Well, hey guys in today's video i'm going to be talking all about how hair care products can lead to acne breakouts and i'm going to be reviewing a hair care brand designed by dermatologists for people with acne prone skin. If you are new here, welcome, my name is andrea, i'm a board-certified dermatologist and i would love it if you would subscribe to my youtube channel and hit the thumbs up. It really helps my videos out a lot now the brand i'm going to be reviewing in today's video has been highly requested, and that is scene, but i wanted to draw your attention the fact that this brand is currently 25 off at skinstore.com. Today'S video is in partnership with skinstore.com, you guys know, i'm a huge fan of their website for buying skincare products, as well as hair care products and they're, currently having an amazing sale, but they gave me a discount code, dr dre 10., if you use that code At checkout, you will get an additional 10 off these hair care products, which are already on sale, 25 percent off now. As part of this partnership. They let me choose to talk about whatever products i wanted to in the sale, but given that you guys have been asking for a review on seeing hair care, i thought what better time to talk about them than when you guys can get them at a discounted Rate, so i will have all the links to these products at skinstore.com down below in the description box, as well as that discount code. So you can save an additional 10 off hair care products can definitely break you out classically. This has always been referred to as pomade acne, because it was seen in people who use really greasy pomades in their hair, but it truthfully can happen with any type of hair care product, including shampoos conditioners, as well as a variety of styling products. You most often will see this happen on your forehead. The sides of your face anywhere, where your hair touches your skin for a prolonged period of time. A lot of people, especially those with longer hair, will also get pomade acne on their back or their shoulders, where their hair touches. Now, when it comes to products that contribute to skin problems, typically things that are rinsed off are less risky, however shampoos and conditioners, they definitely have prolonged contact with the skin and they can actually form a film on the skin, if not rinsed off in total, and That is something that can lead to acne flares in some people, and products in particular that are more problematic, are those that have a lot of plant oils. Coconut oil in particular. Some people are exquisitely sensitive to coconut oil, and coconut oil based shampoos and conditioners can definitely be a contributing factor in flares of acne. Of course, it's not as straightforward as analyzing an ingredient list, but if you find that using products that have coconut oil or maybe other oils like argan oil, aggravates your acne, then definitely pay attention and avoid those ingredients. If you are like me, and you live somewhere with hard water, then your shampoo can interact with the minerals and the hard water and form a film on the skin. That'S basically a type of soap, scum. It can make your skin very dry and itchy, and it can lead to lead to acne like breakouts. It also can cause a lot of problems in your scalp. Obviously, that's where the bulk of the shampoo is going to be going, and so if any type of film is left behind on the scalp, it can contribute to itch that residue can cause, what's called a folliculitis, basically little itchy pimple-like bumps in the scalp, and so That is something that people don't often realize and bars. Shampoo bars, they're, really popular now, because obviously less packaging, but that is definitely a downside of them, is that they can form film a film on the skin and that can lead to these acting like breakouts. Not to mention that film can leave your hair very unmanageable and prone to tangling. I shared this over on my instagram recently, but a lot of people are super enthusiastic about using castile soap in their hair, and i definitely discourage that castile soap like dr bronner's is a typical soap. It'S not a synthetic detergent and, as a result, it is very prone to making soap, scum and so can really leave your hair very unmanageable and definitely can form that film on the skin that leads to leads to acne. Then, of course you have your styling products. If you use pomades or hair oils, these can transfer onto the skin and can, with prolonged contact with the skin, cause some irritation that drives the formation of closed coming down. Aka pomade acne, especially if you have hair that touches your face and is in contact with your face a lot. So a tip is, if you have a particular styling product, that's very heavy, very greasy, but you really like the way that it helps your hair. Be more manageable or look better or whatever then try and cut down on having your hair touch your skin after you shampoo and condition your hair and everything is rinsed out, then you want to go ahead and wash your face and your body as opposed to a Lot of times you get in the shower and you wash first and then you shampoo your hair and you don't get a chance to remove that residue with your face or body wash and if you're somebody who likes to not shampoo your hair, that frequently your own Oils from your scalp can aggravate acne, i mean they are the source of acne uh, so any of that oil that might end up transferring to your forehead um the neck can definitely aggravate acne. So i know the no poo method is really popular, but it aggravates acne and it aggravates dandruff and then many hair care products may have a dye red dyes left behind on the skin, actually can aggravate acne. So if you imagine that your shampoo may be leaving behind a residue, especially if you live somewhere, where there's hard water and the shampoo has a dye in it, that can definitely contribute to acne like breakouts, because those many of those red dyes are particularly very irritating Around the hair follicle, but let's talk about seeing hair care. This is a hair care brand actually designed by a dermatologist with patients in mind who deal with acne breakouts related to their hair care products. So they have shampoo and conditioner, and what i love first and foremost, is that they have the option of all their products. You can get free of fragrance fragrance is something that doesn't necessarily aggravate acne, but can cause a lot of irritation. So they have a shampoo and conditioner that is free of fragrance and they also have a shampoo and conditioner that has a scent to it. If you like scent in your products and admittedly you guys know, i really like a scented shampoo, and these do smell. Really. Nice, so the scented ones just have a little bit of a pink label, whereas the fragrance free ones clearly stayed on the bottle fragrance free, but otherwise the ingredients are the same. Now the shampoo is formulated with sodium lauryl methyl isothionate. This is a very mild surfactant that offers gentle cleansing. It foams. Well, so you get a nice lather with this shampoo, but