Oil Treatments For Long Hair Care

Everything you ever wanted to know about oil treatments!

⬇⬇⬇ Click here for some info about shedding that I forgot to include in the video!! ⬇⬇⬇

----- SHEDDING DURING OIL TREATMENTS -----

It is normal and expected to shed a lot of hairs during an oil treatment - especially if you are massaging the scalp! Think of them as hairs that you would have shed throughout the day or the next time you brushed your hair. We all know what it's like to have a hair yanked out before it's time (ouch!). As long as you are not feeling that painful yank, then the shedding is perfectly normal and acceptable. As my fellow eyebrow pluckers can attest to, a new, healthy hair will replace that shed hair in no time.

----- MY OIL OF CHOICE -----

Oils work differently for different people, but my personal favorite is Dabur Vatika Coconut Hair Oil https://www.amazon.com/Dabur-Vatika-En...

Hey everybody and welcome back to my channel. My name is Brits. This is coffee and makeup. So ever since I made my five year, hair growth journey video - all of you guys have been asking me about how I will my hair you've been asking me: what kind of oils to use for oil treatments, how often to do them, etc, etc. You guys have a lot of questions about oiling, and so this is going to be the video to watch if you're curious about anything to do with oil treatments. So first I want to tell you guys how to select your oil of choice now. The only thing that you really need to keep in mind is that this oil needs to be a natural oil, so you can go to the grocery store and find most of these you can use coconut oil, olive oil there's a two really popular ones. Any form of coconut oil will do there's some that are made specifically for the hair. You can also use all sorts of other oils, so there's almond oil, grapeseed oil, avocado oil, walnut oil. You can use shea butter and cocoa butter which your just solid oils. The list goes on and on. You really need to figure out which one works for your hair. So how do you do that? Well, you just want to try different oils, whichever ones you feel a call to just try them out and in the end, after your hot oil treatment, you want your hair to look shiny and moisturize, but not dull, not oily, not sticking together. You can also experiment with how much shampoo you need to use to wash the oils out, but if an oil is really working for your hair, then after the oil treatment, your hair will look smooth shiny, sealed, but it won't look dull, greasy oily or just kind Of clean together so use that as your guide, when you're trying out new oils, you just want to look for an oil that gives you that result in your hair when you're done using it. As far as how often to do oil treatments again, it can be specific to you. If you have really healthy, moisturize hair already, then you might be able to get away with oil treatments infrequently. I do mine about once a week, usually on a Sunday when I'm having my me time and you know, reading a book or just relaxing I'll, just throw my hair up in a deep treatment, I'll weave it in for about an hour or longer. If you more time, you can leave it in as long as you would like it's not going to hurt your hair, and then I wash it out later that day when doing your oil treatment start by warming up some water on the stove, get it to where It'S warm but not boiling and then place your oil container inside the water so that the oil warms up a bit just so it's above room temperature be sure to wear an old t-shirt or one that you don't mind getting a little bit oily. Then you want to brush out your hair completely before you start applying the oils. This will prevent any unnecessary shedding while you're applying the oils, and it will also help the oils to apply more evenly. Then take your oil of choice. Mine is just vodka, coconut hair oil and pour a little bit into the palm of your hands. I divide my hair into two sections. I find it's really easy to apply the oil this way and I just coat the entire section from the ears down. I used to do my whole head, including my scalp, but my scalps been kind of sensitive lately. So at this point I only do my length from the ears down and you want to apply the oil until your hair looks damp with the oil as if you just stepped out of the shower the benefit of doing these oil treatments instead of just using conventional Products you can buy at the drugstore is that this oil can actually penetrate into your hair, shaft and moisturize it anything that's silicone based from the drugstore like serums and conditioners, even deep treatments and quote unquote oil treatments. You can go to the drugstore, actually just coat. Your hair, to give it the appearance of being moisturized, whereas this oil and other oils can penetrate your hair and deeply moisturize it. When you're all done, take some clips and you want to put your hair up in a bun. I suggest strongly to put the bun on top of your head, because the oil can really add a lot of weight to your hair and make it really uncomfortable if it's pulling down on your scalp. So just make a top knot on the very top of your head and clip that bun up securely after this you'll have some time to kill. You can leave this oil treatment in for as long as you would like even overnight. If you want, I would recommend at least leaving it in for an hour to see the full results, so I usually read a book during this time. After enough time has passed, you can just let your hair down and you will notice. At least I do that. Your hair looks even more moisturize and healthy, even with the oil still inside then wet your hair as normal in the shower and use a shampoo. I really recommend using a sulfate shampoo for this, although some of you aren't going to like that, but I think a sulfate shampoo works best. I massage it into my scalp and I also work the shampoo through the length. Now I don't shampoo the length of my hair unless I'm doing an oil treatment. I think that on a daily basis or every other day or however often you shampoo, you should only have to shampoo your scalp, but in this case, since I'm doing an oil treatment, I will shampoo my entire length. Then all you need to do is rinse out and use your conditioner of choice the next day or whenever your hair has dried. It should look extremely silky, soft, shiny and moisturized if you're not getting this results. Even after doing your oil treatment, then perhaps, like I said earlier, you haven't found the perfect oil for your hair type, so keep looking and keep trying different oils. Thank you guys so much for watching my video. I hope that answered all of your many oil treatment questions, but if not, please leave any further questions down below and I will see you guys in the next video bye guys.

