Doot-Doot-Doot all the hair that sees in the land, I'm back with Nora, hey guys, who is her guy tan, global artist and I'm so excited, because we are gon na reiterate a video that we did a couple of years ago that everybody loved, where we burn off The color, but I feel, like we kind of forgot how sensitive haircolor is right. So when you look down here on the table, I have several different brands. This is not a brand specific video. Of course I have guy take my Denny here. Everything is toned or colored or glazed, with a demi-permanent color of several different brands. I level 9 or 10 pearl tones right. If you will, you don't want anyone to feel insulted because we're all about being fair to every brand, but what we're gon na do is show you guys how hair color responds to heat. So let me pull out my flag, okay, so I'm gon na turn this flat iron on to 455 degrees. That'S pretty hot! That'S pretty smokin! This is the extension hair and the hair is starting on a level 10 they're, all full pigments they're, all developed on dry hair 20 minutes with its dedicated developer. That way, you do see that we do follow instructions using the delicate developer that goes with each color line, all right, I'm gon na place on for five seconds. Okay, are you ready, okay, one, two, three, four: five, that is five seconds on four hundred fifty five degrees. This is with this brand. The last time I did this people go no one's gon na leave it on for five seconds right, but some people do they do, but take a look. So while we swipe it three times, oh my gosh, already the colors faded. Oh, my gosh, I am shaking this. Is the original pre lightening hair, so you can see here side by side. Even after burning the color off the hair now has become yellow. Have you ever had a client go? Why is my hair keep turning yellow every time? I come back because they curl it. They blow-dry it. When the hair is damp, you squeeze as much water out as possible to towel. Then you just kind of rub dry it with the blow jar being kind of far away from the hair till it's about. Ninety percent dry and then you don't turn it on to full highest heat for medium, and then you slowly work it through gently. I want to do it on this one, one, two, three, four, five good: it doesn't matter. What brand you use. I mean. Do you cook your steak on 400? Why would you do that? You'Re gon na burn the outside before the inside even get the chance to cook one? Oh, my gosh, okay, two and three look at that. Oh my god. It almost turns brown right if you're out of the Sun, the UV rays, it'll cook the color right off. I have clients that, like play, tennis and they're in the Sun, like for multiple hours a day and their hair just gets so brassy because it just cooks. The color off: let's try this one, one, two, three, four: five: it's not about a particular brand, it's about a colored category and I think pastels and delicate tones and Silver's, and all these colors I mean they're, just more delicate one of the things I always keep On reading on, Facebook is fat, guys, tanks rolls gold, you know its face, but no it doesn't. If you have it on low heat, it lasts a long time. Let'S talk about hot showers, so the water is on high you're shampooing it so you're literally pulling the color out when we're getting our hair wet water has a pH of 1/7, so your cuticle opens up because the natural state of hair is four point. Five to five point: five and pH so out of seven, your cuticles open up. So then the hot water comes into play. So now all your colors just come right off. Hang it right out! I just tell my clients, I don't like taking cold showers. So what I do is I clip my hair up when I want the hot water to go on my body and then, when I rinse my hair, I just kind of tilt my hair back and do a cooler temperature. We always tell our clients to go home and use purple shampoo, because their hair is turning yellow, but we don't realize their clients are actually fading their own color and then they keep on going back to get more purple shampoo. Their hair ends up getting darker and more dull, because they're actually burning yellow into their hair. I say the safest temperature Nora would be like 320 if you can or 340 at the highest. The other thing is: if your flat, irons or curling irons don't have a temperature setting that you can see the exact degrees it's best to just go low. Let'S try this one, this one's actually purl. