Hi guys today in this video, I'm going to be showing you how to give yourself a military regulation fade haircut., I'm gon na be using the Wahl color-coded system, and it's just simple, because you can't get it wrong with all the different colors. They make it very. Very simple. Make sure you have a some form of lubricant and or protectant for your equipment.. I prefer this stuff called `` Shaver Guard.''. It smells really good by the way.. It just keeps your stuff nice- in a good working order, and this is optional, but I do recommend using a trimmer something that gets a little closer than these do, and I use a Remington trimmer for that. Make sure you uh- just to start out make sure You have a nice um set of mirrors, so you can see what's going on., I use the little one to look into the big one. I'll demonstrate that in a second but um. The reason why I do this is because in the Marine Corps we have to have haircuts every single Monday and that adds up really quickly. 8,9,10 dollars a week with just a haircut, not even including tips-. So I bought this pair for about twenty bucks.. I'Ve had to buy two pairs so this-. This is my second set in the past four years.. So it's really saved me a lot of money. It cost my like 20 bucks- um, but it's a good skill. Because-Ya know- I'll never have to pay for a haircut again unless I want some crazy style-. But even if you don't want a skin-fade, you can still just increase the numbers but go up from there, which that'll make more sense after I demonstrate my technique, here.. So, to start out, you're gon na have the taper. If you have it, set all the way as low as it'll go., So you're not gon na have any guards. What we're gon na be doing first is creating our baseline.. That'S what everything is gon na go off of and that sets the height of the fade, whether you want just a taper or a low fade. Medium fade high fade high & tight, whatever you want. Okay. So when you finish that step, you should have a decently straight line, and that is your guideline, your baseline um. I prefer a medium fade. That'S what I'm doing in this video but uh again, the techniques are the same, no matter what level the fade, is. Uh! So next we're gon na take the Remington trimmer and we're just gon na cut everything just below that so say this is our baseline, we're gon na go just right below you? Don'T wan na touch it because you're gon na mess up the fade, but if you just go right below it, you're just gon na get a little bit closer to the skin and it's gon na look more like a skin-fade.. Alright. So once you finish that step, you should .you should have all the hair underneath the line all the little hairs that were too short for the big clippers to get.. So you also wan na have a brush. It helps keep your equipment, nice and clean. It even helps when you're done to get the hair off your body., So just a standard, um body brush or clipper brush. I don't know what you call it, but it really makes cleaning up much easier., So the next step we're going to take the 1.. So these uh, these guards are in increments of on. uh ones., So they have inches on there and millimeters, but um. They also have them with just a order number if that makes sense so, like the one is 1/8 of an inch, but it's the number one for the set. If that makes sense. And then ya got the 2, which is 1/4 of an inch yeah, the two which is 1/4 of an inch and 6 mm, but I don't really-, I really just pay attention to the set numbers 1,2,3,4.. They have two numbers that are in the middle, they have a 1/2 and they have a 1 1/2 um. This one doesn't come in the set. Someone gave it to me. It matches the set or fits it, but um. You can also go in-between guards with the taper, so you have a 1 on there and you open up the taper guard you're at a 1 1/2.. So just uh we're gon na skip the 1/2. For now we'll go back to it. We're gon na. Take the 1, the red one in this case and you're gon na have the guards closed again so short as it can go and your're gon na go to about an inch above that line. The baseline, you made., Make sure you give yourself room to make the fade with the 1/2 underneath it.. I know when I was first starting out. I tended to cramp up the lines and that's uh -because. I was scared, I guess to go high, but you got ta have room to do all this. Don'T cramp it. So go nice and nice and high above that line.. So, as you can see, there's still a line there. Don'T worry, I didn't forget it.. So now we're gon na take the 1/2 the 1/16 of an inch and we're gon na erase that line that we just created the bottom one.. Okay, now you're gon na take the 1 again and you're gon na go up to a 1 1/2. So you take the 1 and go up with the taper lever., So 1 1 1/2.. Alright, here's the final product and by following these quick and easy steps, you too can be cutting your own hair. So you never have to pay a barber again. Thanks for watching and till next time.

