90S Style Undercut Haircut (Leonardo Dicaprio Inspired)

Josh wanted a harsh undercut, but Dan talked him into a 90s style undercut haircut that could be worn in a few different ways, including a classic 90s curtains haircut! After a consultation, Leonardo Di Caprio's 90s hairstyle was used as a reference for Josh's style, with a modern 2020/2021 hairstyle twist to bring it up to date.

#MensHaircut #Haircut #90s

Hi guys welcome back to the regal gentleman youtube channel the hunter collective. Today we've got josh in the chair. How are you josh good? Thank you, okay, yeah good, so tell me: what are you thinking what you wan na do? Okay, so i'm thinking i wan na keep motion length on top okay um - maybe let's thin it out quite a bit, because it's quite thick at the moment, but have like maybe grade three back in size undercuts. So when you want the disconnection, what is your idea of the finished look? Do you want it to be like a 90s kind of curtains, where it's kind of sitting heavy on the bowl head kind of thing? Is that the look you're trying to achieve that's exactly sort of thing, i'm looking for yeah? I i personally think we should make it look a bit more 2020.. I know it's been a terrible year, but the new decade of that kind of style - and you want to leave most of the length uh. Yes on top yeah on top okay, i've got sort of reference photos. You know that'd be good yeah because i i don't think you're going to really see the undercuts, because your hair's that long this sort of this sort of thing. So, honestly, i think if i was you more than just doing the shaved look and then hanging it over. If you look at where the length is you could you could slap the undercut but have some sort of blend through here? So more than just doing a three and leaving it as a wedge and then having an angle over, i just feel it's a huge waste. Okay, what you've got you know what i mean: yeah um, not the biggest fans of them um, just because i just don't think there's anything to it. You know it's literally as simple as that. You can go and get your mate to do it like it's literally that simple for eventually the one you showed me there yeah. So if we could do something that was a little bit more, you know take that as a reference and then try and build on it and still have that kind of 90s vibe. But with a bit more of a twist and a bit more of an edge to the haircuts yeah, i think it'd be quite nice, yeah. Okay, to be honest, all right we could still have an undercut, but we could have it more connected through the back and then getting gradually longer through the front, because it would start at 90s vibe. But then you'd be you. You wouldn't be limited to like one haircut. You could actually mix it up a little bit, you know and bring that texture out and things of that as well, which i think will be really nice. So what i thought we could do is take that reference of that kind of real kind of bowl cut as we used to call it um and just make it a bit more modern, and i think the the education we've got now and and the different skill Sets with as barbers we've got now, i think we can take something like that which is fairly basic and make it a bit better. That'S what i think and no disrespect to the picture, the haircut that was done. It'S just that. I think we can do a bit better and i'm a bit more modern and also give give josh a bit of free reign with his hair as well. Maybe china, you know if he wants to bring it over to one side. Let me have a little bit of flick on the side with the curls he's kind of got a little bit of bend he's got coming through. We could kind of emphasize that a bit more. Let'S give him a shampoo and condition, and then we can we'll get started so guys, i've just shampooed and conditioned josh's hair. Now, as i was shampooing it and as i was working through the front, i was picking up to see how long it was. I noticed that the front was shorter than the middle as you can see. So i know this is a common problem when someone wants to leave the top right. So if you had a haircut in the past and say it's, it hasn't been balanced or it's. It'S you've had a different type of style. Maybe you had like a short crop fringe and you've got longer through the apex here, then you want to leave all the length, but when it comes to that difference we will have to take some off the top. All right, but i'll, still maintain as long as much as the hair as i possibly can. So what we'll do when it comes to the top is we'll work from the shortest point and then match it all up. So what i'm gon na do is i'm gon na separate the top to the back inside. So essentially, we want to leave all of the top and we're looking to go for that 90s vibe undercut, but with a slight twist and again, if you're not wearing a bottle like josh was just saying as well, he doesn't normally use stalin brother. So he's asking what products could he use in place of that? So i was just talking about aftercare so like leaving conditioners oils, it's a bit of salt spray. If he wants to go for that bit more kind of drier texture. Look! So all then three products will change slightly. The texture of joshua says so it will give him a different look each time to the recession. But how old are you josh? Do you know what i'm asking 19 19 okay? So, as you can see, when you're working on quite a sort of youthful hairline, you almost have to pick the recession point which is a you know, a great gift. You'Ve got there just to be honest, i wouldn't it's not not a negative there. We go so i've found the horseshoes i'm looking for, so i'm looking to separate the top to the back and sides now. This is where we'll be able to see the true top and the true back in size. That'S why i like to do it so moving on to my osters, i'm going to remove all the pull and all the length just so we can work down two or three, so just working just for the temple pick it up. I'M gon na leave a little bit of length in there, so we can almost start again with a blank cameras when it comes to the number three where's. The