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Every brand is a victim of heat. 1. 2 & 3 - that's not too bad! Well, the thing is and the my journey there is a little heavier xhp yeah, so that wasn't bad at all. The purl, 1. 2. 3. 4. 5 mm. All that beautiful work, guys you're working so hard to tone your clients, hair and literally everything comes off. And what do you do a lot of times? What we do as hairstyles are just as human beings. We just like to blame the product, I'm kind of curious. What it would do to to the uncolored piece, 1, 2, 3. 4. 5 mm - that is yellow. Oh my gosh, even the hair that is not colored gets burnt. Let'S test it on you, oh my god! We should. I do it I'll be okay. So now we got a t-shirt, so I'm just gon na hold the flat iron there for a good 10 seconds here. Let'S hold it down one. This is a plain white t-shirt, there's no underlying pigments. Okay and now I am going to use a curling iron on it, so when we curl here, we know we have to take a minute to wrap the hair around the curling iron, and this is from this brand right here. Okay, so take this awhile. So we have to wrap it. Oh, my god, this is 4.55. You can clearly see the hair smoking and you literally see the hair turn yo k. So now the hair is curl. Now look what happened. That was 15 seconds. I was counting in my head. So, let's try this brand. Okay, I'm gon na wrap. Take me a while to wrap and then here we go. Oh, I don't know what happened. The color just gets burn off. You know the brand sighs. I don't know you guys literally, you guys see it. Okay, so now you look what just happened? 15 seconds later, you've just destroyed two hours of hard work. Okay, so now I turn the temperature down to 340 degrees. So, let's see what happened? One two, three, four five Wow, the color is still there yep. You can still tell that any type of heat still costs subtle faded, but you can see it's not that bad right, so that was 340, so imagine 320 how you can preserve the longevity of the color right, Nora, absolutely one. Two three four five Wow it just goes to show universally. It'S not a specific color line. It'S the heat! This thing, that's the common denominator, one two, three, four, five, one, two three four five color still there boom. Let me turn this to low heat and we're gon na curl the hair. So you can see here I could leave it on longer with low heat in the amount of time. What about see people think if they put the heat low? It'S not gon na curl. The hair, it's still work, have you ever seen what a melted cortex look like. It'S disturbing like it looks like blisters. The hair is basically melted inside the core and there's no saving us there's a few options of things that they can do obviously number one. Turning the heat down on your styling tools, using color, safe shampoos and conditioners rinsing your hair with cool water, a lot of cities have really hard water and lots of minerals and that can really mess the hair up. So getting some sort of a showerhead filter or a water softening system. These things are tested in the lab with our chemists and they are made sure to work, there's so many variables of what will affect the color, and I hope you guys enjoyed this video and if you guys want to stalk me myself and Nora on Instagram I'll Leave all the links below don't forget to subscribe, thumbs up and click the bell to make sure that any time a new video I upload, you guys - will get two notification: ya notification. That'S really important! Okay, love! You guys! You

