Hi everyone i'm jim from extra PT comm, and I have an easy hair tutorial for you guys today. Lately I have been sporting, a voluminous puffy bun and some of my blog posts and a few of you lovely ladies, have asked for a step-by-step. So today I'm going to share some of my volumizing secrets with you guys, I'm just starting out here with semi-clean hair. But to be honest, I usually reserved updos for desperate days when my hair is greasy. But there's no time to shower and you need to look presentable in about five minutes: it's even better if your hair was previously curled or wavy that way, the ends of the fun will curl and tuck in nicely and not jar out. So before we get started. Let'S look at our supplies this one. It looks like a lot just for a bun, but I want to say that I'm varying on very cheap when it comes to my hair, so took me a while before I splurged on these gadgets. I did a lot of research and I really think that these are worth it that these work and I've used them all the time. So the first thing we have here is a bump it. This looks nothing like the American bump it, so some of you may be used to those hard plastic things as Snooki loves. Those are very hard to look natural on anybody. I feel this, on the other hand, is a bump it from Japan. I learned about it from a fellow blogger channel of ala dish and what it is it's a piece of foam encased in velcro and see it's just about, maybe not even an inch thick. So I use this. I hide it in the crown of my head and the velcro is awesome. Your hair adheres to it really nicely so if you have fuzzies or flyaways over here, it gets stuck on the velcro very nicely. I use this every single time I put my hair up. Even if I don't need volume just so, I can keep my fuzzies neat. Next, we have a hair tie some bobby pins, and here we have a teasing brush. Many of you are probably familiar this, but for those who aren't oops, this is a short course bristle brush that we're going to use to back comb our hair to get some extra volume. Lastly, we have blue. Lastly, we have here some goodies spin pins. This took me a while to buy because I thought they were expensive for six or seven bucks, even though I've seen so many good reviews from other bloggers. What this is is this one screws in from the top and this other one screws in from the bottom, into your bun and they're supposed to do a job of dozen bobby pins. You can get this at any drugstore. I got mine at Walgreens or Target and it really works I'll show you guys momentarily how to use it. Now we can get started. Our first step is inserting our bump it. If you are blessed with a nice curved head or just volume of the top of your head, then please get this step. What I'm doing right now is sectioning off, maybe half an inch to an inch of hair along the front edge of my forehead. This is the hair: that's going to go over the bump it, so you want to make sure you have enough hair that will cover the surface of the velcro, but not too much, or else it won't adhere to the velcro and the rest of our hair. Up here is going to be a nice flat bed for the puppet to lie on there we go see. It sticks very snugly. Now we're just going to whip our sectioned off hair over I'm, going to press it lightly into the shape of the bumpit, and there we go. That was super fast and now we have an added inch to the crown area of our head, just use as a starting point in our voluminous ponytail. Next, I'm going to sweep my hair up into a high ponytail. You can do high-low side, whatever you please and then secure it with an elastic. So with the goody spin pins, they say you don't even need to use a hair elastic but because my hair is so PC and layered, I'm just gon na. Do it to make the ponytail extra secure, not my hair is up in this plane tale and personally my biggest issue or struggle is these whispies that, just you know, are always there and bobby pins help? They help keep them down, but they still just start flying away throughout the day. So if any of you have any suggestions, and also back here, it keeps falling down, you guys have tips or hair spread recommendations. For me, that would be much appreciated. My next step of volumizing is to add volume to the body of the ponytail itself. I'M going to flip it over and use my teething brush. So for this, I'm just gon na section off a little bit of hair at a time and two teeth you just backcomb starting at the bottom of the hair and go up a few more inches teasing, probably can't be great for your hair, because you're just back Combing it and probably breaking the hair a little bit, but hair grows back, so I'm just gon na repeat this with section after section of hair alrighty, that was the last piece and shibam look at that volume in the ponytail. This is probably what my dad would call crazy birds nest, but us woman, we call it volume and this is going to be a very nice base for our puffy bun. Next, we're going to start spinning our ponytail into a circle just like you would with any regular bun, but keep a light hand like don't spin it too tight that way, we won't lose all the volumes that we worked for just tuck in loose ends. Just keep on tucking it in underneath after you've gotten into the shape that you want press the flat against your head and we're going to start securing it with our goodies spin pins. We want to put in one from the top one from the bottom and they're not supposed to intersect. I'M just screwing this in from the top. I can feel it here with my fingers as it works its way through the entire bun, and it just came out over here. One really does kind of pretty much hold it up, but the second one will keep it extra secure and it's gon na come in through here. So here we go and we have our secured fun. You shake it, it doesn't move at all. The pins are really secure and you can now just pull out slightly. You know little pieces as you please, to make your bun extra voluminous. Also it's finishing touches. We can take our bobby pins and just pin off any crazy whispies that flew away during our ponytail process and here's the final look from the side. I hope you guys enjoyed this video again. Let me know if you have any suggestions to help tame these crazy, flyaway bliss bees. Thank you guys. So much for watching and I'll see you next time. Bye.

