looks better than ever! My mom is a hairdresser so maybe I get it from her along with my music ability.

Aung Min Oo: Very good

Emilio21melo: Maybe you should sell merch! ill buy a comb with a built in razor slot on the comb!!!

Ezzz: Really bad voice over, i was hoping to hear step by step as you cut. Instead i heard you talk about how good you are and how you make people feel good for three days.

Marcos Garcia: Wasted my time. Came her to learn how to cut...ends up talking about himself the whole time smh.

Kathleen Leydig:

Elijah Rivera: You need less ego, more tutorial

Rebecca Botwinis: What razor are you using

Chase Mcmorrow: lot of talk . little “how to” .

Maria Mousseau: Came for a how to not a lecture

Gemma Champion: I watched your video to learn what to do not listen to you talking rubbish about respect !! You didn't even explain what number blade you was using to blend it in. Total waist of time

Alex Ginzo: Too much boasting about himself. Just show the cut and keep it off yourself. A little narcissistic.

Channi lemonhill: Great jimmy neutron haircut

J K: why would you disconnect the beard. thats so dumb

msg 27: In what city are you because I'm in Pennsylvania I would like to take classes

maryiusp: esti roman in toata regula!

Chris S: Liked the explaing part of the video.. but then you acted entitled and acted like $15 was too little for giving hair cuts. So what if you do better than some others? Bottom line is its cheap easy work. Some construction workers make that in an hour lifting heavy objects sweating their balls off. Hair cutting is easy get over it

pelon_beaner: That fade is off doesn’t even look blended

Don Ray Bandz: where are you located ?

Zairal ramba: style hair name ?

STEVE C: The model is yummy.

Robs Custom Creations: There used to be a Barber Shop near "Medina Base (I was HUMINT- HUMAN INTELLIGENCE stationed at the TEXAS CRYPTOLOGIC CENTER, the NSA plant shrouded in SECRECY in which we caught a lot of NEGATIVE PUBLICITY, all thanks to EDWARD SNOWDEN...which I'm writing a book about https://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/NSA-plant-in-San-Antonio-shrouded-in-secrecy-4604109.php " called "Texas Cuts," where all active duty Military Service Members went...and all those Barbers knew how to use the "RAZOR FADE TECHNIQUE" as you are demonstrating. Unfortunately, that was back in the early 2000's...and they no longer exist...What a shame! Moreover, as HUMINT...I "SPECIALIZED in INTERROGATIONS, INFILTRATION & COUNTERINTELLIGENCE (I specialize in finding those that can't be found-everyone leaves breadcrumbs, no matter how OFF THE GRID YOU THIN YOU ARE)." Don't let the "INTERROGATOR" part "fool you," I'm really an "okay guy."

R: You talk too much!

95MEA59: Didnt know zlatan ibrahimovic started to make nice haircuts in L.A

Alif Razali: To much talk sir

casur: Jan Oblak...???

Roberto kioshi: speak so much!! shut up!!

Barber Shop Videos: you have riuned his hair with the razor, looks pooffy instead of sharp

Dennis K: Don't like it