what i like the most about that particular surfactant in shampoos, is that it rinses off easily. The shampoo is also sulfate free now, sulfates are not necessarily bad ingredients, they actually offer very intense cleansing, but they can be drying and that can cause irritation for some people now, they're, not typically an ingredient that leads to acne. But if you have acne prone skin and you're, using really harsh surfactants that can dry out the skin cause irritation and that ultimately downstream does contribute to worsening of the acne. So the shampoos are free of sulfates they're. Also, all their hair care products are also free of silicones. Now silicones are wonderful in that they lubricate the hair. They impart shine, they improve manageability, but they can lead to a buildup and potentially a build up on the skin. If the shampoo leaves a residue behind and that buildup too could contribute to to acne-like breakouts, so these are free of silicones. Although i want to emphasize that both silicones and sulfates they're, not demon ingredients, they're, not you know a complete no-go, but for some people they could be contributory to acne-like flares related to shampoos and conditioners. So these are free of that and i really enjoy these products. The shampoo, like, i said, offers a nice lather and i love the scent on the scented ones. But i do really appreciate that you can get these free of fragrance because, as i've said, many people develop allergies to fragrance and then they have to avoid. It can be difficult to find hair care products, let alone hair care products that are formulated to not be, as you know, problematic when it comes to acne. So the shampoo is a great one and then the conditioner will help to neutralize the charge left behind from shampooing. That is something that happens when we shampoo we, the shampoo ends up with leaving the strands charged and that's why you get static and the hair is more prone to being tangled. So the whole point of conditioning is to kind of neutralize that, as well as to deposit things behind that coat, the hair make it more manageable and smoother shinier and overall, healthier less likely to experience frizz. So the conditioner is wonderful and it doesn't have any heavy butters or waxes that could leave behind if residue is left behind, would otherwise potentially be problematic in clogging pores and aggravating acne. The other thing i really love about these is that they're, free of a common preservative allergen methyl isothiazolinone, which is in a lot of shampoos and conditioners, and many people develop an allergy to that and they get rashes around their hairline and their eyelids. The sides of the neck, not acne, by rashes, it's called a contact dermatitis, so these products are free of that particular preservative. Instead, they have phenoxyethanol, which is a wonderful preservative that is less far less likely to cause skin problems in comparison to in comparison to muscle, methyl isothiolinones. The conditioner also has hemi squalane in it, which imparts shine to the hair and is very lightweight and doesn't leave behind a residue. The shampoo and conditioner are safe for color treated hair. If you do keratin treatments on your hair, it's safe for that as well, and i just want to show you the subtle difference on the packaging here of the scented one. So if you're like me - and you like a scent - i think you will enjoy these because it's a nice fresh, scent kind of similar to salon shampoos. You know when you get your hair shampooed in a salon when you get your hair cut that whatever the shampoos they use, they always seem to have such a nice scent, and it can be hard to find a shampoo that reproduces that these really have that nice Salon quality scent to them. Many of you use heat styling for your hair. I understand why it makes the hair look better more manageable, but your hair strands do end up suffering a lot from the heat, and so it may behoove you to use a heat protectant and seen has a blowout cream. That, i think, would be a great choice. I have it again free of fragrance and then one with that same scent that i enjoy now. These products protect the the hair strands from heat, but they don't have those heavy waxes that could transfer onto your skin form a film and aggravate acne. They have hemispoiling in them, which is going to help reduce frizz, and it's going to help the hair be more manageable and it's going to help cut down on tangles, and it also leaves the hair very glossy. The way to use these is to apply just a dime to a quarter size to damp hair. You want to actually carry it from root to tip that way, you're making sure to protect the entire strand from the heat. Do that and then heat style, your hair, you will find that the hair is a lot more manageable, using a product like this and long term. It can help in cutting down on frizz and hair breakage. If you heat style your hair. I strongly strongly encourage you to use some kind of a heat protectant and it actually can be challenging to find heat protectants that are free of fragrance, let alone not super greasy or heavy. If you have curly hair, you may enjoy using a curl cream to enhance your curl pattern and to help your curls be more manageable, similar to heat, protectants and other styling products, though the curl creams are often a culprit when it comes to acne like breakouts or Acne breakouts um because they have heavier ingredients, things like olive oil, heavy waxes that can leave a film on the skin and contribute to those breakouts. So if you have curly hair and you're looking for a good curl cream scene, has you covered again free of fragrance or one with that same great scent? These differ from the blowout cream and that, like the conditioners, they have the shea butter settle esters that help reduce frizz and help impart shine. Additionally, along with that, hemi squalene, so really good ingredients that aren't going to leave behind a residue on the skin and aggravate acne, and these are great too, if you um like to use a leave-in conditioner. That is, i actually, i don't have curly hair, but i do like to use leave-in conditioners on my ends and i really enjoyed these they're quite good, so i highly recommend them if you are in the market for a curl cream that is free of common aggravating Ingredients, so those are the products uh. They are all free of dyes, they're, vegan, cruelty, free and safe for color treated hair. I think they're really good they're a really good option and i'm glad to have had the opportunity to review them today, since there are on sale at skinstore.com, so definitely check that out and again, don't forget to use my discount code if you are in the market To try these out, i think you guys will really enjoy them. Hopefully, this review was helpful to you all comment below and if you have tried these, what your experience with them was, if you like them, let me know, but if you like, this video, give it a thumbs up share with your friends and, as always, don't forget. Sunscreen and subscribe i'll talk to you guys tomorrow, bye, you