Guy Tang: Are you shooketh?! Protect your color!

2shadowcats2: Wow!! This was eye opening!! I used to set my curler at 400°!!! Never again!! Thank you so much!!! You are my HAIR GOD!! (^o^)

eppiem14: Wow,Thanks! I learned so much today about how damaging my iron and hair dryer was to my color. Seeing is definitely believing. Again thanks a million ❤

Bobbie Soales: Never thought about this before!!!! You always teach me so much!!! My hair thanks you!!!

Camille Coopersmith: I like the way guy explains how to not to put to much heat to the hair when curling or washing the hair great job guy

Ely: My friend died her hair blue, and when she went to straighten it another day, all the dye came out. It was crazy. I didnt know about this.

Anabel Garcia: As a stylist I’m guilty with burning my hair at a high temp, very eye opening and probably the most informative video I have seen in my 10+yrs as a professional

Craig Castrovinci: A few things...1. This video was fantastic! 2. Nora’s hair is gorgeous! 3. Thank you for all of the information! I’ll definitely take some of this advice!

Kris Marie: As a future hairstylist/colorist, thank you for this video. Truly changes the way you look at styling tools

Olivia Miller: I wish I learned this in beauty school. Thank you so much Guy!!!!

Anna Michigan: Omg Guy I'm picking my jaw up off the ground....Honestly how long does toner last if you use low heat and cold water..I can get my Redken Shades EQ (I'm switching to Your brand) to last a solid month...and that seems so short.....I love your videos they are always so informative♥️♥️♥️

Myra Lucas: Love this type of program from you. Teaching us about the damage of heat is eye opening. Low heat for me!

Rosa Martinez: OMG this was an eye-opener for me I won’t use my hair tools on high heat any more!!!!! Thank you love all your work

Kat Long: Fellow hair dresser here, new to the game (Got my license in July), I just got my hair colored today with a really pretty mix of 10SP and a dot of 10A with a bit of 8SP foiled in (and a shadow root with Dark Shadows and a bit of 8DL) My hair is naturally a bit wavy so I flat iron it A LOT. How low would you think I can go with my flat iron so the color doesn't fade? Thanks!

Queen Vee: I’ve done my hair purple twice and within two weeks the color faded...my stylist had no ideas of why...but I think now, I do!!! And I did just sent her this video! Thanks Guy and Nora!!!

Blend The Rainbow: Thank you for including what temperature is ok for the hair color! Last video you didn't include this you just showed it takes color away! So glad I've been using an ok temperature, I only use 300 or 320 at the most! But my hair is just wavey so that works good for me. Love you!

Erin McMahon: I love your videos! So informative! Keep up the good work hair bestie ‍♀️‍♂️

Mariya Buyuklieva: This is such an eye-opener! Thank you soo much for this video

Jade: I am so glad I saw this! I always thought hotter was better as long as you didn't burn the hair. I've definitely left burn marks on my mattress and white duvet from putting my tools down while getting ready sitting cross-legged and watching youtube videos. Lately, I've been purposely fading my Ombre with hot water washes and crappy shampoo because I found the roots too vibrant and the gradient too low on the hair. When I freshen up the lower half of my gradient I'll keep this in mind. Also no more setting my styling tools to max!!! <3

daar: can we talk about nora for a sec tho? like shes serving BAWDY (hair and )

Violet Hill: I've found in my experience that if you have a fun colour like fuchsia or violet (that last less on the hair than normal colour) and you iron the hair low heat just after the dye (obviously when the hair is already dry) it makes last the colour longer.

ShanKat: I AM SHOOKETH I knew heat styling was damaging, but no one has ever shown it so clearly! Love you guys together, so pro! #supple

Michael Ponomarenko: Guys creativity has me shook. Like how much more amazing can a human being become?! If someone says you do something wrong, don't listen. Just keep doing what your doing and you'll stay right where you are. AT THE TOP.

ReaderWithACat -: After watching your first video on this topic I started avoiding my blow dryer as I use a TON of conditioner based semi-permanent colours (La Riche Directions) in my hair. I also used to use the flat iron a lot, but that one died not shortly after and now we just don't own one anymore. I only still use a blow dryer if I shower in the evening and my hair is still wet because I dislike going to bed with wet hair more than having my colour fade.

Naomi Williams: Loving all the science here! Cosmetology is an art AND A SCIENCE :) - ♡ a fellow hair nerd

Cristin Higginbotham: If only my clients would get this through their head! Thank you Guy for this experiment!

Cookie Dough: Thank you for telling me this keep on making people’s hair beautiful

Holly Hunyor: That was eye opening! I will definitely take this into consideration with styling.

Becca’s Art and More: I never straighten my hair above 275! And I also use cool heat when blowing it out! I loved watching this video.

Maile-Lokelani Rivera: Had to come back to this video since I finally bleached and colored my hair. My hair is naturally curly and I always put my flat iron on a high setting.

Danielle Zepess: Eye-opening! Thanks, as always, for the great education! ❤

Kiara Rosebloom: Personally, I love the faded look. But when I saw the fb video you did, I got super paranoid and started checking my hair after each time I used a hot tool on it. Lucky for me, I probably use a flat iron a few times a month. But love the video, very informative!

Axton Lazaro: Thanks to the both of you! Had my answer why my hair colours fading.

