Hi everyone welcome back to my channel and in today's video we are going to be talking about the most trendy, hair, color right now so often times in salon. I would get asked: what's like the trending color, what should i get done and i feel like it's always kind of been. You know, a mix of different things to kind of suit, different personalities which i love, but i do feel like this year. There is a surge of a very specific color. That'S been trending, basically what i think it is, it's more just a tone down of the colors that were previously in so basically like a contrasted balayage or kind of like brighter pops of color. It'S all about kind of muting everything down. Now, that's not to say that if you're brunette, you can't achieve this, look i'm just saying that. I think this is how the trend, kind of started and trends in clothing fashion and hair and beauty tend to kind of go with the current lifestyle. And i think, with the last year's lockdown and just more loungewear and comfortable clothing kind of coming into more of an everyday kind of wear hair as well as kind of match that so the beginning of the year. When i did a trends for the year video. I did mention these a little bit, but because they are so popular i figured i would do a dedicated video, not only kind of dissecting what it is. So you fully understand the look, but also explaining how you can get there so, whether you're starting off with brunette or starting off as a blonde, i will be sharing specific formulas that you can do to achieve this look. So i just touched on how i think this kind of look has evolved and become what it is now, but i also think it's hugely 70s influence which nobody asked. But it's my absolute favorite era and it kind of pains me when people think of the 70s. There'S this very tacky hippie super colorful era and to me i think, more muted tones really sandy long hair and again, whether brunette or blonde. It is very muted and just sandy. It'S definitely more on the warmer side, which is definitely something we touched on the beginning of the year, stating that that was a big trend this year. I still think warm colors are still making a huge impact, but it's about adding warmth to your current color and just slightly muting it down. So to me that is super 70s. So anyway, let's just get into what you're here for a breakdown of how you can achieve this look. So if you're starting off pretty solid brunette - or maybe you have a little bit of highlights or a little bit of balayage in there but for the most part, you're pretty predominantly dark, the first step would be to add a very minimal yet effective pop of baby Lights, i have a video on how to do that exactly so, i will leave a link below, but the easier part for this is that you don't have to lift your hair very much. So, even with a brunette starting point, 10 volume is all you would need, because all you're doing is really trying to lift one to two levels so doing a very light baby light with 10 volume leaving the product on your hair for about 40 to 45 minutes. With the 10 volume, this should be very minimally invasive, meaning it should cause a little to no damage on the hair. Once this is processed, it doesn't matter if it hasn't brightened up too much or if there's a ton of warmth still present. The next step is going to be the all-over toner. This is what you're going to tone. Slash stain your new baby lights with so great toner for a brunette with a light baby light would be a mixture of one ounce of 7nb shades, eq, one ounce of 8n shades eq and then mix that with two ounces of processing solution. So you'll just apply that all over the hair go ahead and massage it through your hair, making sure to evenly saturate the hair you're gon na. Let this process for about 20 minutes and then shampoo and condition your hair as usual. You should be left with this slight shimmer of a sun-kissed kind of pops of brightness to your hair while still staying brunette, and this is definitely the step that takes a little bit more work because you are lifting and then toning now moving on to the other. Starting color point, which is blonde, this step is going to be a little bit easier because you're already light so here all you're doing is trying to bring that brightness down. So all you're going to be doing is an all-over, toner and again you're going to be toning down, but also adding a little bit of warmth in so when you're starting off with blonde and you're wanting to go darker, even if it's just one to two levels. It'S always always important to add a little bit of warmth, even if you're looking to stay pretty neutral and the reason for that is because you're starting on such a bright canvas that, if you just add straight neutrals or straight ash tones you're, going to be left. Looking pretty green or even like bluish, so it's always important to add any warmth anyway. But for this look we're celebrating the warmth. So a great formulation for blondes would be one ounce of 8gi one ounce of a nine and b and mix that with two ounces of processing solution, same thing, you're just going to apply all over the hair now for blondes. If you want to create a little bit of a gradient or a little bit slightly darker look kind of at the root, what i recommend is applying first to the first one or two inches of the hair and apply just to the roots and leave the remainder Of the hair make sure that those roots process fully the full 15 to 20 minutes once that's processed, then you can take the remainder of the toner and work it through the ends. So what that's going to create is a little bit of a gradient kind of at the root, because the roots have processed a little bit longer than the rest of the hair. It'S essentially doing a very mild root, smudge with the exact same formulation and using time to give you that slight color difference and then processing the mid lengths to the ends. An additional 15 minutes, then you're able to shampoo and condition, and you should be left this beautiful, warm sandy blonde. I personally want to warm up and tone down my blonde a little bit too and if i end up doing that, of course, i'll show you guys the process. But honestly, this is one of those processes that i think is just so simple that i figured. I would just come on and share these formulas with you, instead of waiting for myself to do it first. The other amazing thing about this is that you are basically adding color or darkening the hair. It'S a semi-permanent toning gloss. What that means is say in six months, you change your mind and you want to go lighter. You can absolutely do so with very minimal effort or damage on the hair anytime. A client wants to go from light to dark. I always always recommend doing it. First, with a semi-permanent color, i always tell the client, if you're back to re-darken it, then we can revisit the idea and then go more permanent, but the fact that we have products that we can kind of play around with our hair without risking further damage later On why not take advantage of that all right guys, and that is it for this video? I wanted to keep it short sweet and to the point so that you can jump into summer with a beautiful, up-to-date, color, alright guys. I hope this video was helpful if you're looking to change up your look just a tad, but do something fun. I highly recommend you try this out as always. Thank you for clicking on my videos. Thank you for your continued support. I love you guys and i will see you back here next week with more hair, fun, bye,