POPSUGAR Beauty: Great tutorial!

JoPoon: Thanks for the video and taking our requests! Love the style. I just need the bump-it now! For defrizzing, I love the Living Proof brand. It doesn't give any hair build-up or fragrance. I put a dime-penny size dallop on my hand and rub it together and then smooth it onto my ready-made pony tail styles. It works wonders to my extra thick and course Asian hair. Hope it helps!

Pinkycl0uds: This is a beautiful and elegant look! Thanks!

smiley713tree: This is amazing! I totally want to try it.

Versku: I'm obsessed with hair tutorials and this was a good one. :D Nowdays I like to put my hair up so you just told me few amazing tips.<3 Thank you!

s13rr4buf3: Hi, Great vid!  Regarding the "wispies," I think you'll find that they're the hairs which were broken by the pony tail elastic bands.  Check this by measuring the length of those hairs to the area where you put pony tails..  Try babying your hair for a few weeks by twisting your hair into a bun without using an elastic band and see if the wispies are able to grow out. Sierra

greenappledrink que: Good job on the tutorial. Easy to follow and it didn't take that long.

s: I use a toothbrush (not the one I actually use on my teeth, hem hem) and hair spray to tame the baby hair. Just spritz some spray on to the brush and gently apply in the direction you want!

Maria DeArman: Wow, I've been wondering till now on how to do this style =) Thank you =) You're awesome =)

starsets: genius! bought the bumpit (got 2 for $3.95 on ebay), it only took like 1-1.5 wks and then got the goody spin pins. it's hard finding asian girls making smart tutorials so i love having someone like you make these tutorials so i know what to expect for my coarse hair!

hew sum: I have that same problem all the time! I found that spraying a bit of hairspray on a (new) toothbrush and brush it in the direction you want it to stay really works!! :)

aznbabe9032: Great tutorial! Love ur honest and sincere personality.

gabsterr: Awesome tutorial! Do you think Marukai or Mitsuwa would have the velcro bumpit? Tip for getting baby hair to stay down: use max hold hairspray (Herbal Essences Set Me Up turquoise colored) or spray gel (Tresemmé 24 Hour Body Spray Gel) on a toothbrush to tame hair. Simply spray onto toothbrush, then brush it over the hairs to make them stay in place. :)

Eileen Wong: Love this look! I would try using some hair wax or pomade. I know that Aveda has a really awesome one.

Hope Cagle: For the flyaways you can spray a little hairspray on an unused toothbrush. Then just brush them back! I loved the video!

yennyvidivici: I am a huge fan of your blog and your style. It inspires me to be more creative, fashionable and just chic. Kudos to ya! :)

K Michelle: For flyaways, something that has really worked for me is to spray a toothbrush with hairspray and use it to gently comb the hair into place. It really works!

kneeharr: Awww, I absolutely love how down to earth your videos are. I feel like Im getting tips from a bigger sister. xD I think its because you ask for extra tips from your viewers/readers. Gotta love interaction :D Thank you for the tutorial :D

SassyBites: I need to get that Velcro bumpit! Thanks My trick for the flyaways is to use a medium hold hairspray, currently using Loreal Elnett, and spray a soft-haired tooth brush for 2 seconds and brush the flyaways into my hair. I spray the brush twice for each side of my head. Weird I know, but I read it someone and it works for me. Just remember to label that toothbrush "hairspray" :) Hope it helps!

beachbeach245: I'm definitely going to try this!!

