ABOUT BEARDBRAND

Beardbrand is a men’s grooming company that focuses on beard care. We are changing the way to society views beardsmen by shifting beards to a more neutral to positive connotation. We post new videos every Thursday and would love your subscription. Beard on!

Sometimes you want to look like you've been hanging out on the beach all day and have that dry gritty hair from swimming in the ocean. I like to call this the beach bum hair style, sea salt hair, or wavy hair. It's a pretty easy process to get this look. All you'll need is a hair dryer, sea salt, and some styling product. For this I'm using Hanz de Fuko Quicksand which gives a very gritty beach like texture.

I like to apply the products to the hair while it's still wet then use the scrunching technique and a hair dryer with a diffuser to get the wavy look. I personally like using a high end hair dryer because it will be able to dry my hair quicker with less heat.

What'S going on internet, it is your boy eric bandholz back again with another awesome episode from beardbrand, Oh balls, going well on the other side of the Internet, I'm going to do a hair tutorial video today, and I want to change this hair. Do this now to make this hair happen, you're going to need some things first, things. First is some sea salt. Now you can actually make this stuff yourself. It just takes some sea salts and water and coconut oil, but ain't. Nobody got time for that. We just go to store and buy some got some product here, we're going to be using some Hanz de Fuko quicksand yeah, we're going to give it the beach bum look and because I ain't got time to wait around for it to dry. I'M going to be blowing it and everyone needs a good blow and for a good blow you need a good hair dryer and finally, on the tip of that hair dryer, I'm going to be putting a diffuser now diffusers are going to help spread out the air. So that it doesn't have a very pointed airflow, it's just more of a gradual flow. So to get this party started, I'm going to need to wet my hair down I'll, be right back! Oh man. I just know how to get myself wet huh. So what I normally do, this is kind of like after I hop out of the shower. I will comb the hair and they say combing your hair, while it's wet isn't the best thing for it, but you know just don't go overboard, just do it. Nice and gentle give it a little bit of love. Also, if you're going for the wavy look, you probably don't need to comb it all the way back like I do it's just kind of have it. For me, my hair is still kind of short. It'S not super long, but that's where we get started, so I liked it dampen it. Maybe a little bit more, and the first thing I want to do is get some of this sea salt spray. Now it says to shake it because particles may separate so all right, it's all good and shaken now and let's, let's give it a liberal, let little the rule of dosing of it, because I want to have some pretty cool wavy hair. Now, if you're, just real lazy, essentially what you can do is just kind of leave this hair spray in and just start crunching, and that's going to give you a little bit of wave a little bit of natural wave and, of course, the longer your hair is. The more likely you're going to see a wave you've still got pretty short hair you're not going to end up with curly hair. It'S it's more for the wavy hair, so you just kind of scrunch it up a little bit and that's going to be the goal that we're shooting for us. Is this nice little scrunch look now what I like to do personally is use a little bit of product, and that gives me a little bit of hold. It gives me a little bit more volume. This stuff Hanz de Fuko, quicksand. I'Ve been using this for a while for the beach bum look now it really gives you a dry texture to your hair. So if you want something, that's a little more natural or flowing this problem product is probably not for you. It'S going to be a little more textured and crisp you're not going to be able to run your fingers through it as well, but it's a cool product. You know it lets. Can you see what this like so I'll grab? I mean I don't like using a lot of products, so I'll typically grab, maybe about that much. Hopefully it zooms in on my finger. If not it's a it's, probably a little more than the size of a dime, and then we just work it into the fingers. So that it's not there anymore and what we're going to start doing is just kind of the key to this movement. The key to wavy hair. Is this scrunching technique just scrunch, it flip over the hair scrunch some more now again, this is like you can let it air dry. If you don't want to put heat to your hair, if you put a heat to your hair on a regular basis, I kind of like to alternate with heat in my hair. I don't do it on a regular basis, kind of maybe once or twice or three times a week, I'll apply heat other times I'll. Just let it air dry and the reason you don't want to apply heat is you can start to cause damage here here, but again everything in moderation is going to be fine, don't get too worried about applying heat, and if you see some damage starting to happen, Then just tone it down a little bit, so that's just so that's the basic process for getting the product thin and then from there it's going to be a lot of the same process, but just with a hair, dryer and a diffuser. So this is how I do it now, with a better hair dryer, a little bit of Education. Here it's going to have higher wattage or higher voltage, I'm not electrician, but essentially that the better hair dryer is going to let you use a lower heat and it's going to dry your hair quicker with a cheaper hair, dryer you're, going to need a higher heat To dry, so I personally prefer a high-end hair dryer because it just saves time for me. My hair dries quicker and I just has a nicer feel, but you can get by with a lower one, but it may be causing more heat to your hair and more damage. So when using a hair, dryer always try to use the lowest heat possible to dry. The hair, so I'm going to put this on medium heat and I'm also going to put it on speed high. Let'S get the party started now, as you start to feel your hair get drier and drier. You can always use that as an opportunity to tone the heat down again, so you go from maybe high to medium to low, depending on how high or excuse me, depending on how dry your hair is get in. So keep that in mind as you dry, your hair boom-boom-boom, I mean look at us, got some cool wave texture. Hang it over it's a little wild. It'S a little untamed! It'S a little cool! It'S just! You know you got some movement in there. It'S it's not like the natural straight hole that I normally have, and you know it just kind of no, no, it's fun to do when you get your hair a little bit longer. You have more options so give this a try. You know sometimes what I'll do when I have. This is I'll, also put it up in a bun, you know, so I've got a little bit of texture in there. It'S a good time to do a bun, the buns a little. You know little hectic. How does this look yeah? Looking pretty cool, you know you just have this you've got this beach bum look going on, so it's just that you know I just hopped out of the ocean. I'Ve been sleeping on the bed, everything just kind of cool, it's floppy, it's wild, it's still moving, it's not stiff. You know you can feel the product in there. So it's not like a completely natural whole, but it's kind of like that. Beach bum, like you know, like your hair, is just a little dry, a little crispy from hopping out of the ocean, so I hope you guys enjoyed if this was helpful for you please, please I'm asking you to like this to comment on this. Connor Clark Design: I'm not gonna lie, this is the first time I've ever grown my hair out longer than like 5-6 inches and you've been such a help. It's especially hard in the in-between stages between shorter and longer hair where no matter what you do it still looks goofy. You're a great recourse for confidence boosting and getting acquainted with certain hair products for the first time. Thank you!

