What'S going on YouTube Steve in a salon got here and in today's video I'm going to be doing a haircut auriol of my take of a modern mullet, I'm ready to go, let's go sort all right! So just want to show you guys what we're starting out with and as you can see here, the mannequin has a lot of hair very, very thick hair. It'S all human hair and, as you can see, we've got some length throughout the bottom in through here. In the nape area, which is what we're going to leave to create the mullet, but what I'm going to do is I'm actually gon na taper, this nice and close in through here and we're going to kind of work. This back create a little bit of maybe a disconnection. It all depends on how I feel, but in the top here, but we're gon na create kind of a nice tapered look into the sides in the back here and then we're going to work it into this length. Creating a modern mullet shape. Alright, so I'm going to start into this area right here and I'm going to start with a number two guard: get rid of a lot of the hair, probably right into this area here and then we're gon na see how it's going to look before. We start to move into the back, so what I'm doing is I'm actually combing the hair straight down like so so that the hair, because it's longer will actually come off a lot easier as compared if I'm just kind of scooping up this way, because the hair Is so much longer? I just feel like this is a much easier way to do it right from the start. So I'm just going to go to about right here right behind the ear area and I'm gon na bring this up a little bit higher and we're just creating our initial shape right here. Okay, I'm gon na start on this one whole side first and then we'll move into the next part. So now I'm gon na flick that lever up and now I'm gon na just raise this up a little bit more this way and we're just now. If you want to start scooping you can. The scooping motion is good to do around this point. If you want to - or you can just go straight up the head this way and then use other guards now what's happening, is if you start to kind of scoop here you know you're not cutting, maybe missing pieces of hair, which was what I'm saying you might Be missing sections all right, so I'm gon na actually press a little more up against the scalp this way to ensure that I'm getting all this hair that needs to come off right here. Here'S number three guard right here: make sure that the it's closed and now we're gon na work up. This way, right here again focusing right on this area right here and let's go that right here, that we or basically right behind the ear, leaving this hair the longest point right down and through here now there's a couple of different things you can do. You could extend this going back in through here and then leave. You know just this part down into here where it's like all buzzed and then, like you know, you've got these hairs that are longer down to the nape area. It all really really depends on the kind of look that you're gon na go for now, since we're doing a modern type of cut. I do want to actually extend this a bit shorter into here and then gradually have it go down into the nape. So I'm actually gon na cut this by hand right into here. This way we can create a much softer blend and make it more of a modern type, looking shape. So now, what we're gon na do is we're going to drop this down. Let'S go with another guard right here, so all this hair is hanging down. As you can see, we have a solid disconnection right in through here, but here's where it depends on what you want to do. You know if you want, you can actually just cut all of this off to right here, to make this kind of more a little more of a spiked. Look you know, or what you can do is we can raise this up even higher to create you know a higher disconnection or a higher part which is going to make it more of like kind of like a mohawk. So what I think I want to do is I want to extend this up a little bit here, just a little bit higher and then we're going to create a solid disconnection throughout this area and then we're gon na repeat the same thing on the other side. Now I'm going to do this same thing on this side, as I did the other side, I just want to start with the number four first just to get rid of all the excess hair, and now I'm going to cut this right around the ear just like On the other side and we're gon na go about right here and we're gon na follow the same pattern and the same technique that we did on the other side. So we're gon na raise the lever right into here. You'Re gon na work our way up. The head shape and then we're going to create a nice little paper right. It'S here now we're gon na go right to the three-guard, make sure we lower the guard lever and now we're just gon na work our way up right into this area and then we're gon na leave it going into the top right here, which was the four And if you want, can you go in with like a 1 or whatever yeah sure you can now is where I'm going to just kind of spray this down and we're going to create the connection working from this into this back area, and then we're also going To work on the top area as well, what I'm gon na do right now, I'm just gon na wet this a little bit to get this out of the way and then we're gon na start to work into our shape down and through here. Now that the hair is wet, we're gon na start right into this area and we're going to try to connect this part, but also at the same time, leaving some length throughout the bottom here. So we're gon na take a nice section right here and, as you can see, I'm gon na go close to the scalp like here, but when I cut this, I'm actually going to extend my hands outwards. This way, cutting short too long to make sure that I can maintain that shape, leaving it much longer, which is what's considered the mullet. Alright, let's just spin this around, so you can see what I have going on here, going shorter to longer. Alright, there's that shape right into here now. What I'm going to do is we're going to cut everything to this one point right here calming it straight out from the head make sure I can see my guide. There'S my guide locked in right here and I'm going to start to cut going shorter to longer all the way. It'S the very very bottom like that, and don't worry about the ends down in through here, because, if needed, we can go back and we can always trim those up. So now that we have our guide established, we can start to pull this a little bit straighter out from each section instead of completely over directing, because you don't