Stick Welding - How To Keep Your Caps Straight

Today Abe is going to show y'all what he does to keep his caps straight weather it be on pipe or plate. These techniques work for him and they might work for you too. Give them a whorl mister!

What'S up world to family, it's Abraham again and today I'm gon na be showing you how to keep your cat straight. It will be my technique and this knee you can use it on play or fight. Alright, let's get it alright guys. So I got this tic tac book. I drew two lines. One two and just this represents that well right here. This is your left side of the world. This is the right side of the world. Okay, so a common mistake. People do when they're capping is when they brought to throw their first beatdown they'll go straight right over it with the rod that goes straight over that line like this. Okay, like this right and after they get done on the left side, it looks all wavy. It'S not straight, it's waving! Why? Because they're not lining up they're, not lining in anything up evenly. So what you got ta you got ta remember. Is you got to line up the left side of the photo with the left side of the devil, not the rod, but the portal always watch the photo, not the rod common mistake people do they wash the rod, not the puddle. So when I cat, I line up the left side of the bill, the left side of the portal with the left side of the bevel, and I just keep watching my foot on the left side edge of my foot on. I keep watching it all the way through all the way through and then and ten times out of ten. I have a straight beat. Oh yeah, that's that's the way. I do it and that's the way I do it for pike play any position. That'S the way. I do it and it turns out of ten, I get it. I get a correct, alright guys so remember guys, I'm gon na start welding right now, I'm gon na be watching as I go up. I'M gon na be only paying attention at left side of the puddle, and I mean lining it up with this line. Right here strike my rod now watch I'll put. It went to out one tooth out one two up one two. So I'm lining up my puddle with the line the left side of my bottle got ta get a little bit of slag view. You see how the left side of my puddles lined up, and I follow that all the way through. Okay. So now I'm gon na throw the middle bead of my cat and when I do this, I also watch the left side. I don't worry about what's happening on the right side. I watch the left side and i try to line up my portal right in the middle of the beat. So I'm watching the left side of my portal and I'm just right here like this right next to it, I only watch one side of the puddle, not both sides. One side, I pay attention to one side. I just let my muscle memory take care of the others die. I'M just pay attention to that left side of my puddle. You know, travel speed is consistent. This happens for the third and final bead same thing. I watch. I watch only the left side of the puddle, not the right, just the left side and I let my muscle memory take care of the other side. Again, I'm a zig zag. We want to want to want to out one two out one two out one, two out one, two out one, two, others that's and I count in my head just for just I can get keep like a beat going and it keeps my travel speed. Consistent. Many people, like I all G, advise my students to count in their head and else with the travel speed, because, if you're just moving up, you can slow down on sunspots or speed up on sunspots. You know, and by counting it helps with your travel speed. So, just to give you a tip for people who are just starting out for the first time in refineries, many old schoolers, what they do, Alzheimer's, what they do after they finish the cap. They don't worry, we live with the with the grinder, they use a hand brush and they just brush it. The reason why is because, when you're waterwheel it you're gon na show all your imperfections, every single one of them, so the best thing to do on your cap is just a hand brush it with a brush. I got ta say I have it. Did I keep my cats faint, don't forget to like it subscribe catch the next time.

Jason B.: Thank you for the knowledge. What i love about these welding pro videos is all the welders wear basic welding lids, nothing fancy or exspensive. The latest lids go for $400.

Duncan Mac Farlane: Great video. Nice weld, nice way to keep track of travel speed

RockstarVlog: This is the best welding tutorial I've ever seen. pls teach us also how to do overhead in 6011 and 7018

Flint Sisson: Wire wheel vs hand brush depends on the weld. I’ve saved myself lots of grief and grinding by wire wheeling a socket weld while hot slagged. But a cap on x ray pipe I would never touch with a grinder. Only hand tools like a brush and file if wagon tracks are allowed. Much respect to the old timers ways. Great welding!

Alejandro Galvan: Hola me gusta mucho su trabajo es más industrial , por acá en México no hay mucha escuela o centros de capacitación , solo puertas y ventanas , quiero aprender más y por eso me gusta mucho su canal