Dre Drexler: very great video! thanks so much!

Omar Varela: "everyone needs a good blow" couldn't agree with that sentence more

Pete Mc: Growing my hair out, along with my beard, and it's great to see a guy who isn't doing a side cut and allowing his hair to grow naturally. Thanks for some great ideas.

Samson Hailstone: Hey Eric! Love your video's dude. I've been growing my hair out for juuust about 4 months now. So far I've been able to manage through the different stages as far as styling goes, but I was curious what your thoughts were towards getting hair thinned/styled at a stylist to help ease the awkwardness. I have naturally very thick hair, even though it's dead straight. Often time's the penisy-ness is overwhelming. Anywho, keep up the rad video's man!

Sela Kunz: This is so cute! I love how wholesome this video it My husband and my son have been growing their hair out & this video was PERFECT in giving us a couple new ideas and techniques to try, Thank you God Bless

Ferrero Sparklz: This actually looks so good omg. Can't wait for my hair to be long enough to try it properly!

PomPom: Hey great tutorial man! I tried out this look the next day after seeing it. I've got much shorter hair than you, but it still got a little bit of waviness in my hair. This look is going to help me out through the awkward stages of growing my hair out. Thanks a lot for keeping making great videos!

Whocares: I used to have very long hair but it's been a while, so I decided to start growing again. This video is awesome and I love how it looks, I'll try it out when my hair is long enough!

JCBDesigns: Great video. Helps me defining how I want to continue my "long" hair style. It's kind of hard because of the corporate work I'm in and I want the long haired, undercut to the man bun.

JCBDesigns: Great video. Helps me defining how I want to continue my "long" hair style. It's kind of hard because of the corporate work I'm in and I want the long haired, undercut to the man bun.

Admiral Mortig: May use some variant of this, after a large amount of experimenting, to achieve a windblown sky pirate look for my steampunk cosplay. Thanks to the tips and tricks I've learnt from your videos my beard and hair are looking so much nicer, still working on the alterations to my diet, something I'd already been working on for medical reasons. Also still playing around with the top knot/bun a bit, trying to get an imperial look.

