London Stylist Preserving Black Hair Care Skills - Bbc London

Charlotte Mensah is an award-winning hairstylist who spends her days cutting and styling the hair of young black women and girls. But she fears that as many young black girls are wearing wigs and weaves, that hair care techniques for black hair will soon be lost. So she's taking action by passing her knowledge and skills down to the next generation.

I see so many young people wearing wigs and it really saddens me because when I was younger, you only wore a wig if you're really old. So I don't understand why I'm not seeing young people with their natural hair, so I feel like they just need to accept it, and we need to learn too so, just just to be happy with what we're doin with every time. You see an afro, it's only a referring back to the 60s era, the Black Panther movement, but it was never something that we were taught to embrace. It was always we should never embrace your natural hair pattern, and so I think now it's become more and more about being natural being true to who you are and owning it. Everybody should be able to walk into any salon and get their hair done. You shouldn't you shouldn't, be turned away. You shouldn't feel like you're, an alien, because I feel like some of the salons on the high street light. I know I can't touch off Renee. Oh no! That'S too much!

Stay Alive: Cant wait this Corona virus is done so I can visit the salon! I desperately need a trim ...but white people cannot deal with my hair and majority of black salons around here are not suitable either Miss Mensah was highly recommended...

Dominican Hair Republic: Nice video! ❤️

N S?: I think people forget that wigs are also worn to protect the hair. I'm not going natural 24/7 as it can be damaging to my hair.

AndroidWith SickCoinTricks: Um, people wear wigs because either you're to busy, want a certain style or color, but don't have the length and don't wanna damage your hair, to protect their hair, or because they just like wigs and want to wear them....what she said is stupid

Empress star X: Literally not worn my natural hair to skl for 5 years cuz it’s tooo short and I want white girls hair .