inspiration come from. You mentioned movies before yeah. What was what what films have you seen this kind of styling, that's kind of like coming back um? They are classic love stories, especially the uh, the dicaprio kind of 90s haircut, that's yeah, yeah classic! Really it's a nice haircut. It'S way ways when it's got that like when you've got the right hair for it and it falls right and everything's just it can be done so well yeah. It really can i mean when i had it, it was uh pretty awful, because my hair is so straight. It didn't really work, you know yeah, but we still had it because i had to because that was all the material. So you know i have to go for it as well. That kind of dicaprio look, i think, was awesome and i think in my mind i've got more of that kind of look for you. You know that kind of more say less harsh. In a sense you know so what i was thinking we could do is we'll still do the three and we'll still like quite sure so. You'Ve got that similar. Look to what you showed me, but if we get the three lower and add some sort of graduation there as the hair fell, i mean we could say, maybe the ears or something as the hair brushed back and fell. You have a little bit of this length. Be able to come back with it, but you set the harshes of the three. I think that would suit you a lot more and i'll wake a lot more with the circles. So i'm just trying that off there just to see how it kind of falls. So i'm noticing it just will sit back a little bit as well. So the fact that we'll sit back a bit kind of give us a little bit more free reign. I think when it comes to having that kind of disconnection, but some connection in there as well so starting r3 gon na work quite low, with the three probably work it to about here, to give myself a nice bit of room to blend, but also to leave Some length so remember what i want to do is i want to give that kind of shorter finish to the bottom, where the hair can sit on top of. So you still see the sharpness of the clip away, but then they kind of long flow with the top as well low around the ear. So i'm going to work into a nice little taper. I think the whole point of the circle is to have the undercut with this. This kind of number three, so i think with the neckline my take on this, i'm just going to do quite a soft natural taper. It'S nothing too crazy. Obviously, i want to get rid of all the kind of sparse in here to make it strengthen up a bit so still be working on quite a low taper in terms of going down to zero, but that'll just be what we'd do on a very classic haircut. So i'm working onto my two and a half working up and off it's where my three finishes and onto my number two again as you can see, i'm following the way the hair grows to remove the you ball also turn around as well just cap off any Of them hairs so leave her open one and a half guard on just as i'm getting closer to the nape down here so close to the actual perimeter of the hairline, i'm bringing the tape and lower damsel. So my two and a half finished here. My two finished here, my one half and the finish here now. This is more like a one one point: seven five! You want to call it that so basically, the one half guard with the lever down, i'm looking a little bit lower down again, so one that one guard on leave it down. Leave it open just work it up to where our closed one and a half guard finished as well, and the closed guard using the zero it's using the lever closed, i'm going to create a line for symmetry. As you can see, it's still got a bit of hair coming through here. It'S quite sparse here, so i think my line's going to go about there if you'll wake up and off, because that's where i'm still going to be working on the taper like, so i'm going to work up and off again just to start the finish. Let'S turn it around as well: it's wet down covering them a little longer hairs too the way through the lever. Now, just until we get down to our zero remove that line. If i was to tape it to here, can you imagine how long the neck would be? It was down to the collar, whereas we lift it up to here. It'S a lot more fitting with the features as well. Give a blend to this here cut that as well, so the three into the top from the occupant of the back, because i don't want to expose that too much, because it will flatten the crown it's going to work up and off to that point there. Just under the occipital bone just work them right down through my taper, i'm you just work it over as well. Joshua'S got the tendency just kind of quite straight and stick out so i'm using that just to give a bit more seamless finish into the three i'm not going to cut into the hairline at all. For this one again we're keeping it quite loose quite rough. So it's quite a nice finish as well. Just give it a little bit of structure to the hairline and squeeze a little bit clipper over comb just to shorten it down. I'Ve got my uh my biggest scissors. Now i'm going to use this just to look over. My scissor comb, as you see another scissors, cover a wide surface area. I love using these scissors. I'Ve used them for a while. I use that just to make sure everything, nice and symmetric that sits really nicely over that three, so that is proper 90s right right now, yeah. It would be really nice just to connect the backing touch. I want to give it a real, true, 90s feel to it as well. You know what i mean, what we've been talking about, the dicaprio kind of thing, so it was just split a little bit here. It sort of falls back like that as well. You know what i mean, so we want to balance through here, so mainly the main focus is mainly the fringe and just get a bit shorter towards the back, but you essentially just leave it longer to the front and do a nice center part like that right. I'M going to do, i want to bring this down to our acceptable and that's how i want to connect it, so i'm not going to pull it out like so i'm going to put it down right. The way i wanted to finish my point cut into as well that's better. You see that sits nicely there, i'm going to layer