PizzTaker: Loving it! Inspired me to grow my hair out! Helps too we have the same hair type. Bloody good job.

Pu Yi Hsieh: I’m a hairdresser and I think you did a great job educating viewers. Your personality is very likable and not annoying. Using the diffuser was smart, guys need good dryers and products.

MvXIMILIvN: Great video man! I'm always having trouble with heat, and I was looking for a video that discussed that. Your little facts on the hairdryer truly helped me. I am going to buy a nicer one. Thanks again - Much Love ✌

JE D: Now that my hair is longer than ever due to covid - which I like! - I've been looking into sea salt sprays to style it well. You can't argue with the effect and I'm glad Beard Brand doesn't use alcohol, but I'm concerned about magnesium sulfate (aka, Epsom salts) as the second ingredient. From what I've researched, the longer-term byproduct of magnesium sulfate can be very drying, giving hair a more straw-like nature. This is because it roughs up the cuticles, which damages hair with repeated use. It's also alkaline, and can swell the hair shaft, making hair drier and brittle. I worry that I'll look great after styling, but the quality of my hair will go downhill over time. Maybe there's something I'm missing, or this is mostly meant for occasional use....I'd really appreciate your perspective on magnesium sulfate prior to making a purchase. Thanks so much!

Walter Vega: I enjoy your videos, alot of good pointers, been growing my hair and its about shoulder length now. We have the same hair texture therefore your suggestions really work for me. I definitely want to try the sea salt wavy-look...thanks for sharing...

blastrage1: I've decided to grow my hair out and I believe I'll use this method. Love all the great videos and the great beard oil. Beard on brother.

JCBDesigns: Great video. Helps me defining how I want to continue my "long" hair style. It's kind of hard because of the corporate work I'm in and I want the long haired, undercut to the man bun.

George Strong: Just tried this hairstyle and I love it! Awesome work guys, keep it up!!

Musclebrain Smartypants: Awesome. This is perfect. I've been struggling to find a way to make my hair look good. I'm definitely going to try this.

RJ Gerard: Nice video, as always. Quicksand has been my "go to" hair product for awhile now. It's not greasy or sticky. High hold + matte finish. I have used sea salt and Quicksand for extra volume and texture for the quiff hairstyle. Anyhow, great video. Beard On!

Andrea Fabbri: Thanks to you and this channel I gained a lot more confidence about my beard and my hair in general. Whenever i get mad about how my hair hold or how my beard looks, i come back on this channel and after that I feel totally good. Never stop PLEASE. Cheers from Italy

henrik199414: I started growing my hair about the same time as you as well ;D thanks to your one video where you said that you decided to let the sides grow I decided to as well :D  almost went for an undercut but Im very happy I didn't thanks to you  post more hairstyling videos like this btw !!!! very interesting to see what I can do with my longer hair

Smol Bean: My hair is naturally like this, but it looks great on you! I like the way you go step by step. You're videos are great man keep it up.

javier ortega: So I recently decided to go for it and grow my beard out. I am so glad I found your channel Thank you for all the info I've only been growing it for 2 months , I'm super anxious to see how this will go

Ben G: Great Video, very descriptive. I am currently growing out an undercut, about 5 1/2 in. on top, and about an inch on the sides. Just picked up the sea salt spray, and was looking to see how to use it. Thanks for the help! For your eating habits, have you checked out the Daniel Plan? I have had health issues, blood related ones, high cholesterol and such, but this plan is from the Bible, and is basically eat all you would normally, but it has to be real food. Anything natural. Chicken, eggs, fruits, veggies, nuts, salts. Check it out. I didn't need to lose a ton of wait or anything, but I can't believe the improvements to my overall health. Enjoy.

Alex Baron-Veale: Awesome video! So sick how you're able to change the look of your hair like that, definitely going to be trying this look out ASAP! This kind of videos are awesome keep up the good work! Ps- I am currently growing my hair out, but I'm wondering that if I do this look a lot will the sea salt spray damage my hair in any way over time?

Gray Millar: Awesome man! Showed the look to my wife and she said yes.....do it.....I'm hoping she wasn't just saying yes to you fella! Loving beardbrand vids. Big help to a beards man.

