Hi cuties lindsay lacqueue here owner at the queue vintage salon and the q, cosmetics and, of course, the pilot parcel. So this week i'm going to be showing you a little demo of this super cool new toy uh tool that we've got in the pinup parcel in april 2021 and that will soon be available on sale on our website as well. And, of course, in all of our salons and stockists, so this is the fabulous gibson roller and it helps you create a beautiful gibson roll kind of 1940 shape at the napier neck, and i'm also going to show you how to do some amazing, bumper bangs with It super super quick, um, no heat, no curling, no tongs no wet sets um, so this tool really is going to make your life super super easy and quick, so you're going to be able to whip up a vintage style, um, either casual or quite elaborate within A few minutes, and just with a few other little tools to help you along the way. So, as i said, this is our gibson roller and it comes in lots of different gorgeous colors. I'Ve got the lovely, um pastel blue here to replace the blue. I'M missing out of my hair from lockdown, which i'll hopefully have um dyed again this week. So yeah i've got the pastel blue, but it comes in pink uh, red black, dark, blue and a kind of brown as well to tone in with with brunettes. So there you go um. What else am i going to be using today we have got my favorite trusty ball bristle brush, which, if you've watched any of my other tutorials you'll, see pop up many times over the years. That'S when this one's looking a little bit bruised and battered, but i love it and it's going to help us to smooth things over. I'Ve got our rat tail comb. So this is a metal rat tail comb. I love the metal because when i am using hot tongs, i can use the end of this on the tongs. If i want to kind of help to get that hair off um without losing the curl, but we won't - we won't need the metal for that today. But it's just super super useful amazing tool and again available on our website and then, of course, i'm going to be using our fabulous new hairspray victory spray. This is a strong hairspray, stronghold, anti-static, moisture resistant amazing for you, vintage dudes. Please do look online at our reviews because customers are absolutely loving it and then i'm going to be using our pinup pompei pinup pomade say that three times pinup pomade um, which is um our fabulous new grooming pomade again all of these online and get these in A cute little set, which is a little bit cheaper to get together and um. This is for smoothing and finishing the hair, and it's just going to help us control all those flyaways. I'Ve got a few little um extra bits like these clips here, which help me to hold the rest of my hair back while i'm styling and is really good for beginners, because it really does rip the hair gets it out the way so you're only dealing with The section that you're working with and i'm going to show you how to do the top section of my hair with the gibson roller and do a beautiful big kind of betty page inspired faux fringe um bangs. We call them that's what our american friends call them. So it's kind of um we've adopted that phrase, because betty page who first made those beautiful um curved half moon fringes, famous she's american. So of course we call them betty bangs um. So let's get started. I'M gon na start off with my rat tail comb and i'm going to section off this front section of my hair. I'M going to be looking down where my mirror is and you'll be able to see the top of my head a little bit better as well. Um, so in order to do this, i'm going to use again this really precise, lovely, wrapped metal rat tail end um and that's going to help me draw a really lovely section into the hair so that we can get that nice and clean and professional looking. So what i have done is simply drawn a half moon type shape in there see my lovely uh gray roots coming through prior to getting them dyed um, and i am going to about uh three quarters the length of my eyebrow there and if it's easier for You you can just pop your clip in there to get that separate and i'm just going to repeat that exactly the same on the other side, starting at my parting and drawing a semicircle and sectioning off the rest of the hair, there, i'm just going to take A look i've taken too much here, so i'm just going to adjust that a little bit you'll be able to see now. So this is our section um. As you can see, i've obviously got a fringe here, so i do try and take a little bit extra on top of my fringe so that that bit there is going to curl around the gibson roller nicely and give me a little bit more grip and rather Than just shaping my fringe itself, i'm thinking i might just that's quite a thin part, so i'm just going to take a little extra section. So you can see my partitioning is coming in slightly here and in slightly here. Rather than taking this section hold section there and the reason i do, that is so that we don't get little black baggy ends um baggy bits here when we fold down the the um faux bangs and you'll know. If you've tried to do this and not not been very successful with it at home, um that that bit there can be the really trickiest bit to to get in and look neat and really kind of secure in your in your