ANoteToSelf: Love the video! I have a tip! I would always have to shampoo full-strength twice after applying an oil, but recently I was searching Long Hair Community and got some really good advice. After your oil has stayed in for a while, you coat your hair with conditioner and let that sit for at least 30 minutes, THEN wash it all out with your shampoo. I read that this works because the conditioner absorbs the excess oil.

Darkhorse3211: Just a disclaimer: Coconut oil can be over absorbed and cause brittle hair. I would not leave coconut oil on hair for too long when testing oils to begin with. Just from my own experiences. I find coconut oil is better for strengthening hair and olive oil is better for moisturizing. Both coconut oil and olive oil have been scientifically proven to absorb into the hair shaft (coconut oil has the smallest molecules and olive oil the second smallest)

Darkhorse3211: Another note to make: I found oil absorbed better if my hair was wet. I know many others find their hair absorbs oils better if dry. Again, something you may wish to play around with :

HannahBears: With my experience, a good way to wash out all the oil is by conditioning it first then shampoo it and condition it again. Just a helpful tip ☺️

Leslie king: Thank you, Britt. Your hair looked beautiful after that oil treatment!! I find that I have to shampoo twice, with a sulfate free shampoo, to remove the oil and prevent it from being heavy and greasy. I loved your bun tutorial too!! It was the best. Thank you so much!! Have a great Saturday!!

Sam Scorbaioli: Hi Britt! Long time no see!!! Gosh your hair is looking gorgeous! Congrats! Coconut oil is THE best oil I have ever used on my hair! Absolutely love it! Hope to see you soon! XOXO

Nena Izabella Salvatore: Thank you for this video!!! Because of you I've finally started my long hair journey for real! :D I've wanted to do it for so long but always backed down. You inspired me to really take care of it for once. I've coloured my hair since I was 13 , I'm 21 now and I haven't had hair longer than to my shoulders , I've tried several times to start taking care of it and not use heat tools and not to colour it but I always failed. I have now been oiling my hair once to twice a week for 2 months and I can see smal changes which I'm so happy about. Thank you for your videos! Your hair is so beautiful <3

Sunkissed: I have 1b hair type. Im using coconut oil to straighten my hair more, olive oil for moisturize my hair and the last one im using shea butter for extreamly soft shiny silky hair. I do this once per 2 week, because my hair is not damage . Sometimes i do this once a month :) leave it for an hour, i usually leave it for 2-3 hour and then just rinse it out with shampo and hair mask

ex eaux: I recommend taking the oil and placing it in a glass bowl then place the glass bowl in a pot of hot water, almost like double boiling (just not boiling) because if you put the container in the water it heats up the plastic and the plastic can slowly seep into the oil!