Thomas Raes: I've been growing my hair out for 2 years now, because I liked to full man bun. But honestly, the style gets boring after a while. I might cut my hair to your length so I can try this style. I don't think this style would work well with the length it is at now. It looks amazing on you! I'm planning on going short again anyways, to instead of going from long to short, I'll try this 'inbetween' step :)

Sushi Goat: Dude! Your hair is so rad man! I loved this tutorial since I'm in the ocean a lot and I love the way your gets after being in the water all day in the sun and all. I've been letting my hair grow out since last year and it's now down to my chin and it's getting really crazy, especially since my hair is really wavy and curly. I'm a competitive swimmer as well and my hair is also really frayed and dry from the chlorine so I was wondering if you had any advice on how to counter the effects of chlorine? I recently started using headbands like the ones soccer players use and it's really practical and I love how it looks. But yeah man I love your channel and I hope you can get back to me!

subatomicflame: Seeing all these awesome hair tutorials makes me wish I had longer hair!

Dan Castle: Very helpful Eric! I am just passing the awkward stage and your video is the best I've seen. Beardsmen Unite!

Turtle Not Tortoise: Just binged Outer Banks, been growing out my hair for a few months now so I might try this, hoping I can pull it off. Idk we’ll see tomorrow. Our hair types seem similar so I’m literally gonna follow this step by step and hope it turns out

Daniel Whiteman: Loving the videos dude just embarking on a hair/beard journey myself hopefully with the same results!

JB: Good stuff man. I’m growing my hair out now and it’s still pretty short. Gonna keep an eye on your channel because it’s a pretty fun topic. Thanks.

Colton Stokes: Makes me feel good that someone actually wants their hair to look like this seeing as my hair naturally looks exactly like that and it causes me all kinds of trouble

Drew Smith: Love your vids! Keep em coming... I'll be growing my beard this time next year when i get out of the Marines. Been in for 10 years... And I'll be buying your stuff! Cant wait. #awesomestuff

AJ James: You seem like a cool ass dude. Love this channel. Been a beardbrand follower for quite sometime now. I will admit I have cheated and tried other beard oils over the years and always come crawling right back with my tail tucked between my legs. Best products I have ever used.

Sebastian O.: Awesome style. Had my hair at this length last week, sadly I had to get a haircut. Wish I had seen this video earlier. oh well, c'est la vie. Cheers Eric.

james harris: Just so happens I bought myself some sea salt spray last month and 2 weeks ago my HDF Quicksand also arrived. Been doing something very similar recently. I also worn an alice band with this look.

daanfentoon: It's funny because my hair is naturally very curly, yet I still watch videos like this even though they don't apply to me. Just because I love your videos, and I watch them every single week, doesn't matter what it is.

Bradley Cox: This channel is awesome! Iv been looking for a single place to have advice for all kinds of hair and beard techniques.. Im at the beggining of the awkward stages so I like to know what to expect. Thanks!

beardedfather: Every time you come up with a new video, you outdo your previous ones.  Your beach hair goes great with your longer beard.  I like it as it is getting longer.  So, grow on sir, and keep making great videos.

Alex Horner: What's up man. Great video! My hair is exactly the same length and I have the same kind of straight hair. I've wanted to know how to get this wavy look for so long. Thank you very much.

ANU: I'm a girl and I'll admit I learned a few things from this tutorial. It was the first time I've seen a guy do a hair tutorial and it's kind of hilarious how different it was, but seems you know your market. The reason I'm commenting is that I loved the authentic ask at the end for subscribers and feedback. To the extent that I'll be referring guy friends to you. Great job!

Tomasz Sochacki: Eric... what should i say?! It was just another awesome video from You. I enjoy watching you and listening to your advices tips etc. After every video i really feel happy. Keep up the great work and..... Beard on!!!

Jamie Rae: Hey Eric, believe it or not but I'm growing my hair out to look similar to yours! And I was wondering if you could show us what hairstyles you personally use on an everyday basis. I'm asking this because this is the first time I've had hair as long as this and I don't have a clue what to do with it xD (Just as a side note, could you show styles that don't use products as I'm not able to use them) Thanks a tonne for these videos!- Jamie

Dale Gatte: I hope my hair looks as great as yours does when mine grows out. Keep up the great videos.

CMM96: just made a spray today love how it changes the hairstyle, great vid bro.

