Alpha's hair is driving him nuts as he's been growing it out. It's too the point where it's heavy. He likes his hair up with volume, but it's weighted-down. The bangs are good, but the back is not doing what Alpha likes it to do. In this video men's style, grooming, fitness and lifestyle expert, Aaron Marino of IAmAlphaM, AaronMarino, and Pete & Pedro demonstrates how he trims his own he's using scissors and a comb.

Wash, towel dry (leave damp), and comb into place. He wants to take the bulk out of the back section so he combs the bangs out of the way. He lifts a section of hair and pinches straight up. He simply snips about a 1/4 inch off the very ends and then goes right next to it. Follow the contour of your head. That strip is done. Go behind it and repeat. Once he gets back to the longer and heavier part, he takes a little more off.

The idea is that you go all the way back with tiny and systematic trimming. Perhaps you may have to trim a bit more after styling and checking; however, taking a little off will allow you to do what you want it to do. Alpha uses Pete and Pedro Putty for his styling: versitle, matte, works for short & long hair, and perfect pre-styler. Make sure to work the product all the way down to the root.

Use the hair dryer on the medium setting to blow into place then blow against the grain for volume. Alpha continues to demonstrate. His hair is now doing what he likes it to do. He locks the style into place with a bit more of the Pete and Pedro Putty. Emulsify to activate the hair product and run back into the hair to give it more pop. The trim gave his hair life!

Oh, No, gentlemen, what's happening so here's the deal my hair is driving me nuts. I'Ve been trying to let it grow out a little bit on top it's it's definitely gotten longer. Besides the back, I've been getting that tightened up every say ten days, but the top I've sort of just let it go. And it's getting to the point now, where it's a little bit heavy and what I mean by heavy is when I style it, because I, like my hair to be up a bit a little bit of volume, a little bit of playfulness like that little head, shimmy Yeah anyway, and it's just getting a little bit heavy and weighted down, especially in this area over here, the bangs. I think those are pretty good, but back here it's just getting a little bit long and it's not doing what I like it to do, and so today I'm actually gon na trim my own hair and show you how all right so for this little project, I'm Going to be utilizing these two things pair of cheap scissors, that I got in a haircutting kit and a comb, I'm also going to be needing a towel because first things, first, I've got to wet my hair. All right, then you're going to towel dry. It pretty! Well, I'm not totally dry but still damp. Then what you're going to do is actually comb your hair into place all right. For me. I have been rocking a bit of a side part and we're good all right. So here's the deal - my hair is still a pretty good length. I just want to take a little bit of the bulk out of it back in this section all right, so the bangs are pretty much good, so I'm gon na comb those over I'm not gon na touch them. I'M not going to do anything starting right behind my bangs, I'm going to lift up a section of hair, I'm gon na pinch it with these two fingers right there straight up, see that right, there's a little bit of hair between my fingers, then I'm going to Simply just snip off the very ends, then I'm going to go right next to it see now there's a little bit longer boom right there and move over following the contour of your head right there slightly right there perfect and one more over here now, all right. So that strip is done now, I'm going right behind it doing the same thing straight up and just the tips I'm cutting about a quarter of an inch off over right there quarter of an inch right there. Now this is the heavy part right, so I'm actually going to take a little bit more off right there and over right there boom little snip right there. Now. The idea is that you go all the way back and say that it's about the right length right little tiny, systematic quarter of an inch all over my head except the bangs. I didn't really mess with the back, because I don't have a lot of hair back there, and this is really just the problem area. The deal is a lot of times. Just taking a little bit off of your hair will allow it to do what you wanted to do. I, like my hair to have a little bit more luscious volume after I style it and it was sort of falling and I was having to use too much product so right now. What I'm gon na do. I'M gon na get a shower, come back style. My hair see if it's good or if I need to take a little bit more off gentlemen, the moment of truth, it's time to see if my little trim was enough or if I totally jacked my hair up all right. So my hair, I am combing into place. I am going to apply a little pre product or pre styling product. I am using Pete and Pedro putty. Those of you were interested in trying Pete and Pedro putty, which is hands-down the absolute best matte product. It'S the most versatile product, you're ever going to find works for short, hair works for long hair and it's the perfect prease Tyler. You want to make sure, though, when you are getting that product in you want to get it all the way down to the root root penetration is the name of the game. Next up is using a hairdryer on the medium setting. I am actually going to blow it into place, then what I'm going to do is actually blow it against the grain, to give it a little bit more lift and gentlemen, let's rock, and it's almost finished. I can already tell that the little bit of hair that I chopped off actually did what I needed to because there's a lot more volume and it's staying up a lot better. But to finish off the hairstyle, I actually lock it into place with a little bit more of the putty right. You don't need much literally just a little bit put it in the palm of your hand. Take your ring off, which I forgot to do last time and then emulsify emulsification activates it. Alright, you want to heat up the hair product. This is one of the mistakes that a lot of guys make. They don't actually emulsify. They put it in and they kind of rub it around. You got to give it the business and I'm gon na thready you're, going to run it back into your hair one more time to give it a little more pop and staying power. Staying power feel like a male enhancement. No, what do you think other than my alfalfa sprout that it's actually exactly what I was looking for? I needed to take just a little bit off, not like a ton or also would totally defeat the purpose of me trying to grow my hair out just a little bit just the trim in between haircuts is all it took for me to give my hair a Little bit more oomph a little bit more sexiness and life, and it worked well. The product, like I said, Pete made your putty. If you guys want to check out Beaton Pedro or the putty, there is a link, along with a discount code, to save you 20 %, to give it a try. Amazing product amazing line super healthy for your hair and it works. Like a charm, gentlemen, this just goes to show you that trimming your own hair, cutting it at home. If you take your time systematically move throughout your head, little tiny sections at a time, not all not so crazy, fast take your time. It'S not some rocket science formula, it's pretty basic! It'S pretty easy! If I can do it, so can you you