Theodor Eberbach: I came because the COVID-19 situation caused barbershop to be closed, so I have to learn how to cut my own hair

Rocco Noble: I've been fading my own hair since I was in the military. If you learn how you will never have to wait in line at a barber shop again plus you save yourself a lot of money also. While everyone I know is either sporting a hat or having their hair woofing , I'm sporting a nice , clean fade

E46Lewis: This is by far thee best & most easiest precise tutorial hands down on YouTube. I fade my own hair & ive watched hundreds & I mean hundreds of these videos. This is by far the best by a country mile. God knows why people go to the barbers for a fade. Once you learn to be self sufficient it saves you sheds of money. I hold the mirror in one hand & hold clipper in the other

Leroy B: You make putting in that 1st line look easy! As you demonstrate the key is to keep it low and give yourself plenty of room. The mistake newbies (and myself) make is putting the initial line too high then suddenly you're up on the dome. Great vid

Grace 413: Thank you! Just gave my husband a Military haircut for the first time and it came out perfect. He’s very happy. Great tutorial!

A. Трбовић: I have been cutting my hair since early in quarantine and have played it somewhat safe (doing a 1 on the sides and 2 on top; 1.5 to blend). While I have been getting better I paid this video another visit and decided to do a bald fade. I followed these instructions exactly and it turned out pretty damn good. Thanks for the video! The best video for this kind of fade I've seen and that's been a lot. The others are either too technical or just plain garbage. Thanks again!!

David maclean: Tried it, now I'm praying the lockdown lasts another month.

Mark Loren Fahey: Thanks for your service, and hair cutting tips Marine! Very informative.

Paul Purcell: Awesome tutorial, I just bought the Wahl Color Pro Clipper set recently, so excited to give this a go. I like your cut measurements, but may try a 1 on the sides and back and taper up from there, and maybe later try the closer skin fade layer-pattern.

uacmarine19: Thanks for the guide. Just finished and it looks just as good as you could get from sports clips. Using the mirrors was trickier than I thought but take your time and it works out.

x_d3bug_x: Veteran of ARMY here, this tutorial really helped me out mate. Nie that I'm a civi, I figure I'd learn to cut own hair. Your video is top notch and easy to follow in basically 5 easy steps

gsp0113: So I just attempted this and thought I'd give a report of the experience. Viewers should know, going into this, that It isn't easy. The vlogger has been doing this on a weekly basis for years, so don't expect things to go as smoothly as seen here on your first one or two tries. It will be particularly difficult if your hair is on the long side for the first cut: the hair will tend to overhang the borders you're creating and will make it harder to see what you're doing. Fortunately, hair grows back and if you didn't do a great job on your first attempt, chances are your skills will improve in the haircuts that follow.

ike loco: I've watched like 10 videos on how to do this and this one was the best fade with the easiest instructions. Great job

Andrie Mantik: By far this is the easiest tutorial on how to do a fade haircut. Thanks for sharing, man. Well done!

Brian R.: I just wanted to say a huge thank you for taking the time to share how to cut your own hair. I took it slow and followed your guidance from start to finish and ended up with a great haircut my first time during this COVID-19 pandemic. I watched many other videos, and yours is by far the best, thank you!

Spike Loumax: I tried this out on my half dead grandad. Gave him a reverse fade down from his bald head. Looks great. He seems to like it too, his teeth have been smiling all night at me down the hall from the glass next his bed. Cheers mate.

J Werner: Great job, man. Creating that temporary 'band' between the bottom section and the upper part of the head seems brilliant. It appears that you faded up into the band from the bottom shaved section using a guard shorter than the length of hair in the band but longer than the shaved part of the head, and faded the band into the upper part of the head using a guard longer than the length of hair in the band but shorter than the hair on the top part of the head. Please let me know in case I'm not understanding that correctly because fading the into both the bottom and top of the band is the biggest take home message of your haircut demonstration for me. Other videos show barbers doing haircuts and switching many guards back and forth but they don't explain much about what they are doing or why they are doing it. I think they forget what it's like to be a complete beginner. Unless I'm not understanding it correctly, you have made it very straightforward. Also, thank you for your service!