want to be super heavy, but we do want to maintain obviously a longer shape, but we don't have To all direct it over back or over direct it all to that one section in the front, as we can see here, we're gon na comb, it straight down we're creating our layers, but we're also creating a longer mullet type shape. Alright. So the key to this really honestly is consistency, making sure you are following the flow of the haircut and that you know what the end result is going to be again. A mullet is an old-school. You know haircut, you don't really see many people, but I've gotten lots of requests for more of a modern approach to it. So that's why I'm doing this video and you know I guess it's who knows. Maybe it's a new trend, so we're gon na see a lot of different variations of it. I mean, I think it looks kind of cool, but I remember this call almost being like the Eurotrash kind of haircut. You know or it's nothing super super new to me. Cuz I've done stuff like this before, but you know, maybe it might be a new trend who knows all right so right now. What we're doing is we're working back into this area right here so we're now. I'M gon na comb, the hair straight out from the head. There'S my guide and there's not much to cut off here, which is good and don't forget to you know you don't want to neglect this area down through here. Okay, this is really very important because obviously this is part of the whole shape right here, so you don't want to miss out on that. So, let's do one more section, let's just kind of cross over into the other side of the haircut and the other side of the head and the back and we'll then create this shape on the other side of the head. So I haven't cut any of this. Yet because we haven't really decided what we're going to do, but since we're starting off on the back here, I think the great thing is is that we could end up taking this much shorter and leaving this a lot longer: okay, creating that really distinct shape. Alright, so here we go we're going to take a diagonal section this way and I'm going to come over the top of this section right to the head and now we're going to cut and angle our fingers going downwards, leaving the length the real key to this Whole thing is hand and body positioning all right, I'm standing right in front of my section and I'm able to manipulate my hands this way, which is going to be ideal for the haircut any time, you're going short to longer. You just want to make sure that you have good hand and body position and that you can see where you're cutting okay really really essential. So what we're gon na do is we're going to kind of skim through this right here and then we'll match it up to the back Center and then we'll cross check to see where we're at all right now, I'm gon na do is I'm actually gon na. Go and cross-check by simply coming all the way across the entire back of the head, going on different directions, different angles, just to make sure that everything is balanced - and I can see in through here that - and I'm still finishing up the back parts right in through Here, but I just want to show you guys that you know the best way to cross-check this. Is there really comb it in the opposite direction? You know, so the hair will jump out. The hair will. Basically, if there's something that's really really off, then you'll be able to tell almost right away - and that's what's good about doing this. I'M gon na finish this up into the back here and then we'll work our way into the top. Now we're ready for the top back of the head, and the best thing that we can do is look at the haircut as a whole and see what is happening right in through here, because this has to transition into the top. So what we could do is we can go again longer down to the bottom and work our way shorter towards the top, but what you first need to do is need to connect. This whole thing right. You need to connect this going into this part right here, and I do that by combing it straight out from the head like so and then working my way upwards. This way - and this to me, is the best way to make any sort of connection with the haircut because you're now working up this way. So let's go a little bit closer up here into the top area and now we're gon na start working towards the top, and this is where the connection now will start to pay off, because we're not gon na have any sort of harsh lines right in through. Here, because we're following the contour of the head now, if I would just take a section like this and cut it straight across without blending, it then we'd have a harsh line right right into the the back of the head. We don't want that. What we do want to do is constantly coal in the hair constantly comb, it constantly making sure we're balanced, pulling it out from all different directions. You know now that we're kind of moving around the head shape we can then kind of see what's going on and that will allow us to create a much better overall kind of length throughout the top here, all right. So now that we're connected on top, what we can do is we can then let's run the head this way. We can then start to work towards the front of the head, all right. So now we're going to cut this straight across and if we want to go a little shorter, the front we can, but this is where we can be really really creative on the top of the head right in through here. We can cut it as short as we want. We can cut it as long as we want. You know this is where the creative freedom comes in cool. Now. Remember. We had this whole piece under here. That was disconnected, so what we can do now is. We can actually just take this whole corner right off right in through here there we go see and now we're completely kind of connected, but also disconnected, and I still want to go back in and kind of we rework some of this. I might end up cutting it even shorter, but let's see so now. What I'm doing again is I'm following the head shape, but I'm also planning this out as I'm cutting. Sometimes the best hair cuts are created on a whim. Okay, it may basically you're like yeah. I don't know I want to go a little bit shorter here. I want to go the longer. You know, I don't know what I want to do or as I'm as you're cutting it, you may see something different see right now. What I'm doing I'm actually connecting this right in through here, whereas before I said I wasn't going to, but now I'm trying to create a little bit of a connection going from shorter to longer, because, as I was cutting this, I said you know what I see This as being like a