um faux bangs, so yeah. I just nip off that little bit of sectioning on both sides, just so that it's a little bit a little bit more taut you'll see what i mean in a bit. So if you don't have a fringe, you can simply um. Just you know section section that exactly the same, you don't need to worry too much about the lengths of hair. So now we're going to do a lot of back combing and again, if you've watched my tutorials before you know that um your backcombing is working. If your hair is completely standing on end without any support, so that's what we want to do and another little spray just to hold all that. So, as you can see serious there's something about them, everything going on here and that's how your your back combing should be. You know you put enough in there if it's standing on end. So now, i'm gon na use our um trusty little ball bristle brush. This is a super slim one and that's just going to allow me to smooth over the edges so that when we roll that down, you don't have all this kind of um backcombed edges, backcombed, um roughness to the end to the edges of the hair. So just a little smooth underneath, but i'm mostly interested in smoothing this top section, because that's what we're going to see, i'm using the palm of my hand to anchor the hair upwards. As in not, i don't want to brush straight down because i'm going to lose that lovely um volume that i've created there so placing my hand there allows me to smooth over without getting rid of that volume that we've created through the back cleaning. I'M just going to make sure those sides, because they're really going to show have also been smoothed okay, so i'm just going to take a little bit of our pin up pomade. Now, i'm just going to make sure i've got the tiniest bit in my hand. So i'm taking not even like a pea-sized amount, it's literally just the tiniest bit and i'm just smoothing that into my palms of my hands. So really your palms, your hands should just be slightly sticky. That'S all um not a lot of product and then i'm just going to place that over the top and that again you can see automatically everything's super smooth um and get rid of all those fly aways. So it's kind of a really nice finish to the hair right then so that is the prep look. How crazy that is, and vintage hair always looks super strange halfway through so here is um a gibson roller again. I call it a gibson roller because that's mainly what we run, what we style with it. However, this faux bang is super super cute and such a great other thing to do with it. So um, i'm gon na show you that as well now, um you'll see that it has this little gap in it. This is like firm, wire, um and it's surrounded by foam and, of course it's got these cute little ribbons tied to either side um, so we're gon na just get that gap there and we want to place the hair inside that gap like so and then i'm Just going to start get that ribbon out of the way start wrapping there we go so i've wrapped the end of the hair, not a lot, because it's quite slim there and then really helpful. Is your little rat tail comb and that helps you to get those ends in and there we go smoothed in there and it's difficult to tell with my hair being darker. Now, i'm just basically using the comb just to make sure those bits are in and i'm just rolling carefully down actually going to go a little bit lower there. We go i'm going to use the turn flat tail comb just to pick up any bits that are on my forehead and just smooth those into the roll there we go and you can roll it as tight as you like, and then we're going to start to Create that smile or half moon shape, whatever you want to call it, that famous faux bangs betty bang shape and i'm doing that by bending up the corners here so that um you get them. So the fringe is going up either end basically and keep using my lovely comb just to get all those bits in make sure it's nice and taut. And then, when you're happy with the positioning, you can just get a kirby grip and place that grip. The idea is to grip the bottom of the roll with the hair right at the root, and then that should just stay right in place where it is so we're not quite finished. Obviously, there's a little bit. We want to do with the shape of that, and one thing i can start to do is: tease the hair outwards and upwards so you're covering the whole of that um foam section. So there's none of the foam showing especially if your hair is a different color to the to the sort of brownie black foam. It really covers it. So when you're happy that you've got that lovely shape, you can place a grip again. You want to grip the base of the roll onto the root of the hair, so i'm just again gather that up a little bit and we can do it on the other side in a moment as well. I'M just going to do this cutest little bit, which i think finishes it off nicely before i finish gripping it, and that is once i'm happy with that shape. To tie this super cute little ribbon and if you know betty page and you can see from my daddy on there, i love her very familiar with this. She did used to wear cute little ribbons in her hair like this, so it's. I love the fact that this um, you can really make a feature of the ribbon that not only helps you tie it, but just looks super cute