it all back. Okay and, as i pick up the section there's the guide, i'm feeling for it, i'm just putting cutting into it all. So we're gon na have quite a jagged finish to this guide and guide through the hair as well and lift it up just with the scissors, i'm just going to slide through a little bit only a few little bits just to break up the kind of chunkiness. The bottom there slightly wider section: now that's what you get now. You should have to load the house. We got that 90s vibe and slide into the ends that give that a bit more straighter finish again now we're going for the 90s vibe, but i still have a bit of a modern touch to it as well. I don't want to be too blocky and super perfect, as it sits down a little bit of texture in there. Do a nice wide section now on a probably my age would be the recession point on josh. Nowhere near the recession pointed you know much just coming off now, section should be anything comes off here, no nothing's coming off there off center. Now the reason why we do off-center - i don't want to cut you in a center part, so i encourage everything to come from the center part. It will fall too heavy in the center part. Okay like so. I want to take a little bit of length off this just to give it a bit more versatility. That'S it's the early 90s now to make it a bit more 2020 or, let's say 20 21, because it hasn't been a good year. This year never referred to 2020 is a good year. I'M gon na add a little bit of razor work in there, so i'm gon na take a section, i'm just working from just from this off the middle, maybe a bit below the below the middle. I'M wearing that down to my finger. What'S doing is really breaking up the underfoot, so we're still keeping the same shape we're getting a much more messier finish to such a where's it. So he wants to work on back. He'S got a little bit more shape and you get little bits falling through like that. These little short bits will fall through then we'll do a section from just past the sensor. There'S a guy underneath the razor again just from below halfway and just right down to really break that up. That'S nice! If he brings it back well like that, holds itself in place a bit of water. We want somewhere a bit scrunched all that texture from the razor will come out and create a bit more of a scrunchier texture like so three section set the razor to it. One section just passed as one now. The final thing i'm going to do is work through the top. Now i'm going to use the razor for this, i want to have a really serrated finish to this length. We'Ve done them through the sides. Let'S add a little bit through the back as well like we said, we've done what josh's ass we've kept all the length or as much as the length as we could on the top balance. There made it a bit more up to date, but more like a sort of a refresh on or a bit of a twist on dicaprio's twist on what the picture just showed me as well working quite high up towards the end. You know working across as well. So i want this to fall in loads of different ways for and not in the center part just off the sensor. What i'll do is i'll dry it off for you and i'll show you how it sits all right with salt spray. Just so, you can see what it's like all right, don't throw anything else in it. If you don't want to, i want to show you what the haircut's done, because again it's about the haircut right. The sauce will just give you a little bit of something else. I'M just going to use my fingers to dry this all right, very, very simple, just trying to, through out high speed high heat to dry from side to side like so you try it more ways: okay, so you're trying it against the way it wants to kind Of kick back at you, so can i maybe want to spit on one side we're trying to fight that? I'M just going to start to bring this up. Remember just the soft spray in this. Okay. Just try it loads different ways finish with the cold air. Now it's all down to how you want to style it, let's just bring it a bit off center, bring this up back, like i said this exact part and kind of thing definitely weight off your face, though yeah definitely worth your feet. Got such a strong hairline yeah we're talking. I was talking to someone about autumn winter trends um yesterday, um we were talking about what what do we think it's going to be, and i i don't. I don't know whether it's too early for the kind of 90s revival, just yet i'm seeing a lot of 90s revivals, but i think maybe it might be a little bit early this year for that. But i think definitely is that a looser finish of hair. You know i don't think people are wearing it too slick and too styled happy yeah, yeah thanks man looks wicked, really cool want to do that. So just to recap, um. We went for that kind of like undercut 90s leo vibe kind of a. You know that kind of what we, what a lot of us, those kids had in the 90s and like wouldn't say it was as drastic as the bold cut, but it was it's. It'S a variation off, that's where it kind of stemmed from right, but i just thought with josh today's got wicked here and i think it would be a shame just to do that. So i thought we could do something that was gon na still have a bit of shape when you look straight on, it's gon na have some shape through the back as well, without it just being kind of sitting heavy blunt all the way around and then really Really scalp exposure on the back and sides so for a three back inside we still have the blend of the three into the rounded head, the corner. Here then, we tape the neck out nice and tight, just a very natural taper, a few options when it comes to styling. If there's more wear anything, that's here, you can just have it real 90s, real curtains kind of look. If you want to add a bit of product, you can really change it around a little bit a bit more higher a bit more looser and go with more of what we're seeing a bit on trend as well, so yeah. I think it's working, i love it. It looks great thanks so much, i'm really really pleased come on here we go mate. Thank you. Thank you. You'Re very welcome. You

