Hey everybody: this is Jesse Lin Aris with the San via art team. Just reviewing another common salon scenario with you. We did some layers on one of our guests and guess what well after the blowout, we found out that they were just a little bit or a lot weighty on the top and we're gon na. Look at how to diagnose and correct a little problem in the layer just like this, so we have a look at it and we can definitely see that there is a big disparity in the flow happening right about there and that that chunk is really starting. To show off so we want to isolate exactly where the problem began, so we can go about correcting it best way to do. It is just to peel it off layer by layer. So I'm going to take away some of the top here and we'll take a look. We want to see if we can find the place where the problem starts to go away, so we can isolate exactly where we're going to be working. You know if we get a look at that now we can still see that little bit of implied weight, but it's not sitting quite as heavy there. So, let's get just a little bit more to guarantee that we got it taking a little bit more from the top here and now we take another, a better look right. There we've got a really good flow, so we can know that probably right above this vertical transition is where that weighty layer is sitting. If we take a look at that, you can see just how steep that finger angle was when we created this layer vertically. So we're just going to look for a way to pop some of that weight off the top. A nice way to look at that is to drop it down and take a vertical section that we can analyze and we know that we're going to be working right. Above that vertical transition somewhere. So as we elevate this up, we'll get a much better look at where that weight sits, we're going to elevate it a little not too much, and if we really feel that that weight is so heavy that we need to change. The silhouette of the cut to make it right, then we will actually go in there and find that corner and take it away. So, with a little bit of elevation, we can see that that angle really moves out this way and creates that little bit of weight. What we can do is we can take a little bit of that off and then get a better look at it fan it out and we'll point cut some of the weight out of that, and then let's drop it and take another look as I bring this Back down what we're looking for here is to see that big, egregious waiter go away, it's getting a little bit smoother, but we can still see that little bit of weight right there. So maybe we're not done just yet we'll take our section once again and let's get a better look, let's elevate it a little bit higher the higher we elevate, the more of that length is going to drop away, but the more of that big corner is being Revealed to us so, let's take just a little bit more off fan it out, make your point cuts for softness and then we'll drop it back down and have another look. What we're looking for here is to see that big block go away during her back around here's, where we were working still a little bit of float there, so we haven't got it all yet take your time with this, there's no need to feel like you have To go in and correct everything right away, sometimes it's just looking for the sweet spot and taking a little bit of feel and observation to find that place biting just a little bit deeper into it. This time, especially down there at the bottom, where that weight really picked up for us and then finally, we'll take it just all the way up to 90 degree elevation and remove the final bit of that corner. Let'S bring it back round one more time and see what happened for us, so in this area now we can see that we've got a nice bevel and a little bit better flow. So ultimately, our elevation ended up at about 45 degrees above the vertical transition, and then we just took that corner clean off, but the process was about slowly kind of chipping away at it until we had it right and not just rushing in and blasting off a Lot of hair that maybe we wouldn't have needed to take so a slow, methodical approach can be great, so we created this way layer and there's really nothing. We can do about it right now, but we need to make that adjustment to get rid of the excess weight that shows that heavy line, but what, if we did not want to affect our silhouette? What if the length coming from here to here, is important that we keep it? Can we go in there and alleviate the appearance of that without dramatically changing the silhouette ie, making the top layers even shorter than they already are so we're going to attack this with our invisablend shear, which is one of our blenders? That has a very light touch and does not leave a line when we cut the hair. So I'm going to take just like we did before a nice vertical section and elevate to a place where that little bit of corner and weight starts to show off me turn to you guys. So as we bring this up vertically, we can see that right about. There is where we start to see the pickup in that weight, but we don't want to change the layer so much, but we are going to have to minimize its effect. So we're going to take our invisablend and work from the interior and make just a few minor adjustments that will alleviate this way. Notice that we're setting a new finger angle inside the subsection previous finger angle worked volume to top that way. We'Re going in on the inside and counteracting that which should help us collapse the weight on that top layer. We'Ve made three little bites. Let'S take a look and see what it did for us: we're going to drop that back into shape. So close, you can just barely see a little bit of weight right there. So I feel like we're on the right path and just like we did in the previous exercise, we're just going to take our elevation a little bit higher this time. So we can see our corner and what we can tell from what we've already done through analysis is that those ends are getting pretty skinny out there. We may have done as much as we can in this area before it starts to get a little wispy and that's something that we want to avoid. So, as I elevate this up, we're going to get on the underneath part of it now we'll take away that little bit from the top that we know. We can't touch anymore and suss out this section where we can get a good look right there. It'S still we're all that weight is sitting so just like we did before create the opposite angle, one that goes a little short to long or volume at the bottom, and that took a lot of that out. Let'S take another look as we comb this back down. Yes, we can see that that has finally disappeared, and, what's great about it is, is that we did not have to take away the length that we wanted to keep from the top just two different ways to attack a weighty layer. Sometimes we put them in there without thinking and after the blowout, we see it and one like. Ah no, so those are two ways that we can attack the first way. We actually took layers off the top and effected the silhouette. We actually made it dramatically shorter up here in order to create this curvature. Working from the outside of the section going on the inside of the section with the invisablend allowed us to keep all of the length but debulk it selectively and strategically, using the same movements that we created. When we made the section elevation, / direction, our finger position and so forth, so principles of haircutting will always help us get to a good end result. I hope those two ways allow you to diagnose and treat your own hair cuts better in the salon. We hope you enjoyed seeing this with us, I'm Jesse Linnaeus with the Sam via our team. Oh