Corina Esquivel: Thank you guy for doing this . I tell my clients to do all these steps and some do change the way they treat the hair and some don’t . Some people low key would blame it on me . And wouldn’t believe me . I am going to share it with my clients and maybe this will really change the way they treat the hair.

Ali Cat: -Prayers to all the dye that dyed(haha) by heat- I kinda realized this on my own thankfully. I've self taught hair coloring because I've never had the type of money to be able to get it professionally done. So when I realized I've been aging my color with heat, I nearly smacked myself. Sincerely not trying to sound like a know it all. Damn internet lol

Donna Dull: I love these videos. I obviously have high maintenance hair (yes, it's still blue and purple ombre with green streaks). I take cold showers as rarely as possible and use my flat iron on about 320 at most.

Amanda: I learn so much with each video that you post! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us!!!

T: Loving this hairstyle on you!

daar: love you guy tang youre truly an inspiration i always look forward to your uploads ❤❤❤

squit wart✨: Thank you for the info! I have super curly hair but like to straighten it frequently and every time I dye my hair, it fades super quick and we could never figure out why

lady J: Love this! I'm so glad I only use 260-280°C on my hair and that's just on occasion.. getting my hair done with your products tomorrow also..can't wait

Kasey Roberts: OMGG! I never realized how much heat faded color. Can’t wait to share this with friends and clients

Sintija Sayda: That‘s what I always preach, and still some clients don‘t listen! Thank you for re-making this, I will now show this vid at work all the time

Heather Fadden: I love you so much. Your silly things you do and say remind me exactly of how I am with my besties. I’ve been a stylist since the age of 16! And I am so glad I found you and your products. Best on the market. I’ve more to say but perhaps email? I hope one day I would be able to have my hair done by you ! As a stylist I am sure you know how hard it is to get your own hair done. Xxoo. Keep being you. I love it ! This vid is awesomeness and informative

Absynthe: Your first video was what got me not using heat tools beyond a blow dryer set on low and always moving. I tie my hair up for showers and wash it afterwards with cool water too, Girls like me gotta keep the color as long as possible

Krystal Cadieux: Wow! I'm beyond shooketh. I put mine to the highest setting (mine doesn't get to 455 that's wild) just cause I want to get my hair styled quickly but daaaaang. Thank you for the information!!

Jayden Lee: Wow this was actually really helpful. Thanks for the tips!

Madison Anderson: This opened my eyes so much to my hair color and the band of orange around my hair!

Alisa Hill: Hey there #hairbestie I absolutely love watching your tutorials!! I am currently in beauty school and I’m at 830 hrs yay!! Lol I’ve learned sooo much from you!! I have come across some pretty amazing anti-aging hair care products I would love to tell you more about them or I could even send you some full size bottles of a shampoo, conditioner and a hair masque. I value your professional opinion. Thank you for the message you share with us all? It is very powerful and uplifting when we can love and accept ourselves then in turn we can love and accept others keep the videos coming and keep spreading tha love brother ⭐️

PinkyBoicourt: This was SO informative! Wow, now I'm mad that my GHD flat iron doesn't have a temperature control...

Mariposa: This is interesting. I straighten my hair every second day (after washing it) with 200C (~392F) flat iron and both my color(Goldwell Elumen) and hair looks amazing, nothing like on this video happened to me. I am doing it for over a year now. Maybe the heat affects coloring light (blonde) hair more? I have dark brown hair colored to violet/navy blue.

Em on Google: Thanks so much for this very helpful information! And Noora... your hair is BEAUTIFUL!

Shawna Marie Smith: wow.. this is great advice about heat and color.. your always always so educating. thank you!

Giovanna Drew: Bravo you two! Education is key! Favorite part Noora, smell it”

Brittney Booqua: So eye opening. I love learning new tricks of keeping hair color last longer and be more vibrant. You should make a video how to maintain hair color last longer

MolotovSoul: This is such a helpful video. Now I know how to protect my colour.

Nikki Johnson: This was AWESOME! My problem is it would take me 4 hours to style my highly textured clients at 340°. I don't know who on earth uses 425°, I've never gone over 4, but 340°??? YOU'RE KILLING ME BOO!!