as well. So at this point i've done my little bow and i can really play around with the hair to make sure that it's covering all of the foam, so that's not showing and that it's nice and even i'm using my comb just to get all those little bits In and i'm gon na pop a bit of spray on that, that really helps us get those ends in there we go. You can use your fingers as well, if you want to, but i just find this is so precise to do this. It really gets all those bits and you don't risk like snagging, your hair, with your nails or your watch, or anything like that. It'S just a really nice way of just getting those bangs in those sorry those little bits in there we go and you can have that ribbon sit. However, you want i'm just going to set my hair down here, there's obviously so much you can do with the bottom section of your hair. If you want to, you can curl it, you can put some victory rolls in there, whatever you want to do, but essentially that is it i'm just going to comb that down. So it looks a little bit neater bit of a spray. You never have enough spray. Voila there is your super cute little faux bangs made with our gibson roller. How quick was that? No heat, no damage and um yeah, it's just so fun, it's so much firmer. I feel like i can shake my head and i can go dancing and it's just not gon na come out. It'S um super cute. I mean, if you don't want the ribbon here. You could always um just um flatten that bow quite a lot and you can put yourself a head scarf on top of there if you want to. If you want to kind of link these bits, but i just really like the fact that it just kind of sits really nicely on the head, there's not that um sort of strange gap anywhere that you sometimes get with faux bangs. So you know i could just leave my hair down like this and go about my day and that would still be a super cute vintage hairdo. I don't need to worry too much about doing anything else, so i think once you've got that down. You can probably get that done in a few minutes in the morning or whatever, so there you go guys, that is our um betty, bang faux bangs, and now i'm going to show you how to do a gibson roll with it. So gibson roll is a nice roll at the nape of the neck here and it kind of came in the two fashion. So to say in the 1940s, when um women who were serving um in the forces would need to get their hair up and out the way. So in order to still wear their military hats, they would put a roll at the base of their neck here. So it was up, it looked cute um, but it was very functional as well, and this, of course has become part of that kind of mono. Modern pin up look as well, so if you've not watched the other tutorial, this is our gibson roller. You will find it in the april 2021 uh pinup parcel box um, and if you missed that box, you can sign it right to the end of the month and you will get it included in that. If not, you can buy online on our website and that's linked below so um. It'S made up of foam covered on some quite firm wires, so it keeps its structure and it's obviously got these lovely ribbons and they come in lots of different colors. Depending on what you fancy um, so i'm going to show you how to roll this in the back of your hair in literally minutes with no heat, no curling, no tongs no damage just super quick, cute, vintage hair, and i'm going to do a few more stages. Like putting some backcomb in my hair just to lift the top here um, but you don't have to do that, you can roll it straight in. If you want to - and it's great for super long hair - and i would say you would need maybe kind of shoulder length, hair or longer for it to work really um to have enough hair to roll up so there it is so, let's get started. First of all, i'm going to run through what it is that you need. So we have got my trusty ball bristle brush, and this is for smoothing and finishing the hair a little bit battered. But i love this thing and i've used it for years. We will, of course, be using liqueur cosmetics victory spray. This is a stronghold hairspray, it is anti-static, it is non-drying, so you get a lovely shine to your hair. You can style your hair, it will stay in all day and you can brush it out again. It'S magical check out our reviews, our customers love it and then we've got peanut pomade and this gorgeous stuff smells amazing, eugene's going to want to get hold of this as well. It'S amazing - and it really is for finishing um. So it's going to finish and smooth off the hair once we've done a bit of styling in it before we roll it up and then my rat tail comb, that's always useful. I love this really precise end, so we can get all those little spare bits of hair into that roll when we need to as well so quick mention. First of all, in my roll up here, i've styled this with our rolling pin, which is our victory. Rolling and pin curling tool, and this is sold separately, would have got it in a previous pin-up parcel box as well, and you get it on our website. It comes in pink as well, and i will link below some of the tutorials i've done in rolling victory rolls and, and rolls at the front in all kinds of directions using this fabulous tool. It allows you to create victory. Rolls super super quick with again no heat and no setting all of that jazz and