King King: We Stan a queen who looks out for our skin and our bank accounts

Dean Skibinski: So glad to see a positive review of SEEN here; I switched to their fragrance-free shampoo and conditioner from Vanicream over a year ago and my hair (and scalp) have never been in better condition. Love SEEN. Thanks, Dr Dray and happy holiday weekend to you!

Paula Gurney: Nothing to do with today’s topic but just when you think your husband of 41 years doesn’t pay attention to things your doing. Watching T.V. last night a commercial comes on for a face cleaning device, husband says “Dr. Dray would be appalled”

Allison Link: I have been using SEEN for years and it's definitely made a difference in my skin. It's really nice on my hair and I find the conditioner and blowout cream really work well! You can also get them at Ulta now.

katydid5088: I haven't tried it but my sister has. In her opinion, T-sal shampoo works better. A conditioner with silicones worked better for her, as well as using a shower cap during her conditioning treatment. Honestly, what I think was the clincher in helping cut down her acne around the scalp.

Sherry Hilliard: I started using these about six months ago and I love them. My scalp loves them. The regular conditioner isn't that conditioning - but I'm going to try the new deeper conditioner soon...

C U: Finally! I was looking for hair care products without fragrance.

Teresa: Currently using the entire line and thankful that they are available fragrance-free! I like things that smell pretty just as much as the next gal, but for whatever reason (a personal curse? ha ha!), my skin is much more tolerant of fragrance-free products. And the curly cream? Ohmygoodness! Y’all! Can you hear the angels singing?!? Pretty sure I can hear them singing when I apply the curly cream to my hair. Or maybe not… but my curls love this stuff. It’s fabulous! YAY! Thanks, as always, for helpful information!

Rella Haire: A fragrance free curl crepe? I can’t wait to try it! Finding fragrance free products for wavy/curly hair is very difficult, and the few that I’ve found usually don’t work very well. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Anni: So happy you talked about this! SEEN is the best!!! Completely helped clear my forehead acne and majorly helped with my backne. Highly recommend everyone to try it!

Yuzu: Is there any scientific explanation for why adult acne is more prevalent in this generation compared to previous ones?

Sal Ponce: I’ve tried the curly cream & it does leave my hair super soft. I also ordered the shampoo but am currently finishing up another one before I use it. Hope it works!

Miranda Fox: I gave them a try recently by ordering the trial size. They actually messed up my order and customer service was one of the best experiences I've had and sent me a free full size product for the inconvenience. But I do enjoy the products and will be ordering with your discount! I wasn't expecting to like the fragrance because I hate a lot of events but this is my favorite scent! Even my husband commented on how nice my hair smelled!