Precious & Me: Great vid - thanks so much. Will defiinately try and get that bump-it. Totally disliked the American version, but that one looks like it would work. Thanks so much! Hugs xxx Eva

Cong Shi: Thx for sharing this video. I bought a foam bump in Japan. it actually cost even more than ebay (although orginally made in japan...) I found that it was really really useful. Everything was perfect but a little bit too high to fit my asian round face. So I cut it up and only use the inside foam hidden in my hair and found a suitable hairstyle to myself~~~

Alyssa Rose: To keep my flyaways at bay, I spray some hairspray on my hand and lightly push them back. They stay perfect all day :)

massiekurxx4: I love the bun! A suggestion for the fly aways is the John Frieda TouhUp Flyaway Tamer!

Jin DeLong: Thank you for introducing me this foam bump. I need one, too.

sushieveryday: Just found your awesome channel! And I love love love your makeup here, do you have a tutorial for this look?

Melissa Ngai: Great tutorial! You are really pretty! I just subscribed. I don't know if you still read these comments, but I do have a suggestion for keeping the wispy hair down. I don't have bobby pins lol so I use this trick. Take an old makeup brush, (I used to use a cheap wet n wild kabuki brush), make sure its clean, and spray your hairspray on it. Then brush the wispy hair into place! The brush bristles should neatly tuck the hair away while the hairspray keeps it down. It's better than using a normal hair brush because the bristles are tinier and can do the job better. Nowadays, I use a cheap synthetic eyebrow comb or something a bit stiffer to really brush the hair into place.

mstzinitah: Try using a hair clay or wax to tame those little hairs! Works for me! :)

Li Li: love your video so much and your style too, very elegant :) I saw some tips on handling those small hair that is to spray your hair spray to a powder brush and then brush those hair to the direction as desired. because spray it directly to the hair will mess up with the volum you just created. hope this helps ;) andda, ps,make more videos please ? :).

kategene: I know I'm not around much these days, but I still watch and enjoy your videos. :) I LOVE wearing buns. I actually wear one most days, and the bigger it is, the better. LOL! I hope you're doing well! xoxo

The Grandy: whoa!! you learn me a lot. I did not know that velcro bump and spin pin could exist!!! thank you :-)

katewait33: for your whispies use clear mascara! I know sounds weird but it works and its not clumpy and no bobby pins :)

Wavewatcher: For whips I find that a pea sized drop of moisturizer rubbed on my hands then smoothed over my hair gets rid of all fly aways very nicely.

SweetSista: i like your videos! and for your wispy baby hairs, i suggest light hairspray and gently comb into the rest of your hair with a tail comb (don't use a brush!) for mine, i don't like how hairspray might may it look very...stringy, so i just dip my finger into the hairspray and use my finger to kind of smooth back--stays the whole day! :)

Vivian Casido: I have those little alien antennas too. I use L'Oreal Elnette Hairspray it comes in medium to extra hold I believe -- it's a bit pricey, to me, but it's a huge aerosol & it doesn't make your hair feel sticky & stiff.

Sheila Her: love it!

xsakaiie: messy bird nest...and for us, it's called volume. LOL :P You're incredible! I love the tips and you make discovers accessories I really should have in hand!

vido343: how can you change your look so fast .. from pretty to lux just from a hair style <3

KCT C: very informative! did u use any foam/hair products on your hair for this video?

Sobia Naz: I know I am 4 years late but for the those little wispy hair pieces, I spray a lil hairspray on any tooth brush and just comb it away. Works wonders (:

MrGogis75: Hi, This video is great! Thank you so much for posting it. Where can I buy the bump?

Casandra Miska: I loved this video and the style that you teach us how to do this. If anyone can tell me, is there any kind of hair spray that is 'healthy'? I do worry about my lungs when using spray. Thanks a lot in advance!