sayori the cinnamon bun: Everytime i tell the barber "just a small trim" I always end up being the last air bender

omfgSHORYUKEN: Bit of advice to anyone trying this; do little and often and never cut a huge noticeable bit of hair off to the point where people can see you've had a hair cut. It's easier if you cut your hair shorter over a few weeks so that people at work etc. won't see an immediate change and it gives your hair chance to naturally blend itself in and gives you chance to assess how it looks on a daily basis and it it needs more cutting off or not. Also if you have curly/wavy hair, remember that if you pull the hair straight and cut it, it will most likely look shorter than that because your hair will curl back up. So always add extra length for the waves when you snip it

Djole: This video encourage me to try this myself. I failed really bad. Had to go to a barber to fix my hair. Can't wait for next Tips & Tricks video. 10/10

Kyr Arnsugr: I'm 69 and have been cutting my own hair for 50 years. There's no longer a problem with too much weight on top. It's my waistline that needs trimming.

iDU LezGO: Thanks for the motivation in your videos in men's hygiene! I too trim/cut my own hair, and love your video so much- that I tried to make a video. I'm on a mission to your journey in contributing/sharing to men across the globe of basic hygiene. THANKS AGAIN!

A G: Needed this. Thanks man! I took way too much off last time when I grabbed the wrong guard and it's finally back to where it needed a trim. This helped a lot.

Krabbs: I was literally just wondering how to cut my own hair last night, and alpha always delivers. Great tips Aaron

Low Rider: Fantastic video i always wondered how i could trim my hair myself this is going to be extremely useful

Travis Gibbs: Alpha, I'm sure you won't reply to this but I just want to thank you for your videos. I stumbled upon you week and I have already learned SO MUCH. I've always struggled with self-confidence but, now, after watching your videos, I have improved my image and I already feel better about myself. Thanks, Alpha!

David Aleksoski: Yes! Definitely what I needed the most! I've been trying to cut my own hair the last three times I needed haircut. Thanks for the video and the tips!