Jewelz777: You always explain things perfectly. And you don't judge us on what we did wrong (us not being a professional) lol. You offer helpful tips, knowledge and tools, all while being real and honest. So, thank you love ♡

Michele Spontak: You are a very good teacher. I recently stopped box dye and started to play around a bit, using foils, bleach products and Shades EQ formulas. I am just growing into a newer ashy blonde with 09P. I am considering mixing it with Clear and 09N, with maybe a cap full of 09V. Whatever I do, I am not sure if I am ready to try warmer tones yet. Maybe later on in the year. Waiting between sessions is pretty important so as not to cause extreme damage. I am an Olaplex user, but now very interested in using a PH Bonder instead. Moving along cautiously.

Layna Sue: I loved this video! I have a question about adding the baby lights being all over brunnette. How many baby light foils would you recommend for brunettes that don’t have any balayage on the bottom? Thanks so much!

Smurf Monster: Thank you SO much for recommending the Malibu Blonde sachets. I tried them after watching you video and it’s transformed not only the colour my hair’s REALLY soft afterwards!!

SUNDIAL: I enjoy your videos, but sometimes am overwhelmed. As a "regular Jane" I would appreciate if you would list the Redken products you use (for the professionals) and the Sally equivalent for us regular folks, and as mentioned on another video; please show us pictures of everything. Thanks!

Julie Robida: At my roots, I’m now a dark 7, maybe even a 6. I used to be dark blonde (mousy color) when little and I like that beige dark blonde color with lighter around the face. I tried Madison Reed a couple times sticking with a natural dark blonde/light brown but it made my hair more orange/red than I was hopingI am in the process of ordering from eSalon for the first time so any suggestions would be welcome! Also, my hair pulls orange/reddish very easily, so I ordered some of the blue toner shampoo you suggested just in case.

Susan Crome: Following your suggestion on the video about box colours, I have just ordered some colour from esalon. I'm excited about it and hope it work out better than the L'oreal Excellence that I have been using. Fingers crossed.

Jan N: Hi, I really really appreciate your instructional videos they have given me immense confidence in colouring my own hair. I’m very grateful. I hope you don’t mind me saying that I hope you don’t get carried away with Botox and fillers though- most women aren’t as naturally beautiful as are, you are very lucky, please don’t turn your face into that same peculiar plumped up alien look that many women have these days - i personally love natural ageing (apart from hair colour!?!) and I truly don’t want to be offensive to you, at all. You are truly beautiful- please stay authentic and yourself. This is just my opinion and it might not be appreciated or shared - please insert that I am an absolute fan and seek not to upset anyone.

lisa olivia: I find your videos super informative and you do go into great detail which is very appreciated but you never talk about red heads and red formulas. I'm a level 8/9 and would love you to recommend a cool iridescent copper shade

Lala O: I've not been able to track down 8GI. Is there another combo you'd recommend? Would 9G and 8N offer a similar effect?

