Sharon Danley here with Two Minute Tips, and this week it's about how I cut my hair and two different ways. I did bangs. Look at this with my shoulder injury last winter. My hair just grew completely out of shape. So, finally, I was able to cut the front end of it after about five months, so I started with parting, my hair, where I usually wear my bangs across my crown and also on the sides and notice I went towards the front end of the round of The ear because I don't want to take too much away with my thin fine hair when I'm going to be doing, face framing layers. Next, I grab ahold of the bang area and spritz the hair, so it's nice and wet in order to cut it. Well, I measure where I want it. Usually, I cut it somewhere between my lips and my chin, sometimes a little higher, sometimes a little lower comb, the hair down, and I take good barber shears and I cut the hair straight across to where I need it and with my thin, fine hair that just Gets done fast and easy next, I'm going to check to make sure that it's not too straight looking by point cutting in to the shafts okay! So now I'm just going to comb it back and make sure it's the length that I wanted when it falls off to the side, because that's the way I wear it mostly now that that's okay, I'm going to comb the hair straight up and back. In other words, I'm going to over direct it and cut the hair, while it's directed back so I can take off some of the length at the back end. So it gives me a nice soft layering, especially with thin fine hair like mine, is so just point cut it and then take any extra long pieces off and just generally do what feels good. So then I take the hair and comb. It back see how it falls and it seems to be doing just what I need it to do so now, it's time to give it a little bit of lift. I'M gon na use my blow-dryer to just lift it off my scalp and out a bit and give it the sense of what it would look like when it's been curled. I don't use heat on my hair too often, but in a case like this, it's not going to hurt now see how that gives it. Such a nice lovely, lift and now I'm going to backcomb it. So I get a really good feeling of how it's going to look when I actually style it and I always backcomb the root, so it gives it the lift that I need now. I just comb it back with my fingers, usually and just kind of place it where I would normally wear it and get a sense if that's the right length for my bangs and it seems to be working just fine. Well, that's about all! I can do for the front, but you can see how long it is my shoulder just isn't well enough yet to go to do anymore, but it's it's because you can see how thin and fine it is and that's why it it needs to be cut a Little bit shorter and that's why, when I layer it in the front, I only take a little bit off and never go behind the ear because it it just doesn't work very well, so I'm showing where I can cut it. You know a little bit shorter. A lot shorter, keep it longer or whatever. I don't know what I'm gon na do at this point, but I do make up my mind. Well, it's a few months later and although my hair looks shorter, my sister did come and cut off the bottom for me, but it's time to cut it again and now my shoulder is much better. I can bring it right behind me, so I'm tying the hair back into a ponytail at the nape of the neck. Then I'm going to bring the hair around to the side and and stretch it so that it's not pulled in any one direction and I'm going to cut it off again with the barber shears. I think I'm only going to take off about a half an inch or an inch here again having thin fine hair to get through the cut real fast. So when that's finished, then I just take out at the ponytail and bring my hair around to the sides and make sure that i spritz everything, because I think I let it dry too much before I decided to cut it and clip that hair back comb it To the sides on each side, and even it up get a sense, get a feel for it check the back to make sure that it's good the way I cut it and I'm happy with everything. Then what I'm gon na do is split the hair in the center and bring the hair completely around to each side. Then I'm gon na spritz it a little more comb. It make sure I've got it just the way I need it to be, and then I'm going to cut off the sides to match up evenly with the back next, I do a little bit of measuring and get a feel. I cut my feel. I know that. That'S not what they'd eat your near dressing school, but it works for me, and so i spritz down the hair again just to make sure it's damp enough to cut well and feel each side and now it's time to take some off the opposite side. And you can see where it needs to come off. You can't just straight across pretty simple and easy, then I just feel you know cut by feel method. That'S what I do for me. So I've taken a little bit more off the one side. You got to be a little bit careful because you don't want to have to keep going higher and higher and higher, but generally speaking, you can get a feel you can get a sense of it and you measure from the front and then the hair by the Ears and then the hair behind the ears, usually it turns out pretty good I'll time to cut those bangs again. It'S amazing how fast they grow, sometimes huh. Alright. So I just gathered what I usually you know part my hair, where I usually parted. I should say to bring the hair forward that I'm going to incorporate into the bangs and make sure that the hair is damp and pull the rest of my hair back into a ponytail to get it out of my way and then comb it and see. Where do I want to cut so that I spritz the hair, make sure it's nice and dance so that it cuts up much better and I've decided where I'm going to cut it? And then I just take this time: thinning, shears and I'm using that to cut the hair with because thinning shears give a more uneven of you know, cut line and that's what I'm looking for. Just something really easy. So I comb it back to see if that's pretty much the length I want when it's combed back and it looks pretty good so now. What I'm going to do is that I'm going to undercut a thin sort of hair hairline frame of hair so that when the wind blows, I have a little bit of bang underneath my bangs. That makes sense. So I'm gon na clip that out of the way - and then I'm going to take me - be just a little bit more and especially at the temples. Ladies, because this is where we lose our hair or it tends to go back so bringing some hair down to help fill that in for you, I find that it works really really well to kind of camouflage. That sort of that's not. Let'S find another word for balding, more conspicuous spot, so then just clip the hair out of the way - and all I do is just take that bang and I cut it where I think I'd like to have it and I'm going to point cut again, because I Don'T want a severe line, especially with this get a sense of what it's like and takeaway me those long pieces. Then I measure it and see. Is that what? If that's? What I want, then that's perfect, and then I just bring it down play around with it, or I decide that. Maybe I'm going to take just a little bit more off, which I do and this time using the thinning shears having a pair of thinning shares and good barber shears. You know you only have to buy them once in your life and they last and they work. Well and they cut your hair well and if there's any stragglers, then I just go in with the barber shears there. That'S the better length for me. Okay. So now I'm gon na cut some face-framing layers and I'm gon na take some hair just from the front part of my hair from from the top of the ear forward. That'S the only hair, I'm going to cut cuz, my hair is thin and fine, and what I do is just comb it out straight up and then just cut those long babies off just to give it a wee bit of face framing okay. Now I just run my fingers through the hair, get an overall general sense or feel of it and how it's going to be run. The comb through everything seems to be fine. It'S shorter, it's a better length for me and for my thin hair. Now it's time to put my hair in rollers, just spritzed with a wee bit of water overnight soft easy to sleep on and in the morning. This is what I end up: with., Simple, Easy and Oh So Chic. We'll see you next time.