Mark Eckert: This is a really cool video and so helpful during the current COVID-19 lockdown. Thanks for the top tips and guidance

bodean2000: Excellent fade. Been cutting my own hair for about 25 years now and I have an adjustable hight mirror on a pole that makes things much easier.

Mustafa H: Thanks to you I have the confidence to try this out . I can afford a haircut but it's gotten ridiculous. I pay $40 for beard and cut without tip. My hair grows back so fast

Julian: Thank you so much for your video. I ordered the same clippers and I’m gonna try this very soon. I might start with a buzz cut and then try a fade a week or two later. How long do you cut your hair all the way on the top and in the front?

Aaron Oddball: This is great, I also make hair cut videos so it's nice to see other guys doing the same, keep up the good work buddy =)

Jeff Sagerman: This is by far the very best video for a self hair cut that I have found on YT. It works for me, followed Tim's instructions to the letter and achieved success. Thank you Sir. Only thing I couldn't do was to secure a Wahl clipper, Amazon was out of stock ("unavailable"), so I bought a clipper/trimmer set on Amazon from Andis, model# PM-1/PM-4. $48.99 plus shipping and they work just fine. They too are now "unavailable" as was the Wahl. Guess I'm not the only one that can't live without my H & T every three weeks.

nottix: This is really helpful, simple, and straightforward. Helped me get over the fear of messing my hair up. Never know until you try, wish me luck.

Sudden: I've tried it one year ago because I wanted buzz cut and I'm doing myself a cut since then. I've saved so much money! Thanks man for easy tutorial! Greeting from Poland!:)

Steve: Damn good job! Every Monday??? Impressive. I spent 24 years in the Army, deployed with 24th MEU in Somalia if I recall. Never felt safer with the Marines on the perimeter.... I am 54 and am tired of wasting time waiting for a a haircut, and to pay a crap load more than 10 bucks! Thanks...I will give it a try and see how it goes. Thank you for your service! Many of us out here truly appreciate it....

Marcesko: Just did my haircut because of COVID-19. Turned out very good, the fade and its height is even better than my barbers. Watched multiple youtube videos and by far this is the best one for my hairstyle. Although I used different height of the fade on the back and different guards (1-2-3-4) it turned out very very good. I will now go to my barber when I need to do my top, but maybe I'll learn to do that as well some day. Thanks @Tim Gassman you're a true MVP in these hard times! #fuckcorona

A O: Thanks man...went to a hairstylist today to get sharp for an interview tomorrow, and her guide wasn't on right so she dug a trench in my hair and I didn't notice til I was out. I coincidentally had the same clipper set sitting unused in my closet, and watching this gave me the confidence to fix the mess myself. Shaved it down to a 3 on top, fade all around, and it looks good. Thanks for your help!

JL250X: I remember doing this in the barracks. I always loved having three mirrors. Made it soo much easier to cut my own hair

MERCURIUS FM: great video, helped me and my wife cut my hair. for me it wasnt about saving money, but rather saving time and having to deal with people. thanks!

M Gaston: OMG!!!! I just butchered my son's hair. I should have watched your video first. Thank you for your service in the US Marines!!!! Loved your video.

Della the Dead: Coastie vet here, wanting to buzz my head again. Nothing I looked up seemed to sync up with what I wanted until now. Your presentation and skill really hit the mark for me. Thanks for this.

Elizabeth Davis: Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. This is the second I’ve used it to cut my husband’s hair. It is now saved for future references lol.

bobbyladd: Barbers: "we're going to make a fortune when the lockdown relaxes." Everybody else: "no more going to the barber for me, cutting hair is easier than we thought."

Kyle S: This is probably THE best way to show someone new how to cut their own hair (in a fade). Sometimes I come back and watch just to admire the quality.