Michelle Celeste: Thank you for actually showing your technique for washing the lengths. That twirly move looks way healthier than my current method. :)

Elizabeth Phillips: Avocado oil, black seed oil and vitamin E capsule combo works really really good for me! I do this once a week and leave it in all day :)

Agnes Smith: I've had hair down to my knees and I never used oil. It's now long enough to sit on...and I sometimes put coconut oil on the ends just because I like the smell of coconut. I think the less you fuss with your hair, the better. Just let it grow, comb and brush gently, use a good conditioner and forget it.

Katerina Dennison: I've been doing oil treatments every week and they feel great for a couple days but then the effect fades. Recently I've been following a discussion in a FB group about oils and how they don't moisturize but seal in moisture so you have to have damp hair or a moisturizing agent in it before oiling to get any effect. Just curious what your thoughts are about this. I love your videos and your hair is beautiful. Obviously what you're doing is working very well for you!

Lani Kanakanui: This has made my hair a million times more manageable! What's your input on hot vs. cold water when washing? Also, what kind of brush do you suggest? my hair is knee length but in desperate need of some tlc! Ty!

Sophie O.: I haven't done any oil treatments YET, but lately I've been *loving* Rosemary oil! I hear it's so good for your hair and I massage my scalp every night with it. Hopefully I'll be seeing hair growth results.

Hollie Mae: I always watch your videos, I love them!!! I for the first time tried coconut oil and I loved my results! Thanks for the idea

Selah Renaud: Hey Britt, I've done coconut oil treatments before, but it does look super oily and after I wash it out, my hair doesn't show much of a difference. I have super frizzy and staticky hair, so what oil would you recommend for hair like mine? It's also pretty long so that might be a factor. :)

Alisya E: I don't know how I missed this video lol. I decided to get my hair straightened yesterday (I needed to get it cut because I've been putting it off haha) to see if my good hair habits have been working...and indeed they have! Hair journeys are so much fun! Oiling hair really works and it's helping me to retain length. Once I'm ready to revert back to curly I am going to oil my hair before washing.

Lil Em: I can tell one day your channel will become super popular! I love your channel, and can't wait to say I've been here from the beginning

Crystal Stackhouse: I loved this! But I know that Pantene would just murder my hair even after an oil treatment. That stuff is so harsh!

Nat Sampson: Hi girl. I watched this vid last night, and today I tried this hot oil method you showed of putting the whole oil container in the warm pot of water. Um.. it didn't work so well this first time, but it worked to warm up the oil just a bit. Your vid was my inspiration to do that. Maybe I'll get better at it. It was an oil treatment nonetheless even tho it wasn't all that warm.

Ellisinwonderland92: This video was so helpfull! I also put coconut at my roots but my hair (i have hair til my hips) was frizzy and it irritates me a lot, then i decided that i want to try to put it at my whole hair and wooooow the result is amazing! never ever could imagine that it would make such a difference ! Thanksssss

Mikky: If you have a little bit of hairspray in your hair from "24" hours ago, should you rinse it out with water before an oil treatment or does it not matter? Just want to know what you think is best

Erika Iozsa: I use a 100% Pure brand shampoo for washing the oil treatment out of my hear and it works perfectly fine for me. So that is a great alternative for a store bought shampoo. At least it is a perfect one for me, and I would definitely recommend it instead of a sulphate shampoo.

Brittany Cano: How long does it take my hair to grow and what treatment should I use

Hannah: I use this lavender and rose hip essential oil blend that already has several carrier oils in it when you buy it. I only use it on the ends of my hair to prevent split ends and I let it sit for thirty minutes and then I take a normal shower. Works like a dream and it's so easy.