Tallis In Wonderland: Choppy layers? No I didn’t do this to myself at all during quarantine

richard mendoza: I love Jesse's teaching style & enthusiasm. He's down to earth, & seems quite comfortable in his own skin. Love his hats, too!

Carm Rana: Hey Sam. Thanks so much for this video. The instructor is great too. Makes things so easy to understand. I just completed the choppy layer hair cuz on my instructor at hair school. She said I completed it perfectly. However I hated, hated the look of the choppiness. I didn’t even think to point cut those end angles how the instructor did in this video. Instead I went in and took about 20 min and texturized the entire hair cut again. And got the end results that I wanted. Thanks for this video. They are extremely helpful.

Tatianna Larman: This was an incredibly helpful tutorial, thank you!!!!

Mary Perez: You’re awesome. I wish you could fix what I’ve done to my hair!!

Tom McGraw: Jesse, thank you so much for this tutorial. I love my Invisiblend shears but there aren’t very many tutorials on their use. If you could make one on blending children’s fine blond hair I believe that would really show where the Invisiblend really works miracles. Nothing else works like it does.

Hair TREATZ: Love this video. Sooo detailed and very clear. Thank you!

WoWaddict: Great video! One recommendation, if you don't have someone to control the camera you could use 2 cameras so you can record both angles at the same time and show the audience whichever serves your purpose best so the instructor won't have to readjust the mannequin's position every time;)

jedilizz: The fact that I just cut my hair during lunch break then watched this video is amazing

Emma Weekes: Thank you I needed this I had a client like this today and things looked amazing until the blowdry and the layers freeked me out it’s nice to know I should of just blended

Quiana Scovill: This guy sounds like Bob Ross of Hair. Happy Little Strands

K.B: i chopped my hair and ofc it came out choppy. i started to panic and cut more and more off of my hair trying to save the mess i created all while starting to heavily cry, since i liked my hair length (just wanted layers:(( ). i stopped myself and came to this video. thank you for calming me down and showing me how i can save my hair!

Hp Flax: Just beautiful and will try and fix Just about all of my quarantined hair

Andrea Martin: I love this Jesse's soft spokan and gentle training ways. Great information, thank you!

VANished: This was incredibly helpful, thanks!

Stevie Michelle: I do my own hair, but if you worked nearby, I would totally go to you! Your talent and your sweet energy is so relaxing!

Tracy Swearingen: I love how he explains. So easy to understand. Thanks! (I also love his voice).

