Hey guys today, I'm gon na show you a really really quick and easy way to get a simple top knot kind of like a messy ballerina bun. This is my go-to look when I just don't feel like doing anything with my hair, especially since I have pretty long hair so to go through the whole process of actually making it look. Presentable can be like you know. Sometimes I'm just feeling a little too lazy to do that. I think this is a great hairstyle to wear, maybe you're wearing dangly, earrings or statement necklace or an outfit. That has a really bold pattern or print that you wants to be noticed. I'M gon na get started and show you how I do it okay, so last night I did wash and style my hair, but I think the beauty of this look is that you can pretty much do it whenever you want to um I'll. Do this when I get out of the shower and my hair is wet well, my hair's dry, when my hair is clean, when my hair is a day or two dirty. Basically, whenever you need a quick fix, oh by the way, all that I use for this is one single, solitary hair tie. If you have shorter hair, you might need to use bobby pins to get the pieces to stay up or something like that. But honestly, I don't use anything but hair tie to do this style. I don't even use a hairbrush, so I think that's actually one of the keys to getting the look. So the first thing you want to do is pull your hair all the way up. On top of your head, try to do this all getting my feathers feathers in the way, so you really want to comb it all the way to the top, and I actually like I said I don't use a brush or anything. I just finger comb it up, because I think that it looks a lot more just a lot more carefree. That way, if you comb it all back, it kind of looks too perfect a too sleek and you get more of like the librarian bun. Look. I feel like so I do like just smooth back any unsightly bumps or anything like that. But if you have a few, it's no big deal, but you really do want to pull it up to the top. Almost like a troll doll. You want to like pull it straight out to start off of it. Just so you get the height and then you can adjust where it's gon na go. I can all kinds of crazy baby hairs and flyaways don't mind that I usually like to grab on to my little ponytail. I'Ve created right at the base on my pony, so you almost want to hold it right where you would place an elastic if you're going to wear your hair in a ponytail just wan na like hold it like that, and then I'm gon na take the rest Of my hair - and I usually do this really really quickly, so it's kind of hard to explain how to do you just got ta like you'll get the hang of it after a while. I just like twist it like that and as I'm twisting it, I'm still holding it with this hand, but I'm like wrapping and twisting at the same time while holding it all together. Now some people like to tie their ponytail and then wrap like actually tie it with a tie and then wrap around the ponytail holder. I just use. I just use one and secure it at the head, so then okay, so then you should be here and you should have like a tiny little, barely anything fun. So the next thing I do is, I just grab it grab it with my hand and tie around like you, don't want to tie the very like at the very bottom, because then it's just gon na come undone. You want to save a little bit of space right there, so that there's some pieces. You know you don't want to tie it at the very bottom, almost like 99 % of the way. This isn't the cutest fun in the world. So I want to show you how I kind of adjust it and what I do is I'll actually start tugging on opposite sides, so I'll take so I'll. Take two pieces like that across from each other and tug, then it'll go then I'll. Take two more pieces that are across from each other and hug and they starts to loosen up, and you start to see that you kind of have what starts to look like a bun. Just by pulling these opposite pieces, and what that gives you is, it gives you a little bit more volume to your bun in it also, and it also gives you a little bit of the variation in the shape so that you know there's looser pieces sticking out Here, there's some pieces that are pulled tighter right here and you get more of a variation in the shape and you can just basically make it look exactly the way you want to like right here, it's a little bit too tucked in so I kind of like Pull some more out there, you can even like widen it, but actually pulling up and down that way. And then you start to get more of like a top, not looking situation, then what tends to happen usually I'll get these little spy Keys, which I actually I like that was like. I said. I think it keeps it from looking like too much like a librarian, but I just wanted to look a little bit more casual and like carefree looking so I kind of like shake it back and forth just to loosen the hair underneath yeah. I usually always do that, then I'll just go back and tighten it by pulling the center of the bun, and you can actually position this where you want it by pulling it over pulling it to the right and then retightening it by pulling the center. So the center is gon na pull it tighter to your head, and it also gives you some of these some more things like little poofy things. If you want it to be a little bit more, pull together - or you know see you have pieces like that - are just too loose kind of flopping around instead of Bobby pinning these kind of pieces, I just push them right back through the elastic just to tighten Everything up we're like this piece, that's just kind of sticking out, looking all crazy I'll, just shove that back in or just use a bobby pin. If you really want to you, know Miguel, sometimes I do that too. The one last thing I'm going to show you guys, I know I said normally and normally I don't use any bobby pins or really any styling products when I do this aside from the other normal ones that I use everyday, but I'm going to show you a Little trick that I will do sometimes because I tend to get crazy flyways like I have baby hairs and all kinds of like I get wings, because I just have these like crazy baby hairs, so a lot of times I'll take a little bit of hairspray. This is my big sexy hair spray and play a volumizing hairspray and it usually comes in an enormous giant. Can do I keep this one around for traveling and what I'll actually do is you can spray this on a column if you want to and do the same thing but I'll just usually spray a little bit like in my hand, just a very little bit. That was probably even too much and then just go like that, and it really does help smooth. You know those crazy pieces or just kind of like tames them a little bit so they're not as noticeable. I do want to mention. If you have shorter hair, you might need to pin you know bobby pin in the back just to keep some of the pieces from falling down in the back. Sometimes I'll do that as well. I hope you guys enjoyed this tutorial and try it out. Let me know what you think. Thank you guys for watching and I'll talk to you soon.