2pape: Love your hair #hairgoals love your videos! Thanks for sharing your oil treatment regime I learned alot on how you use oils differently than my regime. I love heavy oiling its in my haircode lol

PoppingCandy: Your hair is looking amazing! Definitely going to try this out soon! P.s do you have any tips for dealing with frizzy hair especially after its just been washed? Thanks! Xx

Hufflepunk: I think it's pretty clever that you rinsed your hair on camera with a tshirt. The tip about a sulfate shampoo for hair-oiling days is also something I've found to be true, otherwise it seems like I don't get enough of the oil washed out.

Nymphaea Nocturnal: I used the Vatika one a few years ago, might buy it again :) i wonder what shampoo and conditioner you use? Do you use ones with cones? Great video! <3

Lifesabeast: Very helpful. Great tips. Your hair looks Amazing as usual! I found grapeseed oil is my hairs favorite oil. Tfs!

Michaela Baughman: When you air dry your hair, do you wait to comb it (with a wide toothed comb) until it is dry, or do you comb it while it is wet or damp? Just wondering because your hair is gourgeous!

Dena In.she.WHAT!!!!: I love this oil its the most amazing and I used coconut oil and olive oil nothing else worked my end were still so dry I didn't understand I use the oil on my ends, keeped it in for a little and then just shampoo it out with vo5 and its still has shin and is so soft even with out conditioner is the most amazing nothing else worked thank you soo much for your video :)

Vikki Jones: This is so awesome <3 I can't wait to try the treatments.. I do use coconut oil as a treatment

Autumn’s Glam Life: Love it! Thanks! ❤️

Stephanie Hickman: I use the salon selectives instant repair leave in conditioner treatment once or twice for a week it has Brazilian keratin oil and it works for me so I think Brazilian keratin oil is my hairs fave oil it leaves it healthy shiny and soft I just love it.

Merrily S.: How often do you get a trim, if you do. How much do you get taken off? Also, do you use heat on your hair? How often? Thank you! Beautiful hair!

GueyshArt: The only time my hair feels amazing is when I use olive oil! Its so heavy though!! But my hair looks and feels amazing after!! Curious about panteen, does your scalp get super oily after a couple days of using that shampoo? I used to use organic sulfate free shampoo but started to loose a lot of hair my hair became brittle, frizzy, and dull. I think I have sensitivity to coconut based cleansers. I use lush shampoo bars but my scalp still has buildup. The struggles!!

Rosalia Bayan: olive oil worked so well to me I dye my hair a lot, and it was the only one who recovered it and makes it grows

Karli Colmer: after shampooing out the oil do you still have to use conditioner? :)

ex eaux: Some oils dont penetrate the hair and just sit on top so they just make them look shiny they dont really benefit the hair.

ana1231234: I haven't tried anything as of yet, but I am really glad to find some hair care information for really long hair. I have the same length of hair as you but when ever I search stuff for "long hair" it's usually for hair that is shoulder length or below the shoulder blades which I find not to be as helpful for me. I will definitely be trying some of your stuff. As for brushing tools, would you recommend to rather use a wide tooth comb or a wide bristle brush (the ones that have the little beads at the ends) for brushing hair? I always get split ends and I've heard that the type of brush you use could cause them.

Lorraine Tucker Pitman: 2 Biotin twice a day and 2 prenatal a day also helps.

Mariana Aguilar: I am totally in love with your channel!

Olivia Orlowski: What are your tips to not having frizzy hair?

Revina Rachmat: Thanks for your good advice!!!