Boxing Proff: : "I want a undercut." : "Nah mate, you don't want that." : "yes sir."

Zains Bayss: “i want an undercut” “no” “ok”

Jed H: Dan is so good at every style he cuts. And this kid has frustratingly great hair lol

MeatyYT: i wish my barber understood what “keep the length on the top” meant. I’ll say “taper the sides and take of Quarter inch off the top” then she’ll just buzz cut me

Kyle: His after Haircut is good but his Before was legendary honestly!

MILOS RASKOVIC: *He is Gordon Ramsay for haircuts*

ATOP: He’s got sick hair so jealous

dom18650: In 20 years kids will watch some of those videos and be like " why is everyone wearing face masks?"

Siddhant Kaushik: I never thought a haircut could take this much of thought and planning, great work and techniques.

Logan Knight: i can’t be the only one that would to get my hair cut by this guy, he knows what’s better for the customer, and explains everything he is doing as he does it

Ben Montgomerie: Loving these longer haircuts you’re doing atm from everyone growing their hair out from lockdown, classic cuts

bekal K: This is exactly the style I asked for a couple days earlier! That's crazy. Thanks guys! these videos are very informative and useful for me. I feel like you have the only channel which I still learn from. And Dan's technique is awesome

ltz888: Thank you for this tutorial! The young man's hair is amazing, and you are so talented. Now we can't go to the hairdressers and are shielding, I tried this out at home on the other half, and it worked a treat! Cheers! ❤️

Ant Dale: This is why guys like Dan should be applauded, instead of going for the easy option of an undercut(which i had back in the 90's) like he said his mates could of done that for him. He wanted him to get not only the right style but also value for his money I'm sure. It looks great

William Luna: The client has literally won the good gene lottery. Perfect hair, perfect skin.

Over aLL: Guys brain: just cut my hair dude

James Mann: Really enjoyed this video! Always so informative and easy to follow. I did a qualification in barbering last year (finished March 2020) but obviously haven’t had much opportunity to carry on/cut since! Watching these videos makes me look forward to getting back to it. Random question, when you say “just off centre”, how much off and does the parting go back in a straight line or at an angle? Thanks!

Rory Moon: I like this haircut, but I wanna say Josh's style in general is

TheJojo01902: OMG, I ❤️❤️❤️ this haircut and style. Excellent work, Regal Gentleman Dan! Josh is blessed with awesome hair, too.

Shamir Al Nino: I need a barber who talk hair like him and not ask bout my girl friend and take me into different realm and soon as i notice my hair is already messed up yoh.....where can i get one

Marty Bryde: One of the best technical hairdressers out there. Great craftsmanship and advice and execution. Plus a good watch collection too mate! Keep it up!

Catherine G: Not only is Dan a brilliant barber but he also comes across so friendly, his customers must feel very comfortable

S H M U E L: Finally someone nailed my haircut, now I have a perfect reference to show my barber how it should look like. I always have a weird disconnected top-side everytime I go to the barber, and I have to wait 3 weeks for my hair to grow just to look like this.

당신 자신사랑: So so jealous of his hair. Any haircut would be perfect with his hair.

Champ: Such a sick cut! Hair looks amazing at the end, wish I could have hair like that... What a weapon of a barber

erica m: I've been doing it just like this this for a while on my own, bought clippers and shears and all that ... Glad to see I've just naturally been doing it correctly, using the same techniques, thank god cuz I always doubt myself no matter how happy they walk away.

Dexter echiverri: Great cut, on of the most beautiful heads of hair I’ve ever seen. The guy is truly blessed.

Rishifades: i just love seeing how he tackles the cut. the sectioning work makes for a clean canvas to work on.

Lee Glover: That is a great cut .!! Top class from Dan as always .!!

Rebecca G: New subscriber! You broke the cut down so well, and made it so easy to follow. You’re a natural teacher. I am a Cosmo student and I will DEFINITELY be telling all my barbering friends that you are a “must watch”. Simply Amazing cut.

