How To Create The Perfect Gymnastic Hair Bun

In this video, we show you step-by-step how to create the perfect gymnastics competition hair bun WITHOUT using ugly hair pins and it is guaranteed to stay in place until you're ready to take it apart. After 5 seasons of gymnastics competitions, we have perfected the hair bun and figured out how to manage long and thick hair and still have a super streamlined, slick result without ugly hair pins to ruin the results (can you tell it's a pet peeve of ours?) or sewing your hair (our friends were taught to do this at their gym - it was the craziest thing I'd ever seen!).

Hi everyone: this is Alexa. She is competing at her level 6 state championship meet today. We thought it would be a great opportunity to do a hair tutorial on the perfect gymnastics bun. So, as you can see, she's got medium long, ish, hair yeah. So these are the products that you will need: let's walk through each one, a spray bottle for water, a mousse of your choice. This helps make the hair a little tackier got to be blue. This is a really strong gel that keeps everything nice and tight and then a hair spray of your choice. You will also need a fine-tooth comb. A brush we like to wet brush small black hair ties or hair ties that can't be camouflaged with your hair color. We have dark hair from Black Horse love, bobby pin and a hair scrunchie and, of course, your specific team may have different things that they want you to have in their hair. But we just use a black stretch. We'Re going to chain public, safe first step is use a spray bottle to wet the hair down, make sure you get under it to get everything, wet and you're, going to use your wet brush or your brush of choice. Just smooth everything out and put your hair up in a high pony now she's applying the mousse just enough to make the hair captain and all the hairs stay together. If you just use water as the water dries or the hair dries, you get flyaways. The mousse keeps everything intact and she's working it through all of her hair and she knows how high she need it and keep in mind your routine, because, as you do certain move or you roll on your head, it might be uncomfortable. So there's our gymnast herself we'll know the optimal position to place the bun here: she's, smoothing everything out with the client cheese cones, especially if you have a lot of hair. It just keeps everything nice and smooth. We forgot to mention that you also need hair ties. She prefers a really tight pony, so she actually uses three to put her hair up. So now she has her up in a nice high pony and she's, just smoothing it all out, and next we will split because she has so much hair. We will split her ponytail in half and do two braids on each side, so you can see we've separated her ponytail because she has such thick hair into two braids, and now I'm going to braid each side to keep all of the hair in place. If you have less hair, you just need to do one ponytail, which we used to do, but she's got way more hair now, and this just makes it so much easier to manage. So you just try and keep your braids as tight as possible, and I wet it a little bit to keep all the hairs in place. If you need to add more mousse, you may need to do that, but we don't want any flyaways. A little hair ties to finish off the braid and now it's time to do the other side and we smooth it out wet. It will stick tight, braid all the way down gon na hair tight. So your braids nice and tight we're not talking about a floppy braid, we're talking about a nice tight for you to keep all the hairs in place. This makes a big difference. Otherwise, it looks really sloppy and you're not about being sloppy cap it off with a mini hair tie and then next we're going to address all these little flyaways. That'S inevitable and Alexa has a lot of little baby hairs. We use the dot to be blue. You get about that much on your palm and it just depends on how much hair you have rub it in your hands and she smooths it. If you can see in the mirror and turn this way, she smooths it on her hair all the way around the side, all the way around the back, I'm lifting the hair, let's see how that just flips everything back and you don't have all this ugly hair Pins that a lot of people end up using all around their hair. This keeps a nice smooth finish all the way around, and it's strong enough that it keeps all the hairs in place. Now I will have to say you do have to be careful about making sure that you do a nice even coat because otherwise got to be glue and give you a white film. So don't overdo it and if you want you could use the fine-tooth comb to just smooth out the hairs all the way around your head. So everything is SuperDuper smooth. Do that you, like a nice clean, smooth, look, no hair, pin and now that we have our nice braids and everything is all smoothed out with the got to be glue. We take each section of the braid and we wrap it around the pony and then see how the ends tuck. Underneath the ponytail we take the bobby pin and we stick them in place and again, depending on how much hair you have will determine how many pins you'll need, but you'll want them in strategic places around her hair. So I did three, but this first one. Now I'm going to take this other ponytail and wrap it around the other one while pushing it down a little bit and tucking the ends under. So you don't see that and then again you take the bobby pin and you stick them in place and you push them all the way in there. Some all the way in all around more and I like to go like this and she'll, tell me where she feels so now. If you take a look, be right, there turn to the front and then turn to the sides. It looks pretty good, but now we're going to use some finishing touches so now we're going to do a finishing layer. I'Ve got to be glue just to keep everything nice and smooth. I still have some baby hair sticking out which drives us crazy. Buddy put your finger over there cuz. They pull the photos in here specifically on this idea. A little bit see no extra pins. Now that we have everything moves out, a crunchy click around it, Hair Spray of your choice. You'Ve got the perfect man. Here'S your soup, Dixie ultra-smooth, gymnastics fun, already go train and look how pretty the back of the bunny one braid, and this will stay nice and tight and will not budge thanks. Gemma Louise: This is perfect for me since I have long, thick hair and have always tried to find a good tutorial on YouTube! Thank you so much it works soooooo well!!! ❤️