if you want to know how to do this suicide role completely freehand without tool, then there is another tutorial that shows you how to do that and i will link it below. But please do consider using this for it, because it is so much easier and quicker. So, first of all, i'm going to put a little bit of back combing in this top section of hair. Here, that's just to give it a bit of lift so that when we do the gibson roll at the back, it's just kind of nice and flat ring. I quite like a bit of lift. I like a bit of height. It'S got quite a round face, so i like to put this stage in, but you don't have to so all i'm going to do is take sections at a time at the back here and i'm just going to do a bit of back combing. Okay, that'll! Do it's just like i say for a bit of a bouffant and i'm just going to take my finishing brush and just gently brush that over the top, and that's just going to smooth over the top for me without losing with the backcomb. And, as you can see, it's just giving me a little bit of lift there we go and then what i'm going to do is take our pinup pomade and i'm going to take a little section of it. You can see just a tiny bit on my finger and then just rub it onto the palm of my hands. So my hands are slightly sticky and then i'm just going to smooth that all the way down my hair and that's going to help us have lovely some smooth gibson roll at the back love using this for everything now, because it just makes everything so much smoother. There we go so that's the first section done the first sort of stage now um you can see that i've split my hair kind of like pigtails. Quite roughly down the back. Don'T worry about that parting! It'S not going to end up that way. It'S just so that i can show you how to pop these little elastics in so i'm gon na pop this little um rubber elastic quite far down the bottom. Almost like a really super loose pigtail right down the bottom. There i'm gon na grab another one and repeat that on the other side, and then i'm going to fasten each of these little bobble bits into the corners these corners here of the gibson roller in among in between those two wire pieces there and i'm going to Cross it over. So when i do this at the back, i'm going to cross them over and put the opposite end into the gibson rather like this. So i'm just going to show you how it's going to go in you're going to place it between those that little gap there and right to the end. So you can see just placed it in like that right to the end. Okay, we're going to switch that over. So when i pop that behind me, i'm going to put oh if i can grab it this pigtail in the this side and then i'm going to swap that over and the reason i do. That is not just to make this super complicated, but because it just really helps you get the tension around the ears and it doesn't go all floppy right. So now the simple bit is now they're. Tucked in all, i'm going to do is roll, so you can see i'm grabbing each end of that wired foam part and i'm rolling it at the nape of my neck until it gets too tight that i can't roll it any further. When i'm happy with where that is just feel that around there little stray bits of my short layered hair, there's not a lot, you can do about that. If your hair is layered, but we can certainly tuck it in and that's where our trusty little rat tail cone comes or we can just tuck those ends in we're gon na pin all of that in a moment anyway. Okay, so you can see that has created a little roll at the back of my hair. I take lots of pictures and put them in there, so you can see that a little bit making that super cute and neat so again, i'm gon na, like we did with our uh, faux bangs, i'm just going to curl up like a smile shape. So i'm going to make that wired foam a lovely smile shape at the back, and that's going to give us that lovely gibson roll shape that kind of mirrors the shape of the back of our head with a little bit there, a little pesky bit. It'S going to pop that in don't worry, they will stay once we lacquer it and when i'm happy with that shape, there's a couple of different things you can do. You can um tie the ribbons around the front here. If you want to i'm going to tie them around the back into a cute little bow, because i think that looks super cute at the back there and then we're just going to go around with some spray and you can lift your hair up over your ear. If you want to that's all where i want it to be, can't see it, but i can feel the hair is all the way around and covering the sponge. And again i can shake my head. I know it's in place and you can totally accessorize that up. If you want to, you can put a head scarf around here, if you want to and kind of hide the ribbons, if you don't want those included in your head scarf as well, and you can put flowers and all kinds of things in your hair, if you Want to as well so there's so much to do to really dress that up. So that is our gibson roller. Super simple, don't forget to check out how you can use it to do your faux bangs at the front as well, and i hope you enjoyed that. Please give me your feedback, please hit that subscribe button, so that you can get more of these tutorials and um anything that you want to learn. Please let us know! Thank you so much.