Dawn Hammond: Finally. I've been trying to get this right for years. This is the first tutorial that worked for me. I kept thinking maybe my hair or head wasn't right for it. Took me awhile to get the part where you twisted the hair, but I think that's really the key to the bun. I struggled for awhile until I realized I needed to let go of the hair except for my thumb and forefinger to twist the hair. Thanks, great tutorial!

N A: My hair is super long and crazy thick and wavy. This saved me! I had a gorgeous top knot with medium length hair and haven’t been able to duplicate it. THIS IS IT!!

kwc love: Thanks for getting right to the point in the GREAT tutorial!!

I think your kind of hair is perfect for this particular look. And your make-up looks so pretty w/ the earrings and that lip color!!

Brandie Dennis: You do have a lot to say about something "simple"... but for people like me who are NOT hair-style inclined, the details help a lot. the simple things you talk about are things that I would have no clue how to fix. ive tried to do this type of messy bun a million times and it has never worked. lol but I sat at my computer and did with my hands what you were doing (no mirror) and suddenly it worked! thanks!

christyboo7: I love this! Not a lot of fuss and pulling out all these tools to do it. Simplicity love!

Ambar Vera: I love this look. I have such long hair and have been dying to get this messy but glamorous. i just did it along with you and then looked at how it turned out and I love it so much. Thank you for this tip. any more are requested. BTW... I LOVE LOVE your make up.

KIM PEARSON: This was very helpful and easy on my daughters hair thank you!!!!!!!! :-)!!!!!!!

Kaye Carter Mature Woman Daily Dose: Fun and easy! love it!

Not a single video I’ve ever watched mentioned the crucial detail of not tying at the bottom of the bun and I think that’s why I’ve been failing. Regardless, thank you! Skylar Lightwood: My friend does this the same way but puts her hair into a high-ponytail but doesn't tie it. She then twists it around like you did and wraps it around then ties it.. but the problem with that is because i have such thick hair it weighs it down and the hair just above my neck starts falling out of the bun.... anyone else have this problem?

RachaelJohnson: ah ive watched you since your first few vids and LOVED how you would always comment back when i had a question. and NOW youre one of the ONLY girls who actually listen to the comments and give us what we want (like us asking for this video). we really appreciate you delivering what we ask for so quickly! keep it up. <3

Angel Sly: Okay so I just stumbled on to your channel and I was like wow he's pretty... Let's watch! I tried this hair tutorial out because I have never been able to do a basic messy bun. ( I know it's sad) I tried it and got it perfect on the first try!!!! Thank you sooooo much:)

ihatewinkyfaces: You have no idea how much I've been wanting to be able to do this but since I don't know anything about hair styles, I've always failed. I never tried twisting it and when I did, it worked. Thank you!

ccape8: I had to work 12 hours in the hospital ER yesterday - I did my hair like this and got so many compliments, and it stayed out of my face all day. THANKS! :)

Cricket_Chirps: This worked perfectly for me thanks soooo much!!!

Maddy V: This is the best and easiest messy bun I have tried thx!

sugardizzle: It actually works with my hair type! Yay! Thanks so much!

blkazn77: My hair is long thick and curly, but I do my topknot this way too! I don't use hair spray, though because it pretty much stays put. I use leave in conditioner before I get started to tame fly aways and make the edges of my hair look nice and tame.

soapbiaatch8: This is exactly how I do my hair!

Leah Chan: this is actually one of the first videos for messy buns that actually helped me

MakeupByAlli: they're just naturally very pointy - I even try to tame the arch a bit. I'll put that video on my to-do list :)

MakeupByAlli: Aw thank you so much love that's really sweet! I just watched your Nicole Scherzinger inspired tutorial..sooo pretty!! <3

Charlotte Dubin: Your hair looks so good when it's naturally down!

sabrina harvey: I love how you did the bun