much shorter type haircut throughout this hop here and since we're creating a modern shape, let's make it modern. Okay, now, on the very front, cut this butt right here and again, I purposely want it to be a little shorter right in the front. So now we're gon na do is we're actually going to go shorter to longer so we're almost creating like a little bit of like a faux hawk. Almost this is like a modern, faux, hawk mullet. There'S a lot a lot going on in this haircut right here. Folks, a lot going on and all I'm doing right now is I'm just combing this hair and making sure it all matches up in the middle, because the important part is that it all works back and connects right in through here. Let'S just turn this this way, so you guys can see what we have going on here. Alright, so here's the point right here that we need to just blend and connect, and there we go so check this out. As far as the profile goes, as you can see, we're working this in going shorter here and then it goes all the way longer this way this is. This is a key what we want. We want this to follow the head shape, okay, which I think looks really cool, and if you want, you can go in towards the front and cut the whole front bit a little bit shorter. You really can have a lot of creative freedom with this. Just honestly - and you can really do do kind of whatever you want, because again, this is this - is we're creating a modern mullet, we're creating a shape. That is something new that you don't normally see: okay, alright! So now what I'm gon na do? What going to do is I'm going to dry this and then we're gon na come back and see how what looks and see if we need any sort of tweaking to the haircut all right. What I'm going to do now is I'm going to go in and do a little more silver comb to just kind of blend. This all a little bit better right in through here, and it's mostly into the corners of the head and then we're gon na go back in and do a little more do some texturizing right into here again. Do not worry if it's not completely blended right into this area again. This is this. Is your chance to make it modern. You know, that's the whole unique thing about this is making it more of a new-school type of mullet. So here, as you can see, we're a lot longer right here on this side as far as the blending and the connection, so I'm just gon na do scissor over comb. The best thing to do honestly is do this when it's dry because dry cutting, you really can refine things. I would never try to do scissor over comb with the hair wet just because you're not gon na, be able to see what's happening. To be honest with you, you're, just not gon na be able to see all the mistakes or any sort of areas that need to be fixed. Cutting hair scissor over comb when it's dry is the best way to go about doing this. So now I feel good right there and what we're gon na do now is take our thinning, shears and now we're just going to kind of lightly remove some of this weight. So it actually doesn't look like it's just some a dead animal. On the back of this mannequins head, so here we have my thinning shears right here and we're just gon na go in and just start to kind of trim away at where we think it's really really heavy and right throughout the top here. Okay, now, what I want to do is I want to do this freehand, because this is where the hair really really is heavy folks, it's like this mannequin head is so thick the hair that you need to do a lot of texturizing. A lot of, I would say, thinning out you know of the bulk, so I'm you also want to be very, very careful if you're, a hairstylist or a barber doing this. Just please be very, very careful if you're, a consumer or a client. I don't suggest trying to do this at home, because you will probably end up hurting yourself or cutting yourself so and also, if you're, a barber or stylist and you're not used to doing this. Freehand like this by grabbing and cutting the hair, just please be very careful all right. You don't want to cut yourself, but, as you can see, this works great for someone really really really thick hair and what I'm doing is I'm kind of cutting from the middle of the hair or the mid shaft to the ends. I'M not going really directly to the scalp, because a lot of the bulk of the hair is throughout here towards the ends, and I much rather have a wispier type. Look. You know throughout the ends, then right in the scalp area, because we're talking about to thin the scalp out right, you don't want to make your scalp look thin or like you're, losing your hair. You want to make the the ends. Look a lot softer and wispier. It'S something to keep in mind when you're and you're adding texture or moving weight to hair. Alright, it's not about making it look thinner at the scalp. It'S about making it look, thinner, a threat, look kind of like the middle of the hair towards the ends, and I think you can see here it's looking much better all right. I think we're good to go so it's gon na finish up a couple. Little bits right into here and now I'm going to find a styling product and we're going to style it up. We'Re gon na go with clutch XL right here, and this was going to be good for this type of hold. So with clutch XL. You really want to work it into your hands to where you almost you feel your hands, getting, really warm and then keep going because then what it does is it really helps absorb into the the hands much better. Alright. So now, as you see we're getting kind of the instant results right in through here and as far as the way you style it just be very, very creative. If you want to go over to the side a little bit totally up to you, but make sure you run it through the hair get some of that texture into here. Okay, create create some penis through out the sides again. This is something we want to make this modern, so don't be afraid to do anything. That'S gon na make it look, really really cool and stand out nice. You can see here. We have a nice angle coming into the sides right in through here and now. Just just create now this is where the artistic side comes out is where you just really have some fun and do something a little bit different. Now, I'm sure I'm gon na get some haters and hero. This haircut looks ridiculous, mama yeah, it's something different, which is what we're trying to create we're trying to create a modern type. Look. So here is the finished result. I hope you guys enjoyed it. Have a look all right YouTube. Thank you guys so much for watching. Don'T forget to Like comment and subscribe and click the bell for notifications.