Strawberry 1: Merciful hour Sharon! I have exactly the same hair texture as yours: fine, wavy and long and this is the most effective hair cutting and styling video I have EVER seen. I have after much trial and error almost perfected a similar cutting technique as yours but yours is much more simple and effective, and gives a straight line at the back. As for the rollers, I have never known how to place them before to create styled waves. Now I do! Also actually seeing how you do your back combing is a revelation. I gave up on my lovely hairdresser a few years ago as she kept cutting my thinning hair too short. A big thank you from Dublin. :D

Jeannine D.: I've been growing out my salt and pepper and wear it up most of the time, consequently I only get a hair trim every nine months. I end up trimming my own bangs and your tips are going to help me between trims... thanks so much

Lu G: I love the suggestion of the _under bang!_ Also, I have been rolling my hair using Velcro rollers, so I appreciated seeing your method of how you roll your hair. The end result was stunning! Thank you for sharing.

Linda R. Ward: Love, love your instructions. Just perfect for my own silver hair. So caring and useful your demonstrations. Bless you, dear Sharon

laurie ann wilks: Thank you! I enjoyed watching you cut your hair. I cut my hair about 3 days ago, and once my hair starts to get in my way I have to get out my sissors, but also I have to be in the right mood because it takes me a while to cut my hair. I've been cutting my long hair for years now, and because my hair is so long I take breaks, so I take my time to be sure I know that I am cutting my hair where I want it cut, or what angle I am looking for, and I check and recheck as I cut because I don't want to make any mistakes. You did pretty much same as I do except my hair is long and thin, so this time did it a little different by framing the cut around my face with a little layering, and I did good! I love it! and this also took some of the weight off that was making my hair look thinner, so now I have a little more body I have saved myself a ton of money by doing my own hair now for over 20 years, and started when my boys were little because I couldn't afford to pay a hair dresser and I felt I did a better job than they were doing lol Thanks again for sharing, and I love all your video's. I am 62 going on 63 this Dec and I love my graying hair, and don't plan to ever color my grays. You are a beautiful lady and so happy you share all your knowledge with us ladies. I have learned a lot from watching you, and as I age along with you, you have helped me to look and feel better about myself ❤️