EnglishPlan: I’ll never thank you enough for your videos! You’re are nothing if not thorough

B Herring: I love this video, but it would be good if more hairdressers spoke about auburn/redheads and what to do. What would someone with dark auburn hair do to achieve this look!?

Danette Mannion: Hello. Love your videos. I’m not a stylist but love doing my own hair. All my friends are and they have taught me tons along with your videos. Ok here’s my question. I let my grays grow in this past year. My color is about a level 7 and the gray is sprinkled though-out like high lites . It looks like I did it on purpose. I was wondering if I could tone those grays to a dark blond or auburn with a semi permanent. Love to heard your thoughts.

Kentucky Roads: Agree…the 70’s were the best era for many things…I was lucky to grow up then.

Christina Messina: I love hour videos ! Would you please cover white and grey hair , especially those of us going white that have residual blonde ends . A good way to tone or blend it ! Semi permanent only

Ka Xiong: Hi Ella, Couple days ago I went to the salon to get my hair (solid blonde) done but I decided not to get my roots done, and leave it as a melted instead. Now I want to get my roots done, can I just go back and have the salon do it or I just wait for 4-8 weeks? Thanks

Yasmine Gh: Thank you for all the explanations, amazing video !

Shahrzad Bgh: Hi dear, thanks for the explanation. I currently did warm balayage on my dark virgin hair. As you also said my hairdresser didn’t lift my hair too much, after how many weeks from first session I can go and lighter my hair more? Because i really like to achieve ashier tone without damaging my hair. I Appreciate your suggestion

ElmiraK: Your videos are so informative. A request I have is to please leave the inspo/example photos up on the screen for a bit longer. I often have to pause the video or go back to look at the photos properly. Thanks.

megan maley: I love these videos but Shades EQ is not available to the public! I really appreciate when you provide shades/brands from Sally's or available via Amazon. Thx in advance!

Gigi Nunez: Hi! What if your hair is long (mid back), how much product do you need? Also, do you apply the toner on wet or dry hair? Thanks so much! I can’t wait to try these colors!

Abdullah Ansari: I love both of these but they look very summery to me. I am wondering what colours will trend in Autumn 2021 to Winter 2022?

danielle kremer: Agreed…most people don’t have access to the shades eq. We need Sally’s options please

*AeWyN *: Hi there! I know I am late to this game, but I have blonde balayage but with about three inches of regrow that with some gray that I am hoping to cover. I also just a few lowlights. Lastly, like many of these ladies have been saying, is there any possible way you could give a formula that is equivalent to the shades eq, but from one of the brands offered at Sally’s? Thank you so much!!

jay wellington: A VERY helpful video. Good job! This is why you have 781,000+ subscribers.

Mindy Miller: This trend started because people couldn't go to the salon. When you're trying to do your hair at home, subtle is always safer. Then it becomes a trend.

M Brand: with my hair a neutral or cool dark blonde shade isn't enough to tone my warmth. I find that a green toner works much better

Cummins Sunshine Bear: I’m blonde with dark blonde roots and I’m wanting to go light brown, almost like a Carmel color...idk...binge watching videos and going to Sally’s soon. Wish me luck!!

Yvonne Emily: Thank you for the formula explanations!

Ruth Salinas: Would this work for my hair if I’m naturally a brunette with some grown out blonde balayage? I’ve been touching up my roots because of gray hairs with dpHUE root touch up kit in medium brown and adding dpHUE Gloss+ in dark blonde afterwards to even out the tone and make it a bit warmer and less yellow. But what you’re showing here is so pretty and I would like to try it, just unsure if I can.

SayWatYouWant: Hello and thank you for always sharing your videos. What redkin shades should I use if I’m starting off with blonde but want the shade/color from the first picture?

CJ: This is a great video! I’m currently a platinum blonde allll over, should I do this with the (for blondes) instructions?

A - naturelover C: Will this work on dyed brown hair which was once brown but now in reality is 50% gray without dying…will this colour work?and if so is there a different process that needs to happen. Thanks, your videos are❤️

Kim From Arkansas: I’ve ordered shades eq toner but I can’t find a color for my roots. They’re never dark enough. I’m blonde but want my roots a brunette. Also, what kind of developer do I need to mix with shades eq? Thank you. Kim

Ashley Ayers: I need help! My ends are light blonde and my roots are a much darker blonde. I bought these shades, and I do still want my ends a bit lighter than my roots, but I don’t want to darken my roots much, just tone down the light ends. Should I color my roots first, or my ends?