Tasia Fabulouss: He’s such a great teacher!!! Does he have more videos?

Debbie: I so need this miracle worker here...I'm impulsive told my stylist to cut like a picture (8" off) but she made all these choppy layers at the bottom so many different varying lengths. It looks nothing like the photo and now sadly flips up. I went from a youthful looking 50 to someone in their 70's

Jean Khn: I have bad chops- a lot of stylists no matter the price would never ( in my experience) would never have the patience to work with me. Thank you.

Austin Veloria: This is the best to teach u the basics of cutting hair in a simple encouraging way. Thanks for all the great tips n techniques

Lynda Bales: Learned a lot thank you very helpful

indus phima: this is so helpful thank you

Li$a Marie: I wish with all my heart that I had this man here to cut my hair for me I know he knows what he's doing we have no professional hair cutters around here at all everyone is sloppy lazy and horrible they choo cut and take off to much and uneven and it's always a nightmare for me I have u even hair like crazy noone can seem to just make it all match idk what the hell the problem is but I am losing hope I can't do it myself or I make it worse

Algotube: in 2020, i’ve dyed my own hair twice, and cut it twice. i think i’ll just shave it all off to celebrate a year of quarantine!

Jenny Rose: My hair is wavy and heavy at the back and it's never even. My kingdom for a good haircut!

AreLL: Thank you for the great informative video tutorial

beyondthescript: You're a life saver! You made me save ₱100 for the salon.

Alex Flores: Wow such a great video! Thank you soo much.

Gabby Hagines: I tried to trim my hair turned into messy layers looks kinda bad but kinda not at the same time

Joyce Wright Deeb: Thank you for tips!!

AC Pangilinan: I'm already having ideas to "fix" the hairs I cut wrongly, I don't have anyone to cut my hair for me and there's no hairdresser near me so I rely on my blurry eyesight, kitchen scissors, shaking hands, faulty thinning scissors I bought online, and my plastic bathroom mirror that I'm pretty sure bends in the middle causing my reflection to be inaccurate good luck to me y'all I'm trying to get a proper haircut for Christmas.

Laura Oquendo: Sam Villa I like your descrpition of a choppy layers. And a great lift up for even hair.

Erin Toronto: Any recommendations for a stylist in Maryland that can do this? I have thickish hair and even $100+ layered haircut looks choppy everytime.

The Messy Mermaid: The Lord Farquad will be the official hair style of 2020.

thaswagga: Love him !!! Thanks so much Jesse and the rest of the Sam Villa Art Team!! <3

Hanna Faye Lacorum: My layerd hair is shorter than that I cut my hair because I was bored

Ashis b: You are great sir

z: i got a wolf cut and it looked so good but my school needed it to be shorter so i just wanted a trim and went to another salon and they absolutely butchered my hair fucking crying i have school tomorrow

Nicole Cedervall: This is why hair sometimes looks uneven. As now the right side is a different than the left

Wendy: How can I fix the front bang part of my hair shoulder length hair tried to layer the bangs now just have a block in front any suggestions for a at home job cannot get out of house to go get fixed I'm sick to be honest and it makes me feel even worse on top of all of it God bless any suggestions would be wonderful thank you best regards Wendy

souhila tam: I love that hair color!!! what to do to get it exactly on my hair?

Amesie: I cannot thank you enough

Lisa Penny: I hate The Rachel cut and styling but my hairdresser still did it! How can I restyle my hair while I grow this awful cut out. I hate the way the hair curves inwards. I wanted a shag cut but got a Rachel instead

o ricka: My hairstylist messed up my hair so much. I wanted to have a mullet and endet with a short layered hair what look awful

Shakila Ahmed: Love it

drrhelms54: I wish he would have combed all the hair down .It didn't look even at the bottom.

karen tonks: Beautiful Bob Ross, so eloquent and Buddhist vibes x

Cynthia Ruiz: This is what I call the meat & potato of haircutting

CardiBree: Anyone here after you asked for a wolfcut and the lady at the salon have you a bob with choppy layers