TheAx504: I have picked up the trimmer and scissors many times during these last few weeks only to chicken out! As a teenage, I had shoulder length hair. Maybe it’s time to revisit those days!! Thanks for the lesson.

Hieu TV: I've been cutting my hair for the past 15 years. Aaron is SPOT ON in this video when it comes to hair product and how over time, your hair will get weighted down from it growing out too long and too much hair product. The science why your hair will look 10x better after a little trim, is that hair is alive when attached to your scalp. Similar to when you bring home flowers from the store, you need to trim an inch off the end before putting it into the vase. In doing so, the flower becomes alive. Same with your hair. When you just trim a bit off of the end, your hair will spring up and look more lively and fresh. I do this all the time, when I start to see that my hair is looking dull. Just a little trim does the trick to make you instantly more handsome and attractive!!!! Dont get scared. Just cut off 1/4 inch at a time. If you mess up, it'll always grow back, unless you're growing bald. lol

Bruno Giambroni: I first got into your channel with your first hair trimming at home. Awesome, as always!

Evan Dunn: I watched one of ur old videos about an easy quick hairstyle and it's what I live by. My hair looks so much better and I get lots of compliments now from my friends. Thank u

Career Code: Aahh not like this. Your hair was already cut. I can cut it myself even when it gets really messy. Just with the scissors and the back as well.

CK: I watched this video yesterday and my 22 year old son didn't want to pay $30 + tip to get his hair cut, he knows I have cut his brothers before, but the style was different. This video was EXTREMELY helpful and I had the assistance of my 26 year old daughter. Together we did a great job. My son is very happy with the results and would definitely ask us to do it again for him. Thanks for the great video advice!

RazrDaze07: You sir, represent everything a girl wants in a guy. Grooming, style, posture, confidence, and a fit body. Thanks for the videos and tips because it sure has boosted the amount of looks I get from women and people in general.

Randy: That very first cut you made should serve as a guide for the next cut. When you pick up the next section of hair, you should also pick up a little from the first cut you made. When done properly, you'll see a guide line indicating where to cut so that each section blends in with the previous section and doesn't leave a gap. The first and second cut were ok, the third cut when you said "perfect" was not. You were holding strands from the previous section, but you didn't cut up to it. Tip: Shears are held by placing the ring finger into the finger grip (i.e. hole) with the finger brace (i.e. finger rest) and only slightly past the first knuckle. The little finger goes on the finger brace and the thumb is inserted only slightly into the thumb grip while cutting. When combing, pull the thumb out of the grip and use it to hold the comb alongside the shears. When you need to make a cut, tuck the comb into the crook of the thumb on the opposing hand, insert the thumb into the thumb grip, make the cut, remove the thumb from the grip and puck up the comb from the opposing hand. The ring finger and little finger will hold the shears in place while combing.

Sharklette 555: This was exactly what I needed thank you!

Vivi Cynamon: Super cool video! I have pixie hair and I have been searching for a nice video to show me how to cut my own hair! Thanks for that!

Moises Virella: I started cutting my own hair a year ago. saves 25 a month. first time is a little scary but it's worth it.

oscarsencionjr92: It's crazy how many years a hair style can take from you. You can tell your age that was good. What a proper video. Thanks.

NiGiVlog: Really have to thank you for this video. never was fully satisfied with what several barbers did to me hair. Tried cutting my hair a few times lol didn't turn out well. This helped alot !

JNtolm: Me and my twin brother have been trimming the side and back of our hair for months, at first it was scary but now we are really good at it and have been complimented a lot. It's also saved us hundreds of dollars, so thank you alpha m for your original video

Almog Chaim: Hey alpha, I have medium length curly hair. I don't blow-dry or comb & brush my hair. Should I still use the pre-style puddy? If not, can you describe what product should I use to keep my curls tamed? Thanks!

Almog Chaim: Hey alpha, I have medium length curly hair. I don't blow-dry or comb & brush my hair. Should I still use the pre-style puddy? If not, can you describe what product should I use to keep my curls tamed? Thanks!