N Torres: What can I do about dark roots and not messing up a beautiful blond hair color

Lynn Rose: I always learn from your videos. Thanks.

Jennifer Neff: You’re amazing. Thank you

Rap mon is Bae: Very very helpful video. Thank you.

Knutt Laarsen: Can't know how I bumped onto this. Anyway Damn good video ❤️. I also watched those rather similar from MStarTutorials and kinda wonder how you guys make these stuff. MStar Tutorials also had cool information about similiar things on his channel.

s jay: Can any of these methods be used on grey hair? I was originally brunette.

Janet Schwartz: Do you apply this on damp or dry hair?

Robin: I really never understood the ash brown trend. I feel like it looks dull boring and lifeless and rarely flatters anyone ‍♀️

Michelle Parks: What should I do with auburn hair. I would love to highlight my auburn hair.

zandeska2006: I love your videos because they are informative, thanks. Also, I also like all your sweaters/jumpers and tops. Where do you shop or buy your clothes?

sara cameron: Redken shades e q would make a lot more money if they would let everyone order their products

Robin Dusch: Thank you! Great video!

Haifa oth: I have 6n and 8n I'm gonna do that tomorrow and let you know if this works guys . Thank you for this video so informative

Carolina De La Rosa: Such a great video!

Jennifer Lerma: I love your sweater. I would love to see links of what you wear in your videos in your description

Katarzyna Fulara: I would love to see swartzkopf Igora vibrance formulas as its more available

Jacqueline Rosas: What developer did you use for the toner is it a 20 volume ? please thanks

eyecandie2004: If we are not a hair stylist where can we purchase these products?

Jenniffer Beltran: What if I am at a blonde high balayage thing (originally dark brown) but got it done in February and just retouched. Can I use a semi permanent to go back to dark just temporary? So I don’t hVe to go fully back. Got bored of the balayage but also don’t want to go back permanently dark incase I want to play with colorz

Linda Kleypas: Here’s a tip, look into fortified shampoo for fast hair growth.

lindsey Medrano: What toner do you have on your blonde now?

Maxine 1970: Please do a short hair colour video. The same problems arise with short hair but it's never demonstrated.

Lyndsie Michelle: Where did you get that sweater?! ❤️❤️❤️

Nicole Demir: if my hair is very dark and turns very orange red when bleached, what should I use to matte?it also shines very gold... Favorite products from color touch wella. everything else is difficult to get here. Thank for help

rumoret: I was 18 in 1975.....most of my peers never went to salons...less money to be spent.

Kim Noel: Where can I purchase these colors?

Iz*one_n_only: I think chunky highlights are gonna make a big comeback

Paul Keo: But 70’s were natural and not overdone.

Veronica Kerr: I use red ken 6abbut it comes out with reddish tones

Willow L: You can get professional dyes off eBay, cheers ladies

Sabine Abbad: Hello, need some advice cause eq toners are not available in my country, what's the equivalent of the 08GI and 09NB in wella toner. Many thanks ❤

Kali Gray: Has anyone tried this as a blonde ?

Coziella: I knew it kind of intuitive about stuff Like this xD

Ashley Ayers: Does anyone know how to find the reference photos she’s using? Or the names of the models at least? I would love to show the blonde version to my stylist.

cindeebindee: Can someone please help me understand shades eq what does nb mean in the standard hair colour system is it neutral blue ?

Susan Barnhart: Yeah......the 70s were gross and tacky, interior design too. Ugh. Trust me. I lived through it.

sara cameron: Can you please give us the name of the colors that we can get at Sally’s because we can’t order the brand you are saying.

perspectives: idk where to buy those products or what 10 volumn means lol

andromeda: perfect, Redken is t still the best

Lia Rvra: Like your video, but where we to buy ? Them Products or brands? N do you a have a video , showing us h.t.d.y.? Since it's hard to understand just by just talking yet not seeing,? how to great video Thank you please reply back

Moroccanluv88: 8gi Stand for ? I know G stands for gold but what does I stand for ?

E Schemmer: You look different. What have you done to your face?

Cara K: I don’t understand how to purchase these items as they are restricted to licensed professionals. Which is why i haven’t considered consultation. How is everyone following purchasing or accessing these products?
