How to Choose the Right Lace Color

First, part your hair and look at your scalp color. Choose the lace color that matches the color of your scalp. If you can't find the lace color that matches your scalp exactly, it's better to go lighter than darker. If you’re still unsure, the safest choice is Transparent lace. We recommend using HD lace, which is also transparent.

HD lace is undetectable and blends very well with any skin tone. However, if you are a wig beginner, this may not be the best option because it is very soft and delicate. You must handle it very carefully to prevent it from tearing up. HD lace is also more expensive, so consider this if you have the budget for it.

How to Make the Lace Color Match Your Scalp

In case you’ve chosen a lace color that doesn’t match your skin tone, there are quick remedies you can do to solve this problem.

When you find that your lace color is lighter than your scalp, you can try the following methods to darken your lace:

Method 1: makeup foundation/concealer

This method is the easiest and quickest one, but it’s only a temporary solution to fix and adjust your lace color. You only need a foundation powder and a brush to correct your lace color.

Firstly, flip the wig inside out. Then take a foundation/concealer and lightly press the product onto your lace to make it blend with your skin complexion. This takes only about a minute.

This technique is best for short-term lace wig wearers as makeup becomes messy and wears off after 2 to 3 days.

Method 2: Lace tint spray/makeup spray

Lace tint spray or makeup spray is better applied on wet lace if you choose this method. Spray the tint on the back of the lace. You can let it air dry for a few minutes or blow dry the back for a few seconds.

Method 3: Dyeing lace

Fill a basin with warm water. Choose one dye shade that can match your skin tone. Use a couple of drops of dye and dip the lace into the basin for about 10 minutes. Check the color often or until it has reached your desired tone. Do not submerge the entire wig.

Next, you need to wash it with cold water to make sure the color has set in. In this step, you can use any shampoo and conditioner. After washing and conditioning, simply let the hair dry naturally. This method is relatively more complex, but the effect is permanent.

Method 4: Black tea bags

If you don’t have any dye on hand, there’s another method for you. Just prepare 10 black tea bags and a pot of hot water, and you can tint your lace easily!

Prepare a pack of 10 or 20 black tea bags and throw the tea bags in a pot of boiled water. Use a spoon or any utensil you have to gently press down on the tea bag to get the color out.

After that, take the tea bags out and allow it to simmer for another 3 minutes. Then, turn off the heat and let the water cool for 2 minutes to get the right temperature.

Hold the end of your wig and dip the lace portion into the tea water. Just like method 3, you should check the lace color frequently to get the right color.

The last step is to wash your lace wig with shampoo and conditioner. Make sure that you wash very thoroughly to get rid of the tea smell.

When you find that your lace color is darker than your scalp, or maybe you accidentally submerged the lace too long when you dyed your wig, you have to make your lace color lighter. Check the following methods, they can be helpful.

Bleaching knots will also lighten your lace. Pour the bleach into the bowl, and add the cream developer. Then mix until the consistency is thick enough so won’t seep through the lace and bleach the hairs.

Turn your lace wig inside out, gently apply the bleach mixture to the lace and cover the lace with the bleach. Let the bleach sit in for more than 15 minutes then wash it with cool water. Method 2: purple shampoo

If the lace color is only a little bit darker for you, you can just wash it with a purple shampoo to fix it. The purple shampoo will even out the tones and cancel out the yellow brassiness of your lace.