ghaaastly: i am definitely using this for my upcoming meet! EDIT: my meet went amazing! It was my first ever meet and I got second place, thanks to this amazing bun!

Rebecca, Stu & The Crew: Great hairstyle. My kids are new to gymnastics ( 7 months) and new to competition level 3 team. I'm a hairdresser so I started checking out how everyone wears their hair to meets via YouTube and your video nice! Nice and neat. I wanted to share a few tricks we use. A toothbrush ( clean unused of course) great for smoothing fly aways after applying the gel. Anyone on a tighter budget, instead of got 2 b glued gel, I've used edge gel from Dollar Tree ... it's amazing! Warm it up by rubbing in your palms and smooth all those fly sways down. Mist with a little water to spread easier on thicker hair. And last idea instead of bobby pins they sell ones called spin pins. Those things are like Fort Knox. One of my girls hair bobby pins always start popping out even if I cross them. Spin pins ... life changing lol have a great day , and thanks for the tutorial I loved it! Very nicely done!

maddie carney: Thank you so much! I am SO going to be using this for my Christmas show routines! :)

Viv _: I'm a level 8 and this is a great tutorial

saskia hagendoorn: such an amazing bun very slick and neat l am going to try it!

Everything we do, we do it crazy: Thx so much for this it was so helpful

Gymnastics Edits: This is a good hairstyle for meets but in practices buns aren’t the best! But beautiful job liking this video!

Alex Van Beek: When I saw this i was like nothing is PERFECT but it is PERFECT!! Love it!! Great job! And I think I saw her at a meet!!!!!!

Yadi obergh: When i do my daughter hairs for her meets i use a hair mask as soon as she comes out the shower and i leave it in. Add mouse all over and only hair gel in the section im working with. The hair mask keeps the hair wet for longer, controls the fly aways and doesnt allow the hair to get tangle when brushed wet. I use the same mouse and gel. But also got2b hair spray. I swear her hair would hold until 2070 hahaha

Corrina: Level 6! Amazing!

Kennedi Johnson: I had the same leotard last year just different colors

HeyDay: I would say, Use a toothbrush to smoothen out the gell!

Linh Tchen: my hair is too fine for the braids to stay! is there an alternate bun/hairstyle for gymnastics competition for fine, long hair?

MagoLerio: I love it too much :-))) Happy new hair year :-))))

Michael Smith: i loved the first part

D Ttra: After all those mousses, 2 coats of hair glues, hairsprays, they still missed a tiny spot of fly-aways on the left. LOL I will stick with hairpins. Much less chemicals.

declan doran: I'm doing mine today help I'm 10 and I'm going into 12 help

luvvkaitlin: Good Luck :D

Michael Smith: what country are u from

Isabella metz: I just subscribed

Duran Hadimli: Women HAİR HAİR Nice goot goot süper love
