Ballet Bun For A Performance

A performance bun needs to be secure, sleek and clean. There should be no "fly away" or "wispy" hairs around the dancers face or from the bun.

Hi, my name is lana brooks and in this video gwen, and i are going to show you how to fix your hair into a bun for a performance to fix your hair for a bun. That'S ready for performance you'll need to gather a couple items. You'Ll need some gel and hairspray a brush rubber bands bobby pins and hair pins and some hair nets. The main difference between a bun for performance and bun for a class is the sleekness and the perfection of the bun. There should be no flyaways or bumps or any looseness everything too sleek and pull tight against the head. So after brushing your hair, you'll want to take a strong gel product. Gel usually works better than hairspray and mousse alone. Rub it through your hands and then start putting it through the hair. You want to gather up any loose pieces by the ears by the nape of the neck gathering as much as you can then take your brush and smooth out the gel again brushing and pulling until it's smooth, taut and ideally, no bumps you once you're satisfied with Your ponytail, secure with an elastic you'll, take hairspray and thoroughly spray and smooth the hair back run the brush through your ponytail one more time. If you notice, there's so much product in her hair, it almost looks wet in order to hold it into place. Then you begin to braid secure your braids at the bottom, with a second elastic once your braid is finished, you'll start to wrap your braids around the base of the ponytail, making it as flat as possible to the head, and then you begin to secure your braids At the bobby pins you you'll want to make sure you use plenty of bobby pins, so your bun does not come out on stage and at the end, you take your hairnet wrap around your bed to catch away the flyaways and you are ready for the stage You

Virginia Jett: Thanks for the advice on gel! It really helped!

kiera: I think maybe you should switch to using a donut. It creates a nice round, sleek look and a classic bun shape. Braiding the hair is a great technique for a quick throw together bun, but for a performance it looks lumpy and classic buns look much better. I highly suggest using only hair pins, unless securing fly aways, then use bobby pins. I also suggest creating a ponytail, then spray or gel the hair, finish the bun, then just in case, use hairspray again to secure it. Another tip: make sure the hair isn’t clean before doing a bun. It makes it harder to style.

Flower: That child has the patience of a saint.

o L: loved it. I Remember the first time I did my own bun it feel out ...

Emma Rice: Being a dancer myself, bobby pins fall right out! it's better if you use hair pins they keep your hair in place.

Nightmarekitty: I think you should not make a braided bun for performance, because her hair will fall out.Twisty buns are way more perfect than braided buns. This makes me worry the girl's bun will fly out because of the bun. So please don't make her a braided bun. Maybe the girl wanted braided buns, and say no.

Caitlin Donaldson: When you braid your ponytail the bun looks lumpy! I think twisting it looks smoother and neater

E K: it's a lot more effective to use a comb to smooth out the hair and not a brush. also, you don't use your fingertips and nails to work the gel into the hair; you use your palms (it gets the gel on top of the hair where you need it; you're not conditioning her hair you are putting gel in it). you don't braid the ponytail, you use hair pins, and if their hair is as slippery as this girl's hair, you should spray it with water before you put it up

Rachel P: Thanks! Can you do this with a French twist?

Hannah Q: As a professional ballerina this is how I do my buns... 1st step is to get it sleek with hair gel or hair spray and brush long baby hairs/flyaways all up, kinda how the woman in this video slekened it up. 2nd step is to get it in a tight and secure ponytail 3rd step is to spilt the ponytail into two equal pieces 4th step is to wrap one of the pieces around the top ponytail and do the same with the left over piece 5th step is to bobby pin that up *you could also do this while wrapping the ponytail* 6th step is to put a bun net on it 7th step is to take any left over hair or flyaways back with hair spray or gel i've been using this method for the past 13 years, it works perfectly. now that i teach a few classes with my mother (she owns the studio and i help out i don't really get payed but yk i do it bc shes my mom and i want to) i use that method on some of the girls when they need my help! hope this helps you all <33 **nothing i'm saying is supposed to put down what this lady did on the girls hair its just another strategy!**

Amy Vong: And the gel application was uneven so there are big lumps of gel in her hair... I would brush and put her hair up in a pony tail first, and then I would dip a toothbrush in A LITTLE bit of gel and brush it through the hair so there is a thin, EVEN layer (not the pony tail though).

Surfinsummer Vlogs: Nice job

Girl 101: I like it!

Grant Smith: What gel do you use

Amy Vong: Uhm... You kind of made her look bald on the sides by combing her hair that way.. Use a finer tooth brush, or even a toothbrush to comb it and make sure the scalp is not super visible.

Mbeepy: Weirdly, I found this a relaxing video lol.

arianna: Come on seriously? YOU DONT BRUSH THROUGH THE PONYTAIL AFTER YOU PIT IT IN!

HaHaHappyXD: I hope that bun survives. It doesn't look secure to me

Elizabeth Pittillo: I have really long and thick hair I'm lucky enough to even do a pony tail and a braid that's it

addy gomez: This bun will fall out if instead of a twist it is braided. Twisting it makes it look more clean, classical look. Which you want for your performance or recital, unless your company does this hairstyle

Jayda Annika: the does not look nice if you braid the hair it looks lumpy, what about twisting? I am very sure that it is much better!

Elena Li: Some says its ugly but i like the way that she braids her hair before she puts it into a bun but pls do it neater next time

Alessandra Mei: you have a very relaxing voice

Amy Easter: This bun is horrible! Being a professional ballerina myself, the mistakes you made were- 1)DO NOT braid the hair before putting it into the bun. The braid looks lumpy and unclassical. Swirling is much more effective 2)Too many flyaways 3)Bobby pins pop right out! Hair pins are much more useful 4)The ponytail was too lumpy. Get it as smoothe as possible 5)That bun was NOT very secure at all. While she is dancing on stage, her ponytail will become loose and floppy. This is disgusting. To be putting a video on youtube correcting others to your way, this was horrible. It was not correct. Please read this and make another video redoing it or put in the description these items.

Kennedi Roberts: Doesn't look that bad

Cameron Bishop: The ponytail looks bumpy and messy, the bun looks really unsecure

SJM: Weird bun, not even and very lopsided. Best to avoid braiding the hair before twisting it into a bun. Shocked and disappointed by the quality of some "tutorials" posted.

Cea: This is how you you do hair products with some hair on it

Iris Leason: "There should be no flyaways." What's *THAT*, then?!

Random Vids with Cara: Cool

Ryan Knight: that bun does not look good for a performance imo

The Useful Unicorn: Why do your buns always look like this? I mean your better then this! The side facing us is smooth but the other side like what how is this even possible? Nice try thought

Music 4 Dance: Now you are NOT ready for the stage

Clarke Steele: That bun dont look right. Even for class

Keisha Sol Cruz: It's called performance bun?

Linnea Young: Y’all chill with your mean comments like that’s better than most ppl can do and if you want to correct it why don’t you make your own video

Samiya Popli: The bun didn't look good for stage

Ashley Aldred: Why do braid it

FEI XU: YOU DON'T BRAID IT

謝正宏: 髮膠?好油

Esther Roos: aint a good bun. don't braid it for a performance!

Four Weirdos: I meant the people who putting rude comments it's not right

TysonKailee: I cringed so hard at all of this. ESPECIALLY WHEN SHE USED A BIG ELASTIC AT THE BOTTOM. it was just all around horrible