I agree with you: I just tested this on my brother. Good thing I didn’t test it on myself first because his hair looks like shit

Jorge Luis: Bro your tutorial helped me a lot..I was afraid but the result was great

The Oath Keeper 420: This video is really informative, and helped me out a bunch. Thanks for the guide, and I loved the alphalpha joke btw.

Dhiraj Dodeja: I don't know if I can cut my hair but I'll definitely gonna try anyway thanks for the video and keep on making these type of videos they do help alot

Tien Doan: I had been using his videos and started cutting my own hair , save $30 a month . Its look better than going to the barber because i use a thinning scissor to create volume and turn out i never have to style my hair.

F P: You just described my hair situation since I started cutting it more on the sides. That middle part between bangs/sides/back part of the head is always impossible to tame.

Joseph D.: I was one year letting my hair grow, but a couple days ago I got tired of it and cut it with scissors(wildly), this will help me :)

Raev Fairwiz: I just subscribed to your channel!! Your videos are so helpful and amazing!! =)

Saim S.: My hand-eye coordination is so bad when it comes to doing the scissors and comb technique. My arms get so tired too.

Anthony Crist: Hey Alpha M, I have started the fitness journey and lost tons of fat. My problem is that I am noticing it harder to find clothes that fit due to long legs shrinking waist line and a big butt. Any ideas of how to make a little easier??? I don't really want to have a larger waist size because the glutes.

Behemuths Arts: Alpha i love your videos. However, i had like to see some advice for other kind of hair other than soft hair. it would be a nice tutorial and you could attract other audiences as well.

richard herbst: I have been cutting my own hair for many years.   Always looks good and saves ton$ of $$$$'s.   It is not that hard.  I use a three way mirror to see all angles.

Kevin Rivera: FYI: a tip is to style your hair up (spikes) then use your scissors to cut straight down (vertically, perpendicular to the top of your head) which will add more texture

TheUltimateDab 1: his hair looks way better without styling

Julian Perez: How long should I have my hair at the top? My hair is long enough to go a little past my nose and I just had my sides faded today. I took a little off the top with scissors but it’s still feels heavy and long

João Victor Cabañas: You are a very brave man! Cutting your own hair with scissors (not with a clipper) is something! Congrats from Brazil!

Kendall Bigman: I do this all the time!!!:)

Conner Cox: Prob one of your most useful videos, thanks bruh!

Prod. by End: If it's getting weighed down you just need to blow dry your hair with a mousse or a pre styler you like and then add a strong post styler. Then, your hairstyle shouldn't fall down.

Bobby Montiel: I've been cutting my hair for about 4 years now to any amateur new to cutting hair, this is a good easy tip

Emmett Olson: I’m so glad this man is here to help men with basic hygiene. He is a saint.

España Llenodegentusa: I hate how the fade haircut is gone within only 2 weeks. I wish i was a famous soccer player like a Real Madrid's player so I can afford an own barber to have fresh cuts all the time

Mevin Kalone: Damn I actually cut my hair pretty good thanks to you.

Jonathan Gomez: Thank you for sharing tips now I don’t have that messy hairstyle looking good ✌.

Jeffrey Cox: I cut my hair too but i like to go get haircuts. I sometimes use a 5mm or 3 mm or 7 mm on top. Then a zero on sides and back. I like a little length on top and short on back and sides. Your hair looks blackish brown. Nice video Aaron

Random Guy: Bruh, I've learned a lot from your videos. Honestly. Thanks for sharing your tips!

whatdoi nameit: My mom cuts my hair before it sucked now it's really good because she knows how to

Ad Dz: Question to all the AlphaM Gentlemen What's the max $ you spend on your routine visit for a haircut regardless of the salon type?