Steve H: Thanks. Simplest video I’ve found well explained. Gonna try this with beard clippers

damian shaw: Did exactly how you did it and mine turned out great thanks I'm working on myself in giong into the Marines wish me luck

Barnaby Dodd: You make it look so easy. You look like you have really good hair so that probably helps!

bohogal1: I am a female who uses three mirrors to cut my own hair. My fiance wants me to cut his hair. He wears a skin fade on the sides and a flat top. This is good instruction for cutting the sides. Thanks for the step-by-step!

Lieu Falcon: It starts at 2:30 for all the high speed individuals.

Bright: Love the video and if you served, thank you for your service! Do you think this could be fitting for my 11 year old son? If not do you have any suggestions as to what would? His hair is so long and he needs a nice short change like this.

Russell Bogrett: I was a military barber for 20 years. There are military barbers who are not the best at regs. Part of the reason a man comes to the barbershop is for the haircut but the other reasonnis to relax and chill out a little.

Ben Dover: Great video. Thanks to you, I've saved soooo much money.

jimmy westergaard: Well I buggered that up completely! Got a nice smooth 0.5 all over now LOL

Jon Nelson: My clippers are on the way! We’re on lockdown for another month at least, so I figure there’s plenty of time for any disastrous mistakes to grow out. And I have plenty of hats.

Foxy: A good demonstration. For people who don’t have as much experience you can always start at the top with the biggest guards and work down. That way you won’t put in any lines that you need to get out.

Ream: Tried to cut my own hair today. My brain and hands got so confused when using two mirrors.

G B: What a great haircut man. Thanks for posting his video

Chris Carrasco: This is the most clear instruction I’ve seen.

Νικόλαος Θεοδωρίδης: This was super helpful. Thanks a lot

Kiwi Kiwi: Why is this one a better and more amateur friendly tutorial than all the professional barber ones. Cheers.

Rivka B: This was great, it will help a lot for my friend who cuts her hubby's hair!

pressrepeat2000: Huge money saver. Great job!

V For Vendetta: Excellent job! Thanks for sharing!

Deven Sekharan: Hello I’m in cadets and we need short. I was looking and this hair cut was really interesting so I looked for a video and this is what I found. This video is awesome and so use full. This is so good I shared it with my army friends keep up the good work

Patrick Schwerdtfeger: just cut mine, came out pretty darn good. It really helps to have that second mirror on the wall.

Watch Me: Set the Taper to low, Cut your guard line, Cut below the base line with a smaller trimmer next guard 1 which is 1/8 Taper Off and cut an inch from the baseline you made, Guard 1/16 to start erasing the lines then take 1 set the Taper to 1/2.

Tania Austin: Amazingly good work. Thanks.

Mike Point: Thanks a bunch and a great explanation of how to cut your own hair , I’m also here because of the Covid-19 pandemic . Cheers

JD Scott: Tim, how tough was it for you on your first attempt? I gave it a go today and had mixed results. The top isn't so bad but the sides aren't smooth. I also don't have a tapering option on the clippers I ordered.

Adrian Ruiz: Thank you so much, I have been looking for years for a video like this

Victor Leonard: I also have red hair. I like the hair cut you have before you started cutting it. My hair is getting a little shaggy now. When Ohio opens back up on May 1st, I will ask my barber to cut it like in the beginning of your video. Thanks for serving!

mariohiph: Nice video. Saving this for when my hair gets a bit longer. I need clippers with the open/close lever.

m.c.fishing: Best tutorial so far to do it at home the other that "teach you" have all this fancy machines you keep it simple

RJ Carter: You did an excellent haircut. The fade looks perfect. On me, I don't like such long hair on top. How would you cut the top short?

Erick Torres: Great video I have the same clipper set!

T. Hunt: When I was in, I loved the barbers outside Lejeune. Speedy, nice fade, no small talk, and only $7 each Sunday. If I had a barber like that where I live, I'd no problem. But, the barbers here take way too long to cut, want to small talk, charge 13-15$ and still mess it up. Been cutting my own for years, but never skin tight. Followed this a few weeks ago and I think it would pass inspection.