Pujikie: I am So pleased that I found your channel. You report things so well with medical back up and your recommendations have changed my skin care routine tremendously! People always compliment my skin and I have you to thank for that! I am a clinician and medical researcher and I love how you present your results without bias. I am always recommending your channel. I hope your subscriber numbers shoot through the roof! You deserve it!

Carolina: I tried these a while back and I saw no difference in the acne on / around my hairline and I really didn’t like them as a shampoo/conditioner themselves. I recommend just sticking to drugstore and saving your money

Andrea E: I asked about this brand a couple months ago! Yay!!! Thank you for this video, Dr. Dray

Sophie Meyers: I’ve been using SEEN for the past year and have been loving it! No more pimples on my forehead and it leaves my hair soft!! Defs would recommend

Annie: I LOVE THIS BRAND. Phenomenal for my curly hair.

Morgan Pritchard: I just got my shampoo in the mail yesterday so TBD but the blowout creme is one I love! I always know something is up when I start getting pimples on my cheeks, outer face, etc. Love the brand!

Will: I’ve tried it. I loved the shampoo but the conditioner was too light for me. Maybe I’ll try the one for curly hair. Thanks, Dr. Dray.

Rosemary Burford: Thank you, Dr. Dray, for this great recommendation. I just ordered the Seen shampoo and conditioner because I do have problems with breakouts along my hair line. ❤️

VE Tsai: When we lived in an apartment for three months, we were in an area with very hard water—which IMMEDIATELY caused eczema on my face and scalp, as well as backne. I went to a hardware store and bought a shower head that contained a filter for hard water. It filtered out all of the minerals that made the water hard, such as calcium, magnesium, iron, etc. Cost less than $30, and cured all my skin problems within 5 days—and saved me a trip to the doctor!

Mary Lawman: Even though I don't have this issue, I still enjoyed the information. Happy Friday, Dr Dray! Hope you, your sweet momma and little Tybee have a fabulous weekend!!

Lori Serpico: I used these for myself and my 6 year old daughter, really enjoyed all of their products! Highly recommend;)

kate: Dear Dr. Dray, recently I found in one of mine hair care treatments an ingridient called BHT (It was third ingridient on the list) Is it harmful? P. S. Thank you for your videos, I appriciate them a lot! Have a nice day! ❤️

Cat Rice: Thanks for this! I find whenever i dont use conditioner on before body wash my back shoulders and the back of my arms get this horrible itchy rash so i was thinking about checking this out

Viridiana Avila: Love this brand, I'm glad you were able to review their products.

Cat Joseph: Love SEEN. I switched to their fragrance free line. No more dry itchy scalp.

Tess Meyers: I love my SEEN so much!! I will never use anything else. Total game changer!!

Simple by Sarah Vo: Yay early for once! HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE! ❤ Super excited for this because I hate those random breakouts on my scalp

Melissa Kessler: I absolutely break out from hair products, mostly around the back of my neck and upper back/shoulders. This brand sounds very interesting!!!

John Nabung: Dr. Dray is always on point! Hope you have a great weekend!

Somayeh Moballeghi: Dr Dray, could you do a similar hair care video for rosacea prone skin? The struggle is real with rosacea

Marley: Hi Dr. Dray. My son has very itchy heat rash around his neck and jaw from wearing a mask at camp and sweating. His doctor recommended calamine lotion but it is full of fragrance and essential oils. What do you recommend to soothe the itch?

Nicole on EQ: I never used to care what went on my head but definitely on my face. This is changing my whole perspective

Susan Block: Thank you so much, dear Dr. Dray! I have been anticipating your review for SEEN. Happy weekend! ❤️

Lindsay McDougall: Darn, I wish I had seen this when it was published just recently. Looking to try SEEN's fragrance free shampoo and conditioner. It's just sooo expensive!

Stoned Cat: Have you spoken of nexus before? I’ve seen they have a “pure and clean” line (whatever they think that means lol) and am curious as to what ingredients are good or bad

stregadisalem: Yay! I requested this review. Thank you!

Nichole Mcpherson: Hope you are having a wonderful day Dr. Dray!! You are what i look forward to every morning!