Sharon La Tour: Oh thank you Sharon!! I have been waiting for this! I know you were not able to do this, and I am so happy you are well again! <3 Thanks for the hair trimming lesson, we can look chic, with out going to the hairdresser so much!! You look beautiful, as always.

Heidi Scarrott: I cut my own hair yesterday. I only meant to cut my fringe ( bangs) and ended up giving myself a bob. I love it. My curls have gone really soft.

Joy McCourt: Thank you thank you! I am on the right track. Started cutting my own when i ditched the dye 2 1/2 years ago. Love it!

Rob yN: Hair cutting at home, so empowering! Thank you, Sharon!

WithMetta: Thanks for this! I have been cutting my own hair for decades, but I have pulled more hair from the sides to do the face framing which creates layers in the back in a way I no longer want them. Thanks to you, I will now take only the hair to the curve of my ear. Re the "problem spots" with less hair: I have them too, and have been using Rogaine to good effect. If you only use it on the temple area, and across the front, it lasts twice as long as advertised. I'm sure we must know some of the same people. Does "Yuppies the Musical" mean anything to you? ;0)

Alba Zamora: Great video! You can't imagine how I needed this! Great job! I'm glad you feel better! Take care!

Susie T: I’ve been cutting my own hair for years now. Many hairdressers are so distracted, trying to do several things at one time. I usually would have to come home to even the sides, etc. I love your tips, Sharon!

Lynda _Lee: Oh my gosh, we have identical hair!!! Thank you for this video! I never knew the hair terms “face framing” to describe what I want done. I’ve just been going to the same girl who knows how I like it! I swear our hair is identical!!! I’m thinking of doing myself after watching you!!

Marjorie Burnett: So helpful, my hair is just like yours. Thank you so much! Great video.

Gigi CS: Pretty similar to my method. But my hair is SO straight, I could never get your beautiful style... sigh. We all work with what we’ve got.. and all too often think the grass is greener across the way! Thank you very much for your tutorials! Look forward to each of them!

Donna McFarland: Thank you Sharon!! Valuable tip!! Mine is sllllowwwly growing out & I'm fighting the old urge to cut it all off...I really don't want to...it's just the old brain trying to ~command me. I've got to watch your video's again and again and again...they are SOOOO very helpful!! Your hair, your total look...is GORGEOUS & exactly what I want to try to do too. Mine is naturally (very) curly...which vex's me...i want STRAIGHT hair. Love your video's...thank you for all that you do for us!! xoxox

Sherise Landrey: OMGosh! I LOVE this video! I ALWAYS cut my bangs wrong! You're a Godsend to all of us!

Lois Campbell: That was a great video. I just cut my hair (a wee bit) today. I used to cut it myself all the time when I was younger. I haven't colored my hair since Oct '18 and haven't had a professional cut since mid Jan of this year. I've always like my haircuts better than salon cuts. Like you said, I go by "feel".

Mags Stuart: Thank you so much Sharon...thanks to you I can now cut my hair, put it up in a messy bun, apply makeup and do a selfie! Why am I single?? You explain everything so easily which them makes it easier to try it out yourself, sending you love from Bonnie Scotland

Susan Allen: I love your styling videos. We share an age and hair type. I had just cut my bands and frame - too short! Now that I've seen how to do it right, I'm anxious for them to grow. Ha ha! I wish there was a way to put a heart or star on favorite videos so that I can find this one easier when I'm ready to trim again. Thanks for all the tips! I'll look forward to the next one.

Maji Villion: I always come back to your videos, especially this one, M’Lady Sharon Thank you for your dedication and empathy

Sandra Knight: I have been letting my hair get longer and the grey to come in. My hair always wants to grow forward and is annoying in my face. I did cut bangs similar to the way you did but much shorter so it can fall forward. I may try cutting the sides the way you did as I have dry split ends. Anyway, thanks for showing me how you do it. It looks lovely.