Francis Won: For the flyaways/wispy hair CLEAR MASCARA WORKS SOOOOOOOOO well!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now that I think about it I'm sure that a mascara wand and hair gel would also work too!

Ylva Maria: You can keep those little flying pieces of hair down by having hairspray on an old powder brush, and sweep over the flyers :)

jocelynrejoyfran: What I have found as a good hair tip for flyways is to use a spoolie brush and a little Vaseline or hair pomade to keep them down and in place. Try it, it surprisingly works!

Vivian Casido: I tried this, but my bun kept falling off, coming apart, and ends up coming off in the middle of the day.. Any tips? My hair isn't as piecy, quite similar to yours... I love the way your bun has a nice flow. Mine doesn't do that either )= *SIGH

Izzy: I actually thought that those little hairs that fall out look more natural and girly and sexy looking than pining them up. Maybe its just cuz I like messy looks, your hair buns looks absolutely amazing!

latinaslovemakeup: I got the bump it on ebay... as cheap as $ 4, free shipping. I just need to wait a couple of weeks...im excited. By the way, the LORAC eyeliner is on sale on ULTA from $23 to only $ 11.50!

Christina Gerbic: Spray a toothbrush with hairspray and comb the flyaways. It really works!

a NY: Hellen cullen is right! The wavy side of the bobby pin is supposed to be facing the inside. It also helps to twist the loose end, and put the booby pin (flat part out; wavy in) in the opposite direction of the twist NOT perpendicular. I also recommend BIG, SEXY HAIR hairspray. The only one that stays on all day and does not have that weird hard crispy feeling like dove. (I wear it when I run too and it always stays perfectly in shape without the crisp)

KinaG86: Where did you find your double and triple strand pearls! Love your style, btw. Your tips are relevant for professional women of all heights.

heatherlovebug1: this is my first vid watching you and your just so classy I had to subscribe! <3

doowopshopgal: I heard of you from Wendy's lookbook, how unique you both are, a breath of fresh air!stay well

xXStillDOLL: I think I might get the Japanese bumpit! It looks so natural. I've seen girls wear the American bumpit and it just makes them look like an alien ....

hermione9713: I tried the velcro bump but I find that I have to yank it out of my hair. Is there any easier way to take it out? I feel like I'm doing so much damage to my hair :(

frances lakatoo: I think your flyways look cute :) I recently discovered your youtube channel. I love it!

lifesabeach3100: something that may help your flyaways is spraying a toothbrush with hairspray and then combing the hairs back :)

ThatHyderabadiGirl: It gets stuck on your hair so be careful. It is after all made of the coarse side of Velcro so if you're not careful, it'll yank a lot of hair out. Used it once it's ok. I have Asian hair so it's perfect as it just blends. These would work great for someone with thicker hair but for me the sides just poked straight through my hair. read these reviews on amazon :(((( since i have thin hair I am very concerned

adriana papa: Great videos :) Anyone ideas for blond velcro pads? thank u!

Dallas Sigmas: Hi I'm getting my hair cut soon and I was wondering what to call your style of hair cut :) Thank you! I love your style and your videos! :)

Sinja K: do you have a hard time taking the goody spin pin out? Does it pull out your hair?

123lunabella: hi can you use the japanese bump it for volume w/ the hair down? if you were to clip it does it get hidden and stay in your hair when its down without having to put your hair into a pony tail?

Michelle Crouse: i prefer mini bobby pins tp regular ones, I find they hold smaller pieces of hair more securely

kawaiikaox3: I feel like if you spray hairspray directly on the wispy pieces, it hardens and looks too done up, so I spray the hairspray in my hand and then smooth over the wispies with my sprayed fingers :) I like to use bed head hairspray :)

Béatrice Christelle: You could use gel or hair wax :)

Mihaylova2: When you pun your bobby pins on the "flying objects" spray some hairspray and then remove the bobby pins, it looks very natural, because I have the same problem as you. Thaks for the tutorials ;) very usefull

EP Style: @205marshmallow if you have long hair, you can ask for long layers (so no layers that are shorter than shoulder-length), and have your hairdresser use a razor to thin out the bottom.