Thuraiya: Hello, thanks for inspiring i am getting vatika oil today, do you use sulfhate shampoos only on days you oil or everyday? What are the best shampoos you recommend ? Also do you recommend treatments like brazillian blow out when trying to grow hair long to eliminate frizz ? And do you dye your hair in the process of making it long or is it too damaging ? Sorry for a lot of questions:) keep up the good work :)

sia sudhama: Hiii. I adore your videos they have made my hair grow to beautiful and I love it. I have a question, when you oil your hair do you suffer from hair fall and do you also suffer from hair fall after you wash your hair after oiling???

Jellybean77: What shampoo and conditioner do you recommend?

Eija Sofie MetalWings666: your makeup is Amazing and your hair unbelieveable :* <3

Rhythm Rajvanshi: Hey girl ur hair looks so beautiful in this video i also found coconut oil for me as to get these results

Lyra and Luma: this is all I watch girl!

Hasna Elasri: I am not sure if I am the only one to have this issue, but my hair falls out ridiculously whenever I oil it, knowing that I have an extra dry hair and scalp.

Michele Squier-Wells: I use Sweet Almond Oil and I do not use a lot. Just a dab for my top of my head and two dabs for the rest. I put it in two sections too.

Salimah A Wahed: very helpful video...jst try mine this morning. will see how shiny my hair will be tomorrow morning :) . I used Emita coconut hair oil I find it nice to use and it is not sticky too. If anyone has problem for choosing hair I suggest to try this one.

Natasha&Andy: i have been doing oil treatments for about a year now and i try to do them once a week. In my opinion my hair is puffy were there is lot of volume and i don't really like it for the oil treatments i have been starting to use extra virgin olive oil with my cocunut and shea butter (got it at walgreens) but my outcome is still the puffy and a bit frizzy. Any suggestions?

Pinnepodden Podcast: Olive oil was my hairs favorite!

Rayhana Shuva: Use shea moisture brand.. no sulfate ..but works GREAT.. I have scalp psoriasis. I m trying to grow my hair . It's not easy at all.. but shea moisture saved my hair ..

Kate Noriega: I have grape seed oil but it's mixed in with canola oil. I figured that putting canola oil in my hair is a bad idea.

Chandrima Dhar: I use mustard oil mix with castor oil for my hair.(my hair super dry, super freezy & rough) this mix oil treatment do wonder for my hair.and make my hair long

MariPlayz xoxo: I use, almond, olive and coconut oil and my hair is so shiny

Lion 777: I don't know why but I always had dandruff in my hair. And recently I consulted a doctor and she suggested me not to use coconut oil at any cost. what you think of this? and can you do a video of tips for getting rid of dandruff? please. thankyou! loved the video tho beautiful you look! :)

NHA: my hair is long and it goes far bellow my belly button I am so far enjoying this length especially when I get it done I think it looks magical :) but I haven't had hair this long before so I am struggling to take care of it..... the tangles and the hair fall due to the breakage its too much to deal with to the point where I feel like cutting it. I love my hair but I dont wanna deal with it if that makes sense lol I guess I'm gonna try and do these weekly oil treatment

Yonah: Hi, do i understand its best to shampoo the scalp area of the hair? i never knew that. thanks again...

Malak Mostafa 7A: Does oils make your hair darker ??

honey Bunny: You are amazing thank you so much!!

spicy mc chicken: You should try aussie hair shampoo/conditioner gets my hair feeling so silky ;-;

Yadilis camila Delgado santos: How often do you wash your hair?

Gabriella Larosa King: I find that if you cant get the oil treatment out by just shampooing (which never worked for me, my hair stayed super greasy), putting in a mask of egg whites and some olive oil (although the olive oils really optional) gets the oil mask out for me because the protein molecules of the egg cut the oil, making it easier to wash out. I do this for about 30-1 hour and that really works, although i've also heard that castile soap is another good way to safely get oil masks out of your hair. Also, eggs are really good for your hair, so there's no risk of damaging it. ** I would recommend doing this in the kitchen because the raw egg will make the bathroom smell funny for a day or two **

flrs: i did this over night and i had to get up at 6 in the morning.. had to shampoo my hair about 3 times, never doing that again lol! it took so long to get it out. but its even worse when you massaged it into your scalp haha

Bushra Omar: Love the video ❤️❤️

Jennifer Gilder-farooq: Late to this channel don’t know how could have missed it lovely hair pretty girl

Aanya: Hi I was wondering is coconut oil and essential oil?