Maile-Lokelani Rivera: This helps a lot. Because I have really bushy, curly hair, and I straighten my hair every now and then. I have dyed my hair 3 times. First was when I highlighted, then I bleached my hair (it turned orange/yellow) and then I dyed it red (when my hair went back to it's original color). I dyed it red a couple of weeks ago and I recently just straightened my hair and I always have put it at 440+ degrees because of how thick my hair is. I'm not sure if going down a few will still be able to straighten enough of my hair but, I'll try.

Anime Guru: I use a heat of 200... PLEASE BE PROUD OF ME GUY TANG

LEE A: So informative it's like taking a class!

Poochie Cub: Aaaah i have pastel hair all the way to my waist and id always get frustrated touching up the colour bc the hair from my shoulders onwards is a shade or two darker than the hair on top. Over time it wouldnt take pastel colours anymore and i just had to go with a brighter pink. Watching this made so much sense bc i would curl my hair ever other day so after a few months the bottom part of my hair looked like a muddy pink. It isnt that bad but it was definitely frustrating I just bleached the bottom half of my hair to purge out the build up of colour and touched up the colour so now its a very clean pastel pink and nothing makes me happier. Thanks for this video guy ;_; I'll take care of my hair better

Fatimah: We don’t have guy tang products in my country and I used a high-quality salon colors (macadamia oil brand)if you must now and still the color fade away with heat whatever you’re saying in this video is absolutely true regardless whether you were here professional or not you should just protect hair from hate and I think that GT products are amazing and I wish we can get it

Patricia Myers: I only have high and low on my straightener...but after seeing this...low it is! I'll also look into getting a hair dryer that has the high, med and low settings, with a cool button. Now, what do you recommend for someone who has dry scalp (ive ALWAYS had this problem even before coloring) and dyes their hair? Head and shoulders works, but I'm afraid it'll pull out the color sooner than it should...:/

Zizi Flor: Interesting. I dyed my hair violet and it's still pretty vivid but then again I work nights and use heat protectant spray on my hair. I only use that because I want the style to hold and regular hairspray feels too harsh.

victoriaremmons: I have clients that come in and complain about their color washing out. This video is so helpful! I actually used your rose red color on myself and if I use heat, which I rarely do I always NEVER go above 295.

Kristenia: Nora you're hair looks incredible!!!! Last time I saw a video it was shorter and dark. You look beautiful!!

Isidora Morales: Wow, this is shocking :O And I understand so much paranormal hairtivities in my hair. Thank you Guy, greetings from Barcelona!

Pamela Merritt: Good to know because I just spent hours coloring my hair and was going to straighten it that explains alot in my previous hair colors

xoxoL0V3xoxo: Amazing video! Can you please do a similar video, but with heat protectants? It would nice to see if heat protectants actually protect hair, or see which heat protectant is better.

Beauty & Beagles: That was such a good video, my straighteners do not have a temperature option so I am probably always burning my hair. New set of irons are needed I think!!

Jess VR: Blown away....this was the best experiment! Thank you for posting!!

Jasmine Jaramillo: so i recently got my hair done at my salon (about 1 month ago) and my hairstylist bleached my hair (i have really dark asian hair) and used a toner that had some purple and grey in it and it turned out amazing. i washed it 4 days after i got it done and all of the purple completely washed out so i went back to my hairstylist to get it toned again, and after another 4 days i washed it again with a purple shampoo and the color came out again!!! HELP!!

alia: It's my dream to get my hair done by Guy Tang he's so amazing ❤❤❤

Silver: I used to have stone grey dyed hair and eventually I realised with time it was lightening significantly. I realised this was thanks to natural light, washing it frequently and using straighteners so..! Protecc yo’ colour!

Tina Andro: Can you please try this test with products that protects your hair from heat ? I really want to see the difference @.@ ... Also thank you for this video, awesome as usual :)

Polka dot Chick: Omg @guytang I had no no no idea !!! Thank you so so much I have been struggling with my hair going yellow for ever ! I flat iron on a high temp so this is probably why !