EP Style: @MultiNicolelove1 THanks! I ask for long layers and for him to thin it out (my hair is coarse and thick). It's not naturally waved. I dry it while in a bun so the ends get curled.

Francesca Joseph: Spray some holding hair spray onto a clean toothbrush or your teasing brush then brush back the fly sways :) hope it helps

pipiwaem34: nice video! love it! but I feel a little bit wispy helps you loook a bit younger and fresh/natural! I like the final look though ;)

doxie: Jean, just wondering whether you curled your hair or is it natural this way?

px L: Hi Jean! I'm your big fan from Taiwan. Love your videos and blog. I know you said your first language is Mandarin Chinese, would you do a video in Mandarin in Taiwan? Thank you!

wyowin: you probably already tried this, but I'm going to suggest anyway: for the little hairs that fall out, you can spray them with hairspray BEFORE you comb or slit the hairs to your head. maybe it helps!

cookiesososo: Usually i just spray a lilttle hairspay on the thin comb the one with a long tail. and then just gently comb the hair. hope it helps you.

azurerain9: I love your nail polish! What colour/brand is it? :)

tanya671994: how do you get the bump-it thing out?

KevynAidan06: for your wispies....you can apply just a light spritz of any hair spay. Then, use the backcoming brush to brush those wispies into place. The brushes with high concentration of bristles allows you to blend the smaller, less controlable, hairs into place.

Letícia Kuniyoshi: *-* that looks so cute ^^

Aisha R: Thx, just ordered the bump on ebay :) Can't wait to try is... Btw, any1 who can recommend other great hair accessories on ebay??

Ryoko T: you are so lovely!! good job!!

littlecowconspiracy: to control the flyaways you can spray hairspray onto a toothbrush and then brush the flyaways back onto your head! Use a clean toothbrush of course =P

tifunny918: oh yea for the wispys, try using a toothbrush( dedicated just for your hair) and some hairspray. I use that for my baby hairs, and it really works.

ThatHyderabadiGirl: hi! i heard a lot of reviews that removing the vecro bump is realy painful and a lot f hair is broken while removing it. how far is it true?

Dallas Sigmas: @extrapetiteblog thank you so much! :)

justmylife2222: The manipulater styling putty from bed head works to stick the whispies down

Alannah Le: What size is the bumpit you're using?

EP Style: @xxxcantt0uchthis Those Japanese markets do have the velcro bumpit, but it's much pricier than ordering on eBay. Some readers said they just ordered for about $4.99 including shipping. The downside is you have to wait 2-3 weeks for it to arrive, versus at Mitsuwa you can have it instantly.

youtubename: you are so sweet! thanks for the great tips!

GuGu: that bumpit is cool. where did you get it from?

EP Style: @julayyx33 Hi there - make sure to get the ones where the entire thing is velcro, not just the one strip. Mine came in a pack of two - one big, one small, and I'm using the small one here. The big one is too big for me. I'm wearing lashes from Model 21 - they do a bad job of labeling the style # but I think these are #7 or #8.

latinaslovemakeup: i love your top! where did you get it? xoxo

carmz916: You can check out Osis Stick Up Hard Wax or the Kao Liese Clear Cube Wax to help keep the fly-aways in place :)

Mi Nguyen: Your concerns about whispy hair and back hair. You can use hair spray to keep them down or any sort of hair thingys xD For the back hair, flip all your hair forward and comb it and then tie your hair (and then hair spray if needed). This helps me :o I hope it helps you too c:

Kimmy C: You look so elegant :)

Claudia: thanks for the tip with the velcro bump *.*

EP Style: @tifunny918 For regular wear - get the smaller size! For reference, mine is 4 inches long by 3 inches wide.

Kathleen Tu: I love your shirt! its so cute! :)

G Ziegler: Spray your fingers with hairspray then while the hairspray is still wet just smooth the pieces down with your fingers.

Carmen M: Use sculpting/molding paste!

EP Style: @litolragdoll search for "foam bump" on eBay. Most if not all of them are from Asia so shipping may take a few weeks!