Theo Vardi: I have short curly hair what I need to do to make it longer ?

hair and knits: Your videos are very refreshing, thank u.

Melisa Mascarenhas: how often do u oil in a week ?

sheeja navas ;: did you apply oil on your scalp??

Elise Gregory: Would you suggest brushing of combing your hair?

Khadija Mubashir: Hey what shampoo would you suggest for hair fall and thining

Nanny’s ASMR ✨: Do u do it daily like the daily wash??

Ellie: Is there another oil that I can have? I am vegan. That has milk in the oil that you use. Thanks.

Sarah Beam: What about castor oil?

Ola Mobarak: What use on dry hair after shower..???

Terry Hubbard: your hair color is identical to mine - same type too, silky, shiny and smooth - very thin / flat hair.

🌼Spiritual🌺: But vatika coconut oil is not 100% pure, u can use extra virgin coconut oil of company - organic India. ☺ I am using this oil and it is a good one.

Natasha K.: I NEED HELP! I have tried olive oil and coconut oil but always after washing my hair it still looks greasy. Normally I only apply shampoo on the roots and conditioner on the lengths of my hair because I heard that this is very good for your hair and less damaging. So everytime I make an oil treatment it looks greasy unless I shampoo my length two or three times but this makes my hair dry and the opposite of smooth and shiny :( Another problem I have is that it is making my hair lighter (my hair is and always was dark brown with a little auburn shine in the sun and now after many oil treatments I have some auburn/reddish strands of hair)...I don't know why... someone told me that it is because the oil in combination with the sun is "burning/cooking" my hair. Is this possible? Oh please has someone any advice for me what to do? I really want to have longer hair but the oil treatment isn't working and I don't know what I am doing wrong. English isn't my first language so I hope I explained it well enough. Ah and just if it helps you to give me a good advice, my hair texture is thin and it tends to split and dry ends and I have never dyed my hair and I don't use any heat. I also wonder if anyone has the same or a similar problem as mine because I have never heard someone having the same or a similar problem with oil treatments. :)

varsha rao: Love ur lip colour.. Love ur hair...love you

Rosalind Fahy: Twisting you hair can be very damaging for certain hair types. Just wanted to mention that. Loved the video!

Marilyn Richards: Your eyebrows are really beautifully natural chick! :o

puja Samanta: Wow..Mam how many hair strands you loose per day .. please reply mam please

Brett Currie: awesome video! what lip color are you using!?

mickeymini: can you suggest some shampoos and conditioner which avoids frizziness

be you: Is almond oil is good for hair growth?coz i used almond oil its really turned my hair super moisturised and silky.but i heard that almond oil doesnot helps in hair growth

spannycat waffles: Does oil penetrate silicone products?

Rashmi Goyal: Love your makeup and hair

Trisha Meloling: Did you know that fractionated coconut oil is better for the hair it absorbs faster into your hair and ect ect!

ria david: can i use sesame oil?

Pena A John: Your hair would be okay with the sulfate shampoo because the oil would stop the sulfate from doing damage anyway but a tip I would suggest is after you apply it to your hair try blow drying it on low setting for about 5-10 minutes. And then going about your. Business. I find that when I do this it warms the oil up enough to fully penetrate my hair shafts. I read this online.

DylBeen the Plotagonist and randomee 240: Can I still do this even though I have hair that's way shorter than this, by that I mean not even shoulder length

Kush Meeta: i have fine hair and i am a little bit concerned whether it would be weighed down too much when it grows longer