Nikki Pehm: This opened my eyes. Never again will I turn my heat tools on the highest setting.

DynamicMuffin: HOLY SHIT THANK YOU. I’ve always wondered why my hair gets so yellow and the toner doesn’t last as long as the bottle says! I take such hot showers oh no. Thank you so much!

SubversiveStyle: Wow, always informative mr. Tang, glad I use 320 on my babyliss pro, but this explains why the front of my hair would fade fastest.

amylynn starr: Guy, What do you recommend the best thing a stylist can do to fix the client's blonde extensions if they turned color from the heat of the flat iron ?

Meredith Sanderson: Thank you for such a comprehensive video!!

Kay M: Hello Guy. A question if you have the time. I had some fashion color put in at a hair school ( I know but I thought since they had supervision it would turn out ok) honestly I can't imagine why they offer the service, the colors were faded to begin with, the deep tones. I expected were blah and not true to the swatches at all. Should they have lifted my hair to an almost white rather than a buttery yellow? The effect was so bad I'm now hiding the bad color with low volume styles that don't show any underside layers. Since the colors can't be removed and only covered with DARKER colors , which they can't seem to achieve. * sigh. I had high hopes. Also: how long should they last, given that heat is bad and I would only use heat 1 or 2 times weekly.

Samaro R: Now I know why my color last so long, I don’t use any heat. My hair just does whatever it wants so I just get a good cut and it looks fine.

Gracie to the Max: I think your gonna get a tonnnnnnne of views from just me. I now bring my iPad to show all my clients this video! I can tell over and over, but for some reason seeing it makes it click! Thank you! Love from Canada!

Joselyn V: Wow, this is so informative! I never noticed or realized this! thank you

Dante Velasquez: Crazy. We use such high heat now. The uncolored pieces are still toned ash so that's why they also faded.

Eva du Jambon: Does this also apply to naturally brown hair that has been dyed with a semi permanent color? Because my hair is naturally around a level 6 and i dyed it red/violet, but i do blowdry my hair every couple of days. Love love love your videos by the way! :)

Ashley Johnson: Yes you always provide the best knowledge for us!

Yvonne Kennedy: Wow ... never thought of that b4. Ur videos are amazing. Interesting fun educational and awesome... find it kinda hard keeping my colours vibrant as I have burgundy and blonde stripes. Definitely need plenty hair protector products. Lots of love from Scotland

Jessica Grover: My god I love you!!!! People/Clients always try and look at me like I’m crazy when I say this. They have to listen if Guy Tang says it. You’re the best❤️❤️

Natasha Estrada: This is what I do to fade my hair when it comes out too bold

Andrea Vazquez: oh my freaking god . months ago i did some hidden pink hair and im so thankful i didnt ironed it bc this would have happened. and girls i stopped curling my hair years ago. i do it the old way rolling all my hair strip by strip and holding it down with bobby pin on my scalp. then i brush it if i dont want thecurls a little bit softer

vixen200008: My suggestion to this would be not to have any heating element go above a certain temperature that burns the color out of your hair good video for the people that don't get it

cassie MTOA: i love you guys together so easy to understand and see what you do GUY LOVE IT

jessica flora: I almost never use heat on my hair I have used guy tangs rose gold on my roots the last three times that I have colored I redo my roots about every 8 weeks and the only reason I redo my roots is because I have an outgrowth line it does not fade

Marie-Ange Rahir: it's impressive! I always prefered low temperatures, even with natural hair!

Crystal H: I'd like to see this done with different heat protectants to see if it makes a difference.

Haley Quinn: I rarely use a straightener anymore, but I always use the lowest or second lowest setting. I've never used a straightener that hot!

pam mcguire: Love the video Guy and Noora. And I’m sharing to my salon and home page now for all my clients to see.

Jackie Torres: I love Noora! I was debating on cutting my hair and I think not. I have natural hair passed my boobs. I think I'll just color it.