Sue Lutz: I love the way you do yr bangs. The rest too but particularly yr bangs. Also liked your combing further behind the ear. I tend to get "midnight-cut-itis" w the scissors and HAVE to cut my bangs or top or back of my hair when it feels too long. Somehow, it works. I'm glad you're encouraging others to cut their hair. Even if you make a mistake, it does grow back. And, Heaven knows, hairdressers have made sooo many mistakes w my hair. Often, I've come home and recut to fix it.

D Reynolds: This was very helpful! Thank you Sharon!

Barbara Carling: This was a terrific video for my long fine hair. Thank you! BTW, you are beautiful.

Karma The Giant: Just followed your hair trimming instructions for the second time! Thanks

Karma The Giant: Time for another trim today for me. Using this video. Thanks

Janna Lynn: Interesting!! Are you a side sleeper? What kind of rollers did you have on each side, were those foam rollers? How did you hold them in? When I use foam rollers there I always get a line due to the closing rod. So I have to use a curling iron on that part in the morning! Anyway, this was brilliant!! So glad your arm/shoulder is better!!

Hi: Thank you Sharon. You're a pro! xo

Pamela Prescott: Beautiful trimming job your hair looks great,& you look beautiful

Mira Domin: Sharon. Thank u so much for great video. Oh my hair looks exactly like yours. Love your tips. Hugs

Yvonne Charneskey: This was so totally helpful. Thank you

Marthina Rauhut: I started wearing my hair in a side path and also prefer to cut my own hair. I will try your method. Thanks,

2115virgo13: I’ve stop coloring mine. I love my gray hair. I’ve found that not washing every day helps . Plus I use mango butter with vitamin e . Only put on ends. So I can’t cut my hair :( once I start I don’t stop.

Fifi Groh Voice Samples: Actually tried to do the same undercut thing 2 days, ago, but decided I was trying to cut in baby hairs, same principle as I have a huge forehead apparently that gets commented on more than I like. But I wasn't brave enough to take as much off under there as you have. Also, your lippy here is a little lighter, and God forbid I will tell you in like it more than your dark burgundy shades on you. I know you prefer a dark lip. Anyway, this is a pioneer woman's cut I think I'll call it, that youve shown us today and it's great.

LOURDES CORTEZ: BEAUTIFUL just what I needed thanks

Lolo Lolo: Wow wow how much I like to watch your videos..although i'm in different age range but all your advises are the best :) million thanks dear

Kara here: Awesome! Came out great!

Cathy Cathy: Three years ago a stylist said she was trimming fine hairs on the back of my head.......... I heard a zzzzz and the razor went right up the back, have not been to a stylist since. My hair is identical to yours and I love the video as I myself cut my own hair almost identical to your method, including the thinning shears. My issue now is that my "hairstyle" is a pony tail as my hair down looks awful on me and I have no idea what to do. I want it long but cannot do much, or I cut it short , a style I had to have all my life owing to its curliness and frizzyness , its a problem.

Michelle Ramirez: BEAUTIFUL LOOK, AND GREAT JOB!

debrajayll: Such pretty hair!

Sharon Cornwell: i love you and thankyou for this. my fine straight hair has help.

LOURDES CORTEZ: Love it every time I watched thank you for sharing hello from Texas

Melissa Culpepper: Great video!

Robin: Fantastic - well done you.

Cindy: Sharon you are the queen of sheek - thank you!

small footprint: Great job.

Karma The Giant: Good video!

Carolanne Titmus: Congratulations on your confidence...I am the old school I do not like to see a mature woman with hair so long. A bob makes my fien hair loo so much fuller.

Kaye Carter Mature Woman Daily Dose: Pretty pretty pretty

Debi Barrington: Wow what a beautiful difference

Good Vibrations:

Everetta Holbert: ♥️♥️♥️

Christine Izzo: I was just on FB and an automatic video ad came on from Lightmaroon company and you were in the video. Just wanted to make you aware in case you didn't know. Hopefully your video wasn't pirated and you are being sponsored, but wanted to let you know.