The Pour Project: Alpha, I just discovered that we have the same hair structure and basicly almost the same length. Could you make a hair tutorial to do your exact hair style? Because I do to have a 'semi-'big nose and I like to make it look smaller using the volume of my hair locks. :)

Damon: THANK YOU. My barber always takes way too much off. I always say “just a trim but don’t cut the back because I want it to grow long” and she proceeds to cut all of the back off and trim the top off by like 3 inches even though I only asked for 1 inch to be taken off. So I basically go from medium/long hair to a crew cut.

nathania love: Thanks for the tips! I'm Done trimming! Now I'm on my way to a barber shop

Jon Manilenio: That was very helpful, thanks!

Shuaizu: What if your hair is super dry and stiff and you can't just grab a bit to do that? Or if it's so split that it goes further than just the tips?

Vishal Patel: very useful and interesting to watch even if you dont need it

Weight Training Guide: Good stuff. Exactly what I needed.

Shut da hell up: 2:10 its so ridiculously hard for me to cut the hair with scissors on top, everytime either the scissor goes in front of the "targeted" hair or behind them..... Pisses me off so much

drumbum: For a side part, is it standard to leave the hair longer on the 'part' side to keep some weight so it falls over nicely? Is this why you took some length off of the 'non-part' side? I'm asking because I just had my hair cut and realized after playing with it at home that the top was left longer on the 'part' side. Is this normal or did I get a hack job? AARON PLEASE HALP!

Fashion Life Style: Alpha You Are The Man And You Just Make My Day Your A Inspiration To All And Have Changed My life

Dave mkay: Hella dope, I finally got a new hairstyle! Thanks alpha.

Jesus Blanco: I still wouldn't trust myself cutting my own hair

SunShine: I’m on long hair journey and I’m starting to have split ends and I can’t risk trimming it on my own so I’m gonna wait until the pandemic is over - god makes it really soon - and go to the barber. Notice: split ends does not prevent your hair from getting longer, but it will slow down the growth process. So in normal days if you are going to let your hair grow long, once you see split ends get rid of it immediately which should be every tow months or so.

greenday lover: Try keeping the comb in your hand while you're cutting with the scissor. Makes everything a little easier :)

Wonderboy in Gameland: Great job! Thanks!

HGFEEDC: I've been cutting my own hair almost every week for five years. Beats the hell out of having to stop at a barbershop.

HBSCF23: Who else thinks he actually looks best with fresh washed hair and without any hair products used (like in the beginning of the vid)?

fudk_off: i just used the 6 attachment and kept cutting until it stopped. worked pretty good

edward28051989: I cut my ears, now I'm in a hospital, it's all fine. Thank you for your video 10/10

J-Kas: I cut my own hair and I do a great job

Rango: Can you make the other half of this video where you tighten up the sides on your own; I'm tired of paying 10 every 2 weeks to just get cleaned up with clippers when I have my own pair at home.

Abhishek Kumar: Thanks buddy..!! U made me learn trimming hairs..! Now I don't need any barber , I can simply. Cut my own hairs..! And I did this today only

SANTOS MARTINEZ: Def going to try!!! Thanks dude!!!

qurkha: literally just got out of bed and cut my hair & it came out great lol

DarxLord: This is the video I need cause I’ve only cut the hair on the sides and cut a bit of the top but looked in the mirror later and I’m like “I should’ve cut it more” well now I can try to cut it now and hopefully I don’t screw up xD

WillowBean: “Nice haircut, did you do it yourself?” Me: “Actually, yes”

Anirudh Bhonsle: Alpha! I love you man. Every single thing I want I keep searching if I can find it in your feed. All your content is amazing and you sure are making me an alpha male man! Keep up the good work cheers!

Razvan Jurca: I watched this guy's videos, and what I sure learned from them is that I have to get this guy with me when I go to buy clothes

EPereda1995: hey alpha, is your hair naturally like that or did you have to treat it for it to be straight?

Hai Lam: This is what im looking for in this quarantine. Thank u very much.

Oliver Sky: I tried and failed as usual time to HIDE myself from humanity as my hair grows back.