DM Punk: Been watching every video all year hoping to find 'my style' and this is it!! This is what I want Dan!! Hopefully paying you a visit soon

UU BEE: I love how this guy doesnt just cut...he teachers at the same time...and then he doesnt just teach hair...he teachers art!

🌺 trevor : I love how you give your opinion on what he should do... but you do it in a way that it gives him the chance to come back and speak with you so you two can reach a place where you know exactly what he wants, but you can use your expertise to make sure it's still a nice, relevant style. A lot of barbers either listen to what you say and don't really give their opinion, so they might not have a full understanding of what their client wants and it can end up not being such a great haircut sometimes.

Daniel Braide: Great haircut. I hope to become a professional barber as yourself Dan and with the same skill set, I'm watching loads of your videos and learning loads from you, thanks.

Barak k: This dude has perfect hair, makes me jealous. Awesome haircut

Linda Louise Janssen: I've learned a lot from you. Doing my son's hair in the lockdown. I'll probably never be a rich hairdresser as the cut takes me about 2 hours (LOL)

Abdullah Ansari: I like when professionals do this, when they recommend what they know will work for you whether it's hair, clothing, shoes, glasses etc. Because sometimes we think we know what we want, but we're not professionals in the field and we don't know any better. I'm glad he didn't give the kid the undercut he wanted and instead gave him this brilliant, well constructed haircut that looks great on him

Mriganav Sarma: the haircut and hairstyle is sooooooooooooooooooooooo sick. loved it

Stefan Sigfinnsson: Great haircut. One of the very few from the 90's that I actually like and I think it looks like tailormade for this guy

Paula C. Muñoz Torres: I wish all the men in my life a barber like him. Also, even with the mask on, we know josh is fine AF

L K: The way this guy talks and handles the tools is like an artist

Steve-in-Cornwall: Another awesome haircut. Josh has gorgeous hair. I envy him

estix: Omg. I love this channel. Dan is very talented.

Susie: I always seek out videos before I cut someone's hair, but usually can't find anything that actually helps me, but I watched this video and picked up things that I credit with helping my totally nail a cut like this on someone. THANKS SO.MUCH!!!

Harmanlifestyle: really good haircut! the barber is a master, listening to the client and don't doing shitty haircut

lSucrel: me encanto! técnicamente impecable!

BLizZ: Best hair cut, best editing I’ve seen in years. Bravo

Rasmus Alexander Fuglsang: One of the greatest layered haircuts I’ve ever seen

Denis Costa: top demais parabéns,belo trabalho

Lolita CB: That is an excellent haircut. I always wonder how to do that? Now I have an idea. Thanks for sharing.

Amiel Ortiz: I thought 0:00 was the ending. That's a 90's hair already.

Aydarrn: Who else randomly came across this channel and now binges these videos?

Jamie Mitchell: That dude is so gifted with that hairline. Great cut!

Dry Martin: guy: yeah look i want it like this... barber: yes but actually no

QuantumS1ngularity: The guys obviously is good, but c'mon... I can't be the only one who thinks his initial haircut was better and awesome. Anime protagonist level in the beginning, in the end just a gentle male model from a magazine

KGS: Josh has gorgeous hair. That’s exactly the haircut I want, and I’m a woman. I’ve got very curly hair, and if I condition it and let it dry naturally it will be perfect.

Maria Lascaibar: Great Hair Cut!!! Thank you for sharing. ❤️

superLuigi675: i think the dream is to grow my hair out for a solid year and then finally get a cut from this guy

A Slithering Demon: As someone that went to (mainly female-oriented) cosmetology uni, the methods and techniques I learn from videos like these endlessly keep blowing my mind! The "slicing" and razoring methods this barber used, I have never seen before (point cutting yes, but not for slicing!) and as someone that likes/has short hair themselves, it helps SO MUCH! Especially now during the pandemic when getting hair appointments is either difficult or impossible. My uni was/is a very small town run business, so I didn't really get an overly broad spectrum of training, as far as techniques and "shortcuts" are concerned. We got lots of older clients due to the trainee discount, so that meant a lot of traditional mens' cuts, roller sets, the occasional fingerwave/pincurl, and PLENTY of perm curl & style! I love blending my hair short into long like in this video, and now I know that when I need a trim/touch-up, I don't have to abuse the hell out of my texturizing shears to get the desired results! Thank you so much for providing these kinds of videos for us newbies to keep educating ourselves with!