Sharon Nytte: Hey Dr Gray, I follow you religiously from Norway. Possible to review similar products found in Europe? My scalp will thank you . My skin has been glowing because of your advice for two months now

Kasia K: Omg I got these in a fab fit fun box and it is the best shampoo/conditioner set I’ve ever used and I’ve gone through hundreds, not exaggerating, they make ur hair sooo smooth and manageable, I don’t know how more people aren’t talking about them.

BLiNGyourALARMclock: Please try these if you struggle with painful bumps on the hairline, nape of neck, scalp, etc! I have had such amazing results and I’ll never use another haircare brand ever again!

Kathy Houston: Happy Friday!! I have what I thought was acne on my scalp. What should I use for these painful bumps? Thanks for the video!!

J H: Could you do a video about the new skincare pills on the market? Like Flo, Skin Discipline, Halo Kiwi Skin Booster etc.? Mostly regarding to helping acne

Meredith Narváez: Happy Friday!!! Dr. Dray, how do I know when I can mix sunscreens, if the ingredients can’t mix or anything? I’ve been mixing two chemical ones spf50 ‘cause I don’t want to buy more and make any waste.

Uncle Charlie: If the amount of hair I have induces acne breakouts might as well write me off! ‍ There are always new things introduced on this channel! Great job Dray have a awesome weekend! ☕️‍♀️⭐️

Ryskhell Milano: Hi Dr. Dray! How about persistent acne on scalp? What products do you recommend?

Asit Das: Hello Dr Dray! Do you recommend love beauty and Planet coconut volumising shampoo.. living in India we don't have access to the products that you mention. Please review the aforementioned shampoo love and best wishes to you

Maggie Liu: Dr Dray, would you please review Suave Kids 3 in 1 Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Wash Fragrance-Free for Sensitive Skin (green bottle with pandas on it)? I think it's affordable for your viewers on a budget ($5 for 20oz at Walmart) in comparison to other fragrance-free shampoos but no one seems to talk about it. My brother and I like it as an everyday gentle shampoo (he doesn't need a separate conditioner afterwards but I do). I've also used it as a face/body wash and have not suffered breakouts from it on my acne-prone sensitive skin.

Nada B: In the '80s we occassionally got irritated eyes from having too much gunk in our long teased fringes....and too many late/sleeplesss nights from going to smoke filled nightclubs!!! Whilst not in the medical journals, I remember we dubbed this condition "New Romantics' Eye". ‍♀️❤

Caffeine high: The seen conditioner did nothing for my hair, felt more like a moisturizer.

Alex Ellis: Yay I’ve been wondering when you’d review this brand !

Pamela Smith: I tried the entire line including the curl cream. My fine wavy hair did not like. Became static-y, fly-away, and lost the wave.

louiegraphy • skincare with louie: What are your thoughts about minoxidil 5% for the hair?

Grasya Lby: Hi dr. Dray, Does adapalene get rid of small warts on face?

Caitlyn Perry: Would you recommend this to someone who has a Blasam of Peru allergy? I have that allergy and I do find it very hard to find a shampoo and conditioner

no mi: The moment you realize that your newly acquired backne and chestne is from your hair regime!! I had no idea. Umm.. yeah. I’m switching.

Barbie Blue: Dr Dray, you accomplish so much! Every day, something new tomorrow, we are back to cool weather for a short time We are competing with Houston for humidity, in 70%, 80 + % range ...but tomorrow's high only 67 degrees, low 60 degrees...fingers crossed for great weather on the Fourth

Elin: But the shampoo contains Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride which is a ingredient that easily builds up on the hair, right?

Jessica H: Are these products good for dry hair or are they drying?

Pari jyotishi: Dr. Dray thank you for this video but I was too late the shampoo & conditioner is sold out :-(

Banana: Is it true conditioner applied to roots loosens hair and causes fallout?

Positively Andrea: I was actually kinda afraid of using Skinstore, I’ve read a lot about it and I wasn’t sure if it was 100 percent reliable or even legit. I may have to try them if Dray is doing some sponsorships. It wouldn’t be the first time I was wrong

Jackie Marsh: Happy Friday Dr.Dray!! Have a Wonderful Day!! You Look Gorgeous in That Colour of Pink!! Loved This Video!! Love and Hugs!! Always!! Xoxoxo

Cynthia: Yay, just purchased the fragrance-free shampoo and conditioner! There goes my money Thanks for the recommendation and promo code! FYI to EltaMD UV Clear SPF fans, it's on sale, 2 for $56 and with Dr. Dray's code it's 2 for $50. And you can also get a free EltaMD PM Therapy Deluxe Cream (0.5 oz). I think the EltaMD sale ends soon-ish though, so hurry!