Matthew C: This is the first time I've come across your channel and let me just say I am so gateful that there is somebody out there not doing the undercut.

furry striker: It's very cool man. I use quicksand too but my hair is a lot shorter so i go for a volumised version of a sweepover. Anyway great job!

Aaron Vincent: Nice!! Can't wait for my hair to get longer so I can try this!

Chris Thomas: This looks so cool! Definitely trying this sometime!!

Sasha Talanov: Dude. I haven’t grown out my hair but mine is naturally pretty straight. I’m liking this way in advance because that’s the look I’m goin for

__soyboy__: Really like the tutorial but just a little side tip when using a blow dryer you should use a heat protectant so it doesn't damage your hair and that way you can use a blow dryer as much as you want

Nick Warren: I went to the ocean last weekend and had this happen to my hair. I was so bummed when i washed it out! I am no longer sad, thank you! haha

Haggen007: I just watched this video and now I feel lucky lol. My hair naturally looks like the final result .

Griffin McDonald: This is great! I'm definitely gonna try this out soon

Cristian Silva: Awesome video and nice progress on the hair growth!

zliukas: Sea salt sprays are really awesome, they give you alot of volume , but they make your hair very stiff . Personally , I prefer to use keratin hair spray. It keeps your hair healthy and free from frizz

Artan Gashi: Erik your videos are great and informative but for those of us with more of a curly mane could you have another beard brand curly haired brother to be in a video to see how they handle their day to day?

Lucas Pape: Great video Eric! Keep them coming!

Joe P: Dude, the beach bum look is sweet. I'm going to have to try that. Thanks!

guiga: Yo nice video! I have a mid-long hair, but it's curly, but I still might try that someday cuz it looks badass cool :)

jbbc911: how long did it take for your hair to grow back from the disconnected undercut and were there really any awkward stages while it was growing back

jonnyboyxx: I'm growing my hair out too, I'd say it was just a little longer than yours, I'll definitely try this look out!

Alan Rice: this video rocks! i was wondering how you got such dope hair. thanks for the share. love your beard oils as well --- found out about them through Tobias Van Schneider. Keep doing your thang!

Rob Youngblood: Good stuff... appreciate your sincerity and vibe. Thanks!

shashnatiq: Ive been growing it for 4 months it looks kinda stupid now but im starting to see some natural waves maybe, it reaches just the bottom of my eyes, i hope i can grow it to my mouth before summer. Man if i have wavy hair im never gonna cut it again

Marius Lauritzen: Nice vid! Do you know any method to get it more like surfer/beach hair, like this messy hair as Matt Corby has? He's got this wavy awesome hair, but he also got this "I just got out of bed" look. Not really sure how to explain it... Can't wait to get the sea salt I just ordered! Thanks a lot for this! #beardnation

2018 Student Mario Grandinetti: Some questions! If done every day will the salt damage your hair? Also, would the look last all day or would it be gone by the time I got to my 5th period class?

Gastón Gardey: hey man i remember seeing you on Shark Tank!, anyways i loved the video and I've been growing my hair out now for 4 months and I'm gonna go for that exact length of hair. Any tips to do when i keep having to use a new style every ,month cause of the length of my hair? anyway sick vid loved it.

Gilbert Medina: I was going to cut my hair... until I saw this video. I immediately changed my mind - Thank you!!!

PC LAB: my hair has the same colour as yours, but it is impossible for me to style it like that, because unlike your hair, mine is very porous, puffy, awkwardly curly, not supple at all, and extremely oily, i would love to know how to get it as healthy as your hair, thank you!

Drewzymandias: Awesome vid! How long did it take to get your hair that length?

Felix Burton: Can I do this without a blowdryer? I have VERY thick wavy/curly hair, and when I blow dry it it gets all puffy and it adds a lot of volume, and I already have a lot!

Ion Racer: Badass.. My hairs super long and wavy but gonna try this anyways!! Thank brother

Aberwrath: I was thinking about cutting my hair, which has been growing for over a year. Thank you for making me change my decision!

Vincent HC: does it look good if you use sea salt spray and moose alongside each other or do they work best just on their own as pre-stylers?

Danielle Stoor: Cool video! Great hair and beard. If you whipped your hair less aggressive the wave would be more defined and hold longer. Beard on haha love it!

Rudy: Such a healthy hair & full beard.. im new in this letting it grow journey