5273 ex rfn: Iv'e been cutting my own hair for over 20yrs at least once every 6wks or so.It's quite easy really and all i have is a mirror infront. It's vertually impossible to go too high as all your doing is following the shape of your head. The end result is exactly the same as in this video only difference i do a number one sides and back at the start rather than a skin fade..The more you cut your own hair the more you will save a fortune on barbers.Wahl is the best make hair clippers and i still have a pair from 2003 when i was the local barber out in the gulf cutting my military muckers bonces.......Great vid btw...

SoCal Trains: Thank you for your service sir and great video too.

Duncan Murray: thanks for the video! really good skill ill be looking to learn

Hamza Tabaichount: wonderful my friend, thanks a lot. I'm 20 bucks wealthier!

Travis Lundy: Looks amazing!

some guy: I just yolo'd this without the proper mirror set up for the back and it turned out pretty decent. Thanks for the video

Jairo The Pyro: Just did this. Mom absolutely loves it! Haha

Archie Roberts: What do you do for the top Do you use clippers? If so what length?

atotheg1991: "barbers hate him"

Fly Lopez: good fade i cut and faded my own hair friday night and it came out just as good as a barber and i feel so happy i dont have to waste $$$ $30 $35 every time for a haircut or wait in stupid line and such, now i can cut my hair get a fresh fade every week or every 2 weeks witout wasting $$$ can be fly fresh all the time !!!

Sam Brown: Nice cut dude. Did a short cut similar to this after watching. Still need better clippers though, I didn't go too short on the sides cause my fade wouldn't be perfect

Ryan v: Great video. Gotta do my own sice the virus hit and everything is closed. This helps. Thanks

Watch Me: Thanks for sharing I always wanted to to learn how to fade thanks to you I know now and can do it at home. Moving house far and where I’m going live there no barber shop it’s too far to travel. Where did u get theses glasses from ?

James: This is such a great video. Thank you sir

SurferVideoDude: I have to thank you. This video was passed to me by a one star. Know a four star also used it. Thanks!

Brenmck 1991: Best self hair cut yet my friend

Phuc Duc Vo: Perfect, Bro!!! I wish you can cut my hair like this!!!

US Marine Patriot: Semper Fi! Great fade. After I got out of the Corps I went to Barber School on the GI Bill, had my own shop until I retired. Originally from NJ, but now living in Sunny Florida, I can't find a good Barber around here. So I cut my own hair, I give myself a Bald Fade, I love short hair. Just want to comment on the way you cut your own hair, you do an excellent job, and the steps you take are exactly what I do, really good for not going to Barber School. As we always say, "Adapt and Overcome", we can do anything if we put our minds to it. Haircuts are not cheap, even on Base. I was paying $20 here with the tip, so I'm saving a lot of bucks, and I don't have to come home and recut my hair to fix what they didn't do. Take care enjoy the Corps, I loved it. I'm taking it easy now, I'm a Vietnam Vet, 100% disabled and enjoying life. God Bless.

JeffTheHokie: Hair grows approximately 1/8 inch per week, so each increment represents a week's growth.

Itsalwaysraininginfl !: Nice! Thank you for your service

Trevor Hunter: I got a lot of compliments on my fade at work and I followed your video. Thanks devil dog!

Shadow25b: Lol things we do in the military to save a dime, I still cut my own hair the same way since .....that fade is perfect .

Corona_Gaming: Hey I know this video was 2 years ago , but just wanted to say thanks, this helped me for my JROTC high school JPA inspection.

Seth Thunderhawk: See how this man made every barber hate him. Thank you man

Palle Kjær Laursen: QUITE impressed by your eye-hand coordination. Well done.

Kellen Gaskill: Best tutorial I’ve seen so far

Pedro Limia Vega: Muy buen vídeo compañero!

Aloha Tigers: The key is for a fade is to start low. Then if you don’t like it, go up higher slowly to the point you feel it’s alright.

Hernando Frederico Consales: Very good tips. Great video

tomclakai4: Man, you did better than most Barbers!!!

Pixelated Icon: nice video, i've been doing my own but more basic than that. next time ill copy these steps

D N: This fellow has a lot of experience and it takes a while to be able to give self a good haircut . Be careful and patient first time trying this

Eduardo Neyra: Nice haircut tutorial man!!
